Big Chitin. I love this, thank you for the laugh. I basically wade through thorny dragons near my base and keratin still isn't as abundant as I'd like.

I'll try the link when I get back home. My old i7 3770 used to be fairly proficient at it's job, but that was a while ago. My 970 should still be okay. My ancient 1tb hdd and the 4g factory ram have been silently screaming for upgrades for years, though. I hope the settings ease up some of the castle lag when i'm out running around.

Your CPU is fine, it's much more your RAM, GPU and hard drive speed for Ark. 16gb and an SSD will work wonders for it, and a 1060 or better will take it the rest of the way. I used to have an old Alienware with an i7 3770, 16gb, GTX 780, SSD, Ark ran fine except needed a faster video card (780 was about equal to your current one).

Downgraded to a low-level i5, 8gb, GTX1060 and 500gb HD and could barely get on servers and it had big lag.

Re-upgraded to i5 4670, 16gb, GTX1060 and SSD, Ark runs far better than it ever did before even though the CPU is weaker. Could still use faster video card though, but the 1060 is ok for now.

Played around with the ini coding and got owls, gacha, Griffin, featherlight, shinehorns and velos to spawn on Valguero. Just need to tweak it so Managarmr will too

There's a mod for that by the map maker- Map Extension for Valguero. I haven't yet searched well enough to find the owls, featherlights, manas or velos, but I can confirm the others are there.

This leads me to believe that the vanishing dinos may be doing the same thing as what was going on with Abberation, getting randomly moved to 50/50,  sense I've lost 3 anky 1 ptera and 2 wyvern to them just 'vanishing' Next time this happens im heading off to 50/50 and looking for my dino, both in the sky and down in the ocean, I've already crafted myself several scuba sets.

Part of the problem with this is - we are not getting death notices for dino's in the tribe log 1/2 the time, so its hard to tell if your dino is just missing or if it is in fact dead.

Anyhow felt I should mention that for anyone else that has had problems with vanishing dino's on Valguero, perhaps it will help you recover your dino before its too late.

Build a big cage under that spot so they fall into the cage and are safe? I think it's possible on Valguero, whereas it's very difficult on Ab, 50/50 is red zone.

Players could get into my base by dropping from above, but they could not get out without tearing down a wall.  I guess they could get in and out with a flyer.  Only foundations "in the open" have disappeared (and the things on the foundations).  Various storage boxes and things that are sitting on the ground were all untouched with all of the contents intact.  A separate complete "cube" house a short distance from my main base also remained intact.  I am thinking it is some sort of glitch about foundations with no attached walls or ceiling above them.  I will double-check my tribe log tonight (thanks for the suggestion).

Are they single foundations? I believe singles now auto-decay quickly, as a measure to try to cut down on foundation spam.

I just installed S+ mod, and wow I'm super impressed, auto open close door, electricity are ranged based, no more cables everywhere, and the demolish/pick up gun is super useful, even the lamp is auto depending on day or night time, it also has no stand and can be put on wall or ceiling.

I usually hate using mod and prefer vanilla because if I get too dependant on it I would miss it when playing online on official server, but since I'm going to stay Single Player for quite a long time, I'm trying a few mods and I'm converted, I think I can't play without mod now :D , it makes Ark more enjoyable and remove all the inconveniences.

The S+ on official server is too limited compared to this, it's about time to advance and implement all of its features. And some other mods are also very fun to have.

Did you know that you can use charge batteries with S+ stations, and there's a charge node station too? If it weren't for the elevator I wouldn't have a generator anymore.

3 X rex tames 2 X allo tames, 2 Tek paras not sure why either. I think I went a little nuts.. 2 X jerboa..

And then I spent hours grinding for building mats and saddle mats.

Went out looking for a unicorn. No unicorn.. am very sad. ?

On valguero? The green fields at the north end of the lake. Confirmed unicorn spawn, I got mine there and this last week, the Neebs Gaming crew got one on Youtube lol. (And then they put it on a t-shirt lolol).

I haven't asked for their help. There is nothing posted on the server rules about "Not stealing eggs from others" so I'm probably out of luck.  But I did post his user name on the cluster's dischord warning people about this scumbag..

