  1. Real Life Context The Platyhistrix 'Platyhistrix Rugosus' Is a small Temnospondyl that lived in the Permian 300mya, Temnospondyls were early amphibians and are related to beasts like Koolosuchas and Diplocaulus. It is primarily known for its unusual sail, similar to Dimetrodon or Spinosaurus although it is not closely related to either and its purpose is just as mysterious. Its back was covered by hard scute like plates but it has been identified as a true amphibian so may have been moist and smooth skinned like modern amphibians. In its hey-day it could be found throughout the USA in habitats similar to lush floodplains or marshlands which was crucial since like modern amphibians they are thought to be reproductively tied to the water and go through a tadpole metamorphosis phase like modern frogs and salamanders. Appearance Should the 'Platy' join the ARK ecosystem, it would resemble a small Dimetrodon with the body of a Lystrosaurus with a large frog-like head with big yellow eyes, a bright blue tongue splayed out clawless legs and a long salamander like body with a medium length yet stumpy tail (see image above) It also possess the iconic sail, unlike Dimetrodon it is taller in comparison to its flat body and resembles a bright sea shell. It would have 4 main color regions. It is a small creature, not big enough to ride probably a bit larger than a bulb dog (see image above) It could be small enough to be a shoulder pet but could just as easily work without being a shoulder pet. They would often be found naturally in bright colors similar to a poison dart frog. region 0: Stomach/shell lines region 1: Body region 2: Sail body region 3: Back spots/scutes region 4: N.A region 5: N.A Movement The Platy would move in a crawling salamander motion, swaying its body will it walks, it would be able to run but not efficiently, it would probably run as quick as a bulbdog if not quicker. It would be as quick in the water as on land, still able to get around at a decent speed but not quick enough to escape some water predators like Piranna's Sounds Sound designs, it wouldn't make much sound, maybe the sounds of bubbling or creatures gulping for air in a bit of a chirping medium to high pitch. Maybe some low grumbling included but nothing too grotesque. Behavior Platy is a low tear predator, and would eat meat just like any carnivore, In the wild It would be a passive predator similar to Dimetrodon, it would not attack other animals or survivors aside from its special features (SEE MORE INFO BELOW), instead It would be skittish similar to Mesopithicus. It would be an uncommon find, not rare but not as common as say a dodo, but to find one that hasn't been attacked by another creature is another endevour, they would be solitary and spawn alone but you could find 2 that have blundered into each-others range by pure chance. In Game Meta Stats Being a small creature, a survivor is not able to ride it, but it could be used as a shoulder pet. It would have generally low stats as shoulder pets do, low weight and health, but a dump stat would be for a Platy as designed in this post would be mainly stamina and oxygen despite being semi aquatic it would still need oxygen. In game meta, it would be a cute little utility tame, useful for all kinds of tribes, from low tear to alpha tribes. Breeding Like other amphibians like Beezlebufo and Diplocaulus, it would only reproduce in water, the eggs would have to stay underwater and the babies would hatch as tadpoles before becoming adults as they mature. Poisonous defense The Platy is designed to appear poisonous, with bright colors warding off 'potential predators' inspirations taken from Blue tongue lizards and Poison dart frogs. The mechanic built around its design involves its defense. When attacked or startled, it would release poison in a gaseous form, possibly similar to a lymantria or an Ammonite, I personally would akin the ability to a walking mushroom from Abberation, with the small portable spore-field inducing similar dizzy, health/oxygen draining and increased Torpor in tames and players. These could be deposited in areas like Lymantria for a short time or (I like more) form a protective bubble around the Platy as it flees from danger following it wherever it goes, this would make a startled platy potentially dangerous to any survivor or wild creature unprepared. Additionally, a creature biting a Platy or harvesting a dead Platy could induce this same sensation so dino's eating a Platy similar to getting hit with a Cnideria or something, so best beware, unless the player was protected by a hazard suit or gas mask, harvesting a dead Platy could be dangerous but would be rewarded with biotoxin, hard to get outside of Cnideria in the standard META. Taming Method The Platy would be a PASSIVE tame, but a challenging Passive tame, but still doable for even new ARK players. The taming food of a platy would be specific, something poisonous like bio toxin or organic polymer. Like any normal passive, you would feed it its taming food and wait until its hungry, but it would release its poisonous gas/spores even if its not startled. During the taming process and will not stop emitting these spores until either the taming bar is at 0% or when the taming process is completed. This needs to be mitigated with a gas mask or hazard protection suit giving use to the otherwise unused gas mask if you haven't learned the hazard suit engram from Aberration. Tamed Utility The Platy is undeniably a useful creature for all tribes, even the most powerful Alpha tribes would find Platy's useful. The Platy would first be able to release the poision on command at the cost of stamina, making stamina an important stat to boost. A tamed Platy would not be toxic to tames and ally survivors. However it would still induce the poisonous effect to other creatures and enemy survivors should it be startled or commanded to do so. If this was a shoulder pet, this combo could be devastating in pvp as you would