  1. Kiah's Community Server, Unofficial, The Island While I was at work today, C had quite a day. He did not succeed at frog breeding, borrowed an asc longneck bp and made a very expensive rifle, then immediately lost it and a newly bred saber to a lagged jump at the end of the lava cave. Yep. I did my best to console him and said to consider it a sacrifice to the Ark gods for luck. Little did I know, I was right. He was at work by the time I got home, so I logged in to play solo. Well, as solo as one can be on a server. Today started much the same as yesterday. I started with a bigger metal run to help recover the cost of the longneck, then began running drops and doing some slow sweeps around my favored hunting areas. I got a 150 argent, but lag shot it right as it went down. Stats did not turn out well, but I can use the colors for breeding, I guess. But then as I was hunting around checking theris by green ob, I found not one but two 135 brontos, a male and female nearly side by side. I couldn't believe my luck. So I did what any enterprising hunter would do. I KO'd them both, spent a game night building protective pens for both of them, then flew home and got kibble. My rare double bronto tame did not go unnoticed by B, the server's bronto collector. He's obssessed with breeding a bronto line for rhynio taming. He had one stat left missing from his base bloodline: stamina. I didn't check either bronto's pretame stats as I was too busy trying to ensure they lived long enough to be worth the kibble I tamed them with, using up all of our preciously small supply. The first bronto stood up with 40 stamina. Success! B was so excited he offered to bring a bronto over right away to breed. Then the other bronto tamed. 42 stamina! He was even more excited and dragged his male halfway across the map to breed with my female. I gave him the egg as he was raising brontos and I wouldn't have time until the weekend. I am quite happy to finally have contributed something to the server, and I also hope that means if the stats pass successfully I'll get an egg from the finished base bloodline. Both of us continued to enjoy the favor of the Ark gods. On the way home B found a 150 oviraptor to tame. I found a 140 theri just down the beach from our base. I flew it up to drop in our entryway that doubles as a taming pen, made more kibble and tamed it up and we now have breedable HP for our soon to start theri bloodline. We don't have a male yet but hopefully I can find one that will give me stamina. I told C his sacrifice was not in vain, but did not tell him what happened tonight. I imagine he'll be quite surprised when he logs in tomorrow. I do feel a bit bad as it was late enough and I was tired by that point, so I didn't really restock as much as I would have liked. I did shift some animals around in the pen, kind of had to with two brontos now taking up a not insignificant amount of room. That was it for the night.
  2. Kiah's Community Server, Unofficial, The Island Slow day on the Ark. Went hunting. Got ambushed by a 150 male rhynio, because why not. At least now we've got a pheromone. Tamed a couple of direwolves. One had pretty good stats, at least. The other's sacrificial. We still don't have a male wolf for breeding though. Didn't find any decent drops either. By the time C logged in I was kinda tired after a few hours of flying around seeing not much of anything, so I logged for the night. Honestly this is the phase of the game I dislike most, being reliant on rng to acquire what you need to enter the early endgame phase. Maybe I'll see if I can buy some eggs or something to move it along.
  3. Kiah's Community Server, Unofficial, The Island I am pleased to report tribemate C has really started getting into this build. He's put together a very nice sea pen with an attached tiki bar and garden. He says he's very proud of it, I think maybe a new builder is being born lol. I've been helping out with some general ideas and suggestions but the build is all his. He also seems to be making some friends on the server, which is great. He told me at the start he was too shy to talk to other people but it seems the ultra friendly community Kiah is fostering has won him over. One of my suggestions was to ask her to do a painting for the bar, I think it would be nice to kind of tie in to it seeing as we've got a nice little community center going now. Can't wait to see what it will look like when it's done. As for my own contribution today, I invested quite a bit of time into running drops with my newly adult quetzal, Zynzal. Finally something that can carry stuff! Didn't get much of note, but I did get our first sheep tamed. Then I found a 145 theri, which I carried over to the bar so C could shoot it out of Zynzal's claws lol. Easy tame now that we have kibble and narcos. Then I grabbed a 140 bary, another easy carry, shoot and tame. Then I found a nice little gift for C, a 130 frog to potentially add to his breeding line. A little low I know but finding decent frogs has been a struggle. That was about it for today. This is the slightly annoying part of the game where you can spend a lot of days getting not much of anything done if the game doesn't feel like giving you anything. That I got two good tames was highly unexpected, to say the least.
