Personally i see it as a precursor for things to come. For example doedi and anky could both use the weight reduction for their respective resources. And if a beaver can carry a anvil and be a smithy, then my anky shall have a refining forge! :D. Not sure about the doedi though, its low level so its fine i guess... Btw, you can use the beaver without a saddle, park it next to a tree and cancel its orders and it will chuck it. Kinda like a doedi with stones, just way harder to tame.

You sure? I have many times hit a limit where i couldn't take anything up anymore, around 2-3 times my weight.

Inventory of beaver is weigth based, so ... it depends i guess? Though i would think that any saddle thats hitting the slot limit on smithy due to mats would hit the weightlimit aswell even if skilled for weight.

Wow, just tamed a level 16 one. This is definitly a high end mount. It gathers wood and berry like crazy, doesn't even have to stop running while chopping the trees or bushes. Oh and it can carry fiber, thatch, wood like crazy. So gathering 1000 wood with a mammoth in minutes? I bet this guy is atleast twice as fast while carrying more wood.