become a walking sporefield as long as the staminia lasts, but easily prevented with protective gear like hazard suits or gas masks. in PVE if the torpor induce is powerful enough it could be used for KO-ing other tames or allowing for a getaway should you find yourself biting off more than you can chew, this makes it good for low to middle tear tribes at least combat wise, but still valuble in certain situation should higher tear survivors decide to use it, its basically a renewable poison grenade. Resources Harvesting them and taming them are both ideal for a survivor, obviously getting past its poison defense, harvesting a Platy would provide Biotoxin along with some hide and meat, Biotoxin otherwise is hard to come by aside from harvesting from Cnideria, making them a good source of Bio-toxin for players not as confident in the seas or in a location where Cnideria don't spawn very often. It also creates the dilemma of obtaining the bio toxin to tame it, (break a few eggs to make an omelet situation lol) Mutating Toxin The most important part of the Platy (its MAIN STAT and should really be considered if bringing it in) is the mutation factor. Having a Platy around for breeding its a GAME CHANGER especially for console players like myself who are unable to get MOD's that add items like the TEK mutator. To put it simply, if a tamed Platy is in range of creatures during the breeding process (2 creatures mating before gestation starts), it can pretty much double the likelihood of random mutation. This could take the form of a buff similar to the Oviraptor and would only be applied if the Tamed Platy was releasing its poison (again at the cost of staminia) in range. This utility makes it valuable to all tribes basic or alpha that are trying to breed the best creatures possible in their arsenal. Im no developer but this would really be a useful stat and save some really frustrating time trying to breed dinos with mutations for days on end. Possible Uses - Its got these big dumb eyes, big smile, and a cute lil blue tongue DILO wouldn't you want one around. YES they would probably be able to wear hats - Biotoxin farm - its a good way to get Bio-toxin without venturing into the oceans, although Biotoxin is still best harvested from Cnideria - PVP, they are walking spore fields, and poison grenades to creatures and enemy players if they are unprepared for them it could be a deadly combo for 1v1 PVP or when raiding a base, putting unprepared foes at a massive disadvantage, they are also a challenge in the wild to change, making them difficult to tame, but not too difficult since they are easily countered by obtaining Hazard gear, a gas mask, or if a player with no gear just runs in sacrificing their stats, hopefully re-spawning before it gets too far away - Breeding, these would be a game changer in regards to breeding random mutations at least in the current meta WITHOUT MODS, which is hard enough as it is. It would really benefit players of all types, those just starting out, experienced players trying to get the best mutations on their tames, or people just wanting dinosaurs with insane color variations. Having one of these guys around would really save a player trouble. - Adding variation - another amphibian in the game would be interesting (I say as a lover of Beezlebufo and Diplocaulus) the breeding mechanics and mechanics I suggested above would make for a very interesting creature indeed.   2. Real life Context (Edmontosaurus Annectens) A medium to large species of hadrasaur, related to Ornithipod dinosaurs like Iguanadon or Parasaurolophus. It lived during the late Cretaceous period, it was a herbivorous dinosaur noted for lacking the hollow crest common to its genus such as in Parasaurolophus, instead some individuals support a small boney crest that could be evidence of sexual dimorphism. It is also a large species of Hadrosaur, averaging around 8m long on average and estimated to way 4 tonnes when alive, although some size kings have been found in excess of 12m. During its heyday, it could be found all across North America to as recently as 66MYO but evidence suggests that the species was quite migratory, some have even been found in northern Alaskan climates thought previously too cold for reptilian species like dinosaurs especially herbivorous dinosaurs to thrive in. Behaviourly, they are thought to live in small-medium herd-like groups, and would be by nature, grazers but could survive off low nutrient vegetation like ferns and horsetails, so they were most likely slow going, but should a predator approach, they are thought to be faculativly bipedal able to gallop on 2 legs but would be on all 4 when they grazed or moved slowly. it sat low to middle on the food chain, and was a common victim of larger therapods like Yutyrannus, Albertosaurus and even the iconic Tyrant king (tyrannasaurus), with one specimen found baring the marks of a tyrannosaurs bite. Design (in game) Appearance Should Edmontosaurus join the ARK, it would probably resemble a large hadrasaur (see images below) supporting a rounded bill and a long narrow skull and small eyes, it would most likely appear like a larger version of an Iguanadon but built more 'tank' like, (they would be a bit chonky) It would probably be around the size range of a Stego but would support a taller and leaner stature. Pattern wise, most interpretations take them as having blotches on top near their spines with the lighter underside forming into stripes along the tail. Potentially, if added to the ARK, Edmontosaurus could be a sexually dimorphic dinosaur, with males supporting a bump or small vivid colored crest on the top of their heads in contrast to the females which would lack this bump but could just as easily be designed without this feature Movement Edmontosaurus would be a nimble dinosaur, at least for its size, intended to balance both size and speed being something that could traverse a distance at a reasonable speed good for getting around a large