Open chat, then Alt-PrtScrn for evidence. You can paste the pic right into Discord from there.

    Also, whatta d-bag.

But I just can't find any good rexes.

On TI? If so, I used to get all I wanted from the field southwest of the Green Obi, by the river. I put a base on the bluff by the river / pond with the big walkway up, made a behemoth-gate trap on the walkway and just pulled them up and closed the gate behind them. I would generally get a 140+ every session, after I had 6 I stopped collecting.

Bonus, there's an ovis spawn just south on the river bank and a quetzl path right over it.

So @AngrySaltire and i are planning our Val playthrough when it drops for console.. were trying to do something a little different to spice it up, as we did with Rag. We did no fliers at the start and before i grabbed any wyverns I had to steal eggs with a Pelagornis. Was fun and rewarding.

This time were thinking a true no fliers go. We kind of caved after a few weeks haha. Trying to get other cluster memebers on board but were asking for ideas from the thread. Weve done the whole 'no transfers' on Rag - lasted a few months actually. Was rewarding. Another server member is doing this and has thrown the idea of Primitive playthrough - but those cryopods are so nice so not entirely sure yet.

    Any ideas?

    No flyers except Archaeopteryx :D

    PS4 - The Island - Unofficial

So last Thursday night for fun, I jumped on a totally different unofficial server, and started out from scratch. This server has boosted drops, but not crazy boosted, and most of the stuff is for Abberation, even though this The Island map. It also has a good mix of dinos from all maps.

So I played about 4 hours that night, and managed to make a small stone base, and tame up a couple Griffins and a few Pteras and Moschops.

One of the last things I did was make a fabricator. I then spent my last time doing resource runs.

So on Saturday morning, I log back onto the server, and I immediately jump on a Griffin, and hit drops and grab resources for a full hour. (The Weight stat for humans and dinos is the only boosted stat, so basically unlimited weight)

So I finally get back to my base, and upon entering it, I start to load my resources into the fabricator. I notice that it is empty.  Hmm that's odd, but maybe I never put anything in it on Thursday.  Then I I check my Smithy, which I know had resources in it.  EMPTY. Every unlockable item in my base was empty. Except for a note from someone saying "Get Raided".

This was a stone foundation, stone wall, and stone roof base. only 2 doors, and both were closed and pin coded.  This is a PvE server.

Sooo how does someone get in and steal everything and get out again?   I've never seen this before, and the only thing I can think of is the windows. They somehow got in thru the tiny holes in the stone window walls.  But I didn't think that was possible.

I then spoke to another player that I had befriended on Thursday night, and he said the same thing happened to his base, but his is all metal, and without any windows.

At this point I believe it must have been some hack to get the thief thru walls.  Needless to say, I quit the server.  No point in continuing if I can't protect my resources.

Tell the server admin and show them the evidence. You don't have to stay on the server but the other server ppl deserve the warning.

You can get clipped through walls, esp. windows in a number of ways. Climbing picks are known to let you pop through windows and walls at corners, YT has videos showing you how. Picking someone up with a dino lets you push them through things (mesh biting). Monkeys can even be thrown through windows to unlock doors, but that's for PvP use, not sure if it works in PVE

So basically it still isn't very stable lol. It's a running joke that Microsoft only produces a decent OS every other version. XP was great, 7 is very nice, Vista only worked on beefy machines, 8/Metro was utter trash, and 10 is still unstable? Sounds about right.

Win10 is working surprisingly well for me, esp. for Ark and gamez. I did have to download Windows Update Blocker so they can't force updates on me. That settled all stability issues, I prefer to let others test MS's patches for awhile :)

Side note, the compact.exe with Win10 is a gem. It crunches apps by 40% and there's zero impact to Ark's gameplay that I can see. It does take a few more seconds to load the client, but nothing else I've noticed. (this is on an SSD so YMMV).

They would be banned so fast on our server.. what the actual bleep....Why would someone do that lol

I once saw a PvE player on a dozen-person server attempt to claim Viking Bay as a base. The WHOLE bay area, with foundations and signs and everything.

