  1. As far as I know, they never said that Gen took place after Extinction anywhere, except perhaps this one misspeak. I think it is fairly obvious in the glitches that it takes place after, but a bit weird that HLN-A never mentions a) how we got here or b) the fact that we saved the world (temporarily).
  2. If you need a basi, be sure to try Herbivore Island. They are quite common there. Good luck!
  3. I did another three megatheirium today. I had also checked Phlinger's video again the night before, and found that while mine have only half the health after leveling, their melee afterwards ends up significantly higher than his. So now I'm pumping a bit less melee. Still leaving it higher than his due to the bad health issue. This makes me much more comfortable about the fight, though alpha is still probably not doable without the "one heck of a saddle" I mentioned in a different post. I also got lots of loot, most wasn't great, but I did get an apprentice AR. I'm not an AR expert, but it has what I'd assume is pretty bad durability and deccent damage. I'll take it. Besides the loot, I've also gotten around five or so scorpion eggs. I'm saving them for kibble in a preserving bin, although the old kibble system would have favored them more. On the megatheirium side of things, now I have twelve done, and a fairly straightforward plan. The next several days, being weekdays, I'll probably be able to only do one or perhaps two at a time. On Friday, two is definitely to be expected, maybe three. Then by Saturday I'll be done or on the last one, depending on how things go (the last one will be a huge pain since my base is across the map and that one was left behind). Then I'll have most/all of next Saturday and Sunday to farm the metal for saddles (primitive's fine, though if a drop gives me better, I'll use it) and tame a yuty. The yuty seems like a pain, but I've cut several corners to get here, I can't cut more. It doesn't even need to be good, I'll take an 80. I do have a couple of low-levels already, but I'm nervous about them getting hit too much. Anyway, if all goes according to plan, the gamma broodmother will be dead next Sunday. Here's hoping. The grind shall continue!
  4. Well the artifact only worked when she was placed in the "coffin" in the Tomb of Ascension. Otherwise, she probably just would have died. I don't think Rockwell would be able to survive using it if he's on a colony ship or another planet. Unrelated, but for the boss fight, I have an idea of how it might work. Rather than one fight and one short cutscene, I picture Rockwell fighting us, while Helena gives us advice, HLN-A taunts, and Mei-Yin (not sure why she'll still be alive, but according to the teaser she will be) helping out directly. Rockwell will scream at both of them the whole time. I imagine a scene like this: Helena: Hurry, you must [whatever]. The player succeeds, weaking Rockwell. A cutscene-y bit starts and Mei-Yin attacks (perhaps with a mek) while he's confused and disoriented. Rockwell: Argh! Savage! HLN-A: Take that, ugly! Rockwell: Stupid hologram. You're nothing compared to me! And then continue some variation of that until he's defeated and we see a real cutscene. It probably won't happen, but it's plausible.
  5. I was able to do three megatheirium! Nine done, ten to go. Loot wasn't spectacular. I'm closer than ever to you, spider! I'm hopefully going to be able to get another three or four done tomorrow. How fast the megatheirium level really depends on how many alphas we can find. Finding an alpha is really helpful. We've fought alpha carnos and raptors, but alpha rexes remain elusive. Speaking of rexes, I killed a 145. It was female and I already have a good female rex. I think I'm going to be done with this grind in about a week at this rate. Then all I need are the saddles (they aren't the best, but I think they can survive the one or possibly two fights they're cut out for with just primitive) and a yuty. I know I still have yet to actually do any of this, but it's nice to have a clear path towards boss slaying. I will, of course update you tomorrow about how many sloths I leveled up.
  6. Today went fairly well. I can't remember the order of everything, so this might be slighty off. Anyway, I worked on my mini-base (I'm still calling it that even though I think it's bigger than my real one) and got it fully built. I added a storage box for loot, a refining forge, and bed (and later a smithy). Then I brought my two leveled ones home (that makes five done). I ended up cryoing all of the non-leveleds (even making two new pods in the process) except for one. So, for anyone confused, that's five done being leveled at home, one non-leveled at home, and thirteen being shipped to Carno Island. I also brought my thyla and a lystro. My reasoning for bringing the thyla was that they could get extra levels in the cave if I used the thyla to swim through the water and clear the first section. After trying this, I'd say it's not worth it. I was lucky enough to get a ramshackle thylacoleo saddle BP in a red drop inside the cave, so I don't totally regret going in. The one in the cave got plenty of levels outside and is probably boss-ready (at least for gamma and possibly beta). I won't need to leave Fort Ramshackle (that's what I named it) until I need to level that last megatheirium. So, high hopes that tommorrow I'll be able to level more than one (it's the weekend after all), my goal is three or even four. I'll see how it goes.
