  1. Ignore the references to "lostisland" in the crash log. That is where the source code of the game was on the dev's machine when the game was last compiled. Nothing to do with the map you are playing.

At a guess from the crash log it looks like your save game file is corrupted. You could try and delete (or maybe better, rename) Fjordur.ark, and then copy Fjordur_AntiCorruptionBackup.bak to Fjordur.ark.  (Have you maybe been playing the with -usestore and -newsaveformat launch settings as per the "guide" for running officials on your own machine?)

  2. Does anyone have a clue what this update actually does? I saw a post in the CC announcements thread that a console guy, after install of the patch, could no longer see ANY (including un-official) servers in the server browser? Maybe needless paranoia on my part - but I am busy with a backup of Ark install directory before allowing the update to go ;)

Quick one if someones figured it out.

Just did my save file today, logged in the island and saw my official island base all there looking nice but i was on a new char and then funny enough i saw my character standing there.

Question is, can i do something like copy my official map character files into my single player and now i have the same char in the same tribe that owns the base in my single player? instead of Making a similar character and using commands to claim it all. Thank you

There was some comment in the threads about a switch that would make a backup of character files. With the saves as they stand the characters are "embedded" in the save file, so I don't think there is an easy way to just copy the character to single player. This is unlike the saves from some years ago where the character files were stored separately. And I think (from memory - so don't quote me) that these character back-up files with the new switch are only created on upload to the beacon...... Sorry dunno where that post is now but if you find it there may be some help there.

    ====Edit====
OK this is where I saw the backup switch https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/2023_official_server_save_files, but that switch will not help you. From that commentary, you may be missing -usestore on your single player start parameter?

  4. @bluewizard Ha Ha - no I have absolutely no interest in WildCard or Snail or the dodgy server company!

I am mostly agreeing with you.

It is NOT hard to convert multi player to single player - on PC.

But on console, unless you have a "hacked" console with the ability to get to the actual file system, it is very difficult. Simply because there is no way to "drop" that multiplayer map into your local game.

And WildCard & etc. KNOW that, so they have tried to monetised console save games to the enrichment of Nitrado. Taken directly alongside PC saves being freely available this is clearly not good!

But I say again, the root or cause that enables them to do this, is the way that console companies lock their devices down and disallow owners of the console to do stuff on their own box. In a way, one could argue that even a single player save on console does not "belong" to the guy playing. Because Sony / Microsoft does not allow you to do anything directly with that save.

My main point is that when someone plays a game on online servers provided by the game company, they are totally at the mercy of that game company.

  5. @bluewizard Yeah I guess you have kinda nailed it there. I have some comments to add:

First being that a capable server that will run a "full" ark map needs to be a beast of a machine (from recent experience in booting download "live" saves). However the debt that WildCard incurred for renting Nitrado servers from March through June (= 1 mill US $) seems to be a lot inflated. I think that poor "partnerships" in the past probably led WildCard to even more poor monetary arrangements in the present.

Second is that I guess that the "intellectual property" of the content of those official save games likely (I ain't a lawyer!) belong to WildCard and they can do what they like with them. They provided the game mechanics AND the platform to run those game mechanics over = their property. A guy on single player or private dedicated server maybe has a leg to stand on - they bought the game, facilitated the game, and likely can argue that they "own" the sever files.

Third beging, the utter debacle that face console guys is (my opinion) probably more to blame on the console companies (Sony / Microsoft) than it is on WildCard. Those console people have inordinately many hoops to jump to be allowed to publish on their platform. And they are VERY proprietary about stuff that is allowed to "publish" on that platform, down to what exactly the published bit of software can do. So console guys - my answer is to shout at the owing company, not WildCard. Further - PC guys, take note of this in light of the trend to cloud this and online the other and etc. The path that the console makers are setting is looking to be the way for all "content".