map but maybe not as quick as a Gallimimus or iguanadon, especially compared to other herbivores like stegosaurus or even parasaurs, In the water it would move slower, but probably not as slow as you would expect at least being able to move quick enough to escape slow moving megalodons but maybe not piranna's. Potentially, the mechanics for Edmontosaurus could see the animal traversing on all 4s in a walk and 2 legs in running mode, similar to the iguanadon but without switching buffs. A cool idea would be for Edmontosaurus to start on all 4s and as it builds speed like a Woolly Rhino or Direbear it could transition to 2 legs until it reaches a max running speed just to make the take off for the dinosaur an interesting endeavor. Food or being Food Edmontosaurus would be targeted by the common assortment of predators most predators in the size range of Giga, T-rex, Allosaur, Carno, Direwolf, Daodon, Dilo, raptor and many more would attack Edmontosaurus, if it preys on a Stego it would prey on Edmontosaurus. Edmontosaurus is a herbivore happy to eat berries to vegetables, it would receive the benefits of sweet vegetable cake, but also the healing debuffs associated with normal herbivores. Upon death Edmontosaurus would be a decent source of hide and meat and would provide a small amount of prime meat, but Edmontosaurus does not provide any special/rare loot or drops. Stats Edmontosaurus would be kitted out to be an early to mid-game tame, combining the stats of early game tames to make your life as a survivor on this new map FJORDUR easier. It is intended to be a generally all rounded creature, but would probably possess a good amount of stamina and weight capacity for those long journeys early to mid game, it would also have good health and good speed at least for its size although it may not be the quickest choice to traverse the map. If stacking the tame, it would probably be best to focus on its stamina and weight carrying capabilities. It really combines the traversability of an iguanadon with the tank style of the Stegosaurus. Combat Edmontosaurus packs a punch, not known for combat but still able to hold its own in battle, throwing its bulk around causing a good amount of knockback and damage just if your caught on your own against some aggressive predators. Its also able to make a getaway should the occasion arise. Harvesting Edmontosaurus would be a good berry collector but also able to collect a little bit of fibre, thatch and wood, nothing in MASSIVE amounts but it would be able to do these things. After all, by design, Edmontosaurus is not intended to be a harvesting mount, but it would get the job done in a pinch say you were away from your base and needed some basic resource to repair a tool or something. Taming (wild behaviour) Edmontosaurus would probably throw its weight around stomping on potential threats, but would also be quite quick to flee from predators, and it is quite quick and agile, easy to lose especially on foot, normal bola's would be ineffective making trapping with bear-traps the best capture strategy Edmontosaurus would be a standard KO tame, probably better to use a long neck rife as it needs a decent amount of Tranq's to subdue it due to its high torpor, not as much as a large bronto but maybe as much as a medium to high level Paracer. Taming would be easy for someone that is just reaching metal tear so low to middle levels. But thats not to say Edmontosaurus becomes redundant for high level tribes (see below) Unique Design IT IS THE ULTIMATE HUNGER INDUCING/PREVENTION TOOL. Edmontosaurus unique purpose in ARK relates to lots of basic utility that we sometimes take for granted which is FOOD. - To put simply, the hardiness of Edmontosaurus to be such a generalist would create a buff for all tames around it including yourself which would reduce the rate of food drain. Mechanically, say the standard rate of food consumption is reduced by a certain percentage for any tamed creature within a 10x radius or a radius of your choosing. This buff would be similar to Daeodon like an increase food consumption for the Edmontosaurus, its also easier to stack berries then Meat making this buff potentially unlimited if the Edmontosaurus is well fed and the buff applies to YOU TOO, reducing your rate of food consumption. Alternatively, it could also turn this as an offensive measure, enemies receive the buff similar to the wasteland consumption buff, increasing their rate of food consumption. Uses - Alone it may not be massively significant but combo'd with other buffs in ARK makes this attack potentially devastating. Combo the buff with a Daodon would balance out the consumption debuff potentially making a devastating buff combo for a small battle team - Potentially halve the lifespan of an enemy titanosaur or double its lifespan by a certain percentage buff - Save your life in a pinch, combined with increased rates of consumption in colder climates likely common in the cold mountain peaks, it would really save your life especially on those long journeys early-mid game, or combat in colder climates and colder bases, would make the rate of food consumption for your enemies truly devastating - Taming - Wild dinosaurs would be affected by the hunger buff - POTENTIALLY when you attempt a tame, having a Edmontosaurus nearby could increase the hunger of KO tames, decreasing the time it takes for them to eat taming food and become tamed quicker than normal, good for high level tames that can sometimes take hours. - At home sentinels - obviously lesser use but having a Edmontosaurus around a group of tames would reduce the maintenance and feeding requirements of tames ESPECIALLY babies that sometimes drop dead if your not quick enough. NOTE: NOT MY WORK (unsure who to credit IF you own this please let me know) Similar to what a dossier would look like for this creature suggested STATS however are listed in text above I also suck at dossier art lol PLEASE leave suggestions below VOTE FOR EDMONTOSAURUS
