  1. What do I get for buying ASA? I get a (portion = 1 map) of game that I already own. I get fancy graphics. (maybe - if my machine is adequate) I get wild baby dinos. I get a QOL tame tracker. At a price point equivalent to current full game releases I get a buggy early access version. I get a bunch of the bugs present in the predecessor ASE that still manifest. I get uncertainty about the sustainability of running my own servers. (sure it currently works - but for how long?) I get the ability to cross play with other platforms. What I don't get buying ASA? Something that goes beyond (from a user perspective - I don't care what the underlying engine is) the scope of what has in the past been a patch release of ASE. A new and exciting experience that is waiting to be explored. A polished product that is ready for release. I don't care about cross play. I don't weigh fancy graphics very highly. I don't need to (again) be an "in the wild" tester for Wild Card - done that for many years now. I do care about novelty and new experience. And this is the killer for me. This is not a new game. I have played the bones of this game since 2016. I do not need to drive those bones with a new bit of paint over them again. And I do care about having control of how and where I can run a server. So do I plan to buy ASA? Hell NO!
  2. Either this is region locked, or I have the wrong App ID, or the change has been rolled back? Connecting anonymously to Steam Public...OK Waiting for client config...OK Waiting for user info...OK app_update 2430930 ERROR! Failed to install app '2430930' (No subscription) quit ----------EDIT----------- OK a 2nd attempt worked?
  3. That right there compared to FREE hosting of private servers is the killer! If you have bought the game and can comment on steam (which I ain't been suckered into the money grab - so I can't) PLEASE go post that it is a FAIL
  4. Fair enough on all counts - but for a casual player / hoster, the world ain't looking promising given legal stuff that is out there ..........
  5. I think you missing the point? 1) you will need to buy a copy of the game FOR EACH MAP that you want to host - in addition to your own "game client": and your kids / mates game client. 2) It is not proven that even with multiple purchase of the game that it CAN run on a private server in your LAN, or even a private server somewhere in the cloud. It looks like the current "release" restricts people to exactly one map at a time - No "Cluster" no more.
  6. Stick with what you have - a working ASE cluster for your own pleasure!
  7. @darkradeon Did you have to pay full price for a "server" download, or was it reduced from the game price? Or did you get the server download by having a purchase of the game client? And have you tried to run server & client (I assume same steam login) on different machines (this last is rubbish - if the server now also authenticates to Steam - then "multiple login" will kick out)
  8. If you look in the other thread ( ) Even buying a NASA computer may not avail you - there might be issues running multiple copies of the game on one public IP address, and there ARE issues running multiple copies of the game on one machine!
  9. Stick with what you have - a working ASE cluster for your own pleasure!
  10. serverS is the dodge. It allows one, single, a server - not servers
  11. Stick with AsE - until some dodgy "patch" breaks that also .....
  12. As it seems to be right now - No, private small clusters are no more a viable thing. Sure, possible but at enormous expense compared to how ASE was. No one here has yet tried to run 2 instances of the only released map on a LAN (like I ran a cluster of a bunch of different maps). So far it seems given a Windows server, It is not possible to run ASA "twice" on one box (Not even a "Host the game" and a "Play the Game"). So at a minimum one needs to run VM's or separate physical servers for each map instance. What is not yet verified is if that source public IP address of servers has any impact on "multiple copies". In other words can I host two bought copies of ASA on 2 VM's (or even 2 separate physical servers in my LAN) through the same public IP address. And then still be able to play the damned game on MY server(s) on MY public IP address?
  13. Mmmmm I just read this properly - Good luck with ASM as well I do not assert it (not having bought into the money grab), but I would expect that ASM no longer is working thing either .............
  14. LOL yep - given the posts - that is exactly what I would expect. Bugger this is really a bye bye ASA ...........
  15. If it now validates against Nitrado rather than steam - then yep thats also a dead duck. With steam, I can run a chroot copy of the game with its own steam login - and I should be good to go. But its academic without a linux version posted somewhere ..........
  16. Yeah and your 10k people gets you a TEMPOROY license .......
  17. So in linux there are ways around this with just one physical server - BUT given the way it is right now, I will bet dollars that a linux version (server or otherwise) simply does not release.
  18. Well strictly speaking they did not really fail - they fulfilled the contract that brought them some $ to go on with. But from a wanna be online player perspective sure in life, it is a fail!
  19. Cool and good luck - without buying a copy of ASA for each map instance (sure and now there is only "The Island"), but PLEASE try and run 2 instances of that map - especially on 1 sever ....... and THEN report back.
  20. Not gonna happen - this is core networking game code - not something that can be "moded"
  21. Clearly you have no idea about playing on or running private ark servers ..........
  22. I guess you aint tried goldburg or steamemu? That stuff died a long time ago - but with a fat rework like this there is hope?
  23. Including running a one map server and the client on one box?
  24. "One application instance allowed per login" So how does one run more than one map on a single server???????????? I dunno that it is possible to login to steam on multiple accounts on one box ........
