Liaoningosaurus Paradoxus (the water anky)
DrayatheDrake posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
If you have any suggestions for this, I'd happily consider them. Name: Liaoningosaurus Paradoxus Temperment: Skittish Diet: Omnivorous Habitat: Coastal cliffs L. paradoxus L. paradoxus was unusual among ornithischian dinosaurs in that it ate fish. Unlike most ankylosaurid it sports 5 digits on its front feet and a shell-like ventral bony plate which is present in no other ankylosaur. Teeth in Liaoningosaurus are relatively large with the points on the tooth crown being strangely long and sharp, forming a sort of "fork". While as slow moving as its cousin on land it takes to the water with surprising speed and ease. They're rather skittish in nature so if you're looking to take one it's a slow and tedious process. However, I've found, that placing specially prepared pieces of fish on the ground for it goes a long way in gaining its friendship. Immune to ammonite bile Immune to stuns and bleeds Attacks Tail smash - stuns foes Tail swing - has a decent knockback. Bite - causes bleed Whirlpool (advanced tail swing)-causes a localized sandstorm that traps enemies at the cost of 50% of overall stamina the more stamina it has the longer the sandstorm lasts. Resources Black pearls, silica pearls, and biotoxin can be found in their dens. These dens can be found on the sides of cliffs, though they are rather rare. Killing Cnidaria grants a 65% boost to harvesting for 2min. While having this boost the Liaon 44% of pearls harvested from a pearl node are converted to black pearls. It can harvest both plants and corpses. Taming Cook fish in a pot with Amar and Azul berries to get a sweet fish steak. Drop one on the ground and let the Liaon eat it before approaching. Pet it and let it run away, it will return once it's ready to eat again. Once it reaches 30% tamed it will stop running from you and start to follow you. Creature design and dossier by Maira, concept art by Wren TLDR: ENDGAME HERBIVORE Aberration bossing alternative to Megalosaurus Very armoured, high damage reduction - optional: reflected damage? High damage tail swipe - optional: broken bone slowing debuff? Massive explosion of charge light as a special move - optional: attack has a time-based cooldown rather than giving Zuul charge stats like a glowpet AoE spinning attack with high knockback, can keep spinning until stamina runs out Not as good as anky at harvesting but can move much faster Optional: When in sunlight (ie on other maps), charge explosion becomes superpowered by the sun and deals fire damage Trying to eat one of these guys is just poor decision making - GIF from Tenor Real Zuul Zuul crurivastator is an Anky cousin famous for being one of the most complete ankylosaurid specimens ever found—the genus "Zuul" was named because the people who discovered it decided its face had a passing resemblance to the demon Zuul from Ghostbusters; and the species "crurivastator" is Latin for "Destroyer of Shins", as this tanky boi is the suspected culprit for the many cracked and shattered leg bones frequently found on carnivore skeletons in the area! source Image from The Guardian 2017 article "Meet Zuul, destroyer of shins - the 75m-year-old 'Ghostbuster' dinosaur" by Hannah Devlin ABERRATION CONCEPT I've always said that ARK lacks endgame herbivores, and I've also frequently bemoaned that Megalosaurus is the exclusive boss meta for Aberration. So my goal was: how could a large herbivore be a viable bossing mount, especially on Aberration? What niche could it fill that no other creature currently occupies? The most important points for the game meta to me were: Radiation immune for boss arena Advantages against Reapers, the main boss mobs AoE ability to deal with being mobbed Special niche - weaponized charge light Just look at those unprotected shins! - Image from Aberration Steam page I decided that Zuul should live in the rad zone, as currently the only radiation immune herbivore (not including glowpets)—Paraceratherium—doesn't spawn in the rad zone! And in speculative biology, I feel it's important to think about what sorts of adaptations a creature might have developed to be specialized for its environment. So after some thought I came up with: Highly armoured defence (so many carnivores) Impervious to Reaper acid blood Doesn't emit charge light (because Seekers) Eats mushrooms So how can it both be super-effective against Reapers, but not emit charge light and get constantly harassed by Seekers? Have it store charge within its body and give it an explosive attack that works like a Charge Lantern! When I asked Wren to draw Zuul and she asked me how it should look, my main request was "its glow pattern should go up its tail as a visual indicator for when the charge attack is ready! Like: boop, boop, boop, boop, BING! READY TO LAUNCH!" I would also suggest that Zuul's charge explosion becomes superpowered when exposed to sunlight, becoming so intense that it sets things on FIRE! That way it's still a powerful tame on other maps. Moreover the