It's a newbie spawn and everything. Some friggin people.

I know that there are admin commands and such to tweak stacknsize but for official, given the meager boosts stat points give, could you even carry 500 wood or iron ore?

As an unofficial server operator, I can honestly say that stack size increases help a lot. Even if you can't move with the weight, it's helpful when transferring from dino to storage. And the handling of all of the light things like fiber, thatch, chitin, hide is much improved.

Also, high-qual items can require more cap than an official workstation can hold, making you wait until you have a tek replicator or forcing you to work around with a high-weight argy.  Generally it's the light items like hide and fiber that push the limit, so increasing stack for those items is very helpful for avoiding the slot-cap problem on workstations.

Can someone tell me where to find tapejaras on the island I've been searching around the middle island but found nothing

Edit: single player, Nintendo switch (I hate my life ) that means no mods

I tamed my first one in the swamps near the Green Obi. If you head from the obi down southeast, there's at least one that spawns in the jungle there, I've seen it many times on the south edge of the trees near the cove.

Actually, you could just check this - https://ark.gamepedia.com/Spawn_Map_(The_Island)

Just double check in case :) As d1nk says it might not be the case.

I checked on the Server Manager's discord, DelilahEve confirmed that you need to be in a cluster to transfer with inventory. Otherwise you have to use Ark Data.

....now I wish I'd clustered my three local servers lol. Bad server manager! Bad! hehe

Yep. Just load up your inventory and transfer your character :) I cant stand sitting there uploading items one by one. Might be worth double checking on respective clusters to make sure it does work, various settings might not allow it.

Ah sorry i was meaning stick all the stuff in a vault so that I would know what to transfer.

Hhmmm not sure about that one.

^^ might be the answer, my local servers are not clustered. I'll go look it up. Thanks for the info! (I now return the thread to its regularly scheduled discussions :) )

  17. 16 hours ago, AngrySaltire said:

Basically instead of sitting there inserting the items you want to move server one by one, you just load up your inventory and transfer your character to another server. Saves alot of time. D1nk has different characters per server I just have the one so I can hop between servers.

You mentioned him vaulting stuff though, so that's what confused me - how the vaulted items would get transferred?

Related, does it take a special configuration to not have your inventory destroyed on transfer? I remember having to put everything in Ark Data first.

    Thanks for your help!

    Ragnarok PVE

spent around 2 hours trying to find and tame an otter with no luck, jumped around 4 servers asking if anyone sells but none available.

Thought I'd try the trade forums but sadly I can't post there yet.

Also hatched triplet 552 abberation ankys from an egg, got there just in time to pick them up. One i saved with about 15hp left.

also raising 3 rexes and 4 thylas while farming some dust from gachas,- really quite useful to have all that in the same room.

Try the ponds near the jungle cave, I routinely find them there. Also the Viking Bay cave often has 1 or 2.

got my industrial forge, and OMG, they're SO much better then just a regular refining forge like i have been using. threw in about 5000-6000 raw metal, and some oil and hide, so the forge is already half way to paying off its cost in metal

Yeah we really, really need a mid-level forge upgrade (and stove, and cookpot). I put in the Miniforge mod and it's an excellent step (really perfect for solo player, no need for an indy), but it's not updated for scrap metal yet so I still have to keep a basic forge for that.

  20. Don't support the vaulting idea, but continual TLC for dinos is a full YES.

But, in somewhat of a different TLC way. The biggest reason old dinos are old is that dino abilities were developed in conjunction with new dinos. Ark's development was all about the new dino on the block, so of course the others got left behind.

But it's completely possible to backport appropriate abilities to older dinos, and I think that should be the focus of the next TLC efforts. Instead of trying to make an older dino the new hotness, build the fundamental fun factor of the game by increasing player access to special abilities through older dino TLCs. Pick a special ability, identify the dinos you'd reasonably expect to be able to do it, and apply it everywhere feasible.

