  1. I'm excited for all the new creatures. I don't Official anymore, mostly singleplayer, and so my big goal outside of beating bosses is to just get all the unique creatures of a map and have fun with them. Staple tames like the Rex and Thyla are cool, but giving newer creatures a chance to shine is great for replayability (At least for me). I can hardly wait for Fasolasuchus, Gigantoraptor, Shastasaurus, and Dreadnoughtus. Yi Ling looks interesting as well, though I wish they'd stuck to the proposed design or real life Yi Qi a little more.
  2. THIS. The Island is an absolute slog to play because finding any decent Rexes or Theris to start an army with is god awful. I always give up halfway through, go to The Center, get what I need, and transfer it in. When I can go a month without finding a 150 Rex on The Island then five 150s and a 180 Tek Rex within a day on The Center, there's an issue.
  3. Every source I can find at the moment says 80% reduction, I'll test it myself when I get the chance to play Ark again.
  4. For my money, it's gotta be Fjordur. There's plenty of spaces that have few threats and nice real-estate. That island to the east, the larger "cave" on the swamp island, basically any village space (Especially the walled one in Asgard). For most of those places, just get a few smaller guard creatures like Kentros or Velonos and you'll never have to worry about anything.
  5. Honestly... Mantas. Sure, they're pretty fast and can pack a decent punch, but why do they die so damn quickly on land? Factor in that they're taming is annoying and require Angler Gel, and you're looking at a tame that kinda just sucks...
  6. Honestly, I hope Ark 2 focuses more on small to medium animals than it does large. As awesome as creatures like Wyverns, Gigas, and Rexes are, smaller creatures like Sabers, Raptors, Andrewsarchus, and Stegos fit the more primitive feeling they seem to be going for much better. I think the larger tier of dinos should be scaled back, with creatures like Rexes and Spinos being the "Gigas" of the game while creatures like Titanos, Gigas, and Carchar are more akin to how the Titanosaur works right now, like raid bosses (Unless they finally decide to downsize the Giga and Carchar they way they should have, in which case they go to the same tier as Rex and Spino). A removal of Ark 1 fantasy creatures would be nice to see at first as well, considering there will probably be new native lifeforms now forced to coexist with our creatures. Adding in creatures like the Shadowmane and Managarmr would really bog down Ark 2's believability unless they were entirely untameable and served as wild threats, as unless they're heavily balanced they'd simply overtake the meta again.
  7. Yeah, the ability to retract and take lower damage seems like a no-brainer. Some better water mobility would be nice to see too, and if they want to get crazy with it, it's known that Carbonemys had a fairly powerful bite in life, which may have made it an opportunistic hunter of smaller prey. This could be the basis for a stronger bite (Maybe ignores armor) and omnivorous lifestyle, even if it was just against fish or something.
  8. There are quite a few creatures that can collect stone, so I'm not quite sure we flatout need more. I do think the Doed could gain more use outside of just stone collecting though, like being able to damage stone structures or even just ball up on command.
  9. I thought these were still on console, but it's been ages since I tried one so I guess it doesn't surprise me their gone. They really weren't anything special (At least in their infancy), just an expanse of forest and coasts with triangular terrain.
  10. Which dinos? I've never had any issues with KO tames.
  11. Because it is early game compared to the Shadowmane. Thylas can be found on most maps and aren't terribly hard to tame outside of the fact that without Extraordinary Kibble you're looking at a decent loss to taming effectiveness. Shadowmanes can only be found on two maps (And were only initially on Genesis P2) and got a lot of that Genesis 2 powercreep. Thylas are WAY beyond Saber levels of strength. Even if they had the same stats, Thyla's bleed and mobility would still put it leagues above the Saber.
  12. The Rex is in a good spot as it is right now, and changes would probably be best saved for creatures in more dire need of them, like the Bronto or Plesi.
  13. You've been around that long but can't deal with the decay timers?
  14. Mutations are bad enough as it is, we don't really need more reasons to create huge breeding farms that output creatures hundreds of times stronger than fresh tames.
  15. For my money, it has to be: Tek Stryders- They're almost too good, especially when paired with a dedicated storage bin. If you have multiple and go mining with all of them attached to a different bin, ggs on the resources for the next month. Sinomacrops- Just amazing little guys, great for so much stuff. You'll almost never need parachutes unless you lose it, it can scare away pests like Microraptor and Ichthyornis, and they're cute to boot. It's really a shame they aren't on more maps. Basilosaurus- Probably the best water creature aside from the Tuso. These guys are tanky, strong, and make water caves a breeze thanks to their jellyfish immunity. If you don't speedblitz the caves with something like a Mana or Shadowmane, these are definitely the way to go. Their immunity also makes them great for protecting your other tames from Jellyfish attacks. Managarmr- This is probably the second dino people think of as overpowered after the Giga. It was dominant in PvP and PvE for the longest time, and even today they're still overwhelmingly powerful. They may not be the strongest creature fullstop anymore, but they're still monsters in their own right. Shadowmanes/Astrodelphis- I couldn't decide which one was more powerful, so I'll just do both at the same time. Both these creatures are so immensely powerful, fast, versatile, and over the top crazy. It's honestly insane that we got so many crazy overpowered creatures in Genesis P2 (Maewing is another creature that could've been mentioned here, but it's combat abilities are a little lacking compared to these two).
