It doesnt matter if company has financial issues or not - if servers do not serve the propose and are not viable for the business to have them, they has to be closed. To not go far, look at google. They got 0 financial problems, but still they are closing any service that doesn't work as planned. People used them, but not enough to get it where google wanted them to be, so they got discontinued. Same here with servers. And its people on those servers who has brought it upon themselves, not admins. If people playing on those servers wouldn't bully others out, servers would be active, and no1 would close them. Simple as that. You want to dominate? Do it smart. Or go dominate private server. Plus, there are a lot more server mods dozens of people are waiting and asking for (ie Hardcore or ORP), and it would be great if those freed server spaces would go for the use, and make people who want to play with others to finally get a place to play.4 points

Gee, who would have guessed that controlling the whole server as an Alpha Tribe, griefing and killing anybody who joints that server and is so toxic that nobody new bothers to join that server would lead to it being seen as inactive. Just because the same people join a server every day doesn't mean it's active as new players don't bother entering thus the number of players joining decreases to the point that the server is seen as inactive by their standards.2 points

Note: I'm going to reply to your points in a different order, with my goal being to (hopefully) make the context of my comments more logical and sensible. With that said, I'll begin by saying it's definitely not "pretty moot", for reasons that follow. This is the key. There is a world of difference between making mods a hobby/passion project, and making them as a profession endeavor. Each approach has different perks and responsibilities. Hobby = almost all perks (fun, satisfaction), no responsibilities (you have no further obligations unless you decide that you want to keep it going). If people donate, that's great, it's a bonus on top of the hobby that you already enjoy. More donations are even better, but as long as it's a hobby the modder knows that they may or may not make any money and they also have no obligation to maintain support of the mod. Professional/job = reverse the above. If someone charges for a mod, as a cost/fee in exchange for using the mod, they now have an obligation to provide a product that works like a product, and they have an obligation to support it to the best of their abilities. Nothing in life is perfect so it's still true that we, as rational adults, we still need to be aware that if a mod doesn't make enough money to support its creators they might stop supporting it. But if they're honest people then they also stop charging when they stop support, only scumbags unethical developers charge for software that isn't supported anymore and might stop working at any time. Even professional software loses support eventually, and with game mods a player should understand the risk that it might be sooner rather than later. But even so, there is an onus on the mod creator to meet their professional obligations if they're going to charge for their mod. This takes us back to the "like/dislike" question. What people dislike about being coerced into buying premium mods is that there is no accountability in the system, no recourse for them as consumers if the premium mod is bad, buggy, or even just fails to live up to its own description. It's already bad enough that WC sells their own DLC's that are buggy & P2W, but it's doubly insulting if someone pays for a premium mod from a third party that is buggy and/or P2W, or even simply fails to make the game better. Why do people use mods? To make the game better. Now "better" can mean a lot of things, one person might find it better to have more dinos, another might find it better to have more automation in the game, another might find it better to have different flight models, etc., but whatever expectations the players have for how a mod might improve their game what they all have in common is that they to know they're going to get something better than vanilla ARK if they're paying for an add-on. And being "better", in all of those cases, means it needs to be less buggy than the base game, what nobody wants is for a mod to increase the bugginess and unplayability of their game. The real issue with premium mods is not related to 'preferring freebies', it's whether or not the premium mods will actually improve the base game. So no, liking/disliking premium mods is not "pretty moot", because the reasons that people dislike premium mods are not merely rooted in just wanting something for free. It's a shame that modders in the past didn't have better tools available to accept donations, and just as importantly it's a shame that the general culture of game players wasn't more focuses on donating money to modders as a way to encourage their continued passion. You and your cohorts didn't run your community for money, but of course it would have been more rewarding (emotionally, as well as financially) if more people had donated. I agree with you that it's cringey to say, "Modders should be paid for their time", I would go even further and say that this statement is just plain wrong for the majority of modders, in large part because most of them not professional software developers and don't know how to professionally support a product, but of course it's still nice to see people support them. As a player who appreciates modders I've made it a habit to "buy a cup of coffee for" (translation: donate to) modders who make good content that I enjoy. if I donate to a mod, then as a player I have no expectations and no rights. Whether I donate $5 or $100, they could drop support for that mod the next day and they would be within their rights. But if a mod is a premium mod with mandatory payment, then that mod had darn well receive professional support. I disagree what WC cares about making premium mods "enticing", that's not really their goal. What they really want is to make prem mods mandatory. Their eventual goal is to make all mods premium and to guarantee that they get a cut of every transaction, and they don't care for one hot minute whether the mods are good or bad. The individual modders might care about this, but WC doesn't. If they thought they could get away with it, WC would make all mods premium in a heartbeat. Shi Hai (the guy who runs Snail, which are the de facto owners of ARK) has gone on record in various public interviews saying that he wants ARK to be a platform, not just a game. This is why, for example, they published an American West themed mods complete with railroads and cowboy hats, to show players that "anything goes" in ARK. It's "a platform", after all, not just a game, so who cares if anything in the WC add-ons makes sense. It's also why they published that absurd Mickey Mouse mini game. Anything goes, as long as they get a piece of the action. What Shi Hai, Snail & WIldCard want is for anything and everything to be bought and sold through their own company platform and for Snail/WC to get a fee for every transaction that takes place. Shi Hai went on record (in a publicly available interview, that you can find if you want to) as being in favor of NFT's being part of the ARK platform/ecosystem. Most players (other than the cheaters) see the selling of dinos for RMT's (real money transactions) as a form of cheating, but not Shi Hai. He wants to see people selling dinos to each other for real money, as long as Snail/WC gets a piece of the action. Everything under the sun is fair game, and they don't care about quality even one tiny bit, as long as WC/Snail gets their cut. The real issue here is not players vs. modders, it's not freebies vs. premium, it's not whether modders should be paid for their time, it's Snail/WC trying to "divide and conquer". They're trying to sow division between modders and players by telling the modders "we're on your side", artificially creating two sides that were never opposed to each other in the first place, all in support of their eventual goal to have everything in ARK become a transaction from which they can skim a piece of the action.1 point