Last being, nevertheless - A good point! "Cloud based" online kinda games leaves the client (player) open to this kind of move. And on that topic I must say I have never been a fan of "online" games. I prefer to have the thing on my machine in my control and not subject to potentially dodgy updates and arbitrary game makers decisions. (With the option to privately "publish" a game server for my mates if I so choose). Sadly I am old school and in the minority of the cloud based, gotta have updates, game purchasing public at this moment, so that kind of game is like hens teeth.

  6. There is a lot of information missing here: In no particular order -
What platform do you play on?
Where is your "server"? - because you are clearly playing some kind of on-line with mates
Is the server dedicated or non-dedicated?
Is the map official or off of SteamWorkShop?
Have you tried in single player to go to that same location to see what you see?
Have you refreshed your game files from wherever you got the game?
    Is your internet OK?
Does the guy that runs the server have a adequate machine to do "servers"?
If you are playing non-dedicated - are you close enough to the guy running the session to be able to see what is supposed to be there?
Three's of what? Trees? Other stuff? (Apologies but I could not resist that ;) )

Yes! The megs are way too small. In real life they were like 75 to 100 feet long, and in ark they're like 25. they could really use an update.  And also, on the note of Carno, Does anyone else think they need a roar ability, and need to be way faster? In other games and real life they could run like 30 miles per hour! Also, do you guys have any other ideas of some map ideas you think would be cool for ASA or Ark 2?

I think you are a bit off there?
Megalodon size estimates vary depending on the method used, with maximum total length estimates ranging from 14.2–20.3 meters (47–67 ft)

So maybe twice as big as now ... But no 3 or 4 times as big. Further, generally bigger = slower?

  8. No body knows. In theory UE5 does way better with "resources" than UE4. But that depends on how the UE5 is actually implemented. Your best bet is to wait on post release and then see what the forum / reviews and etc. have to say.

Off hand 4gig of graphics is a little under spec for a lot of modern releases - but fair enough - at medium settings almost any game should kinda play.

    Only time will tell.

  9. Rag because I played while it was still being built (with areas of the map marked as "off limits"). It was the most exciting period I have ever had playing Ark. And to this day, I think Rag is the best designed, lots to see, most fun and most balanced map out there.

  10. There are two bosses that spawn here. I know you had a fair go at Brood on Island, but again - my view - you are way under gunned. That crew will get killed just by the minions that the two bosses spawn, never mind the bosses themselves .... But maybe your settings are a little different to what I am used to, so perhaps you come good.

We know ASE since 2015. ASA is not the same game, goin after all the hints and snippets shared it is just fair we expect an upgraded version and a gameplay trailer should help us to understand a bit better what to expect.
If you think nothing will be different from the 2015 game you have missed a lot since the 31st of march.

But that's the catch is it not "goin after all the hints and snippets shared"? These are just that hints and snippets. There is no evidence around what is ACTUALLY being done. Will game play be significantly better, or just the same old same old? Are the changes limited to a re-skin with pretty pictures? Are any of the touted UE5 improvements to the engine actually being USED or are they just wishful thinking on wild cards part?
Cynically I must agree with @arkgerman1975 because my view is that this is a flat re-skin with NO real benefit other than some prettier screen stuff. Which is why I also am not interested in any trailer for a game I have played for the last 8 years. Nor interested in even thinking about buying such a re-skin before there is some real (sorry to me the pictures are not that important) benefit evinced by the "new" game.

To make this simple trap, there are 2 ways.

1 takes 4 stone dino gateways, and 2 dino gates.

2 takes 4 stone dino gateways, 2 dino gates, and 6 stone foundations.

For the first method, place down the 4 gates, with roughly the players width in between. Place the gate on the first and last gateway. You should now have 4 gates, in a straight line, forming a tunnel with the ends closed. Next open one gate, attract the theri and once its in, slip out the hole you left in the side. Finally, go around and close the open gate.

For the second strategy, first place the foundations in a 2x3 arrangement. Put gates on the 2 snap points in the middle, and the 2 on the edge. They should all lead into a straight line. Then it's the same as strategy 1!

Please let me know if you have any feedback!