  4. Kiah's Community Server, Unofficial, The Island Had an immensely successful weekend. First, I got about 90% of the main base build done. Caught tribemate C trying to make an ugly behemoth gate water pen for his frogs. Took them all down and am making him build a proper PVE pen with design and aesthetics, and only one gate lol. Borrowed one gate for the fence for our yard on the lower ridge beneath the main base. Got a grinder and a few vaults up too, always nice to have. Lots of taming, too. Got a few birds for my first breeding project, a color morph inspired by my other big gaming love, FFXIV. A saber that tamed out with 53 HP for future cave adventures. A 145 yuty that was probably one of the most scuffed chases I've ever had, I honestly have no idea how I didn't die on that one. A friendly neighbor airlifted it home for me, and someone else gifted me a quetz egg for our own future air taxi. Also stumbled across a bee, so we can officially make ourselves kibble now which is fantastic. I almost put it to use right away with a 145 rex on carno island, but by the time C had any done the rex tamed. Got another bug taxi home. Kinda feel bad I accidentally fed C to bears twice yesterday taming one for honey that we now don't even need it for lol. All good though, he had never tamed one before so he had fun with it. There was quite a kerfuffle on the server too, a 150 female rhynio popped so there was a whole bug taming event organized. I think at least 5-6 people got babies from that queen. It was nice to see, everyone working together and waiting their turn. The bug eventually died accidentally much later on. I was a bit sad that we weren't prepared for it, but considering we've only been on server for I don't know, 2 weeks max, can't expect anything yet. Now that we have our kibble supply secured though, it is on like Donkey Kong. It's hard to keep secrets from C but I think I'm gonna try breeding up a little gift for him too, if I can. I think I need to make my own fridge for my room so he can't peek at the eggs and see what I'm doing. Hiding the babies themselves will be another matter though. Anyway, I'm quite pleased. We're in a much stronger position now and can turn our attention mainly toward hunting during the week.
  5. Kiah's Community Server, Unofficial, The Island Tough day today, have to admit. After stuffing myself with turkey and pie, I logged in to get started on the main base build. C had started prepping materials, of course in the most convoluted way possible. But the thought was there. I spent quite a bit of time scouting around the immediate area and killing annoying theris until I finally found where I wanted to set up. Not too far into the jungle there's a series of ridges that are relatively flat. It's quite a bit further from where I had initially thought but I got really inspired when I saw it so I set to work. I managed to get the whole base level built, and that's about where the trouble started. I took a break and went on a flight north with Smoke, my argent C tamed for me. I wasn't really looking for anything in particular, I just wanted to take a break. Grabbed a few drops, including a new anky saddle. Very handy, especially as C accidentally drowned our anky. He did tame a new one but hadn't saddled it yet. I came across a low level female yuty in a fantastic spot for taming, so I took her down and tamed her. Unfortunately the walk home did not go well. She got stuck on nothing in the river and was almost eaten by piranhas. I had to jump in and spear them all to death individually then whistle her onto dry land. But alas, she met her end shortly after. Pack of allos on one side, alpha raptor on the other. What can ya do. I did bring back a consolation prize, at least. I found a baby rex, watched its parent die to a large saber pack. Claimed it, flew it home and am now raising it, hoping it will survive the night on the trough. Since it was still a baby I went back to building, where I could keep an eye on it at the same time. But alas, the server was not doing well. Several crashes later it ended up with a rollback that undid quite a bit of the work I had just done. Defeated, I gave up on building for the night. I did some general around the base maintenance tasks then sat idle, checking on the rex now and again. It's not a good level at all but it was free and we definitely need an apex carnivore. Plus it has nice colors, I'll keep it for breeding later. Have to admit I'm a bit disappointed, we haven't been getting any yuty eggs yet. Really need a male. Once we get the kibble moving so much of the game is going to open up. For now it's just that midgame grindfest. Once the baby hit juvenile I called it a night.
