  1. They choose what they feel works best for the specific role they want filled in. In this case a creature that is very adept at gathering wood. What pops to mind almost instantaneously? A beaver. Lucky enough, Castoroides is a prehistoric relative of the modern day beaver, so they chose to use that. As for the Procoptodon, they seem to want some Australian megafauna. Hence the Thylacoleo as well. Plus, the Procoptodon is also a very adept base raider. That's what they seemed to have in mind for it, and it really works well. Plus, I don't think calling this game a 'dinosaur game' really works. We have marine reptiles, ice age mammals, dinosaurs, pterosaurs, etc... It's a prehistoric game for sure, but dinosaur? Probably one of the main selling points, yes, but definitely isn't solely a dinosaur game.
  2. Thanks for the update. I'm sure a lot of people will settle down after hearing this. You guys are doing amazing work, keep it up!
  3. ^^^ sir, sir, I would like to advise you what you had quoted was a massive joke in terms of the beaver being a war mount. That would be funny to see though. "Oh, God Jerry! They've got a... a... Beaver...? Oh." *Snipes it* "We're good"
  4. Yeah, Mammoths may be able to carry more, but the Beaver seems to do it quicker. It's smaller so getting around is easier, and it looks faster as well. The carry weight will determine whether the Castoroides is truly superior to the Mammoth when it comes to collecting wood. If it isn't as pitiful as Gallimimus carry weight, I'd say it will be superior. Also I play solo so I do everything myself lol.
  5. "Lame ass poop" I didn't know that something that can insulate your eggs for you and insulate you is lame or bad. Same with something that can create fertilizer en mass. Besides that, the Gallimimus isn't all that useful. I tamed three thinking I'd use them a lot-- and I do-- but only for the eggs. Castoroides will save me a lot of time. It's small so getting it around will be much easier than using a Mammoth, and it apparently collects more wood than the Mammoth. If that isn't a good creature then I don't know what is. EDIT: Plus it seems it won't be collecting from plants so the sole focus will be wood and you won't have berries and seeds cluttering it's inventory.
  6. I'd say likely due to their tail. That thing looks like it could really push them through the water.
  7. Oh trust me, I know how fast Ichthys are in water. I was talking about the Castoroides being capable of both land and water travel. Super useful thing there. Could make transporting wood easier. I have an Ichthy with about 220% speed and I kid you not I can be around the island in minutes.
  8. It seems the Giant Beaver is going to be a really useful water mount. That thing looks super quick. I'm glad it's rideable. That would've been quite the wasted opportunity if they didn't IMO. Beware everyone. For the most dangerous war mount has been released to the Ark. Beavers
  9. Does this help with finding the Dimetrodon eggs? If so, that's great, cause I have a 100 Gallimimus I want to kibble tame and I can't see my Dimetrodon's laying eggs.
  10. You need to wait for things to spawn in the caves. It usually takes about 10 minutes for the cave's ecosystem to flourish. I found 2 Dung Beetles in about 30 minutes, and that was even with freeing up spawns for them, so they're pretty rare. Take the central cave, as you can fly an Argie in there and pick the beetles up. Otherwise it'll take you forever to get it out of the cave. (Sometimes it's even impossible.)
  11. Possibly, though the Sabertooth has tons of detail, and you'd think the feathers of the Raptor or the sheer size of the Rex would be memorable.
  12. No, it has two fingers on it's forelimbs, and Megalania is quadrupedal and resides in caves. This appears to be bipedal and raptor-like.
  13. Can we talk about the theropod-like creature the Saber is attacking? It looks like a Raptor, but has no feathers, yet it has the two fingers that a Rex has, but it's too small to be a Rex. It also cannot be a Carno as it doesn't have the horns. I don't know if I am missing something here or what...
  14. No, you will never get anybody to shut up about Basilosaurus. Impossible. Not really anybody is complaining about dossiers not being weekly. Yeah, we're saddened by the fact we won't be getting these awesome new critters revealed to us, but the fact they're implementing more creatures in the game per update definitely makes up for that. In a way it's a win-win for us and the devs. They get to spend more time finalizing creatures and rough drafting new ones, and once they start getting caught up they can start revealing the last bunches of dossiers. We get more creatures in a smaller amount of time, and they get to get caught up on homework, while slowly beginning new projects.
  15. They could even do multiple dossier reveals at once But yeah, I'm hoping maybe 3 every 2 weeks? That sounds decent enough I hope.
  16. Pretty sure that he did. That's some nice info. At least they're working on getting our unreleased creatures in the game! (Cause I legit have no clue what this note means?)

EDIT: Read the update, nice to know (:
  18. Can we take a moment to just wonder how that guy managed to hit all those bugs off the other guy. With an assault rifle. And he didn't even harm the guy...?
  19. A salmon last week and a leech this week? What's next? A Termite?
  20. I literally answered both of the above questions on page 3. Make sure you are up to date on your info before you comment, it clutters threads and the forum in general and it's not fun to answer the same question over and over again. I'd assume that since this is a Game Preview, Microsoft has less authority for when the updates come out. This is because the game hasn't officially released, and Wildcard needs to have everything up and ready to go that they have planned for when the game comes out. Just my thoughts. It's probably easier for Wildcard to bunch updates together on the Xbox, as they've had plenty of time to tinker with the things in the 2 previous updates on PC so there should be less bugs and issues. You have to remember that Wildcard is still learning what to do and not to do on the Xbox, so updates will come out slower than they do on PC, as they are more familiar with the latter version. It definitely isn't Wildcard being lazy, it's just them being smart about how they release their updates.
  21. In response to all those asking whether Terror Bird and the Grappling Hook are coming to XB1 or not, the answer is yes. However, we are unaware of when it will be released. Likely 2 weeks to a month after the next update which is set to land the week of February 10th. (This Week!)
  22. Exactly what I said? I said Galli will be released on Xbox next week along with Dimetro and Dung Beetle. I am aware it was released last week. That's why I said a couple weeks after it's initial release on PC. Dimetrodon and Dung Beetle make their appearance on Xbox a month after their release on PC.
  23. We do not know whether it will be a month until we get the terror bird and grappling hook after our next update or a week after our next update. We got the Procoptodon a couple weeks after PC, and we're getting everything up to Gallimimus in about a week. (Which is a couple weeks after Galli and nearly a month after Dung Beetle and Dimetrodon were released on PC)
  24. You. I like you. Terror Bird looks super fun! How long can they glide? If it's for a limited amount of time, well.... Those ones that went off the mountain are screwed
