  1. Most of the legacy servers that were shut down were ghost towns anyway. WC put on many more servers than were eventually needed 'cos of the initial hype around the game and people naturally moving on to other games (we had weeks of waiting for hours to get online as all the servers were constantly full so WC kept adding more). There were also problems on legacy with issues to do with duping and crazy bp / dino stats that were fixed throughout early access and the new servers were seen as a fresh start without those problems. I was on legacy and we had a choice to move to a legacy server that was staying online or to move on to a new server, the vast majority chose to move to a new server. Those who chose to stay on legacy did not have their progress wiped and were given time, if I remember correctly it was at least a couple of weeks, to move their characters and dinos over - and those servers stayed online all the way through to the end when all officials were shut down. Tbh it was expected at the time that all servers would be on a rolling shut down with new fresh servers coming regularly, it's more shocking that some ppl ended up having to reset timers for 5+ years, and newer active players had little chance to secure a prime location. I wouldn't worry about it. It was pretty clear to those playing at the time which servers were going to be shut down and which were still alive. The fresh start was a lot of fun and legacy players on legacy servers carried on right to the end too.
  2. Everyone is so hyped, they're trying to hide it with all this 'crunch is poop' but look at them...hype is real Gonna be fun
  3. Rag, altho it doesn't have the convenience factor of fjordur, for multiplayer it's my no.1 by quite a way. It's huge, so much space. Feels like a real world 'cos the biomes are spaced out. Feels well thought through. My main base has always been on Rag since it released, even when it was unfinished it was my fav.
  4. Yeah u put the tames in, some food (altho one of them doesn't take food, can't remember which) and you get ready made fertilizer out. As for breeding you just enable or disable breeding from a specific structure UI and then they gestate, are born and mature all without ever coming out. Shows mutations on babies too. Quite nifty.
  5. Although I've been pretty cheesed off with WC over last couple of months, I'm over that now and starting to get hyped. One thing that is still annoying me though is the removal of cryos, but then I got thinking. Over the last few weeks I've been dabbling in Atlas and there's a few QOL features there which I think may be added to ASA and may be part of the reason cryos won't be as essential before Extinction as we think. What if they added a tame house, barn or hatchery to ASA? For those that don't know, these are structures you can store your tames, like stables, and you can even breed and mature creatures inside the structures too - all inside a compact structure. No need to imprint or keep an eye on them, no major impact spacially on the server. My main issue with lack of cryos is the returning need for a massive base to house dinos and ofc hitting tame caps. If those issues were solved by a 'tame house' then moving creatures across the map at 3am after taming doesn't sound so bad, that part was fun after all. What does anyone else think? Could this be a possibility?
  6. They actually had a version of this in Atlas, a stable to store your tames which was pretty good imo. Maybe they already have that in mind.
  7. V disappointed in no cryos at launch, as someone who was around in ASE EA I know just how much the game improved when they came out. I really don't want to get into breeding again at all without them, and even on day 1 I know I will need a huge base again, and so will everyone else. No building in an out of the way place and ppl spreading out across the maps, the old high value areas (near to resources, water and obes) will return, most won't get them and moving around will be tedious, you will need outposts everywhere - rip building on officials for anyone not there the first couple of days. It's bad news for the game imo. It's not just about quickly podding a dino for those who weren't around back then, its about base size needed, breeding (raising a giga without cryos is literally bad for your health), transport, tedious dino maintenance, server health and tame caps. No cryos in PVP may be a good idea, no cryos in PVE is crazy bad idea.
  8. TakeAllDino - takes all dinos of the tribe u r looking at.
  9. Thank you for your hard work, I will use it for option 1.
  10. Why no proper explanation of how to use the saves if you don't want to pay £20 per month in this crunch? Why have the saves been provided in such an bloated format? Legacy saves were far more manageable with far less needless 'fluff'. Could it possibly be to justify not providing console saves or discourage PC users to push people into renting? There are good tools and tips elsewhere on this forum to make the process less painful, why aren't you helping provide this info WC? And finally, why no facility to upload your tames and char at the obelisk and download into your local game? The least you could do for console players. Gaslighting much?