Disappointed not to find Raasclark's short here (an excerpt of a longer video, granted), it was one of my favorite ARK videos this week, if not one of my favorite videos this week. Aaaaaaah great, now I'm craving sushi. Thanks, WildCard.1 point

Players no longer need the beta drivers. Hey Survivors, we’ve got an update on the official server sunset process. After listening to your feedback and incorporating additional metrics, we expanded our analysis and took a closer look at server activity. As a result of this review, we’ve decided to keep several of the previously mentioned servers online. The following servers will remain available: As a reminder, last week we announced the start of sunsetting some of our inactive official servers after a careful assessment. Our goal is to ensure that we're always delivering the best experience possible, and official servers exist as a way for the community to play together without having to host their own. When we launch fresh content, typically, we put up more servers than we need in the long term to match the peak in user capacity; over time, these servers become ghost towns as players have dropped off and are waiting for the next major content release. On October 15th, we'll be sunsetting these inactive Island servers: We still intend to provide capacity at launches as much as possible to meet the higher need during those periods. We’re working with our partner at Nitrado to offer these saves after the scheduled sunset through Nitrado’s interface. Please stay tuned for more details. If you’re planning to sunset these servers, there are several ways to minimize the impact on your player base. First, provide advance warning and sufficient time for players to migrate to other servers. Each server should display a message upon login indicating its impending deletion. Allow players to pick up their structures so they can relocate their investments. Additionally, publish a list of servers that will remain operational, so players don’t have to sift through the extensive list of those being sunset. It would also be helpful to allow element transfers off these servers to other island servers. Currently, the complete lack of warning and the decision to delete everything players have worked hard to build is beyond frustrating. I find it difficult to understand how such a poorly planned implementation was chosen.1 point
-
1: with a mutated and equipped stegosaurus you can make the towers useless, not to mention the co-penetration of the structures on the platforms that allow you to use explosives to hit people, tames and structures behind the walls and these are just 2 examples 2If I remember correctly, besieging a fortress is not an easy thing, defending it should logically be easier.1 point

To be fair, you would be surprised how many people would rejoin PvP again if there was a bit more balance in favour of smaller tribes.1 point

Our server currently has four or five small tribes playing together, but our server is still on the list to be deleted. So, may I ask about the wildcard? Could you please let us know the basis for your deletion? Otherwise, even if we establish a tribe on the new server, we still cannot avoid being deleted.1 point

So the server I've been working on for months is getting deleted GG wildcard if you go ahead with this decision I will be requesting a refund for game and bobs tall tales1 point