tendency in the depths of Aberration is to be ruthlessly mobbed by everything at once. What if it could have an AoE attack to deal with that? Well I've been playing a lot of Genshin Impact lately and I immediately thought of the spinning attack some claymore characters use. Other people thought of Beyblades, and... I don't disagree! F*** everything in particular - GIF from Tenor Finally, one of the most painful things for me when leaving the Green Zone in Aberration those freezing spores, ahhhhh. And Zuul is naturally going to be quite close to the ground, a rider would absolutely get hit by those spores constantly. So I figured, if Zuul was walking around munching on mushrooms, maybe it could protect its rider? Keep your Zuul supplied with Aquatic Mushrooms, and it would be such a messy eater that the spores of the Aquatic Mushrooms it scatters into the air would cancel out those pesky freezing spores! CONCLUSION Spiky pancake boi calmly munching on mushrooms as nearby Reapers with noticeable limps visibly flinch when Zuul looks at them sideways. Rockwell spends his boss fight hip-deep in liquid element, he vehemently denies this is to ensure his shins are inaccessible. __ CREDIT FOR THE DOSSIER ARTWORK goes to the talented Wren (little.wren) who did an amazing job! Thanks also to Mega for getting me started thinking about how Zuul might fit into Aberration! Also, I love speculative biology. Have some additional suggestions? Have some criticisms of Zuul's proposed niche and adaptations? I confess to not be great at game meta and balancing, got some ideas to make Zuul a more balanced creature? I would love to hear them!

Gastonia: the Thorny Cretaceous Juggernaut
Bulborb87 posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
Gastonia is an Ankylosaur but unlike your typical one, Gastonia lack's the iconic clubbed tail but instead it's body was covered in spikes to act as a good mix of defense and offense, for the case of ARK this herbivore would be unable to harvest metal and such like the Anky, but would be larger in size and more aggressive with attacks such as a tackle and a tail swipe to make it's opponents bleed. In the game one ability idea I had is that it's tackling rocks in order to find flint to sharpen it's spikes (this would provide a temporary buff to it for it's damage), but it doesn't like it when someone invades it's personal space but get's particularly mad when facing large predators or packs of predators which makes it harder to kill and causes it to be stronger. It's spikes also have the ability to pierce armor so watch out when confronting these thorny juggernauts from the Cretaceous! Carryable by: Queztal & Rhyniognatha Base Stats: HP: 700 Stamina: 475 Weight: 650 Damage: 57 (Tackle), 36 (Tail swipe) Debuff's: Bleed (tackle and tail swipe) Weight reduction: Flint: 50% Thatch: 25% Wood: 15% Harvest Rates: Flint: 5/5 Thatch: 5/5 Wood: 3/5 Berries: 4/5 Stone: 1/5 Can destroy: thatch, wood and stone Wild: The sheer oddities of this island never cease to amaze me, but a recent encounter with Gastonia burgei has shown that Ankylosaurids can be ill-tempered. Gastonia burgei is far larger then one's that have been discovered, but this species has got a bad temper as it doesn't like anyone invading it's personal space with the exception of Ankylosaurus crassacutis being the only one's it will tolerate. The spikes of the Gastonia appear to be razor sharp as they leave behind deep wounds onto an attacker to make them bleed, but they seem to seek out flint to grind their spikes against to sharpen them for more damage, even going as far as to tackle boulders to find flint. Because of their ill-temper and spikes, most predators prefer to leave Gastonia alone unless they are desperate or hungry enough to challenge it, I've even seen a pack of Utahraptor's get disposed of quickly as the creature get's stronger when facing packs or large carnivores. Domesticated: Domestication of Gastonia burgei is a difficult process given their power and temper, but they have proven to be a "workhorse" for any tribe. The creatures fondness for flint has made it a common sight within quarries and as a defender. For any war fairing tribe, they've employed Gastonia's spikes to weaken their foes with it's bleeding capabilities and how the spikes can pierce right through armor. I've even been told that roars that are meant to intimidate this creature have shown to do the exact opposite and instead only serve to tick it off and make it stronger.-

Hylaeosaurus Custos - The Sleep Gas Hethin
Crawdacity posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
Hylaeosaurus belonged to the Cretaceous Period. Hylaeosaurus Custos means the Guardian Lizard Belonging to the Forest. Hylaeosaurus would get a buff to it's melee damage and health when in a forest. Hylaeosaurus would also be able to produce a sleep gas made from narco berries, spoiled meat, and and a compound it obtains when eating berries. This sleep gas is released from tubes on the sides of its body, below the spines. W.I.P.-

Minmi, The MENACING Tumbleweed Herd!
