  1. Alright, new creature vote and a new map! Let's get started with a weird Paleozoic animal that could use more love. Themed this guy around Aberration's emphasis on cave navigation, providing a new way to get around the caves- and I gave it some added benefits to make sure it's a tame worth keeping even in the end game. Suminia troglodytarex Permian Omnivore Defensive WILD: Suminia troglodytarex is quite the unusual beast. Of the other creatures I've met on the ARKs, it's technically most closely related to the Lystrosaurus, but unlike that adorable walking meatball, Suminia is a limber, agile creature who seems to have more in common with a gibbon than it does an early synapsid. Suminia, fortunately, is normally quite passive, preferring to sit and rest on the tops of giant mushroom trees after a heavy meal. If disturbed, however, Suminia becomes a ferocious force of fang and claw, leaping at it's foe faster than you can say "Monkey-Lizard!" And while far from the strongest beast in the caves, this critter seems to have lungs to give even the mighty Tyrannosaurus a run for their money. Suminia boasts an impressive howl that seems amplified by the caves- and this howl is so loud, it stuns anything nearby, and even over a great distance, it seems to disturb or startle all kinds of creatures. I've heard tribes tell tales of a wild Suminia howling far off in the distance and inadvertently saving their lives by forcing hiding creatures, such as basilisks, reapers, and rock drakes to reveal themselves. DOMESTICATED: If Suminia were to be tamed, it would prove quite a useful mount. It's a bit slow and awkward on the ground, and it can't climb around on walls or cliffs at an appreciable speed; but its hind legs and tail are highly developed, and allow it to make impressive jumps, leaping hundreds of feet from a standstill. And somehow, it can manage to jump again in midair; allowing it to rapidly change direction or dive bomb enemies. This, plus its ability to cling to and leap from ziplines, makes it of unparalleled utility to tribes who do not have access to mounts such as Rock Drakes. Suminia's mighty roar would also be of use once tamed; the roar seems not to affect those familiar with the Suminia, but it's stunning quality remains for wild and enemy creatures and people. I've heard of one particularly ballsy tribe using their Suminia's roar to force Reaper Queens from their burrows, just for the fun of it. Taming Suminia, however, could pose something of a challenge- well, more like a health hazard. Suminia seems all but immune to even the mightiest tranquilizers, and it doesn't normally like being approached. However, I've observed that Suminia, like many modern animals, will deliberately seek out a "high"- by provoking the hallucinogenic spore clouds to erupt from certain mushrooms and inhaling them. In this state, Suminia are docile, and apparently, very hungry, so this is probably the best chance one would have to tame a Suminia for themselves. Bring gas masks! Or...some fortitude.
  2. I've decided I'm going to write a creature idea for each DLC, framed as a dossier this time around for fun. ARK's aerial roster is really starting to get interesting, and I think there's one potential animal that hasn't been suggested yet that really ought to be considered. Possibly exceeding Quetzalcoatlus as the largest animal ever to fly, Arambourgiania is a true titan that could strike fear into the hearts of many across the arks. However, I've tried to give it some balance so that it's good at what it does, but isn't necessarily brutally overpowered. If the Rhyniognatha is a Sky Giga, this is a Sky Carch- powerful, but with a unique skillset that makes it a fun potential alternative. Anyway, enough babbling, let's get on with the dossier! WILD: Arambourgiania dracophaganax is a bloody lovely sight. Truly, what could be better than being stranded in the desert, dying of dehydration, and swarmed by wyverns? Oh, being tranded in the desert, dying of dehydration, and being swarmed by wyverns- only for something to fall from the sky and start eating them! In this case, Arambourgiania was a lucky break for me, as I was able to use the chaos to escape. However, Arambourgiania is a truly terrifying beast. I've found from my research and talk with other tribes that this beast, a massive relative of the comparatively shy Quetzalcoatlus, is incredibly rare. It seems to spend nearly all of it's time on the wing, high above the sands, watching below. Then, in an instant, it dives- tackling prey midair and pinning it to the ground. If the sheer force of the impact doesn't kill the prey, Arambourgiania's spear-like beak surely will. The beast then feasts at it's own leisure before taking flight again, rising up into the air. Bloody terrifying, especially considering it seems to favor attacking wyverns, of all things- but I've heard tribes tell of it pinning terrestrial beasts as large as a Paracer to the ground. TAMED: If any tribe should have the good fortune to tame this aerial leviathan, they would have a powerful ally at their side. While it can't carry a platform saddle like it's relative, Arambourgiania is quite agile in the air. To conserve energy, it can simply soar- using little stamina, and allowing it to stay aloft for hours on end. However, when needed, it can use it's powerful wings to get it from A-B quickly. And that dive! A saddled Arambourgiania can be commanded to dive, giving it immense momentum. Use it's ability to home in on prey from the skies, and you have a perfect tool for taking out your rival's nastiest beasties, wyverns especially! However, while it's perfectly capable of walking, it's combat abilities are somewhat limited on the ground. I wouldn't recommend commanding this beast to assault an enemy on equal footing- it might not end too well. Actually taming Arambourgiania, however, is a difficult task. It cannot be struck down from the air to safely tame it- but only on certain occasions will it land. It is more than willing to ride out sandstorms and heat waves from above, but thunderstorms are too great a risk to it, so it must descend to the ground, cowering down so it's long neck isn't a lightning rod. This leaves tribes an opportunity to tame it- if it can be restrained, it is possible to tame an Arambourgiania with great patience- and a surplus of food. Interestingly, it seems to favor eating wyverns- it'll even go for the seemingly inedible bits left behind, like talons. If you've enough of these on hand, I reckon you could bring Arambourgiania to your favor.