If you replace the one end dino gate with a couple pillars, you get a "space" where a petra can fly through, but an argy cannot. That is how I normally make an argy trap - but not to say it will not work for therie's, or a bunch of stuff.

  14. I have no experience with Megatherium - but off hand I think this is nowhere close to good enough. I took 19 rex's with on average 28k health and 650% melee to the Alpha and they got stomped silly. Sure, a different "level" (alpha not beta), and no bug killing incentive - but still, I think you are under gunned - even for gamma ....

I downloaded a server, but I don't know where exactly to put the files? Can you tell me?

I can't figure out exactly where to put the files I downloaded. Can you help me to know that? Oh nevermind, I got it.. here I think: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\SavedArksLocal

Yeah - it depends on the map. That location is for "The Island" map. Under that same path from \saved\ here are all the local map locations:

    Aberration_PSavedArksLocal
    CrystalIslesSavedArksLocal
    ExtinctionSavedArksLocal
    FjordurSavedArksLocal
    Gen2SavedArksLocal
    GenesisSavedArksLocal
    LostIslandSavedArksLocal
    RagnarokSavedArksLocal
    SavedArksLocal
    ScorchedEarth_PSavedArksLocal
    TheCenterSavedArksLocal

With all the servers shutting down and saving of Ark characters... does the same rule of pve to pve and vice versa still apply?? or will it matter??

It won't be better, that's wishful thinking. WildCard is desperately rushing to publish ASA before the deadline based on their contract with Nitrado. You can bet that no matter how bad it is they're going to release it before then and let the players suffer for their mismanagement of the product.

In a private Cluster, it is possible to mix PVP and PVE servers. I have for years run a PVP cluster with one PVE map instance - a kinda "safe zone".
In the wider, non clustered ecosphere, I guess not? But have never tried?

for PC Steam/EGS servers the .arkprofile is NOT required since the profiles are merged in the worldsave with the stored data feature (-usestore flag). Those profiles are required for easy solo / local host migration. unfortunately the dumb decision to remove such profiles made everything harder for solo / local host.

Noted! Ill comment later after more " fiddling". -usestore is a definite requirement, the save will not boot with out it!

  18. So I almost made a new thread: However @ladymarina started this conversation a while ago, and this comment fits there, and further @darkradeon has done a lot of investigative work that is really good in this thread - so I choose to continue the thread:

My experience and observations so far are:

    1) For PC (steam) saves, the saves (from what I have seen) do not include a steamid.arkprofile. So if you figure to download, put on a server (Nitredo or no) and play as you were - forget it. Admin cheat commands will be requisite.

    2) For the published saves, you need a MONSTER machine to run them as a server instance. I run a cluster, with 3 or 4 maps going concurrently. Sure it's unofficial and the "active player base" was never more than 10 peeps. But I tried to host an "Official Save" on this box and it failed to start. Further experiments (with different machines and etc) showed that ONE official PVE instance is looking for a minimum of 20 GB of RAM. (from task manager & etc). 16 Gbytes ain't sufficient! (And sure I am lazy - I ain't run a linux instance of a server for ever - windows was easier in the short term)

    3) As this thread started - there is NO download for console dudes (unless I am reading the download list wrongly?) Console may be impacted by dodgy Sony / Microsoft encryption "requirements". Therefore that save may be encrypted and not immediately useable. However (certainly for PS4) that encryption is public domain for a loooong time now, and can be worked around.

    4) For both X-Box dudes and PS4 dudes, I would guess that the actual "Save Game" data is really no different to a steam save game - except it may be encrypted with some dodgy console requirements (I cannot definitely comment here because no console game are available to look at). Which same is amenable to decryption. In short, I believe (and and am well open to criticism / comment here), that the restriction on console stuff goes more around the Console providers (Sony / X-Box) making their authentication service (to check if you own the game or not) public or no?????. This is historically in steam a thing that one could in the past "skip", but since epic was introduced as a valid client, that "skip" has gone away. For console guys, the opportunity to "skip" is maybe mandated by Sony / Microsoft. But the getting of "authentication" may drive the ability of the code to decrypt the save?