  7. My plans have changed. Fighting the alpha broodmother with megatheirium that have only 12 and 13k health is impossible, unless I can find one heck of a saddle. I've sunk way too much into this project to bail out now, so I've decided to use them only for farming gamma, and maybe taking on beta when I'm ready. For alpha, rexes all the way, my great female breeder will make that not too bad. Or maybe spinos. That mastercraft saddle is tempting. What I actually did today was pretty fun. I got another leveled on Carno Island for the eventual gamma fight, grabbed lots of loot, and started work on a mini-base. I knocked out a 145 argent that looked incredible, but it disappeared after I left and came back. I'm not upset, it would have taken a lot of luck for it to not get eaten. Among the loot was an apprentice megatheirium saddle. Awesome! Pre-made, but still very good luck. To be honest, while the levels don't flood in as quick as the Swamp Cave, it's much more reliable to farm Carno Island. Tomorrow, I am totally flying in the rest of the army. I might bring my lystros too, they'll help any not actively getting leveled-up. I also made a change with the way I'm leveling. My megatheirium can hit awesome melee before their health is in the target zone, so I decided to stop with the "one health, one melee" routine, when I reach the zone and go full health. This whole thing would have seemed so boring to me weeks ago, but it actually feels exciting now.
  8. Okay, played again. Cave wasn't respawned, but I did grab some loot. Even got a mastercraft spino saddle BP and an apprentice fur hat, that'll come in handy in the Snow Cave. I put in a few levels in that he'd either passively gotten or obtained from the few meganeura we saw. Since there were hardly any creatures, me and my fourth, soon-to-be-leveled megatheirium flew to Carno Island. I basically ran circles around it for 30-40 minutes. Like the others, I went one health, one melee, every two levels. We only encountered one alpha (low-level alpha raptor), but we also got a bunch of loot from drops. Nothing that special or exciting, but still nice. He has around 12k health and at least 525% melee, not sure what the melee finally ended up as. The health concerns me a bit. My others were in the thirteen thousand zone, which is already fairly low for broodmother fighting; I need all the health I can get, a 1k difference matters when the target is so low. I might leave the healtg there and go work on another megatheirium, but it still feels wrong. If the cave is refusing to respawn, I could make a mini base for leveling-up stuff on the Carno Island. It's cool to imagine, I'll admit, but I still really prefer the Swamp Cave. Anyone who's fought the broodmother, what stats did your megatheirium have? That's all for now, good luck. Edit: Phlinger Phoo's army had around 24k health. Yikes. On gamma they lost about four or five thousand with only primitive saddles and no yuty, I'll be fine there even if they all only have 12 or 13k, especially since I want to use good saddles on all difficulties. I have to check beta again. But on alpha, with apprentice saddles on at least some (I don't think they all got them), a yuty, and the far superior stats to mine, only six lived. I'd say my best solution is to pack extra shotgun ammo.
  9. There's a good chance the maintenance might cause this to be deleted, but I'll still try and share. I haven't played yet, but yesterday I finally had everything go as it should. The swamp cave was respawned, I killed a bunch of stuff, and I got some saddles (only icthy, plesi, and megaloceros, but it's a start). Also took home a ton of leech blood (I'll have enough to last the rest of my ARK gameplay by the time this is done). I heard that killing stuff outside the cave could "encourage" respawning and killing a bunch of stuff the day before might have helped. That's three down, sixteen to go. Slow, but steady. I'll try to get another leveled today. And don't worry, I'll tell you how it goes, hopefully the cave will be respawned, we won't have to try Carno Island or the "mosh pit".
