    I'm not a programmer, but my guess is that it's not just the event assets.  It's all the code that makes them work, for every event.  The assets can't amount to much, otherwise they wouldn't keep adding more skins to each event and then let us keep them all.  So it's either that the code that drives the event is really big, or that it kept getting hung up on stuff and causing weird bugs.  Or both.  Adding a bunch of new sweaters and hats clearly isn't a problem.  They even let people keep the zombie wyverns this year.  That leaves the code that spawns in the Event bosses, and that drives the recipes.

    I'm not saying it's fair, or fun.  Just that their excuse for stripping everything out was that it reduced memory overhead and made things work better.  :( 

    That's very true, but in my experience, the code is super small compared to the assets. From reading up about it it sounded like it was not the disk space but the RAM used and I can see that being the case - but only for the candies!

    For instance, in each container, if you're storing 1000 metal, you only need to save the ID for "metal" and the number 1000 -> two numbers. For candies though, it's much different. Since each candy changes different colours, each candy needs to be saved separately and with the colour IDs for each of the 5 colour slots it changes. That means the ID for the candy (not even counting the speedup bonus since that could be included in the ID) and 5 colour IDs need to be saved, so for 1000 candies, that's 6000 numbers saved. 

    This could most certainly bloat save files. But again - for small servers this wouldn't be a problem, so why not let us handle it ourselves? Give us a command for purging the candies. Or even remove them automatically when the event command is removed, if you have to. Or, if it's so much of an issue - remove the candies, but let the rest of the event stay!

    I just want them to bring back allowing us to run the events for longer. I don't understand why they have to remove the assets - they can't take up that much space on disk? Compared to the full size of the game and DLCs, what's a few reskins of dinos and a couple of extra assets (like Raptor Claus, but not cosmetics - all skins will still need to exist as they can be used after the event). Why can't they let us running our own servers decide for ourselves? Especially when they used to allow it... 😢

    The way they've been handling the events is that as soon as it's over and they do the next hotfix they actually *remove* all the holiday-only assets.  So even if you have ActiveEvent set up, there won't be Raptor Claus or Gacha Clause because they completely remove the files for them.  Ditto for all the holiday decorations.

    Personally I'm going to try to remember to go through and demolish all the decorations on the last day, because most of them give a small amount of coal/holly.  I'll use that to craft a few extra sweaters or hats or something.  Mostly because, as I said, chances are very high that as soon as the event ends all the decorations will just vanish.  And half of something is better than all of nothing.  :(

    Yeah, I know. I don't understand why they do it though. I keep hoping that they won't remove all the assets! But more than that, I wish they would just tell us!! I mean - there's no way they don't know already whether they'll forcefully remove all the assets. So why not be upfront about it? I really don't understand the reason for avoiding it. 

    It's so frustrating! Also, I find it so stressful to have to play during a set time, so much that I can't enjoy the event at all. This is my favourite event and I'm avoiding it because it makes me feel too bad to try to join in. After this year, I really can't handle more stress. I so wish they would bring back the ability to make the events last longer 😢

  4. The thing most important to me in all of ARK: Please would you kindly confirm whether the event will be possible to extend on unofficials or if it will be force-ended on December 8th? I would so very much appreciate a confirmation on what will happen, rather than it being a nasty surprise.

    Having that said, I can't stress how important it is for me to enjoy the events, that I can extend them at my leisure. Would you please consider making all events extensible? I don't care if you have to remove event stuff when the event ends, but please let them stay in the game for as long as the event argument (ActiveEvent) is set ❤️ 

     

    Having that said - thank you so much for having the event! And I really loved the nice touch with the ascenders tribute ❤️❤️❤️

    EDIT: and yes I know the base rates have now increased and what we considered 4x for those weeks would now be called 2x. 2x what the rates are today.

    Though... if they just care about what they experience in the game there should be no problem as the experience is exactly the same.

