@zero064 Thanks again for this helpful information.

Now the only thing that really bugs me is that I don't have any game.ini file to change server settings... in my shooterGame\saved\config\WindowsServer folder ther only is a gameusersettings.ini file, but no game.ini. Do you know how I can solve this?

Nevermind, as soon as ARkon was working, I saved the world and shut down the server properly, and there was the game.ini file :)

  2. @zero064 Thank you so much for all your inputs, I really appreciate it.

I got a server set up on my second PC with SteamCMD after playing around with settings and reading all the articles, also I watched yome videos for more options. And yes, it works with the "-ServerPlatform=ALL" option which @darkradeon mentioned in his comment, without it, XBOX and Microsoft PC version players are not able to see the servers.

I am now struggeling with performance on the PC. My GPU is a RTX2070S which is not even fully loaded when the game is running, but FPS is dropping very low to 20FPS and lower. Gotta figure that out. Also I have to migrate all my server settings from my ASE server to ASA.

The XBOX version is running fine FPS wise, but it seems like there is some HDR bug. Everything seems to have a overrated RED saturation.

BTW. is there some recommendation on how to properly shut a server down besides just closing the server console? And also is there some sort of GUI for the server console?

Nope, you can do that right now. Initially they required us to buy a copy, but now you can run the server with an anonymous login (no purchase required). The instructions are here: https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/Dedicated_server_setup

I just looked through the article and under "Prerequisites" the article states:

"It is not possible to self-host a cross-platform dedicated server or a server for a platform other than Steam."

This somehow tells me that cross-plattform is not a thing with a steam dedicated server, or do I understand this wrong?

multihome has nothing to do with crossplatform.

on ASE the Microsoft Store version came with unofficial server bits for Microsoft crossplay (Xbox and windows store), but that's another story.

on ASA you can start a crossplatform dedicated server using the steam server, but you cannot opt-out any platform: it's Steam only or ALL.

The command line launching argument should be

    -ServerPlatform=ALL

I bet console only and platforms opt-out is left to nitrado only.

    https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/Server_configuration

That sounds somehow rational. I think I will protect it with a password anyway, so this should not be a problem. Also the server will only be running when we are playing. I equipped it with a smart switch and VNC to be able to switch it on or off from anywhere and remote access it. This will take some time to get everything running😅👍

The only downside I see with this solution is the lack of the XBOX friendslist joining or invite, which allowed people outside my network to access the sercer without opening additional ports or having a static public IP. Gotta figure something out to fix these problems I guess...

  5. Thanks for your answer. Well I have read on several sites that steam servers won't allow crossplay. I don't know which information is correct, but I hope there will be a solution. I mean, I get it if they say that maybe consoles are too weak to run ASA dedicated servers, but the microsoft version also applies to PC, which is a whole different thing regarding performance.

However, selling a bugged remake of a game with a new engine for 45 bucks with a delay of many months, which includes a 30 € per month subscription for players who want to host their own servers is just riddiculous...

But I guess that's how it is nowadays... I cannot remember the last time I bought a finished game.

  6. Hey Community

I found very little information about this on google, but di they really remove the option to run my own dedicated server in the XBOX version? I used to run my own server for friends and family for the last few years in ASE, which was working awesome and I never had any issues. My dedicated server was running on my old gaming rig with a separate account, and we were able to join from XBOX and PC (Microsoft) from both the internal network and also from external via XBOX friendslist.

It's hard to believe that they removed this feature, because there is no way I am going to pay for an overprized 20 slot nitrado server....

I would be very thankful for answers or recommendations, maybe there is a way around this somehow.

    Thanks in advance.
