Community Crunch 101 & ARK Digest 48: Introducing the Phoenix!
ciabattaroll replied to Jen's topic in Announcements
Should be some time Wednesday. -
It's very much a rumor because Studio Wildcard are merely consulting for ARK Park. It's as much "their game" as Dark and Light is, which is to say, not their game at all.
-
Pretty much this. The state as it is now is no different from their initial (technically second) stance where the plan was to repurpose underperforming servers.

ARK Two Year Anniversary & Community Crunch 94!
ciabattaroll replied to Jatheish's topic in Announcements
The flyer nerf is technically an easier thing as they have an idea on which parameters of the game they want to adjust. Which lines of code to change so to say. With this they have to figure out what's going on as it's not something that's affecting the playerbase in a consistent manner (for example, all my aquatic mounts are just fine), figure out which part of their recent update is causing this error, and then applying a fix for it. -
ARK Two Year Anniversary & Community Crunch 94!

All event items, as usual, have their recipes in the cooking pot (save for halloween decor that's crafted in the smithy). -
Digest 42 (of 45) was the last time they were separate threads. That hardly points to them "always being together".
-
Actually, the digest has always been a digest and the community crunch has always been the community crunch. There are times where both are featured in one announcement, but those are more exceptions than rule.

I'm gonna have to disagree with this. It's my belief that the point of playing a video game is to have fun, and that fun is a very subjective term so what may be fun for one person may not be to another. I mean, if we're to take your philosophy then you're saying that Fromsoftware's Souls series aren't video games, as those almost constantly hammer how underpowered you are compared to the horrors you face. As for the dino limitations, that is something I agree with. The concept is good in that it aims to prevent lag by curtailing how many dinos a tribe has. However, it is quite easily sidestepped due to the fact that there are no limitations on how many tribes can be on a server at a given time. I've already seen bigger "zoo" tribes make use of this flaw by having a member splinter off to make an ally tribe and the original tribe they came from would unclaim dinos for him/her to grab in order to relieve the cap their tribe has.

There's already precedent that this is a flawed system though. I mean, as much as I hate bringing politics into this, placing faith in polls is what gave us Truman as president despite "conventional wisdom and polls" pointed to an "inevitable" Dewey presidency. It wasn't even the same thing as what we have now where Trump won the electoral but lost the popular, Truman won both ends in spite of these assumed representations of the entire population saying otherwise.

What he meant by being chosen is if it's a mod that's selected to be adapted into the list of official mods. Think of it this way, if this were Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, chosen mods would be the kids holding the golden ticket. That doesn't necessarily mean they're all Charlie.

That's exactly my point, it's an assumption. A guess at best that is about as accurate as Wildcard's ETAs. Simply put, saying "the silent majority don't mind" or "the silent majority are upset too!" or "the silent majority wanted this!" is a poor argument for a cause because they cannot be quantified due to not making their thoughts known.
-
Actually, you're both wrong. While it's true that there are even more people that are/aren't upset who aren't posting, the fact that they do not make their voices heard makes it hard if not impossible to properly dictate how the whole community feels. While it's true that forums represent only a fraction of the population, this in no way shape or form means that the division of opinions within the forum community is directly proportional to the entirety of the populace.

I'd have to say it's more likely for new players to get ahead than veteran players, to an extent. New players never had the experience of flying pre-256, so any and all adaptations they do to things you say like bases of turrets, making trade routes, etc. are all a bonus to them simply because they aren't tethered by the notion of looking back at days gone by. Veteran players, particularly those stuck in their ways, can and do continuously lament the change and endlessly go on about things "back in my day" rather than looking at what's at hand and improvising to make the best of it.

Wildcard's already taken these steps when they hired both Cedric and Evilmrfrank. This is just an alternate route to this philosophy as Wildcard realizes that a good amount of modders are hobbyists who most likely can't or won't just drop their current means of living to work full time for them.

The emote and hairstyles are all per character. Each character you have on each server will have to create and consume the items to unlock them, and if you for some reason delete a character that's unlocked them by creating a new character on that server, then you'll have to create and consume the items for that character as well.

Baby hunger is also reduced. allowing for a savings on resources.

There is a thread for you to post questions for the digest.