    The only reason for them to be upset is if they do read the forums and if they do, it's not unreasonable to ask that they either:

    1. Read through other posts to make sure they know what's going on in which case it would quickly cease to be a problem.
    2. Realise that they are not all-knowing and appreciate being informed instead of arrogantly sticking to their complaining. That way, it would also quickly cease to be a problem.

    EDIT I'm so tired of being teased about upcoming things in tweets ("there's a lot coming ! promise !") and every week seeing THIS in Community Crunches. Even if you have nothing to announce, here are a few ideas that could make CCs meatier :
    - a recap of the most important tweets posted by the WildCard team in the past week
    - a recap of videos posted by Ark Youtubers in the past week. Or some clips from Ark streamers of the past week. I'm sure they'd be happy to send them to Cedric for promotional purposes. I remember that used to happen along with Fanart Fridays, no ?
    - any recap of what was accomplished during the past week. How many tickets solved ? Or how many technical issues intervened on ?
    - you know, I have not even seen Community Crunches being used to link articles/reviews about the Crystal Isles release (or any DLC before it)... it'd be so easy to give people more stuff to read when it's other people writing it :P Free content right there, just compile links for them. Crystal Isles was just released on console, I'm sure some outlets are going to report on that, no ?
    - a handful of suggestions from the suggestions forums, that are already popular and/or of interest to WildCard, so that people can see if they support the idea and vote for it even more (assuming some of those suggestions will lead somewhere... because they do, right ?)
    - behind-the-scenes content about stuff already in the game. "Here are some designs we went through while coming up with the Tropeo" / "An interview with ISO on what it meant for her map to become official" / "Our sound designer explaining how dino sounds are made"... just use one CC to ask people for ideas and actually follow up on some of the most doable suggestions
    [sidenote : record. Genesis2. Behind-the-scenes. stuff. now... you'll use it to fill Crunches later]
    - a written Q&A with one member of the WildCard team. Each week people ask a lot of questions in the comments of the Community Crunches, why not select some of the ones you're most comfortable with, and have someone reply to a handful of them ?
    - an update on the mods that are/were part of the Sponsored Mod program. What is their progress now, several months later ? What is their roadmap ? Do they have new projects instead ? (I remember a time when Zen Rowe was interviewing mod devs about their work).
    - in general, why not have someone report on the newest and/or most popular mods on the Workshop ? New mods appear pretty much every week, but also, there are popular mods with very frequent update that could get some spotlight. Almost all the mod devs have discords where they post previews of upcoming work, too. It's a dynamic part of the community, it's related to the game... really, the mod monitoring writes itself, it just needs to be reported on in Crunches some way or another. Do SOMETHING with it.
    None of this requires to discuss content "in the works", by the way. But at least it'd feel informative and/or constructive. It'd feel like something is happening, instead of stalling until what is coming actually comes. It's ACTUAL content instead of a filler. I do agree it's more work (and more planning ahead, like remembering to record stuff during the development phase of some DLC) than the current Community Crunches, though.

    Also one project I really could see being carried through these Community Crunches would be asking people to suggest tips, in order to update the tips on the game's loading screen (I think we all "remember to eat" at this point). That would feel productive imho. Partner with Dododex' admin for this if you need help on the project, IDK ?
    I'll also add that I remember filling a poll posted by Cedric a while ago, and I don't remember reading about the feedback, anyone has a link to that ?

    THESE. SUGGESTIONS. ARE. ALL. AMAZING!!!

     

    A lot of them are really low hanging fruit as well. I hope WC reads it and acts!

    Thanks! I'll look for that. I'm 100% sure it's not S+ though because I run that mod :) It only changes things to do with building (although I suppose the "building" NPCs could be a grey area).

    I'll check for it so thanks for the tip! Trying to keep my mods to a very minimum but always good to know what's out there.

    I know right?!?! I would even say I want all creatures breedable! I get the objection on official servers but there's a massive amount of players playing outside of the official servers and it would give us so much more to do! I want to refine breeding lines for every creature :D:D:D

    If they can't - or won't - balance the creatures for breeding, at least make it an ini option so single player and all dedicated servers who want it can have it! There's soooo many of us.