  6. SE is supposed to drop in December but I'd guess it will likely be delayed to the end of January.
  7. Kiah's Community Server, Unofficial, The Island After a few days of being busy, I logged in to see what was going on. Tribemate C has been busy taming but this is one of my pet peeves, using tribe resources and not replacing them. And also neglecting the base in general. He's never played with other people before though so I'm trying not to be too hard on him. I just grit my teeth a bit and got to work. First I cleaned up the animals, which were scattered all over the place and a couple of them weren't even in the pen. Had to save his para from being eaten by a dilo. Then I went ahead and built the basics for electrical so we now have a generator, fridge and 3 ACs to start a hatchery. Naturally that also meant an oil run, so I went out and did that, gathering enough oil for about a week plus some leftover for crafting purposes. Then I spent a bit of time organizing mats. Put a few of our fertilized eggs down to incubate, ran a short metal run, almost forgot to pick the eggs up before they hatched. Don't have time for raising right now, just wanted to get them close. I am mildly annoyed he built another extension to this temporary base when he knows I'm starting the main base build soon but whatever. I don't mind exactly but we're starting to block travel lanes and that's generally not something you want to do on a community server. That was why I wanted to build up on the ridge in the first place, so we'd be out of the way. I think I can still try to incorporate some of his design into my build but even he admits he is not much of a builder. I'm hoping I can teach him a bit through the course of the build. That was pretty much it for the night. I do want to try to tame some yutys before I start the build so we can start collecting a good stock of eggs for kibble. I expect my build is going to take anywhere from 1-2 weeks of daily play to do depending on how much assistance I get.
  8. Kiah's Community Server, Unofficial, No Mods, The Island Well, the one thing I did forget about (and don't miss) from playing on a server...the dreaded post-patch server update lol More of a mild inconvenience but I'd hoped to get on a bit early and work on a project to surprise tribemate C. He's working tonight and can't play so it'd be a prime opportunity for hijinks, if not shenanigans! Also I didn't realize it but I inadvertently claimed territory across the river from Crabby so we're almost neighbors lol. I definitely need to work on a decent build if Cap's going to be hanging around in the area! I'm nowhere near his level but I am a bit of a builder myself. But to do that I need utility dinos, and levels. Lots of levels. First, I logged on and was surprised to see C tamed an argent. Not saddled since neither of us is high enough level. Yet. I may be a PVE player, but I've watched enough PVP to know some of the basic strats, which I took heavy advantage of this evening. C tamed me a ptera last night so I took it out for an exp note run. I don't have the optimal pathing, but I do have a pretty good memory and simply ran down a bunch of the ones I knew about and had easy access to. Once buffed I went on an absurd narc farm since we had tons of spoiled meat already. I admit, this is a bit cheeky of me to do. C has a fair few hours in ASE but his knowledge is still relatively limited. He's going to be so confused when he logs in tomorrow lol. He had been about 13 levels ahead of me. Now he's 14 levels behind. He's not going to have any idea how I did it. Once I had my levels, I saddled the argent. Now, I don't generally condone using other people's personal tames but I felt this situation warranted it. I was very careful with his bird as I got to work. First since we were nearby I went to herb island and grabbed an anky. KO'd it outside base and tamed it up. Once it was done I took it up to Far's Peak for a metal run. While there I spotted a doed. Went home, loaded the forge, went back and grabbed the doed. Tamed that. Happened to get a moschops walk into base while I was putting some stuff away, tamed it. Had a baby so free backup moschops, no complaints here. Then I went out and scoured The Island for my least favorite utility tame...a beaver. I greatly prefer mammoths but beavers can be carried so...it ended up being quite a hunt but I tracked one down all the way at the opposite corner of the map, by the volcano. That was a long flight. But we got it home and KO'd. Found a 145 lystro wandering around nearby so I tamed that too. Finished the night organizing the animals and putting away supplies. I had hoped to do more, specifically getting us into electrical, but I simply ran out of time. All in all though an extremely successful day. I can't wait for C's reaction when he logs in and see a whole set of utility dinos sitting there, all saddled up and ready to go.
  9. Kiah's Community Server, Unofficial, No Mods, The Island Yep, I did a thing. As happy as I am to be on single player, I've been really missing server play and the last really good unofficial I was on was a YTer server so...I'm gonna try another one. I feel like Kiah's a bit underrated in the Monarky and from what I've seen I trust her to do a good job running a server so I'm braving the high ping of EU to join in the fun. Spent my evening doing the basic bob beach life. Leveled up, built a raft, built up the raft, died to a dilo while afk, killed the dilo and stole its baby in revenge, you know, the usual. I had wanted to at least level up enough to get a ptera but ended up a bit shy in level and wasn't finding any good pteras anyway. Ended up sailing pretty much all the way from west 3 to halfway up the east coast. This is quite the busy little server, lots of bases and a very active chat. Got to wave to cap's boat on my way by too, that was neat. I think I'll like it here. I found a place to park and set up a really basic box (ugh) build, I don't know if I'll stay here or not just yet. After a bit I was joined by a friend, C, so it seems I'm running a tribe again. Another friend K may join up with us later on, and my old tribemate M if he can upgrade his computer. For now, we've got grinding to do.