  10. Damn you ARK! I mean it's not really ARK's fault, but it's nice to blame something. So yesterday I had leveled up a new megatheirium in the Swamp Cave. Today I went back. Nothing, except for a few dragonflies and ants. Went to the "mosh pit" up north. I killed a bunch of stuff, even an alpha rex. We got a decent amount of levels. I was aiming for 14k-ish health and 525% melee (not a great health goal, but all of them have pretty low base health). We were close to that. I went to kill another, but it was ultimately my downfall. We didn't have enough health, weren't buffed, and were somewhat encumbered. Eventually it to the point where I realized "We're gonna die here". I haven't died for a long, long time with this char, so that was bad, but losing the megatheirium would be even worse. I valiantly tried to shotgun it, but it was a losing battle. We couldn't run, we couldn't shake aggro, we couldn't kill it. I lost my precious Brenda (one of only a few named, she had a twin named Brennan, I thought it would be a funny pair of names) and nearly my life. After her death, I dove into the frigid waters and put on some flippers I'd had. I swam for my life until I was far enough away and it was eating something else. Later, I realized what saved me wasn't the flippers, but the fact that the alpha had been chewing on the corpse, unable to harvest it due to the bug. So not a great day. It really was my fault and I need to accept that. Oh well. Will dino-wiping speed up the cave's respawning? Because for leveling up these guys, nothing compares to the Swamp Cave. Thanks for answering. Hope your day was better than mine.
  11. Great day! I ginded and grinded baby megatheirium, until I was blue in the face. My base became an absolute mess. And those things have appetites! I kept getting meat and berries, but they got eaten very fast. I know, doesn't sound like a great day. But the end result was worth it. I ended up with around twenty or twenty-one FULLY imprinted megatheirium, better stats on all (some came directly from the breeders, but some were bred from their descendants, guaranteeing the better stats). Each one is definitely worth their weight in gold. I had to cryo and uncryo some, which I find cheaty, so I only did it when I physically didn't have something, not just to conserve resources. I also searched for alpha mosas and tusos with my basi, we didn't find either. There weren't even any normal mosas. I wanted to see if my basi was cave-ready. She probably is. Maybe I'll try the easier cave soon. But the grind isn't over. I still need a good saddle, the metal to craft it, and a yutyrannus. It's okay. I've waited so long. I can wait a bit more...
  12. Today was just grinding. These baby megatheirium are a pain to raise! I had a fun day of inbreeding, imprinting, and killing babies. I don't who's related to who anymore. I think I'm near nineteen, but IDK for sure. They seem to get fully imprinted at around half way matured. Once I have my perfect nineteen, I'll start taking any mature ones to the swamp cave for levels, and seeing if I can get a saddle blueprint. I also might see if my basi can handle the "easy" underwater cave, maybe we can get a saddle there. When I finally get a saddle, I might just give up on cave runs and get levels other ways. And I need a yuty. Sheesh ARK, having boss fighters hardly seems to put me any closer to the fights than not having them. I'm also noticing how small and in some parts ugly my base looks. The old me didn't even try to align my smithy with the wall. I'm thinking about a construction project. No, not now. Not when I'm this close... Well, I'll keep you posted. Have fun out there, Survivors.
  13. That looks cool! I'm a bit sad they couldn't do more, but I understand. I may need to tame one now.
  14. Dang it, I tried to post a theory, but the thread was totally revamped so I lost it.
  15. Well I ended up grabbing all the notes in the swamp cave with the first one, plus I've always snatched up notes with whatever I'm riding, not great at saving them, but leaving them in cryopods seems like a good idea. Only issue is that this is in single-player, so I can't just log off and do other stuff while they level without me. The game will have to be running for levels to be gained, and it could take a really long time to get the 40+ I'll need. Thank you for answering.
