Sardinian dhole - the wastelands scavenger
ApocalypseGal posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
Name: Sardinian dhole Species: Cynotherium sardous Time: Late Pleistocene Diet: Carnivore The Sardinian dhole is an extinct insular canid. It went extinct at the end of the Pleistocene. It is a medium-sized species of canid that originally lived in the Mediterranean islands of Sardinia (Italy) and Corsica (France) during the Pleistocene. They are solitary animals and prey on smaller fast creatures. Since the dhole’s diet is limited to smaller prey, they specialized in hunting small fast-moving creatures. You can spot these canids hunting and scavenging alone or with small groups of the same species in the wastelands hunting for weak, injured or small creatures. They are super curious about survivors have been seen curiously going up to them however they seem to avoid them when there are a lot of other creatures around. Some say that if you feed it once it goes up to you that they will allow you to pet them overtime you will be able to form a bond with them allowing you to tame them. Abilities. Sardinian dhole doesn’t just make great companions as a survivor’s best friend, but they are great at tracking. Tracking. - able to detect weak/injured creatures, or even dangerous threats. - able to detect and locate your own creatures, can help you track down any of your missing creatures. Scavenging. - the ability to dig I have heard from other tribes that some may even find some interesting loot. - they could even be able to find and pick up dropped/lost bags dropped from survivors. Guard dog -able to detect and alert (barking, growling) survivors of any wild/tamed creatures or other survivors that may pose a threat. links: https://sciifii.fandom.com/wiki/Sardinian_dhole https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sardinian_dhole -
Common Name: Epicyon Species: Canid genus of subfamily Borophaginae Pack/Herd/Swarm/Flock Behavior: Packs of 3 not counting pups Time/Era: Early & late Miocene Idle Temperament: Territorial, deffensive, aggressive Temperament On Hit: Aggressive Diet: Carnivore Feces Size: x3 medium Tameable: Yes Rideable: Yes Saddle Level: 50 Creature Harvesting: All forms of meat, pelt, keratin, hide...also other creature bi-products that may be specific like for birds would be feathers for example. On Death Drops: Pelt, Hide, Meat Real life Facts: Epicyon is the largest known canid genus. Its sized compared to a grizzly and is roughly 3 to 4 times bigger than the current day wolves. Its like the size of a horse! It was native to North America during the Miocene Era. The largest known specimen weighed in at 375 pounds in bone weight alone! Its depicted to have brown, black and white fur but sometimes just mostly brown. In Game Wild Info: Like dire wolves, thes dogs never hunt alone so always be aware that if you see one than there are more near. They like forest habitats the most but will and can be found in tundra, open highlands and desert savanna. Much like modern hyenas they like to scavenge for things already dead or vulnerable so if you are taming a creature near them be warned...if you are leaving behind trails of dead creatures also take that into note as well. There are pack leaders and than there are lone Alphas. When the aplhas are near a pack of normal Epicyon they will get not only a pack leader buff but also an alpha buff! These dogs have some similar appendages like a Snow Owl on their muttun chop fur (face fur/mane),also a set of light up tendrils on the end of its tail and ear tips...they also have some alien-like antennas to match. They have some Aberrant fur patterns that will have a slight glow. It gives off enough light to be the first light mount in the game! Taming: To tame these massive dogs you need to trap a wild male & a wild female. Once you have them trapped in a pen you must than feed them dead carcasses by hand until each dogs meter is full. Once the meters are full they will mate and the female will start gestating. During this time you will be asked for cares to support the female gestating, this will essentially be the taming effectiveness that will effect the bonus levels of the pup. Once the pup is born you must either knock out the parents, remove them or kill them because once you claim the pup they will attack both you and the pup. Once the pup is claimed you will than need to go through all the normal feed and imprint processes. Also, when fully grown the default creature name will be "Domesticated Epicyon". Breeding/Farming: Once you have a Domesticated Epicyon pair to breed, they will breed as normal with no special tasks. Tamed (Domesticated) Info: Domesticated Epicyon see you as an alpha,so when you are near them they get a pack leader buff. Domesticated Epicyon also get a pack numbers buff much like compys do. They have 2 sit modes greet or defend. Greet means they will just sit and wag their tails when approached. Defend will set them to a select distance to defend and they will start to growl when certain defense criteria is met. This will give you a warning if someone is coming before they come close enough for the Epicyon to attack. Aside from these guard modes, it will have other emote postures to lay down, play dead or roll over. Epicyon saddles also have built in meat packs that work the opposite of what hyena packs do. Epicyon will also poop Biopolymer when fed Keritin,it can be used as cementing paste or polymer but it can spoil. Once it spoils it can be used as fertilizer like normal feces. As far as other combat abilities go, Epicyon has a similar bite, grab and shake as a Megalosaurus. Lastly, Dire Wolves and Hyaenodon will get a buff from Epicyon and they will also give Epicyon an automatic pack leader buff. Other Notes: Aside from saddles,Epicyon can be equipped with collar skins for the saddles. Certain skins will give defense buffs when in guard dog modes.