  10. @Dave192 This is literally the one time when narcoberries are actually the better play. Because they apply torpor so slowly you can spam them all in and then have 20 minutes or so of breathing room. The downside is that many berries are heavy to be carrying around lol. Had an enormously successful weekend, I have to say. Yesterday was...ok. I didn't play a ton but enough to go hunt for more raptors. I ended up with 3 140+ megaloceros instead, which I tamed up and ended up doing a little breeding project with them. This was mainly a test for my breeding settings, which ended up being prescient because it's taking quite a bit of tweaking to get them where I want it. Imprints still need some adjusting but I can do them now, at least. I spent probably 3 hours just messing around with my world settings then went to bed way too late. Also submitted my first bug report for ASA after discovering an amusing visual bug and some very confused elk babies... Today was the big win, I have catapulted myself up a tier for sure. First I got annoyed looking for a high level male raptor so I tamed a low level and used it as a pivot to breed with my 2 females to get a decent mount. I used that raptor to go to the volcano cave and farm up chitin, which I turned into paste, then polymer. I now have a generator, 2 fridges, a grill, and power! Nice. I then turned my attention to the next biggest thing on my list, literally and figuratively: yutys. It took quite a chunk of the afternoon but I hunted down a low level pair of yutys then walked them all the way home out of the snow. Ah, the good old days. It may have taken longer but I stuck to the coast/rivers rather then try to cut cross country though all the bad stuff with low visibility. Once I had my yutys, I, well, bred my yutys. Culled the babies until I got 4 females and raised them up. Made a pearl run so I could craft the saddle and get them all set up. Then I grabbed the first couple of eggs produced and went out to tame an oviraptor. Went with a lowish level just to have it. Then with so many big dinos, there are lots of big dino poops to pick up. I took advantage to stock up and took my bred raptor all the way out to central cave and battled our way through waves of angry spiders (seriously why are there so many!?) to get to the real prize: dung beetle! Got the beetle home and set up and while it was making fertilizer I got my irrigation and crop plots set up. A few cycles later and I have my farm. Unfortunately success came with a setback. Having forgotten I whistled passive to tame the oviraptor, I didn't notice a dilo attacking my mammoth until it was far too late. I will never understand why dilos aggro so much random stuff that could smush them into paste. Sigh. So it was back to the snow for a new mammoth tame. At least I have fur and a random otter I spotted while walking one of the yutys home. And yes this is entirely on me for being too lazy/confident to think I should bother putting up behemoth gates just for the mammoth. The sad part is it would have been completely fine if I left it on the other side of the base, too. The first one I saw was a 145. Obviously I don't have kibble yet but...even a bad tame would be better so I did it. Tame got ruined by a pack of sabers but the mammoth lived and after way too long listening to it snore we made our way home. By that time it was pretty late in the evening so I finished out the day with some scouting for where I want my main base build to be.
  11. Not really, I see them in all their usual spots. If anything they seem to be more common. Try the edges of the redwoods, I see a lot along there.
  12. Devs are people too. Given how many launch problems they had, they likely worked around the clock for the whole first week to push all those patches out and now they've slowed down some to take a break. They're also likely preparing for the console launch in just a few days. I'd guess we'll probably see a pretty big patch in advance of the drop, then another wave of patches all next week afterwards.
  13. Single Player, Vanilla, The Island Started off my day more or less where I left off last night. With my new rex in need of a saddle, I took my argent out to farm yet more hide. It is a grind without a good carnivore. Eventually I got what I needed, got my saddle, and an achievement to go with it. I immediately took my new, very large guard dog out on a hide run. Hey, even a crappy rex is still a rex. Hide won't be a problem anymore. With that in mind, I turned my attention to my base infrastructure. Specifically, it's time to move up to the electrical tier. However, I almost immediately ran into some problems. First, without the convenience of tek dinos I would need to go pearl hunting for the first time in ages. Luckily the little pond/river by carno point still has them. Second, paste. Ugh, paste. Bane of my Ark life since 2015. Obviously I need either a frog or a cave dino. If I want a frog, I definitely want high level ones in anticipation of swamp cave. Definitely don't have the resources for it yet. So that leaves normal cave dinos, either a raptor or a saber, which are easy to tame, easy to transport, and generally low maintenance. So the hunt began. I did some slow sweeps along my usual dino hunting grounds. I found a high level raptor surprisingly quickly and got it down, but in the 10 seconds it took me to turn around and get meat from the bird, a random dilo appeared and ruined the tame. The raptor didn't die but obviously no point. I left it and moved on. Eventually found and tamed another, and a baby trike while I was at it. I felt guilty for killing his brother for prime meat, then his father for trying to protect his family. Carried the raptor and had the trike follow and we all made it home. Sorry trike. You can live in safety and relative peace now. Found another raptor, tamed it and spotted another while carrying it home. Both of my tames are females and I need a male and this one was. Hurried back but unfortunately I lost it. Either it died to something or I missed it in the brush. Either way, after a long and fruitless canvassing of the area we gave up and turned for home. In comparing stats, I didn't do too badly. But I still need a high level male so I can breed them. I did scrape together enough paste to make the fabricator, but that was about it. So all in all, while it wasn't a bad day per se it was still kind of a bust. Best part of the day was getting a slightly better crossbow from a drop on my way by.
