  1. I played ASE for over four years. I think I have 5000+ hrs into it. Absolutely loved it. While waiting for ASA to come out, I got hooked on another game, and really just didn't have time for ASA when it first came out. Now I'm looking at ASA I'm thinking I may have dodged a bullet. From what I'm seeing, Ark 2 was basically abandoned and ASA became a thing instead; which as I understand it is basically a re-mastered version of ASE. But reviews seem pretty terrible. I'm sure many of you have tried ASA. So I want to ask....Can you give me any reason why I should play ASA? Are there any redeeming aspects to ASA at all?
  2. Question on this... what is a 'lost character' typically, and why does a character become lost usually? Is it more of an 'offical server' issue? I've played for years but on private servers and have never 'lost' a character, or seen/heard of it happening.
  3. Exactly, and if it were an issue... pretty sad they didn't stop to think about until days after launch. Who's your provider? Maybe our group would consider using a better hosting service.
  4. If it's a private unofficial server, then it may be that you have to talk to your server host. We experienced the same thing. Turns out our host company is purposely shutting down our server. I know our private hosting company just decided to restrict the map to 16GB servers only which cost twice as much. If that had been planned it might have been easier to swallow. But as it is, they let us load into Genesis 2, we played there for a number of days with no issues at all, then they began shutting down our server every time we try to load the map. They are essentially holding our Ark game and everything we've built up over the years hostage. It's like renting a hotel room for the night then when you go to check out they inform you that the room rate doubled in the middle of the night. Ark developers and their hosting services dropped the ball big time. A lot of these issues aren't as technical as some people might think. It's about lack of foresight & $$$ wanted to provide the actual technical needs in terms of server performance. Wildcard made a nice map that no one can easily run, including themselves, and now private hosting companies are wanting twice as much to run the map. Case in point... https://hosthavoc.com/game-servers/ark-survival-evolved The game isn't crashing for us. It's being shut down on purpose every time we run it, because the map uses too much memory.
  5. I think the real problem is that Wildcard put out this great map without a clue as to how the size of the map would impact hosting servers, including their own official servers. 6. Hey, I didn't start it. Quote chump and tell him.
  7. I won't pretend to know. I just know what is seems like to some folks.
  8. You miss the point. Everyone was expecting a delay. The issue isn't really that there is a delay.... for some it's that it seems "what's going on in the world" was used as an excuse for the delay. For others, "what's going on in the world" isn't a valid reason for the delay. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Your 'entitlement' to chastise others for having a different opinion than you is what should be checked at the door.
  9. Do you realize that racial profiling is racism, regardless of a person's skin color? Not to mention there's no data to support that claim. I get that you may be trying to be anti-racist, but you're actually being racist.
  10. I'm curious if anyone was planning any 'in game' virtual protests or memorial events to coincide with the release event. Maybe Wild Card's more afraid of that potential?
  11. You know, I can kind of see why not celebrate today, sure. But kind of ridiculous that a celebration has to be on the day of the release. Even if there weren't 'other considerations', I think Wild Card should avoid celebrating until after the initial launch anyways. Release today, celebrate next week after the initial bugs and major release issues are past.
  12. Let's be real. We were all expecting a delay and problems at the last minute, as per usual. If it was legitimately because of the protests and out of respect, I feel like it would have been announced as a delay days ago. Being that it's so last minute, it feels more like a serious technical issue arose and they just happen to have a convenient excuse; which seems more disrespectful. I suspect Wild Card didn't stop to think how pinning a delay on the protests would look in the grand scheme of things. As for launching the updates today, how would that show disrespect? I went to work today. I ate breakfast & lunch. I'm playing other games tonight. Is any of that disrespectful? Nope.
  13. Ha! Shows what happens when you trust a Wiki page. Their wiki used to say they were an Aussie company, at least when I checked it last. But Washington State makes sense.
  14. Even better. I know its not past midnight in my PST time zone. Being based in Australia, I'm surprised they use PST. Seems like everyone always uses EST. Refreshing.
  15. I'm pretty sure the announced release times are in EST, and I'm also pretty sure its not past midnight on the East Coast of NA yet.
  16. Is this announcement new (as in the last hour or so)? There's a date but no time.... so difficult to know if this is another delay or the last one we already knew about.
  17. Thanks for finding and posting that. Even if they really wanted to prevent people from reloading the game to insta-spawn resources, killing the respawn entirely if the player leaves the server is not the answer. It would make more sense to put a timer on a respawn that stays statically linked to the server's up-time. Kind of like the cryo-pod sleep sickness timer. You can't just reload your game to kill the cryo-pod sleep sickness timer; it has to run its course. They could do the same with resource spawns, except it wouldn't be linked to the player's presence on the server like cryo-pods are; just to the server's up-time. It's definitely impacting the quality of play, as people are forced to modify their server settings to make resources spawn as soon as they move out of range. I would prefer to have a slightly longer time between resource re-spawns on my non-dedicated server, but this bug doesn't leave us that option.
  18. So resources meant to re-spawn, that NEVER re-spawn, are an intended mechanic? LOL. It's clearly a bug. Perhaps you don't understand what I'm referring to. Normally when you gather resources, and spend enough time at far enough distance away, they will re-spawn. However, with this bug, if you leave the area entirely before they spawn back, the resources NEVER re-spawn regardless of how long you wait, even if you go back and wait at a distance for hours and hours. After days of trying to find an answer, I did find that there's an unreliable 'work around', that involves setting your server settings for resource re-spawns to 0.0. Just doing that alone won't bring them back. However, if you go back to where the resources were after setting to 0.0. then spend some time there (they still won't re-spawn), then move just out of render distance - but not too far away, they will SOMETIMES re-spawn. I had to do this a number of times before it finally worked. Incidentally, my server was already set to fairly fast re-spawns before the issue occurred (0.25). So it was never an issue of not waiting long enough. They were gone for many real time days.
  19. Great to hear that. Now could you please show a bit of love to all the people who play single player or non-dedicated servers and have to endure the 'resources never spawn back' bug that's been in the game since it released? Nearly half a decade later and this major bug still plagues us.
  20. We recently fired up a new iteration of 'The Island' map, without all of the boosted settings... back to basics. We've since adjusted a few things slightly, but generally we wanted a more challenging server to play on. We also decided 'no transfers in'. Brand new survivors only, no transferred dinos or equipment, etc. After a few weeks I'm around level 73 with a pretty nice base on 'Herbivore Island'. We just completed our water base / pen, in addition to converting the bay into a water base. Today we managed to capture a lvl 1 Alpha Leedsichthys. Initially we tried to lure it in with rafts, but in the end, it was way easier just to agro it on one of our megs and lead it into the trap.
  21. Yea, I noticed that as well. The server I play on has imprinting set pretty high, and it auto-adjusts stats automatically when the dinos hit a server with lower imprint settings.