Diictodon - The Bold Farmer's Hand!
WynstanArbiter posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
Introducing Diictodon audax! Common Name: Diictodon Scientific Name: Diictodon audax Time: Late Permian Diet: Herbivore Temperament: Territorial WILD: I keep thinking I know just about every species present on the ARK's, and yet in the case of Diictodon audax, there still may just be some surprises still under our noses. Diictodon are almost entirely fossorial, living a vast majority of their lives under the ground in colonies, searching for roots and tubers to feed on. Though most colonies I have found in some of the more drier climates of the ARK, I have been told by survivors that they will settle in any area that has access to crops, where harvests will begin to show a lighter yield than anticipated. Don't let their size fool you however, Diictodon are ferociously territorial and will stand their ground, putting on quite the display that I've seen disorient and frighten most would be predators! Though it must be said, their bark is certainly worse than their bite. DOMESTICATED: I've seen a few methods survivors use to befriend local colonies, however the most common method, dubbed "Diictodon Fishing", luring individuals to the surface with treats and pets. Those of us more impatient have also resorted to more 'explosive' methods of flushing, which albeit efficient, can yield unforeseen consequences if not careful. A Diictodon colony make great additions to any tribes farmhouse. Their knack of the organizational skills mixed with the constant aeration of soil from burrowing allow for crop yield and quality to significantly increase over time, as long as you are willing to share the fruits of your labour of course. I have also seen tribes utilize some of the colonies bolder individuals as a great guard dogs to deter any would be attackers getting to close for comfort. Though they may be good at putting on a show, its best not to stick around, lest the Diictodon's charm begins to wear. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I love a new ferocious predator being introduced to ARK as much as the next person, however I am always keen to see new and unique ideas introduced to expand on some of Ark's less focused features. One of which is farming, which admittedly tends to be something that I will usually forget about most play throughs, with times that I do thinking its a chore to work on. This has influenced my design of introducing Diictodon to ARK, with an extra bit of flair to improve overall utility! Summary: To explain what my concept for introducing Diictodon into ARK: -Diictodon colonies spawn as burrows that can be interacted with (think of it as like a structure similar to the beehive in the overworld). -Multiple Diictodon can spawn in a burrow, with the lowest level individual inside usually being the main interactable member. -These "Alphas" will yap, scream and snap at any individuals that come close to their burrow. This will deter most creatures at a certain drag weight to be frightened off or at least deterred from going closer. This behaviour is inspired by many burrowing animals of today, specifically Lemmings that are surprisingly aggressive against anything that approaches their burrows that could be considered a threat. -To tame the Alpha that has been spooked back into their den, the main taming method would involved a survivor placing their arm into the opening of the burrow with a preferred food item on the 0 key, then once successful at luring one to the top, a minigame can play out similar to the fishing minigame to tame your Diictodon. This idea is a bit of a stretch but is based off Noodling, a fishing method practiced by catching hiding catfish by luring and catching them with your bare hands. -Alternatively, a grenade can be placed inside of the burrow to flush out multiple to specifically select your preferred members to tame passively. However expect major resistance from some very upset residents. Again, this idea influenced by another method; Dynamite fishing. -Tamed Diictodon will have two key roles: FARM HAND: Tamed Diictodon can establish new colonies, with these colonies having a radius of influence, depending on the number of members inside. Any crop plots inside of this radius will have similar effects to greenhouse, with the added benefit of helping harvesting. which can be then collected from the main burrow. (Since these individuals will be primarily underground, it wouldn't make sense for them to be able to access a feeding trough, so be sure to leave your workers a little food!). GUARD DOG: As a shoulder mount, you will receive a passive buff from your Diictodon that will work similar to a mix of the Sinamacrops scare and a Ghillie Suit. Smaller aggressive creatures will avoid you whereas larger predators will have a smaller aggression radius. If you have any suggestions as to what you think should be changed or improved, please don't hesitate to share your thoughts! I always appreciate clever ideas being brought up by this amazing community. Do I expect the Diictodon to win? No not at all sadly, however, its always a great time thinking up unique ideas to introduce some amazing animals into this wonderful game! Coelophysis- The Hunting Dinosaur
LoganTheWyrmLord posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
