The community made ARK history this week by crowning the first-ever aquatic creature winner of the community creature vote. Keep reading to find out what creature will make its new home in the vast oceans of ARK: Survival Ascended's The Center. From feathery artillery to strange diets, Yi Ling is bound to be an incredible addition to any Aberration survivor's tribe in ARK: Survival Ascended. Speaking of which, the race is coming to a close to see which community creature will roam the landscapes of The Center. Only three more days to cast your vote! Download in full resolution Species: Yi Ling Time: Late Jurassic Diet: Omnivore Temperament: Aloof This feathered fella is so much bigger than the Yi species I knew in my day! Despite its aberrant size, Yi ling is still somehow light enough to cling to walls and it can even glide short distances. It’s light on its feet as well, able to dodge attacks on the run. I’m glad Yi seems to prefer prey smaller than itself, because it can eject a spray of barbed feathers at an unhappy target before darting in to rip them back out. Its unique firepower may expose Yi in the short term, but its protective plumage regrows fast. A tamed Yi makes for an excellent -- if precarious -- hunting mount. Some tribes use them as caravan scouts, others to torment enemy forces. I’ve seen Yi scarf up the weird mushrooms, congealed gas balls, and nameless creatures scurrying around down here. Who knows what effect a diet like that would have on its feathery weaponry? Watch what your Yi eats, and you just might learn to sharpen its fighting skills! Meet the queen of helicopter parenting! She's the mother hen of the prehistoric world, fiercely protecting her little ones with a love that's larger than life. We can't wait to see the community creature vote winner, Gigantoraptor, roaming the vast expanse of Ragnarok! Speaking of new creatures, there are still a few days left to submit your vote for the next addition to Aberration! Download in full resolution Species: Gigantoraptor nutritor Time: Late Cretaceous Diet: Omnivore Temperament: Territorial Unless you’re planning to raid its nest, you shouldn’t let this creature’s imposing size worry you. Gigantoraptor may be fiercely protective of its brood, but it’s much more of a caregiver than a fighter. Don’t get me wrong -- this theropod will use its sharp claws and surprising speed to defend its young when threatened. But Gigantoraptor has a soft heart for young ones -- it’ll even take in the orphaned babies of rival species. Now for the bad news: to my knowledge, no one’s been able to figure out how to tame an adult Gigantoraptor – its unique disposition seems resistant to behavioral conditioning. However, Survivors bolder than me were able to sneak into nests to win the trust of their young, and they claim that reward is well worth the risk. Once matured to adulthood, your tamed Gigantoraptor will happily look after any of your tribe’s young creatures, nurturing them and teaching them how to fight. It can even use its call to help you find orphaned baby animals out in the wild. If you bring those orphans home, then your Gigantoraptor will happily add them to its brood. Gigantoraptor forms an inseparable bond with its young charges. Bring them into a fight together and they will defend each other, and your tribe, far more effectively than when apart. Survivors, After much deliberation, we’ve decided to delay the launch of ARK: Survival Ascended to later this year and ship the title on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC in October 2023. We’ve found it challenging working with Unreal Engine 5.2, but at the same time, it is incredibly exciting. We’re discovering new ways each day to push the technology to the next level; combined with the work needed to support a fully cross-platform-moddable game ecosystem on consoles and PC, it’s clear that we’ll need a bit more time. We’ve also decided to separate the release date of The Island and Scorched Earth. With what we’ve learned about remastering The Island from the ground-up, it wouldn’t be feasible to complete Scorched Earth to a standard we’re happy with. So for now, we’re going to plan that Scorched Earth will be coming to ASA in December this year, Ragnarok and Aberration will follow in Q1 2024, and the rest of the maps beyond then. Given the news: ARK: Survival Ascended will now be launching at an Early Access price point of $44.99 with a launch-discount bringing it to $39.99. We had initially planned to ship with more content on Day One, but that won’t be happening, so we’re adjusting the launch price accordingly. We know you really want to get your hands on ASA, and we appreciate that support and enthusiasm. We’re going to do our best to work hard to make sure that we can deliver a tremendous next-gen ARK experience that meets both your expectations and our own. That covers the big news; we know there’s still a fair bit of time between now and the launch, so hang in there; it’ll be worth the wait! In the meantime, here are some answers to questions we’ve seen come up over the last few weeks as well as address some new points. When will we see gameplay? We know you’re excited, curious, and skeptical; we understand. Our plan is to show gameplay close to the launch of ASA, as that’ll be when it’s completely ready and best represent the final product, so you’ll have to stay tuned until then. Is there going to be a change to the date when ARK:SE’s Official Network comes offline? We’re now planning on shutting down the Official Network on September 30th, given the slight delay in the launch of the game. When will we be able to access our save files? We’re currently working with Nitrado to make sure that the save files system works, and we’ll be providing instructions on how you can get them when they’re available. Our intention is to take multiple saves at different times, so you can choose which is most relevant to you. With Scorched Earth being delayed, will there still be server transfers? We won’t be supporting Server Transfers at the launch of ARK: Survival Ascended; this feature will become enabled when Scorched Earth releases in December. How long should we expect the title to be in ‘Early Access’? ARK: Survival Ascended will leave Early Access in late 2024 once all the content has finished its next-generation remastering. Are there going to be any changes to the release order of certain content? Generally, we will keep the canonical maps released in the same order. We may make some adjustments with some of the non-cannon maps and release them sooner, but that honestly depends more on our pipeline, so we’ll announce them accordingly. Will we be seeing more ASA concepts? Yep! We intend to keep showing you guys progress on the visual changes between ARK:SE and ASA in the lead-up to the game's launch. What about creature votes? They’ll be continuing to run! Hear the Deathworms tremble as they will no longer be the only ones dominating the sands of Scorched Earth when Fasolasuchus makes its grand entrance on ARK: Survival Ascended. This giant sand-dweller will surely change the power dynamic of Scorched Earth. Speaking of new creatures, don't forget to vote for Ragnarok's Community Creature before the vote closes on June 19th! Download in full resolution Common name: Fasolasuchus Species: Fasolasuchus sabulonatator Time: Late Triassic Diet: Carnivore Temperament: Aggressive (Ambusher) This wasteland’s full of surprises, and not exactly the good kind. There’s something out here that looks like Fasolasuchus, if those proto-crocs could swim through sand like water… These beasts might pop up suddenly to ambush you, or swim around you fast enough to catch you in a sand-whirlpool. I can't stress enough how dangerous this deathtrap can be! Plus their tails are strong enough to whip up sand to blind predators and prey alike. If you can help it, I recommend staying clear of those spikes. I think they’ve got acid glands at the base of their spiny fins, and in their mouths as well. Their caustic bite seems to melt through the thickest hide. One of these monster sand-swimmers would make a great mount, but good luck slowing down something that can shrug off most narcotics. You could try softening one up with explosives, grabbing a spike, and steering it into a rock… But you’d have to be a bit mental to try. I imagine the adrenaline junkies able to tame a Fasolasuchus would earn themselves a formidable ride through these scorching sands. They seem to have adapted to fighting larger prey, so I'd advise any faso-rider to steer clear of packs of smaller creatures that can swarm over its defenses.
