    Before you can review a game on Steam, you must first own the game. You can buy games by logging in through Steam’s website or installing Steam on your computer and launching the desktop app.

    So I cannot even go warn peeps on the steam platform without buying the stupid game.
    Bugger this is rapine and pillage unseen since roman times!
    @All you guys that actually bought into the Snail / WC money grab - PLEASE go post on Steam!!!!!

  2. So it seems from the stuff on the table as at ASA release the capability to run private servers has effectively been killed.

    I ain't bought the release (ASA) so cannot comment directly around the validity of this, but as it stands there seems not to be a "Server" Steam ID download, and further there seems not to be an option to "Launch  Dedicated server" in the main game release.

    From comments  in various places (mostly on Nitrado web site);  It seems to be possible to run (for free) one server for each ASA game install that you have purchased. Therefore to run a cluster, you need to go buy ASA for each map that you want to host. Instead of being able to host what you like for anyone for free.

    For a guy that was already well skeptical on the merits of a re-mastered release of a game I currently have and play, I have to say that the chances of me buying this "fancy new" old ark has dropped to exactly 0%

    Sure and its early release - but stuff like this that goes out at release it not likely to alter over time? Bye Bye my $ to AsA!

    this is ridiculous, admins always need to test stuff etc before apply changes. all this nitrado poop deal seems just an invite to open an anti-trust lawsuit on EU court.. it's not just for the map (there is only one map for now)

    Yes - I ain't got the time or inclination to go read that agreement between Snail & Nitrado now - but I am pretty sure from memory that the agreement did NOT give exclusive hosting rights to Nitrado - only COMMERCIAL hosting rights. And this road being followed breaks that contract by making Nitrado the only viable hosting provider, commercial or not.

    Same here. I'll refund the game if I can't get this working.

    So what does the install directory contain? Is there still a ShooterGameServer.exe in the install Binaries directory?

    Is ark launch still the dumbass newbie "I dunno how to rename a project" default UE engine ShooterGame or has it been changed to be ASA.exe? What is in the game download. (I cannot look because no way in life am I gonna buy this re-master until I see solid evidence that it is worth the $)

    Such as the jug bugs being really nice and easy early game tames for Scorched Earth.

    This is I think an excellent idea!

    I was just thinking the leed and a few of the smaller creatures could be used as more QOL things than as battle mounts

    Leeds might prove an issue in PVP - it destroys rafts, and my goto on PVP was to try and run a raft out in the middle of nowhere? Dunno if that is still a thing - I ain't played PVP for a good long while now.

    Special creatures like Rock Golems and Basilisks, both are way too strong without breeding to be allowed to breed and boost their stats to ridiculous heights for the same reason as Reapers.

    100% Agreed!

    is that the mutation system is being overhauled for ASA, and that mutations will apparently no longer give just plain wild levels but have their own "multiplier" (levels?) going on

    Yeah - this I did not understand. They said (I think) that the 254 overflow was being removed? So in theory one could have a max level (say 450) dino with ALL stats in melee? And I think they also talked about the actual mute count, so you cannot do a million mutes and get into negative territory? As I sez - that post flew over my head .......

    On Lost Island i havent found any

    Why you gonna tame one ;)

    They spawn random at a v low % chance. Any wyvern spawn can have them - but if you don't find one the best you can do is slaughter the normal ones and hope for the best in a re-spawn. I have times gone by seen them in the Scorched trench - Rag not so much. But I ain't looked at the actual spawn % - maybe have a scratch in the wiki spawn map to see if one of the spots comes w a higher % chance.

  7. Its a legitimate way to go - casual Ark without the years of grind to build "standard" settings boss armies.

    I personally have not seriously played single player settings since 2016 (I use single player as a sandbox test ground - and I have cranked the settings to be the same as "official") so I cannot comment on what the difficulty is in SP with default settings. But sure it is certainly an attractive option to side step the "grind" bit of Ark and just enjoy the game.

  8. In terms of the speed nerf being "optional" depending on (server) .ini settings, I am skeptical. I refer to the flyer speed nerf that came out ages ago (very similar to this!) and then a while later a patch allowed the flyer speed to be .ini controllable. However that patch has never worked 100% with movement stats being reset at odd times, or not applying at all, or just not working.

    And with regard to PVE / PVP meta and "rules": Someone above said "its one game" - live with it. It is not only "the meta" that punishes PVE people. Why are decay rules different between the two game modes? When someone is offline for x days, then make their dinos / structures open to claiming by a 3rd party - and the 3rd party can choose to build on or destroy the ruins? Why can PVE not pick up wild dinos with a flyer? Because PVE people don't protect a base like PVP people do so griefing is an issue. My view here is bent towards PVP - any person that builds a monstrous blockade across the safe costal road from A to B SHOULD have 20 pegos and 30 raptors and half a dozen acid spitting arthropleurid's dropped in the middle of their base ;) But yeah - this lot is just my opinion. The best answer is not to play official, and the really top tier answer is to host your own server(s) to play the game as you like!

    Wouldn't have mattered. Dont know if you're trolling or what, but you cant beat a Boss with a bunch of random crap dinos like the ones you've assembled. You're wasting your time and since you dont seem to be listening to anyone's advice, our time as well.

    He / She can and HAS done this prior to now with other boss battles. This is not the 1st post OP makes around "recommended" army for a particular battle, and he / she has  come right with (to my view) ludicrously under powered dinos. It all goes around the context of settings ........

  10. I must agree with @TheOneAboveAll, Killing movement speed chops out a whole playstyle. I also don't want a toon with the carry capacity of an 18 wheeler, or a rambo guy with more hit points than wild giga. That's not how I like to play games - any game!

    So yeah - a bad move, poorly done from my view.

    But then I guess it don't impact me because I fully intend carrying right on with A S E - A S A is not on my radar at all!

    Difficulty 0.2

    Arent they the normal settings?

    There are more than one setting that controls difficulty:
    DifficultyOffset=0.2                                         Default is 0.2
    OverrideOfficialDifficulty=x.x                          Default is unset
    MaxDifficulty=False                                          Default is False
    So if all you have set is the DifficultyOffset=0.2 - then you should be seeing max level wild dinos on The Island of no more than 24. In which case your army is very high level.

    On official servers (I think) the following settings are standard (And for my part at least this is what I run my game for both single player and local servers)
    DifficultyOffset=1.0
    MaxDifficulty=True
    Here dinos come out at max level 150 in the wild.

    Then there is the "Single Player" setting somewhere that bends everything differently again - I dunno what the impact of that setting is.

    Well, it totally destroyed our Gen2 server including all backups so I lost EVERYTHING. Bye bye years of breeding..... Thanks WC nice minor update!

    Mmmm - after waiting all morning for zip's of the various directories to finish, I done both the Client and Sever update - and my server started Ok and was playable.

    Yes the "official" network no longer shows - but that is expected.

    I did not specifically run Gen2 - but The Island worked OK.