QuesoTheCheese posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
Dossier As an Ankylosaurid fan, ARK has much to offer, this is a simple concept for an early game that aims to grant fun instead of many combat-focused creatures we usually get. We only have one Ankylosaurid, let’s make it two! Common Name : Minmi Species : Minmi paravertebra Time : Early Cretaceous Diet : Herbivore Temperament : Neutral Wild Wearing your desert cloth armor and riding along your trustworthy Thorny Dragon in order to have some shade under the blazing hot rays of sun hitting your face you can see nothing but dunes, neverending dunes of the dead landscape of Scorched Earth. Usually these types of voyages are only interrupted by a few Mantis, or a Death Worm if you’re unlucky, but this time it’s something different. You can spot a wild tumbleweed rolling in the distance, pretty normal stuff… until you realize that’s no tumbleweed after closer inspection, that is a.. rolling ankylosaurid? Suddenly your Thorny Dragon begins to take damage, A Purlovia attacking? No, you turn to see a pair of spiky shells sticking out from the ground, only to pop up revealing themselves to be more of the same ankylosaurids you saw rolling in the distance. Minmis are herd critters, working together to annoy, protect and defend themselves from predators. Able to burrow and stick their spiky bodies from the sand giving anyone unfortunate enough to step on them a light bleed effect from the cuts of their spikes, and being able to roll like Rollrats or like those tumbleweeds in wild west movies. They aren’t really passive Domesticated When domesticated, a Minmi herd would be the perfect asset of destruction… on a small scale. Although not very hard-hitting dinosaurs, Minmi would definitely help as a protection critter, fending off dinosaurs as large as a Rex with the help of their spiked backs. When ordered to burrow, the Minmis would dig underground like a Basilisk, Rollrat, even those pesky Purlovias, and only the shell would stick up, working as a spiked wall, but on the floor. Additionally, the Minmis could be able to roll like tumbleweeds in wind west movies, gaining speed the longer they go until crashing with something, then running away as fast they could as they would be more effective in hit & run scenarios. Potential Base Stats and Spawning: Personally, I don’t know which stats could be good for a critter like this, so I’ll leave it for the developers, or anyone in the replies that like to give it some good stats! Do have in mind, these could be good transport creatures but they are more like dogs with spiked backs so yeah.. up to you. Spawning on the other hand, Minmis could spawn around water wells, or oasis, but would be constantly moving, sometimes being stuck in the middle of the sand dunes. A typical Minmi herd could be around 4 to 6, but in rare cases 7 or 8 could spawn, increasing the difficulty of taming however. Taming Taming one Minmi wouldn’t work, in fact it would be harder than taming all of the herd at once. The taming process would be through passive means, sneaking up to the alpha (usually a Minmi with the typical alpha aura many of the other creatures in ARK has), and giving it berries or crops from the last slot in the inventory bar, however the taming process would require you to have variety in the berries and crops you take as every time you give it something it might want something else next time (but you could simply give it one type of berry and you could tame it no problem but the taming effectiveness would be reduced to about the 70%). Once you tame the alpha you would automatically tame the rest of the herd granting you your own tumbleweed army! Abilities and Controls “Attack This” Whistle: Your typical command to attack something, the Minmis would rush over the target and whack it with their tails giving a slight knockback effect. “Spike Wall, Active!” Whistle: Another type of whistle or command you can give your Minmi, the entire herd (or a singular Minmi if you want) will burrow on the ground, with their backs sticking out of the ground making an invisible wall that no predator would like to pass through.. except a Giga or something of that magnitude, due to the bleed and slowness effect it gives after walking through them. “Minmis, Roll Out!” Whistle: Similar to the first whistle, the Minmi herd would charge at the target through rolling like a Rollrat would, only this time it's a herd of very angry and bloodthirsty Ankylosaurids with a murderous intent to destroy your kneecaps! Will stun for half a second each time a Minmi hits you or your dinosaur. Has a cooldown of 20 seconds.-