  16. Today was a lot of grinding. But did I accomplish what I was trying to? Short answer would be yes. I bred my original pair several times, trying to get a good female to breed with my cave runner. During the process I ended up totally jacking my rates and changing the cooldown and egg hatching speed (for mamals and anything else that gestates it works on pregnancy length) and making them even quicker than before. I don't really care. 90% of other people in SP don't really bother "balancing" their rates and just make them whatever is convenient, so that's basically what I did. At one point I got a pink one, but it had the bad health and bad damage. Putting that sloth down wasn't easy. Finally I got one with both good stats, but it was male. Good for the actual boss, but I already have a male with both good stats for breeding. I then realized that if I used the formerly wild female and the cave runner male I'd be guaranteed the better melee, while still having a 55% chance of getting the better health. So that's what I did. Ah, and to think that the old me just wanted to breed a couple high levels and not worry about getting them perfect. I am no longer that Bob. Anyway, breeding the mom and first baby got me a female with better of both stats. Jackpot. I'll imprint and raise both of the new ones, and then breed the female with either of the males till I have enough for the fight. Good 'ol inbreeding. After I get them all imprinted and raised, I'll have to start leveling. And I need a good saddle BP. I'll use them for the swamp cave when they're adults until I get a good saddle. I just don't know if it will be very good for getting levels, since loot will probably respawn quicker than actual creatures. I'll need to find out. And while hide and fiber will be bad, I can get pretty good amounts with my existing tames. Metal has always been awful. I might actually bring my anky on Red Peak to the easy cave in a cryo and farm metal after clearing it. Since metal respawns are next to nonexistent on single player, Red Peaks supplies are dwindling. When I wasn't sitting around by my megatheirium, I did quite a bit of fishing with my leech blood. I got random junk, but no BPs of any sort. And most of the fish were salmon, not coel. Fishing is a bit underpowered, especially since rods can't be repaired, and blueprints can't be used many times. Oh, one last thing. I got some compies and pachies to hit each other and the gang of compies actually killed all three pachies. One of those pachies was 140! And an iguanodon walked through the crossfire and took enough damage to run, although I don't know if it was finished off or not. Compies are OP.
  17. Well, I was gone from this thread again, but I'm back. You can't get rid of me that easily! I mean, no one was trying to, but STILL. Anyway, I've got news. I bred and imprinted a baby megatheirium. It got mom's damage and dad's health. Perfect. The health, despite being "better" is still a bit trash, but the melee is good. After full imprint, it reached close to 6k health, and had somwhere over 400% melee. Not great, but not terrible. My base might be on a fairly tiny area of land (a cliff in the Southern Isles, which fun fact, Nooblets specifically said was a bad base location), but it's actually a great place to level up dinos. The easiest cave is practically in my backyard, meaning I can level up things with little risk of them dying. I got a few levels (like most of my good, non-breeding dinos I'm going with one health and one melee every two levels) and went to the swamp cave. I used the SCUBA/ghillie combo, since gas masks are pretty expensive, and spamming med brews the whole way doesn't seem appealing. I had a hard enough time finding the cave (smack in the the middle of thyla country too, not fun) and was scared I would die. I left a bunch of stuff in a nearby chest, including my cryoed argent. My fear quickly disappeared, as I absolutely shredded everything. I wasn't very lucky with loot, I only got (not counting stuff I just threw on the ground) an apprentice baryonyx saddle (my baryonyx might have helped me tame a basi, but on land he's helpless, with really low health, so while that might make him a bit better, he's never going to be a great dino) and an apprentice shotgun (I already have a good BP for a pump, which I need to make soon and even if I didn't, a primitive pump is still more useful, normal shotguns can't hit things at any kind of range), but I got the artifact. I also got ungodly amounts of chitin, all of which was tossed, lots of leech blood, and some silica pearls. My sloth left with nearly 15k health (potential health, he didn't have time to heal up to that), and hitting bugs for over eight hundred damage while buffed. Right-clicking while buffed does over a thousand. Absolutely great, for such a...rough start, but breeding each baby, imprinting, and leveling will get pretty tedious. The others also won't have the benefit of notes and cave respawns can take a while. Any tricks or tips for leveling up boss fighters quick? I suppose I could have the whole herd follow me around the map while I have them kill everything we see, but that seems less efficient. If that cave is generous enough to give me a good saddle BP, I might not need to level as much. I also think I'll make sure to try a newly bred sloth each time I run it, to give myself more incentive to breed and level up new ones. Anyway, I'll stop going on about stuff I have yet to do. I'm just really glad about how today turned out.
  18. On @AllOfTheAllos single-player there are mods installed. If you can't find it on the wiki/Dododex it's a mod.
  19. Okay guys, lots of news. Mostly good. First of all, I tamed a basilosaurus. It was 125, and near Herbivore Island. The swarm wasn't too bad, my bary took very little damage. However, I am certain that a shark or sarco of similar stats would have been dead. The sharks and mantas have low health, but if you don't stun-lock constantly, the damage really stacks up. The second feed was brutal, but after that it, it was pretty quick (I used cooked mutton). My basi currently has (after a level-up run) 18k health, and hits for over 150 damage. We killed anglers, plesis, sharks, cnidaria, electrophorus, and even an alpha shark. It was all so...easy. Underwater is no longer the frightening realm it was before. I'm thinking about doing the cave of the brute soon, but I'm nervous. The cave of the cunning seems absolutely terrifying, and I might wait until I have an imprinted basi for that. And for some more land-based news, I tamed a 135 male sloth. Like the theri I upgraded and used an old taming pen. Better health than my female, but still low in general (somewhere between four and five thousand), and melee is significantly lower. I could breed them until I have two babies, both with the better stats, but I don't know if those stats are acceptable. Will I need a yuty? High-quality saddles? Where will I get them? Could I run the swamp cave with a bred sloth? I still don't know what I'll do for a lot of things.