  16. I do like the variety a little, but the addition of honey adds an unnecessary layer of work to Chalico taming. I know most people don't tame a Chalico at pretty much any point, but this would make it even rarer to see.
  17. Aberration was designed so that the focus on creatures like Rexes and Therizinos could be shifted to creatures who don't get used as much, like Spinos and Megalos. For this reason, the only suggested creatures I could see being a good fit for the map overall is the Kapro and Dilo, as some of the others like the Onyc, Troodon, and Pego are also just goddamn annoying, and it's nice to get a break from those little menaces. According to the devs, the Megalania steps on the toes of the Rock Drake a bit, but I can't say I agree, so that one's fine.
  18. Ragnarok Override should be the original Ice Wyvern, but I could be mistaken on that. Ice Wyvern was initially a Lightning Wyvern that could breath blue fire. No, they can't interbreed. Unsure if Ragnarok Override can even be spawned anymore.
  19. Genesis Part 1 is rough, tough, and hard to start out on, but damn if I didn't feel proud making a successful base starting out in the Volcano zone.
  20. Another thing is that not all creatures have to have a whole roster of abilities or differences, sometimes just being different and helpful is enough. I think having "hallmark" species of sorts for each map would help make each one feel unique. Take Ceratopsians for example, there's tons of cool and interesting looking ones, so lets roll with those for now. Just to be fair, every map that already has Trikes and Pachyrhinos will keep them. But then each map would get their own variation of those creatures as well. The Island- Torosaurus (This is usually a little dubious, but its fairly popular and most people know it, great for an Island exclusive) Scorched Earth- Udanoceratops (Unique, markedly different from other Ceratopsians) Aberration- Chasmosaurus (Was pretty popular in the Ab creature vote and would fit well if given bioluminescence) Extinction- Nasutoceratops (In either the Wastes or Desert biome, using their horns to punt smaller threats away) Genesis P1- Kosmoceratops (In the Bog), though with this map you could probably get crazy with it and add one for each biome as well (Excluding space, which has the Tek Trike). If that were the case: Koreaceratops (Ocean), Diabloceratops (Volcano), and something more Rhino-like for the Arctic. Genesis P2: Medusaceratops (Could be in the Garden, with powers much like its namesake to help protect it from the many threats) The Center: Zuniceratops (Smaller, much better suited to the insular nature of the Center) Ragnarok: Pentaceratops (A very loud and proud island deserves an equally fitting Ceratopsian) Valguero: Einiosaurus (An herbivore to rival the Deinonychus, capable of its own type of pinning thanks to its downward curving nose horn) Crystal Isles: Regaliceratops (Weird and wonderful, just like this map) Lost Island: Styracosaurus (Would fit in well with the jungles and swamps this map offers) and Centrosaurus (Creating large herds across the vast plains) Fjordur: Titanoceratops (A popular creature from the initial Fjordur creature vote). This is again another map that could warrant a variant for each zone, in which case Titanoceratops for Midgard, Sinoceratops for Vanaheim, and Navajoceratops for Asgard (Again, probably a rhino for Jotunheim). Now again, ideas like this VASTLY increase the scope of the game, its development time, and this is just for one type of creature, so imagine trying to do this for multiple types of creatures, but you get the idea. The coexisting diversity and uniformity would not only create more unique maps and fresh new experiences, but also keep players from being jarred every time they start up a new map and see a new creature, as it isn't some crazy new lava lizard or fish lion, but something similar yet different to what they've encountered before.
  21. That or have another animal act like hippos I'm partial to Estemmenosuchus for that role, they'd be cool to see in rivers chasing down creatures that get too close.
  22. Not at all, go for it, half of them are hidden in that block of text anyways
  23. What I think is a better idea is species zones, or areas of the map where different species spawn despite being the same biome. For example, I had an OLD OLD post discussing different species of shark(Or creatures that could fill a similar role) in different sections of The Island's oceans. Megalodon being made bigger and added to the depths, Ptychodus for the Southern section, Metriorhynchus to the West, Xiphactinus or Acrophyseter for the Arctic ocean, Edestus around Carno Island, Alopias (grandis) to the East with Plesiosuchus in an around the swamp delta over there, and Helicoprion around Herbi Island. More recently I came up with the idea to turn that large island in the southwest of Lost Island into a strange land filled with creatures of both strange shape and confusing size, like Palaeoloxodon falconeri, Cygnus falconeri, Yacarerani, Suminia, Paleopropithecus, Megaladapis, Archaeoindris, Archeolemur, Archicebus, Drepanosaurus, Epidexipteryx, Icarosaurus, Josephoartigasia, and Magyarosaurus. Of course, ideas like this take a TON of work, but I think more differentiation between different zones of maps that generally contain the same creatures would go a long way towards improving not only creature variety, but also make players think more about where on the map they want to start to be closer to the creatures they want (At least until they get fliers lol).
  24. True, such a household dinosaur. Brachiosaurus, Apatosaurus, Edmontosaurus, Deinocheirus, or half the popular megatheropods aren't around either. It's nice for some lesser known creatures to get recognition though.
  25. Inostrancevia or some other kind of Gorgonopsid Palaeoloxodon falconeri and Palaeoloxodon namadicus More ocean creatures both large and small, the seas should feel alive rather than feeling like a megalodon playground.