  14. Single Player, Vanilla, The Island After a dreary and rather irritating day at work I was quite excited to come home to my tropical not-quite paradise... And had myself a fantastic Ark day. First, I went on a rescue mission to save my other dilo. It's a long story but the short version is he ended up stranded on the coast near carno point because I didn't have anything that could carry him and it was too far to walk. So I took my new argent out and picked him up. He's almost luckier than Lucky was. Then I decided to take my own advice about the rule of 2 for birds and fish and went in search of another argent. Nighttime temperatures sent us winging back south to a warmer clime, however. Well, there's always something to do back at base, like make more tranq arrows. We returned in the early morning and I quickly located my choice pick: a beautiful blue male that I knew I had to have as soon as I laid eyes on him. Only level 55, but a fact of little import in the midgame. I used the upper volcano path to kite and successfully KO him, well above any other dino spawns so I could safely do a prime meat run. Really dredging up my old ASE memories, tactics and techniques that have gone unused for years in the advent of modern Ark conveniences. Tamed him and got him home safely. Now that I have a breeding pair, I went ahead and bred them, hatched the egg and raised my first notable baby. By this point dusk was falling so I spent another night at base. In fact, I decided somewhat on a whim to expand and put a nice addition on the side, with a perch for my rapidly growing flock of birds so they're up off the ground and away from danger. Not that there's much to worry about and I do have a fence, but birds are too valuable at this stage of the game. With my new bird grown and saddled, I took my anky out on our first real metal run. It's a bit awkward that my anky has higher carry weight than my argent does, but we made it work. But it was also extremely apparent that I would need a wood gatherer very soon to keep my hungry forge and campfire burning. So we set off again on a mission that is daring but familiar to me: a mammoth hunt. Yes, I went taming in the snow without fur, cryopods, or even a raft. I quickly located my most likely target and while I was in fact freezing to death, I was able to KO a low level female and get berries in her. My torch was just enough to keep me from dying until the temperatures rose a bit out of the lethal zone. While she tamed up I spent my time clearing our most likely path of any problem dinos, including an allo pack and a pig. Honestly the hardest part was walking her off the glacier. Once we made it to the pond it was quite easy to just walk down the coast, enjoying the benefits of the improved pathing AI. She did get stuck once but all in all I was well pleased. Naturally a new tame means a new run for hide so I went out and did that. Then on a bit of a whim I flew back to that forest I mentioned with the rexes again. Yes, I was very sorely tempted to, well, tempt fate. But as luck would have it I would not have to try fending off multiple rexes and the alpha for custody of the baby. Instead I found a low level adult female wandering off by herself. I had the arrows, a bird, and a lot of experience flying proverbial kites. So I made her angry and brought her down to the beach and brought her down. Came back from a meat run to find an alpha raptor camping her, so I had to kite that away. Then I came back to seagulls, which I shot to keep them from stealing the precious meat I had just farmed. Then we had to fend off a wave of pegos. But finally, finally, she tamed and stood up. It was an easy walk home, of course. I don't have enough hide to make her a saddle yet but that's ok. She's not a great level, her primary purpose will be eggs and protecting the mammoth, as she will not fit through my dino gate and I'm too lazy to build a new fence and behemoth gate just for her. So yeah, the mammoth has a pet rex, basically. Given how much I accomplished, I felt that would be a good stopping point for the day. I'll farm the saddle tomorrow and after that...who knows? It is becoming painfully obvious that I do need fur armor, and soon.
