    They still haven't fixed this?  Wow, that'd be one of the first things I'd fix as it sucks in ASE to have this, including players where you spawn in and are stuck in foundations and have to either destroy the foundation or keep trying to rejoin without being stuck.

  2. Structure Stasis Changes

    We've made some changes with a focus on improving performance. This reworks how structures are loaded/unloaded on the server. The simple idea is that fewer calculations take place at a given time with the new system so the server doesn't have to do as much. Something to note is that the performance gains are more noticeable when more active structures are present (so think really busy, large bases) and an increased number of players on a server. 

    The structures are now broken up into a grid, when a player logs in they are assigned grid cells appropriate to their location, and the structures in those cells are loaded. That way not all are loaded. 

    This setting is enabled by default on Official Servers, and Unofficials can now opt-into using the new system too by setting the following server parameter in their commandline:

    -UseStructureStasisGrid

    This will work on both PC and Console, but we highly recommend that it is not used on servers with mods, as there are some assumptions made about structures in stasis and this could cause issues with modded content, however in a future devkit update, you'll be able to opt said structures out of the system to avoid the issues.

    TLDR: Predominantly busy servers with a lot of players and big bases will be seeing the most significant performance gains.

     

     

    Anyone get this new Stasis change to work on Xbox/Win10 Nitrado servers?  If so what version is your server on?

    EDIT:  Ok, chatted with someone at WC.  Turns out that Nitrado needs to add the setting/option for this to work.  We're asking Nitrado to add it now.

    The thing is the server is there if you search for it on the main server list, however if your on the cluster for example if i log onto aberration where my character is atm, then access the tek terminal then ragnarok isn't on the list, so atm I'm stuck on aberration and can't get back to my main base on ragnarok.. but its not just ragnarok thats not showing up, extinction, valguero and others aren't either 

    It looks like that form allows you to report server information that's more than just it being down in the main server list.  I see items for transfers and also a text field where you can enter what you said.  I'd enter it there as I know they do look at that data for sure, just not sure about whether they're doing it over a holiday weekend.

    Wild card please, out servers are disappearing, we went to aberration for a metal run, but now we can't get back to Ragnarok as its disappeared from the transfer list. In fact there's only 3 servers showing up crystal, island and centre.. this is on official offline protection cluster 6 

    No idea if they're working on any right now but did you report which server is down here?

    I swore they had an official list of down servers somewhere but I couldn't find it.

  5. @Jatheish can we fix fence foundations snapping?  Also fix the timer for cables and related components to something longer than wood timers?  That and up the timers for the oil pumps?  Or in the very least allow private servers to adjust those settings without having to adjust all the other things to be too long?  A couple of days for the oil pumps and not very many for the electric components is too short for us casual players.  LOL  That and I leave the oil pump unlocked for others to use but keep having to go to it to make sure it doesn't decay.  :/

    Are you sure you cryofridge had power?  If you are away for a while always be sure you have them powered before you access them otherwise dinos will die in them.  It calculates whether it had power the time while you were away at the instance you access it.  Not saying this is the case as there could be a new bug that I haven't seen yet but this has been the most common issue I've seen for folks.  :(

    Can you chat at all about the fixes made for recent perf/stalls?  I have noticed some improvement when joining out server, used to timeout very often and require multiple rejoins in order to play.  But wondered if that was mere coincidence.  That and it seemed like some of the stalls when rendering in bases are better, mostly noticed it around greenhouse parts where it would stall every time when loading in someone's greenhouse.

    EDIT: Logged into extinction, looked around, went back to my shack so I could grab a bite and when exiting to main I got booted to xb home screen. I was able to leave Ragnarok and go to Extinction without trouble. Unsure if this is helpful at all. I rock a XB1X and this is obviously after today’s download. Hope you can find some relief soon. 

    Just so I'm clear, you're also seeing a crash after going to the main menu when exiting while on Extinction using an XB1X?  FWIW I'm seeing that as well.

    I have no idea if it's related, but also on our nitrado cluster my character has gotten duped 2 out of the 10 or so times I've transferred between extinction and valguero on our cluster.  :(

    Related to typos, given that WC "Arked" a few folks with the build changes I found the patch notes refreshingly correct.  ?  Pretty sure they also meant to say "genesis nightmare"  ;D

    Interesting, wondering if that happens when you're pushed under the map when grabbed by an enemy flyer or even a team mate when doing metal runs on an Anky carried by a quetz or something similar.  Hope they tested those out.

    Ah, I do see that the official store sources for where to buy it state January 2020.

    Seems that is likely not helping with the customers who bought this, given WCs past record I doubt they're going to hit January 2020 otherwise the hype train would be in full swing by now. 

    Probably would be a good idea to update those stores with the right information to something more realistic.

    For those without any sort of time keeping device - today is 1/21.  The currently published release date is 1/31.  Keep saying it's late or there is no release date...

  13. On consoles the tether makes playing on someone else's world not very fun as you need to be very close to them otherwise you get "teleported" to places you don't want to go.

    Ok, I know that this will likely not work as well on the older Xbox, but definitely seems doable on the Xbox One X or Playstation Pro.  That and I know that this tether was accidently removed at one point and it did indeed work for them, it was quickly added back once that it was found out by the devs that the tether was no longer there.

    In the very least allow console players to set the distance to see how playable it is, and if it doesn't work then they can change it to a playable distance.

    • Added [ServerSettings] ItemStackSizeMultiplier to allow increasing or decreasing item stack size

    Looks like consoles only got PC version 291.100 instead of the latest PC version of v292.100 that has that feature.  Also not sure which options they make available in the UI for server settings.  Might only be an option if you pay for a dedicated server.  :(

As someone who did a great many years (20+) of software testing for a major software company I strongly disagree you cannot do better with that many people or other methods of software testing.  You definitely need to hire some SDET level folks to automate and get some basic regression testing done that'd catch a lot of things sooner and help remove the many hours needed for someone to manually playtest all the things.  Automation definitely won't catch all of the issues but it'd definitely give your testers more time to play and find those bugs only found during play testing.

    That and give your players a better method of reporting issues and getting feedback on those issues.  Heck if you're going to rely on the folks who bought and paid for your game then listen to them.

    I've given this same info before and other software testing advice in the past so I'm certain this will be just as ignored by anyone on the management team who makes the decisions on where to put the effort.

    What makes me more sad is I came back here after MANY months of not playing just to see what is happening and to see if I might have an interest in playing again and I see the same nonsense spouted off here again about how you cannot test better.

    EDIT:  And just to clarify, I know for certain that the devs care and the software testers care, I've chatted with several of them so I know they care.  Where the disconnect comes from is very likely management who's deciding what is important and this is one area that they've put low on the list as per what the dev said and what could be done here to resolve this.