  20. Okay, I haven't been on this thread in a while, but I have more news. The past few days, I'd been playing another (also very good) game. Today, I dino-wiped, and went searching. After not too long, I found a 115 baryonyx. I tamed him up (prime fish, I'd forgotten kibble). On the way home I found many more, one of which was 130, but it died fighting a spino, due to the crazy knockback. Stupid spino. I also found a 125 spino (while they can help with the broodmother, my personal lowest level I'll take for a bosskiller is 130. I know, it's close, but you gotta draw the line somewhere) and a 140 rex. Definitely nice, but I already have a good female rex. I got some levels on my new bary, killing piranhas and megalodons was a piece of cake. After everything, he has around 2.5k health, and hits for over 120 damage. I also preemptively made some SCUBA tanks, a mask, and flippers, I'm hoping my otter and high fortitude will make leggings unnecessary. Tommorrow, I'm taming a basi. My baryonyx's low-ish health might be a problem when dealing with swarms of mantas and megalodons, and cnidaria can send me back to my bed easily. The healing from fish will help, but it's still risky. However, the underwater caves will have to be done eventually, and a trip through one could yield a good rex, megatheirium, or theri saddle. Even before my hypothetical basi is cave-ready, it can still get me bio toxin, angler gel, black pearls, absorbent substrate, and silica pearls. I also want to play with the non-story ARKs again soon, but twice that character has suffered greatly (losing tons of stuff in the mesh, and losing more stuff and a high-level thyla during a transfer). Speaking of which, I think I'll make a backup of my Island save soon, it really could come in handy.
  21. I think the presence of dinosaurs and creatures "created" for the ARKs is due to escaping from proto-ARKs. Some of the creatures on Extinction not found in proto-ARKs could have migrated from further areas. At some point Aberration may well have had tusos and pteras, maybe during the event that damaged Aberration they were wiped out, and new ones couldn't be cloned since the two creatures were accidentally mixed together. Or maybe they were always there and the creators or the ARK itself added them as a suprising challenge.
  22. So while we wait for more info about Gen 2, I'd like to share an observation, that could give us clues about the new creatures, and also could help us understand what the different ARKs are "based on." Sorry about the length. Bosses and minions are not included, and also creatures not "introduced" on a map. The Island: Real extinct creatures (some exaggerated): Not sure about the exact number, but a lot. Real traits, but mixed/exaggerated without a real counterpart: Two (spiders and jellies). Still living: Three (achatina, leech, and coel). Mythical: One (unicorn, more of an easter egg). Scorched Earth: Real traits, but mixed/exaggerated without a real counterpart: Two (morellotops and jugbug). Still living: One (vulture). Heavily exaggerated living creature: Four (mantis, jerboa, thorny dragon, and lymantria). Mythical: Four (wyvern, phoenix, deathworm, and rock elemental). Aberration: Still living: One (lamprey). Heavily exaggerated living creature: One (roll rat). Mythical: Three (karkinos, rock drake, and basilisk). More or less made up, might be based on mythology or other media, but very loosely: Nine (light pets, seekers, reapers, ravagers, glowbugs, and nameless). Extinction: Heavily exaggerated living creature: Two (snow owl and gasbags). Mythical: One (managarmr). More or less made up, might be based on mythology or other media, but very loosely: Two (gacha and velonosaur). Robotic: Three (defense unit, scout, and enforcer). Genesis: Part 1: More or less made up, might be based on mythology or other media, but very loosely: Seven (all of them, including the swarms. Very clear science fiction themes). Just my observations. Notice any patterns?
  23. I didn't know people still didn't know about the riding thing. I'd never have tamed one without it.
  24. The news is kinda pointless, but I like the fan art.
  25. Well the point was that Rockwell had screwed it up, and it would eventually come after the second sim. But see above, I've changed my theory.
