  1. Some really good points here. And on top of that - even PvE combat was not left click spam. There was heaps more involved with PvE combat - like positioning (dinosaurs can easily kill you so you need to out position them), some dinosaurs had special abilities (spit, poison, ambush etc) that you needed to counter - which would impact your strategy / how you approach a situation / what weapons you use. You would need to go into dangerous environments in order to get certain resources (caves for example), which would severely impact how much room you had to move / introduce new threats (such as cliffs) that would make the combat more complex again. Really the only “left click spam” in the game was if you were riding a dinosaur and killing other dinosaurs - oh and how surprising, adding changes to this (which again I’m indifferent to this but I wouldn’t mind if players wanted changes to the dinosaur vs dinosaur combat), this yet again has nothing to do with Third Person / First Person being a requirement of the game.
  2. It’s been said a million times - you don’t need to make the game “Third Person Only” to update the combat within Ark. So please stop saying crap like “but the combat was left click spam” - because that literally has nothing to do with the game including First Person or not. And Third Person Only is NOT a requirement of a combat system. Wildcard can improve the combat system without removing First Person from the game, Dying Light is a perfect example of a combat (and movement) system which works in First Person. And I really don’t want to hear another “but modders will add First Person back in so everything will be great” - because this won’t solve the issues, for the simple reason that if the game is being designed with a “Third Person Only” focus, it will lead to design decisions which will causes issues in first person mode. For example - if you modded Syrim to suddenly become First Person, the game would not only have issues, but would have a completely different experience then if the game had been intended for First Person.
  3. Yes, because First Person adds more fun to the game then a new combat system that forces 3rd person. I would say they should only implement a new combat system if they retain First Person - they can use Dying Light for inspiration if they want. And these people who are trying to say a game sequel means the core of the game should change are clearly not very familiar with the gaming industry. Literally 90%+ of games that release a sequel don’t change the core of the game - they add a new story, characters, graphics, weapons, features, fixes etc. That’s literally the standard (Halo, COD, Diablo, Fifa, Kingdom of Hearts, I could literally go on forever). So please stop trying to act like a game sequel is meant to radically change the core of a game like flipping from First Person to Third Person. That’s an entirely new game, not a sequel.
  4. The point of a sequel isn’t to radically change the core of the game. MORE of what we are used to is exactly what people want in the sequel. The point of a sequel is to add new things without changing the core of the game - look at almost any other game franchise. Lets use Halo as an example. For the most part, Ark players just wanted things like bug fixes, better graphics, new maps, improved dinosaur AI, new tools, new threats, new crafting, new dinosaurs etc. The game would not be a “copy paste”, but the game would feel the same with some new additions. As an example - in Halo infinite they added the grapple mechanic. It also features new enemies / weapons / better graphics. I guarantee you if Halo infinite decided to suddenly go Third Person Only you would see their players become absolutely hysterical.
  5. Adding a combat system is fine - I’m indifferent to whether a new combat system is added or not. But definitely not at the cost of First Person. First Person is a critical component to what makes the game fun because it adds immersion / intensity / keeps you on your toes. So if they want to add a new combat system they can do so without removing First Person from the game - Dying Light is a perfect example of a game that has a combat system / movement system whilst retaining First Person
  6. And to add to this mans point - mods are NOT going to magically fix the issue. The reason is because deciding to neglect First Person from the core of the game will cause design / mechanics decisions that will not be magically fixed by changing the camera. Whereas if they include First Person within the core of the game - they are developing the game with the First Person experience included within their considerations. And as a side note - there are plenty of combat systems which are extremely successful and First Person based, Dying Light is a perfect example (which showcases better movement as well). So no, trying to force Third Person Only was definitely not something that was critical for a combat system, and removing the immersion from the experience will be a far greater negative.
  7. Please for the love of your player base - add First Person as a standard feature in Ark 2. This decision is extremely important because the decision to include / exclude First Person will obviously cause repercussions in terms of the game design / mechanics. So I don’t think it will be a simple case of “a modder can adding First Person back into the game” solving the issues that will come with making the base game Third Person Only. First Person was such a fundamental component of what made the first Ark so successful. If you’re asking why? It’s what made the game immersive, intense, scary, made shooting bows / crossbows / guns so fun plus much more (exploring caves / going on adventures and being kept on your toes). Feeling like you’re walking in the shoes of your character and you’re always in danger - that is what made Ark so unique and made it so successful as a “survival” game. You simply cannot replicate that sort of experience in a Third Person Only game - the immersion is just not there. As someone who has easily spent 10K+ hours playing Ark, and who has played with a tonne of other serious players - I know that a lot of core players feel the same way. So I hope the executives reconsider this decision and look at how they can incorporate First Person into the game from the get go, so that we can ensure Ark 2 retains the immersion that was so amazing in the first one. And if the executives think this is only a “personal opinion” - I would highly encourage them to reach out to the community and ask them, because I have both played with and spoken to a tonne of Ark players over the years and I can guarantee there are a mountain of players who feel the same way. I’m really surprised that the executives didn’t realise how much the First Person experience added to the first game and the survival experience as a whole, because I feel like if they had they never would have considered Third Person Only as an option for Ark 2