  11. Incredibly useful for people wanting to clean their official server saves of other tribes to make the saves more useable. Many thanks!
  12. With having to use these new launch arguments does this mean the aug23 official saves aren't compatible with our normal single player saves? Meaning we won't be able to upload dinos to obelisk from them and download onto another single player map we're already playing? (I know you may not know this but you seem to know what ur talking about and no chance of getting answer from WC tonight, bit busy I expect - so thought worth asking).
  13. That's still not working for me, saying access denied, I assumed it was still the old version they first put up?
  14. Ark gonna Ark Pity the poor soul sorting this out.
  15. Where are you seeing these save files? I can't find anything about them on here. For anyone else confused they are actually in with the legacy server saves:- https://survivetheark.com/index.php?/server-backups/
  16. It will be a file you can download and just put into the correct folder, then when you next load into that map it will be the official one with yours and everyone else's stuff on there. (make a back up of your current single player map if you want to keep it). There will be full instructions at the time, if not from WC, then youtubers will explain it step by step, it really is super easy to do though.
  17. No reason they can't allow console players to download their own dinos and characters tho is there? (Sry to post about this again but since the idea was raised it seems it should be done, there are a lot of people who can't afford £20 a month for one map not attached to their single player game, forever, to host their stuff when something like just being able to retrieve your own dinos to your own single player game could prevent a lot of heartache, I'm not even a console player but this seems the least they should offer in the circumstances).
  18. They really need to make an option for players (especially console players) to be able to download their own dinos and characters to their own local game in these final weeks. Just upload to obelisk as normal and download to your own single player game. One way only.
  19. This is actually something I haven't seen mentioned but is a very good idea. Until shutdown a new section at transmitters appears which allows you to download to a new option of 'local'. Anything uploaded to there could be downloaded into a local game and is gone forever from official. Won't help with buildings, etc but you could retrieve your dinos and characters that way. Would be especially helpful to console players.
  20. PS. Good to see the characters are included this time. Nice.
  21. In any further communication about the server saves could you make it clear that people can download the savedata to use in single player or your own server for FREE?
  22. Hi, Where do I go to get permission to use images taken from the dev kit, official wiki or in-game? Is permission required or are there some T&C's I should be aware of? Thanks.
  23. Nah, to someone used to playing single player or unofficial perhaps it is laggy, but I got used to it, seems fine to me these days. The major lag I remember was when you were inside your own base with all your dinos out, honestly it was a trial just getting from one side of the base to the other. Flying over someone else's base you weren't aware was there was a lottery as to whether it would load in as you were already passing and you'd end up stuck inside their base waiting for them to log on or just abandon ur tame and suicide Happy days lol.
  24. I guess it was, you're right, but it wasn't just dino caps / numbers, those were the days of everyone having all their dinos out so had everyone had to have massive bases, (there are still massive bases now but most ppl have fairly modest ones on official). I doubt they would introduce such harsh measures to just reduce server save times Is UE5 really that good at fixing lag? Genuinely curious what has been said about that 'cos that wasn't something that stuck out to me when I was reading up on UE5. An official server with more than 5000 tames out, and the associated bases, with the new creature ai will be better? 'cos it was verging on unplayable before? (I only say 5000 'cos that was the official server cap). Even if it does tho (which tbh I hope it does) - that doesn't help with the pain of breeding, transporting dinos (altho back then we would upload at a drop and download nearer the destination so there's that) and just general storage. We called out for something like the 'atlas' style stables (tame house) for a long, long time before cryos came in so maybe they are thinking about something like that instead of cryos? - I'd really miss cryos tho, I'm already thinking I will be giving the game a miss, or sticking with ASE, until at least rag is out, guess I'll be waiting for ASA until Extinction if that comes to pass.