Art by Jade_317 Art by Jade_317 Coelophysis is my idea for a creature submission. Although it is a small dinosaur my idea for this guy is the ability to snatch and quickly dispatch shoulder pets and small dinosaurs. Additionally, due to their adaptations on the ARKs they have had to compete with other predators for prey and have developed a rivalry with certain predators. This makes this creature an excellent early to mid game shoulder pet/mount and can help protect you from the ARK's peskier creatures. Another fun feature of these guys is that they come in multiple sizes and have sexual dimorphism. In the wild, they can be found traveling in large groups but despite this, they are individualistic and won’t really react if you attack an individual. However, they don’t really like being approached unless you come with a carcass of another Coelophysis. I would be careful breeding these guys since they have quite an appetite for each other though! Dossier Common Name: Coelophysis Species: Coelophysis Carpeis Time: Late Triassic Diet: Carnivore Temperament: Opportunistic Wild Coelophysis is a predatory dinosaur that is adapted for hunting the ARK’s smaller creatures. Nimble and small Coelophysis roam in large packs. Alone Coelophysis is quite reluctant to attack, however in the presence of others it gains increased vigor and confidence. This makes a group of Coelophysis quite dangerous, and I have seen these predators take down prey significantly larger than an individual Coelophysis. Domesticated It appears that Coelophysis’s adaptation to hunting makes it a useful exterminator of pests. I have even seen survivors train their Coelophysis to pull small creatures from the shoulders of other survivors. The Coelophysis varies in size and smaller individuals can hang on a survivor’s shoulder while larger individuals can be ridden. The Coelophysis is highly cannibalistic which is how they have been tamed by survivors. Survivors should be wary when breeding these dinosaurs due to their cannibalistic instincts. I have seen more than one survivor stare helplessly in horror as their new Coelophysis hatchling is devoured by the pack! Taming Coelophysis can be tamed by feeding it the corpses of other Coelophysis. Survivors will need to stalk and kill a member of the Coelophysis group and feed them to the individual they wish to tame. Once you have fed an individual Coelophysis the corpse of another can be tamed passively with meats. Additionally, you can feed the individual you are taming more Coelophysis corpses for the most progress. Care should be taken not to trigger the group when attempting to tame a Coelophysis. An additional feature when taming a Coelophysis is the ability to mend lost taming effectiveness by feeding it a baby Coelophysis before completing the tame. Abilities Snatch: This ability allows the Coelophysis to steal a shoulder pet off of another’s shoulder. Non-ridable Coelophysis executes this ability by hopping onto the back of a survivor, pulling their pet off, and then hopping off causing a staggering effect. Mounted Coelophysis can remove a shoulder pet in a similar manner to Megalosaurus. The execution of this ability on wild creatures is a basic grab attack. Execution: This ability is the following move to the snatch ability. After a certain period being held in the Coelophysis’s mouth, it can execute a finishing move that instantly kills the captured creature. Once this ability is performed the Coelophysis will gain a timer preventing it from repeating this ability again for a certain period. Execution grants a mild damage boost. Patrol: A unique ability this creature possesses is the ability to patrol a certain area acting as a guard dog against common predators. However, this can lead your Coelophysis to get into combat. Can be used to protect locations from nuisance creatures. Radar: This ability is reserved only for Coelophysis that can be held on a survivor’s shoulder. This ability is like the jerboa’s weather detection except in reaction to certain predator and prey items. Does not reveal the specific location of targets. Reactions include Prey (Reaction to creatures under a certain drag weight), Rival (Reaction to creatures in the Rivalry trait), and Predator (Reaction to carnivorous creatures above a certain drag weight). Does not react to humans. Passive Traits Cannibalism: Gains increased stats for a certain period after killing another Coelophysis. Confidence: A trait exclusive to wild individuals that are like how hyaenodons react to targets. Rivalry: A reactive trait where Coelophysis gains increased damage resistance and damage output when in the general vicinity of Troodons, Raptors, Dilophosaurus, Titanoboa, and other similarly sized predators. Prey: Coelophysis does increased damage to creatures under a certain drag weight. Breeding There isn’t anything particularly notable about breeding Coelophysis rather than babies under the age of 50%-60% will be targeted by adults despite both being in the same tribe or group. This means that babies of this age must be separated from adults. Roles Guard dog: With the patrol ability and rivalry trait the Coelophysis can make a useful early-mid game protector. Shoulder Pet Snatcher: Its main PVP role is the ability to steal and kill shoulder pets. Mounted Coelophysis can be especially useful for this. Hunter: The Coelophysis makes an excellent early-mid game hunting creature due to its increased damage against multiple common creatures and ability to grab small creatures. Exterminator and Taming Companion: Due to its ability to grab certain wild creatures and restrain or kill them the Coelophysis can be useful as an exterminator or taming companion. PVP: Although the Coelophysis doesn’t have much hp it is fast and can deal a fair amount of damage for its size. Coelophysis also makes for a great combat speed mount.