     

    At least start with all the creatures that it makes no sense they're not breedable. Looking at especially Araneo, Achatina, Dung Beetle, Lymantria, Onyc, Pulmononscorpius and Titanoboas. I mean, Araneo, Pulmo and Boas even lay eggs already!

    If you don't mind, do you know where this was explicitly stated? I know it's been heavily hinted, but I remember the original post where it was teased and nowhere could I find that it said this dino was the Crystal Isles exclusive one, only that Crystal Isles would have an exclusive dino. As far as I've heard, Crystal Isles already have a few unique dinos so theoretically, it could be one of them that end up being the exclusive one.

    Haven't heard that about console, did it say that in the teaser announcement? I've read it a few times, but play on PC so might've not paid enough attention to console specific things.

  10. Really cool!! They say "all platforms" for the new dino, but it doesn't say anything of which maps. Is this the new dino added to Crystal Isles, or is Crystal Wyvern the one? What I'm getting at is - will this new dino come to all maps or just Crystal Isles?

    Oh!!! I really hope they add "naked skins" for hands and feet as well with the anniversary event! I would really like to see them open up for customisation across all equipment slots!

  11. Super confused about the timestamp on the post ? It says it was posted 36 hours ago (at the time of this post), but I've checked since then and it wasn't up. All the comments are from 1 hr ago so I'm assuming this post came up at that time and not at the time specified by the timestamp?

     

    It it is indeed wrong, I'd assume the post was created 35 hrs in advance but not published and the time stamp is the creation? It'd be better if it were the time stamp of publishing, if that's the case. Less confusing :)

    Sorry for all caps, but I'm having trouble sitting still ☺️ 

    Chibis sound amazing, I can't wait to try to collect all of them - gotta catch 'em all! Only thing I'm worried about is this:

    The best part of last year was all the better quality BPs and items we got in the Raptor Claus drops, as well as the polymer and other resources. Of course, it could just not be listed... Oh well, only a few hours left, I'll see soon enough. And either way, I'm sooooo excited!!! :D

    Guess what I did tonight ?

    Decided to my first ever boss fight on The Center tonight. Had to hope across to the Island to raid our artifact store there and I had to run the Pack and the Clever caves as well. Transfered accross my boss squad of 11 theris, 3 megatheriums and yuty from the Island. Teleported my squad to the blue ob for the fight, loaded up the obelisk for a gamma fight and commenced the battle. Took on the megapithicus first, honestly it didnt stand a chance although those bolders still scare me, tales of one hitting riders off mounts worried me even though I knew that had been patched. Then moved onto the broodmother, she went down even faster than the megapethicus. Got the squad back to base and sorted out the dinos looking for the element. In total I got 1100 element from the fight, 600 from the monkey and 500 from the spider.

     Took some of the element and turned it into shards and filled up the cloning chamber to clone myself a mantis. 

     Then did a bit more featherlight and otter breeding. Got a breeding pair of featherlights so now I can start breeding for mutations if I want to. As for the otters they were a nightmare. Still trying to consolidate all the good stats and colours into even one otter. Nothing but males aswell. Eventually I managed to get a few half decent females which I can use to help speed up the process.

     With the addition of yutys into the Extraordinary kibble teir (obviously the update isnt on xbox yet) I installed a few yutys into my breeding barn. Its a bit annoying as I did not design the barn to accomodate a dino as large as a yuty. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be but by popular demand of @d1nk and @Zahlea  I stuck a glass dome ontop of the barn anway. Didnt think I would get it done tonight but here it is. Was this what you had in mind d1nk, was the only real way it would work. Pity the tails stick through the walls...

    Impressed you managed to do it so soon :D Just love how their heads are sticking up through the dome ❤️ Although it does highlight how much I want the S+ glass tier to make it into Homestead ;)