  15. First rule of Ark: never go anywhere with anything you can't afford to lose. Caves can be done on foot--if you're very familiar with the layout and know what to expect (and have lots of grapples) but for the average newbie, this is definitely not a beginner strat. How you recover from it is more or less how you learn to play the game as Ark has never been particularly forgiving of mistakes. What I would recommend doing personally, is to wait. Leave your gear, that's lost. You can make it again. Before you go in again, I recommend finding a mate for your baryonyx and breeding them. Raise the baby. Make a spare saddle. Then try again. The important part is that it's bred, not because a low level with an imprint is going to be strong, but because bred tames are disposable. Sad but that's Ark for you. And don't enter the cave with anything you consider valuable. That way if you/the bary dies you aren't really losing anything except some time. Side note, I also highly recommend doing this for birds and aquatic tames, too. Get one, then get a mate and bred them. Use the baby, not the parents. This way when one inevitably gets lost or killed, you aren't set back so much by such a loss. Basically you need to go into everything in this game with the attitude that you and/or your dinos will die and adjust accordingly.
  16. Yeah, they're set to neutral by default. Gotta claim them, set to passive, then unclaim and kill them lol. Or kill them before they grow up. #justarkthings right there.
  17. This is apparently a problem with Curseforge (according to reddit) and they are working on it on their end.
  18. Honestly this was probably my favorite ASE thread, loved seeing what everyone gets up to every day. How about a new one for our ASA adventures? Single Player, Vanilla, The Island I started playing on Sunday and it's been a rough few days honestly. I forgot just how primitive vanilla Ark really is. I finally managed to get a foothold last night with my first real base camp and a low level pelagornis. It was all I needed. Today began with a very short metal run. The pela can only really carry about 100 metal at a time, but it's better than nothing. With the forge burning I set off for my next goal straight away: an argentavis. I headed to the volcano and, since level doesn't matter for me right now, naturally I picked the prettiest bird I could find. Only a level 20 but good enough. A quick KO and I did a cheeky metal run while she tamed. By the time she stood up I had stuffed a couple hundred metal, some obsidian and wood in her inventory to carry home for me. We flew home and I ran into a problem: not enough hide to make the saddle. I took my best (ok, only) option to go hunting with: my very low level, bred parasaur. Yep. It really was rough going. So I pretty much ran around killing every dodo and dilo I could find. I was just about done when I found a 140 moschops roaming around. Now, I did not have what it wanted to tame. But, it did have a baby. And for the first and likely far from the last time, I killed a parent to steal its baby. I already had a moschops, but this was way better. In fact, it was now my best tame. I walked it home with no problems, finished the saddle, then promptly had our explorations curtailed by a cold front at night. At dawn we headed back to the volcano. I had scouted a couple of ankys while taming the argent, but by the time I returned they were gone, presumably eaten by the raptors in their place. As luck would have it, I did find a low level doed nearby and quickly grabbed it to carry home. I don't have a taming pen, I just kite them along the stretch of beach outside my camp. Nothing dangerous spawns here so it's no problem. While the doed tamed, I did another hide run. Much easier with the bird. Took note of a rex with a baby in the forest a short distance away, but I am definitely not going to be grabbing that any time soon. It's protected by 3 adult rexes...and an alpha rex. No thanks. Man is it easy to get greedy with these babies though, I won't lie I entertained the thought. Briefly. Once the doed was tamed and saddled, I headed out once more on the argent. This time, we did find an anky. A 140. Now, I am barely above beach bob level at this point. I am in no way prepared for a high level anything tame, never mind a herbivore without kibble. But what I did have was some crops I had recently pulled out of a drop. And this being The Island, well, when the Ark gods give you a gift the only acceptable response is yes, thanks. So I carried the anky home, let it roam around in base while I prepped taming supplies, then kited it up and down the beach until it went down. And yes, I tamed it on crops and mejos. It actually wasn't that bad, I only lost I think 2 levels and used maybe 20 narcotics and some berries I farmed with the new moschops. Farmed even more hide for this saddle while it tamed. Disaster almost struck right at the end of the evening, however, in the form of a game crash. I was very nervous loading in as in all the excitement I hadn't saved manually in awhile. Luckily it only set me back to the end of the anky tame and all I really lost out on was a bit of cleanup and organization. I quickly redid most of it and decided to call it a night. If the game wants to go to bed who am I to say no? And now I have time to think about what I want to do tomorrow.
  19. I saw a couple on the volcano. The spawns are more or less the same, but doeds are even harder to see now in the foliage because they tend to get attacked and balled up a lot.