  3. The new patch is brilliant! The ability to pick up structures is nice, though I think it should be changed to a full minute with some utility structures pickupable forever empty storage crates, decorations, maybe fences, etc) The kibble rework will be a lifesaver on Official, but you’ll need to change the recipes so they can be made on any map. After that, I’m pretty happy with this! Looks like it’ll make things a lot less tedious and more enjoyable overall.
  4. Guys, c’mon. It’s a week. It’s not the end of the world. Chill a little! If you get this upset over a video game, might be time to take a break. And for those who used vacation time for this, you should probably reconsider your priorities in life. Why spend vacation time to play a video game you don’t even enjoy playing? I always see these complaint threads and find them so confusing. People whine that they lost their gigas due to an incident, but they talk about how they took sick days and spent all nighters for just a video game. If you genuinely enjoy it, fine. I can sympathize (delays suck) but y’all seriously need to take a few chill pills.
  5. Lindwyrms are terrestrial. This has wings. It is probably classified as a Long, or Chinese dragon. This is reinforced by the presence of fur and other mammalian traits (common in Longs) It does have wyvern-like characteristics however (forearms are wings, while Longs usually have none) However, it shows Titan-like traits (its belly is covered in element, like the Frost Titan) so it’ll probably be called the Sky Titan or something similar.
  6. Those tendrils? Almost certainly feathers. Look up bronze parotia, birds can have weird wiry feathers like that. Generally birds don’t use any form of feather/filament for sensory purposes, with a few exceptions (kakapo being the only one I know of) Also, look up Harpy Eagle. They resemble this animal almost more than it does an owl.
  7. If you don’t mind my asking, any particular reason why? I wouldn’t really mind if it were a Titan but I’m interested to see why you wouldn’t want it as one. No offense, of course.
  8. HOLY MOTHER OF ROCKWELL WE GOT A GIANT OWL OK, so my theories/thoughts on this creature: 1, it’s definitely mount-sized. It might be a Titan (the sky god to make wyverns look weak) but judging by it’s artwork it’ll be big enough to ride. 2, it might not JUST be an owl. It shares a funny resemblance to a harpy eagle. It definitely took some inspiration from owls though. 3, it resembles a Featherlight a bit. Just saw a fleeting resemblance. 4, it’s COMPLETELY AWESOME. Cannot wait to tame it! EDIT: If it IS a Titan, I’m naming mine Vah Medoh as soon as I tame it.
  9. Well the problem with that is back then the game wasn’t finished, and didn’t have all the content. If you’ve ever watched/read any developer interviews, you’d know the sci-fi aspect was part of it from LITERALLY the beginning, before the game even started actual development (some of the first pieces of concept art were of what ARKs would look like floating in space, and the Overseer fight) Since telling everyone this would be HUGE spoilers, they kept quiet and left the fancier stuff (tek and endgame stuff) for later when they had more programmers/budget, and quite obviously, the game was mostly complete. Generally you don’t add the final boss before you add the first boss. The general idea for where the story would take us probably has gone the same way from the beginning (except back then they weren’t sure what earth would look like, etc etc) If you don’t like it and would rather play a game with just real dinosaurs and no sci-fi (that isn’t Primitive Plus) Saurian scratched that itch quite well for me. It’s still early in development (and is thus a little bare) but I still found it worth the price. TLDR: Devs NEVER once promised this would be solely a dinosaur survival game, and if you feel entitled to how it was in Early Access, tough luck.
  10. Ayy, I got my question answered! Super excited to see these new dungeon caves, can't wait to brawl my way through them on my melee rockdrake! Speaking of which, WE GOT THE ROCKDRAKE DOSSIER, YAAAAY!!!
  11. Meh, I'm not too crazy about this new creature. Probably because like the Gecko, it bears a strong resemblance to a few real life, modern day animals, so it's not as stunning to me (see the Cthulhubatwyvern) I dunno, maybe it'll grow on me. But if it turns out to just be a remodeled jerboa that predicts the earthquakes and gas leaks, I'm taming one for said skill and killing every other one I see on sight.
  12. Ayy, it's the nameless queen! Interesting, the dossier is bloody, like the Dodo-bosses. I certainly hope that Helena doesn't get killed before the next DLC, but I would be very happy if Rockwell got killed gruesomely by a chestburster, cos I always hated him, especially once he went nuts in SE.