For examples of increasing fun directly by this concept, who does NOT want to see predators able to pick up smaller prey in their mouths a la Megalosaurus? That's a great example of something you'd reasonably expect all predators to be able to do, but it was only built as a "special ability" of the Megalosaurus. So it's a perfect candidate for this kind of TLC. Top candidates - every therapod predator, all large ocean predators (and every predator with respect to dodos. Dodo life sucks lol.)

For an example of removing pain and frustration, the Morellatops gets a trotting movement which helps it get around at a reasonable speed. You could remove a significant amount of the "not-fun" feeling of the PVE gameplay by backporting this ability to every slow dino as their "sprint" (and probably lowering the stam drain a bit). This would help everyone get slow dinos around the map just a bit faster, easing the annoyance and boredom of using those dinos. (Plus it would make the sprinting a lot better looking. Just saying that increasing the walk speed doesn't really look like running yo.) For bonus realism, you could make this only work well on level ground, and keep the current sprinting movement for up slopes.
Top candidates would be harvesters like the anky, doed, casto and stego, early haulers like the paracer and early combat tames like the trike.

I think this model for TLC will upgrade the general variety and fun of the game a lot. And you've already got all of the assets in hand, so there's that.

TL;DR don't TLC individual dinos to try to make the new hotness anymore. Instead, take the abilities developed for new dinos in the past and use them to upgrade as many of the older dinos as you can. This will make older dinos more fun to use, raising the gameplay variety and fun factor across big sections of the game quickly.

Hey Wildcard, i have an Off-topic idea, i hope you would consider: Conan Exiles have just been this months PS+ offer, so i checked it out and i found a genius little detail i hope you would consider implementing in ark.

When you go to the online part of the game, you Can Choose what kind of community you want to be a part of. It is only for dedicated servers, but if you could implement in on all official servers i would really want to be part of “Ark Online” again.

    Why should that be implementet:

Because it is a little bit frustating to not be a hardcore player, i love the game and i have completed it, but i still dont have the same blood Lust as some of the other players do. Im not saying that it is wrong to be blood thirsty, but if i wanted to kill people Every second i could just play a Rockstar Game instead.

I have never had the oppotunity to move around in some of the many Pve servers, i have wanted to join. The only kind of Pve servers i have joined, where filled with buildings i wouldnt even Build in creative, so where would the place for my Home be ?

I used to play on the “offlineraidprotection” servers and i really loved the community because the chat was active and you wouldnt just beat every person running around in Their underpants. A mega Tribe changed the playing rules at some point, and started scamming good hearted players, So my interest quickly fainted. My friends then told me about the “smalltribeservers” and i tried joining.

I have never seen so much chaos, when we joined i couldnt even leave viking Bay without getting beat to death the first 5 times and that is Allright, but it is NOT for me.

My love for Ark came because of the oppotunities, there were when the game still was new.

I loved the thought about teaming up with others, to try and survive and maybe building a cool community. I still want pvp, but since im neither paranoid or want to watch the World burn, i just only want to fight people “i dont agree with”.

i Think it would be kinda hard to implement an “declare war” option, where you need to wait, lets say 12 Hours to whipe another tribe, or something.  Thats why i Think it would be cool to choose between communities online, because then there would be something for every one.

I know this community is know  for their “Git Gut” mentality, but it is kinda hard to “git gut” when people are so paranoid that they fear your Thatch hut so much they need to raid it ?

i miss the old days of ark, where you would look at other People’s tribe and tame names and just laugh because you Saw other People’s creativity. I Also miss the days, where you could see special bases, all the alphas Allmost use the same formula for setting up a base, because some youtuber told Them, that this is the Best construction.

i know a lot of hardcores dont agree, but it Will never be easy to make every one happy so lets just have a lot to choose between.

Consensual PvP is the norm for large open-world environments, with exceptions for worlds where it's all about PvP (Planetside for example). I keep thinking "why didn't WC just do Tribe Wars as the "Official" PvP mode and leave 24/7 PvP for event / unofficial servers?".  That would guarantee everyone can do what they want as much as they want, with the people who want the same.

As they have things with PvP now, the smallest number of people will be happy and the largest number unhappy, and that's the opposite of how you pursue success as a business.