I see a lot of people complaining about losing thousands of tames, advanced structures and much more. Really?! The mega tribes that killed the servers are complaining that WC will close the servers they killed? It's incredible, you complain about losing thousands and thousands of tames and various items when you are the ones who chased away all the smaller tribes making the server a desert, you complain that WC doesn't want to maintain a server just for you and your group? The only madness here is that tribes that can potentially fill an entire server are still allowed to exist. The mega tribes, the biggest evil of ark, are complaining about the death of the servers, incredible. WC wake up, it's simple math and logic, in servers of 70 people there shouldn't be groups with more than a dozen people, otherwise it's obvious that the smaller groups are eliminated and the server sterilizes itself, why would anyone start playing on a server where a tribe with 30 40 50 or more people has established itself? what's the point of playing on a server like this? why would anyone in their right mind want to buy the game now and then have to compete with such large groups? WC did you also realize the problem and opened the small tribe servers but you didn't add the orp functionality to these servers making them useless for their purpose how can a group of 2 3 4 people defend their base all day without dedicating their whole life to the game, something that no sane person would do for obvious reasons or do you want to force your players to sacrifice their whole life to the game also ruining their physical and mental health? fortunately the players have patched the problem by creating alliances to defend themselves but in doing so they have recreated surrogates of the mega tribes, making the small tribe servers fail in their purpose. The same mega tribes once dominated a server, rightly have no more incentives and must invade other servers however, for fear of losing everything they have obtained with the commitment of many people they hardly fight each other creating a stalemate where only the mega tribes remain, driving away many players and preventing the entry of new ones. At the risk of repeating what should be logical, mega tribes are not sustainable for a game that wants to maintain a good number of players. To all the players who might feel offended by my clear and logical speech I want you to know that I am absolutely not blaming you players but WC who allowed this insane mechanism to be established in the game because he was unable to predict the consequences of his choices.1 point

You want to tell me WC is continuing to fail their players and therefore is running out of money (even with the P2W DLCs) so they need to shut down a bunch of servers? Shocker..1 point
-
The decline continues. For those upset with the closures, vowing to never play a Wildcard/Snail Games game again, just make sure you stick to that conviction and tell 10 friends to tell 10 friends to do the same. I suspect though many of those complaining will still stick with it and that's what WC is banking(literally) on.1 point

I wouldn't put it past them to time this intentionally when Ab released and the other servers would be low.1 point

For some reason no matter what I do, I cannot see supply drop beams on my Xbox series S. When the game first came out I could, and now I cannot. Please either tell me how to fix this or fix it in game.1 point

Like i said last weekend instead of shutdown those servers just make them just with the vanilla game, for those who just want to play without those crap DLC’s and op dino. you will get more guys playing your game.0 points

Announces a cull of over 360 servers from their analytics last week. Says their analytics made an error and now its going to be a cull of over 340 instead. Culling due to financial issues of course is bad(and telling). Analytics showing alleged mistakes is bad. And obviously that's a management issue in the long run which is worse. It really becomes an easy prediction to make the direction things are headed in given the messes that continue to be made.0 points
-
1 so now you want to tell me that it's my fault and that I'm preventing you from playing using game mechanics? yes, I want dinosaurs stronger than the others have, this is a game about dinosaurs and they decide a lot here 2 are we really talking about smalltribes? no one here covers the entire map with foundations. only strategically important places 3. we play 24/7 my last fob was 5 days and yes there are many people here who sit on fobs for days on 1x it can last even longer. This is again the mechanics of the game which I understand you also blame ME for and we come to the conclusion that you do not know how to play the game and do not know how to negotiate and therefore my server should disappear. but you know what the problem is there will be no place for you in this game anyway.0 points
-
literally every mmorpg i physically can't bring more than 6 people because these are small tribes 4 people can defend a spot, even one if he's not an idiot the game is unbalanced towards defense0 points
-
little genius. Who will play this game then if not us? you 2 hours on weekends a week in your rat hole? we are the main timer on the servers breeding, building, wars. on my server play little guys but I see that they come for an hour a day while on my base to feed the dino takes 2-3 hours of time not we killed this game and when WE are gone there will be no one here at all0 points

After all this time my tribe has spent farming filling turrets building the whole server you’re telling me it was just a waste of time like bro what are you guys really thinking about I don’t think you guys even check these consoles small tribes servers to see Wich one is active or inactive you can’t just make an assumption and say ok we’re gonna delete these servers that makes no sense keep in mind I had submitted like a thousand tickets regarding server lag on my server once yall fixed it and now you guys want to take my server down because of some dumb inactivity you guys should personally check these servers before you make any type of extermination this is why this game gets worse every single day with dupe / mesh in every single cave / etc this is why majority of your players keep quitting this game because is even worse than ASE 6k Hrs and money spent gone down the drain useless.0 points