  20. Very enjoyable day today. Continued work on my base, getting the walls up for the second level and doing about 1/3 of the ceiling. Took a break from building because I'm going to start needing more advanced resources soon, which means better utility tames and more importantly, an actual combat tame. Honestly I impress myself with just how well I know this map after only playing on it once. I made my way over to the oil vein area and it didn't take long to find my quarry, a high level thyla. Got it down, tamed, brought back to base. Then went out again and found a second high level thyla. KO'd, tamed, brought it back to base too. If you're wondering, no I'm not insanely lucky nor did I use spawn commands. I have the Better Spawns mod that makes story maps more playable by given them Ragnarok level distributions. Did several rounds of breeding until I managed to get twin females with all my stats. 40 HP and 41 melee, now that part definitely was lucky! One will be kept for breeding. The other I imprinted and named after Misha, my mom's late and recently departed cat, due to the similarly in coloring. Spent the rest of my time mass crafting clay and gathering resources for the next build session. I am surprisingly content right now, honestly I forgot how much I love this map. Standing with my thyla cubs watching a lightning storm raging, with the flickering glow of the torches at my back...it's really something.
  21. Taking a break from FFXIV to come back and enjoy the "final days" of Ark before moving on to ASA. Decided to switch it up and do a randomized map order just to see how far I can get. For my own sanity gamma will be sufficient for advancement as that's still an ascension, even if it's a weak one. Glad I did because my order is definitely, well, random lol. My first map to play is Scorched Earth. I'm actually ok with this. I really enjoyed the map the last (and incidentally, first) time I played it. I really wish people would take a cue from SE and do more environmental themed maps rather than trying to cram every biome in to max out on creatures in a thinly veiled attempt to make every map "Ragnarok, but bigger/better". Fjordur at least had the different realms going for it, but I would have loved a whole map that was basically just Vanaheim expanded. Or even Asgard. Anyway. So I spawned in and got to work leveling up, taming my first set of utility dinos, and making the trek to my new old base location. I decided I wanted to build there again and rebuild my old SE base which I absolutely loved the design of, only this time I'm actually going to finish it. Never finished the roof level last time. Btw my "trick" for surviving early game in SE is to level fortitude first, not movement speed. Everything's going to kill you anyway but you'll live longer if you're not overheated and dehydrating every 30 seconds. I only died once and it was due to exploring a bit too far and getting kapro'd at a watering hole before I had desert cloth. My entire day after that was basically mass clay crafting. I really need a moschops for fiber but I haven't seen any, got a low level argent and scouted around for one already. Making do with the sickle for now. Made a ton of progress though, helps that I've already done this design once before lol. Got the base level done and am about halfway through the second level. It's not exactly the way I built it before but I do think it's much cleaner this time around. Very excited to keep working on it over the course of the week. Kinda funny how unnecessary it is tbh but sometimes I just make a build that I really love and this is one of them.
  22. Unofficial Cluster; The Island, Genesis 2 Did some last minute prep then headed up to the blue obelisk with E and M and we took down the Alpha Megapthicus. Nice to get some Tekgrams. Then I popped over to G2 to pick through E's stock of breeding tek rexes with his permission, as I am officially taking over the line. Picked out a pair, happened to be the only female he hadn't bred yet with a matching stat male. Brought them back to The Island and popped the resulting egg. Raised the baby alongside 4 snow owls since our flyer box is getting empty again. Not sure where all the birds are disappearing to, but I'm still working on my stat builds anyway so it's not hard to restock. Crafted up a ton of narcotics, cementing paste, and polymer. Should be able to craft our first replicator tomorrow, if E doesn't do it himself anyway. That was it for the night.
  23. Unofficial Cluster, The Island Not much doing today, just breeding. Saber line still isn't finished, couple of bad rolls. Stubborn. I'll sell off the slightly lower leveled cats, sure we're not the only ones taking on The Island. M unfortunately crashed while transferring maps last night, he got his character sorted but discovered today he had apparently lost the spinos he'd been taking across with him. We have a couple left so I bred them and put the egg on his body, he'll find it tomorrow. Didn't want to pop it myself so he can imprint the baby. Noticed he had tamed a unicorn, happens to be female while I have a male. Breeding them just for fun. No idea if anyone on the server will want one but I might try to sell it anyway. He also got a male moschops so I bred our first one up to prepare for bloodstalker taming. Bred thylas, shadowmanes and owls. Not really making progress on the first two but finally popped a decent owl to advance the line. It's not really a breeding line but there's no reason not to combine the stats if I'm already sitting here anyway. Same with thylas, but when I get mine combined I'll send one over to E, who has his own thyla line going but I noticed mine have better stats. I love thylas, I'm just not super interested in breeding them now that I have my 'manes. The maewings are a bit of a mess right now so I think I'll have to sort them out tomorrow. The part that sucks about being on a different continent than the rest of your tribe is that you get stuck online alone a lot of the time. No one else was really around so it was just me and the babies. Wasn't too much else to do except make some narcotics. Got everyone to juvenile and ended early for the night.
