  1. Nope, you can do that right now. Initially they required us to buy a copy, but now you can run the server with an anonymous login (no purchase required). The instructions are here: https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/Dedicated_server_setup
  2. There's a thread on making crossplay in the server admin section. Seems like it works without any additional config required:
  3. Interesting. I didn't know that existed in ASE. Since you already have an extra PC, you can set up a Steam server for ASA and configure it to allow connections from consoles (the multihome setting I believe). After an initial fuss they let us create servers with an anonymous login, which means you don't have to buy an extra copy.
  4. It's a good idea, but it doesn't work for me. My framerate dropped to an unplayable 20-40 (it was 60-110) and there were some graphical glitches, like most parts of the obelisks not being visible. On the plus side, it didn't crash. RTX3080 here.
  5. They don't need eyes. There's a radar and a tree-jumping targeting computer in there.
  6. I'd prefer to have the worst of the bugs fixed (particularly the inventory crash and the glitchy movement) before SE comes out.
  7. It's either broken or the file format is a mystery to everybody. I've tried using steam id numbers and the internal id numbers that ASA uses to identify players. I've also tried formatting it identically to the ban list. None of those worked.
  8. Traversing the Island's rivers on a raft has always been more of a pain than it's worth, or at least it was in ASE. I'd always be stopping to break a rock or something that was obstructing the raft. Some other maps did have rivers that were more raft-able, but I only have miserable memories of it from the Island.
  9. I don't think they'll lose many players. In a few months, the devs will have fixed the worst of the bugs. We'll still be here complaining about the ones they haven't fixed, but we'll also be playing the game despite them, just like we did with ASE.
  10. Are we talking about the inventory crash, or anything that'll cause the game to quit? For me (nvidia) the inventory crash is 99% of the problem.
  11. Not that I've found. And I agree -- it is awful.
  12. Does anybody know what the ini changes were in 26.23? One of last night's patches made my player movement really bad. It's like the game is trying to snap me into places that I shouldn't be. I'm on a LAN with the server, so I doubt it's a connection issue. I'm hoping there's something in the ini I can edit to undo whatever the patch did.
  13. It's kind of handy actually. When your tribemate's game crashes while he's in a bad place you have a chance to drag him to safety.
  14. That looks right. Did you do a dino wipe afterward?
  15. They're out there, but not so easy to find. We tamed a low-level one and gave up looking. And of course a few days later I happened to spot a 135 on the side of a mountain, which is now happily smashing rocks for us.
  16. The inventory thing is still broken for me. Might even be worse than before the patch, although I have no scientific way of keeping track. Sometimes it'll crash 1 out of every 4 times I open something. Other times it feels like it's 1 in 20.
  17. Yup, hovering stones everywhere for me as well. If I had to guess I'd say it's a low-priority thing to fix.
  18. It's a tough thing for the developers to nail down, since everyone is reporting different experiences. For me it's usually related to opening or closing anything storage related, such as a chest or preserving bin.
  19. Interesting. I did that out of curiosity, along with the volumetric cloud one, and my frame rates got a big boost. Well worth the trade-off if you ask me. I'm surprised there isn't an option in the settings menu to turn those off.
  20. Does the server start up? Are you seeing the server console come up, or does it not get that far? Mine wouldn't run the first time either. I'm not sure I ever figured out the reason, but I went to the wiki page (https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/Dedicated_server_setup) and followed the steps and it did work after that. Assuming it's running fine, you'll have to search for the exact name (and make sure you're in the unofficial tab and check or uncheck those filtering boxes at the bottom).
  21. The minimum required card is a 1080 (or 1080ti, I can't remember). Either way, the 1660ti will struggle with ASA. You could try setting everything to low and turning the resolution scale way down, but it's not going to be pretty.
  22. I was thinking that last night too as I was outrunning an alpha carno on foot. Not sure that would've been possible in ASE without some good luck.
  23. As best I can tell whitelists of any sort are broken in ASA. There's a number that ASA uses to track players instead of their steam ID, but using that number doesn't make the whitelist work, and even if it did I'm not sure how you'd obtain that number for players who aren't already on your server.
  24. Yup, having outposts around the map is one of the things I miss about the pre-cryopod days. I'm looking forward to setting up a network again. And for the OP, taming an Argentavis isn't that hard, even if you can't get a Pteranodon.
  25. Dino spawning doesn't work right now. I suspect it's somewhere on the to-fix list.
