  1. I joined forums about a week ago, but realized I should actually make an intro lmao. Hi, I go by Val! I'm very, very new to ARK. I'd actually bought the game in 2016 not long after it came out, but I literally just didn't have a good enough PC to run it at the time. Many years later, I have a much better PC now and had recently upgraded my GPU, and one day I thought, heck, why not try out ARK. Oh how I had no idea what wonderful things were in store for me. I've been playing for the past two weeks and I am HOOKED. I took some days off work when I first started because I just couldn't stop playing, and even then I'm still hopping on every day after work, and on my days off. I play on a small private non-dedicated server on the Island with only my husband and I. We're both level 70-ish and have experienced most of the terrors of early- to mid-game, the terrors of the swamp, of the Redwoods, getting ambushed by Thylas for the first time, the horrible first-time experience of catching Swamp Fever and unwittingly spreading it amongst us. We've tamed our first Rexes, our first Tapejaras, our first Quetzals. For reasons I can't quite place, this game just has such a fun appeal about it. I've even gotten into watching ARK Youtubers and their videos whenever I'm not able to play. I'm so hooked. I love discovering all the new creatures, and finding all the new ways to tame them. I think what is so appealing about this game to me is the taming mechanics, it's just so much fun once you get the hang of things, and upgrading your mounts to find the most powerful one. There's always so much to do, and so much to learn! I often find myself thinking that there is just so much to discover about this game, that I feel I still have many, many, many days of fun ahead of me, despite putting 100+ hours into it already. I almost feel like I sort of missed out on the hype, but I'm enjoying myself now! This is the best video game experience I've had in a very long while. I feel like a kid again, getting all excited over dinos. What are some tricks that you wish you knew when you were new? :3