  24. Unofficial Cluster, The Island Work was awful today and I came home with a headache. So I kept it simple and stuck to breeding. Finally popped a perfect male saber to go with my perfect female. I also got my first melee mutation. Nice. So this project is almost done, just need to do a little cleanup. They have all the stats they need but there's a 3 level difference between the two perfects that I need to fix. The melee mutation is also both female and lacking one stat so I need to bred her to the perfect male to hopefully get a mutated male. My base level is 258 so ideally I need a 260. Bred the shadowmanes too, didn't get any stats or mutations but man the male I popped looks fierce, he has a great color mix from his parents. Love it. We're also making some huge boss progress, E negotiated for temporary custody of an asc rex saddle bp so now him and M are flailing around trying to gather resources to make as many saddles as possible. They underestimated how many mats it takes lol. Since I had to do a meat run anyway I took Glitch out and collected up some hide too. I could take a bred mane but she has the highest melee of them all atm and well, she's Glitch. Grabbed a bunch of cake slices and started crafting up some chibis too. Got a chibi featherlight, which I kept for myself. Got a chibi glowtail, which I put in M's box cause he loves them. Nothing else interesting. Really want a chibi phoenix, that would be amazing. Mostly we're waiting on metal to make these saddles up so not much else doing. We have the bp for a few days so hopefully we can make enough. I'm definitely going to need to make a breeding base, there just isn't enough room here. The castle's breeding area is only 11 tiles long by 6 wide. So, my original plan was to build a "Shadowmane Emporium" for the breeding and selling of 'manes on this cluster. But it seems like I'm going to have to scale up since no one else seems to have the patience to build the bloodlines. I had to walk E through his gigas last night and show him which ones to breed and he still got halfway (one lucky egg today apparently) and gave up lol. M apparently wants maewings but I've only just started that line and still on the taming stage since I've been mostly focusing on getting the sabers re-bred. Our birds are an absolute disaster right now too. Ugh. So much to do.
  25. Unofficial Cluser, The Island / Genesis 2 Very busy weekend, lots of taming and breeding and all that fun stuff. The end result, at least for me, is that we now have 4 Shadowmanes. We tamed a mate for Glitch and this time the taming went so much better. It was harder to get him in the box than anything lol. Bred immediately and got a baby girl that I claimed, she has our two breedable stats which is great. Bred her once she grew up and M claimed the second baby, also a girl with both stats. We got a male yuty and bred 2 of those as well. Got some owls and thylas going. Breeding up extra owls to go in the communal bird box since we do seem to lose birds on the regular. And good news, I'm almost done with the saber line...again. Ugh. I'm never breeding these things again lol. Such a trial this is for so little comparative reward. E got the tek rexes he's been coveting so we're now replacing our rexes with the new tek line. He's really pushing for the bosses, I think it's too early. Tentative goal is a week from Tuesday. Still so much to do, can't fathom being ready that early but worst case we all die I guess lol. All in all a little frustrating from continuing server issues due to constant mod updates, but successful overall. I feel like I dragged M around with me all weekend though lol. Still thinking about something I can do for him. I know he really wants a Bloodstalker so I need to get some Moschops going, got a high HP female already just need to tame up a male. So yeah, I guess I'm unofficially the official tribe breeder. No one has done as much of it as I have and honestly I do like breeding a lot. I just feel a bit held back by our lack of good tames. E is managing the gigas and rexes at least but aside from that there is very little coherency here. Basically I hate that every time as a tribe collectively we need something, we just don't have it. I've been trying to get ahead of it a bit but it's hard to manage. This base is way too small for 7 people. E says this is supposed to be the hub, but it's barely big enough to be a solo base. I'm debating moving to Rag or waiting to see if Crystal Isles is going to be added like the owner has strongly hinted it will be the next map on this cluster. Because I have plans. Big plans.
