So I only played the game for a short while when it first came out and still haven't Done any End Game Content, but have gotten far enough in to say what I think works and doesn't work, and where I hope things can be changed.
Building System - With such a vibrant community of creators, instead of them making a master piece house, castle, tree house, or secret under sea tech base... maybe allow players to create prefab designs like fallout 76 then you can paste the same structures on another server or share with your tribe or the wider community. You just get an outline and when all parts are fed in it builds.
Crafting System - I like the existing system. To make it better allow for research xp based on what actions your taking. So killing a Trike and breaking it down for Meat and Bones would give you crafting xp for any weapons or armor that uses trike parts. Kill more trikes, make more trike hammers; get better at making trike hammers, get good enough and make engrams to sell to other players since you found the way to make the best trike hammers as an example.
Inventory Management - I've heard you'll be able to open 3 inventories at once from some vids. My understanding is its your inventory, your mounts inventory and whatever they are facing be it container or another dino? If that's the case that should be a lot better; maybe add shoulder pet to that as well. Maybe a new cryopod that allows for the dino to keep its inventory so you can scoop up babies for a server shutdown and then easily redeploy when the server comes back as an example.
Server System - The biggest problem with the game is space... SPACE! SPACE! Need a lot of it. We see Pillars all over official maps, hundreds of official servers for ppl to have space. Make an OffLine Solo Official Mode. You raise all your dinos, gather your gear, build your base then when you want multiplayer you join the official online servers more temporarily to fight Bosses with other ppl on the server. Let ppl make temporary parties to do boss fights etc. Then head home with the boss loots and keep breeding dinos offline to save on server resources. PvP wouldn't change too much but it could revolutionize PvE. There could be a trade server where ppl just trade their dinos crafted gear engrams etc. with ArkCoin.
Some Minor pet peeves that if they didn't make it into the new game would be fine by me are
- Tail Wag physics, getting stuck on other dinos due to physics - Just remove all dino collision and instead have them slide past each other due to hit box size so you only get tangled when many dino's are in a pile and then you add push thru/back based of size weight so a trtike could push through a pack of dilos with a charge, but no rubber banding or getting superglued together needed.
- Pego's or Ichthyornis stealing a stack of 10 javelins and dropping them thru the map. Maybe steal the one in my hand not the whole stack?
- Popcorning stuff from inventory but as the loot scrolls up it forces your mouse up a row constantly as it adjusts the screen up so you popcorn the wrong stuff. Just readjust when they reload the inventory or they can scroll up if they need too; don't force screen movement if its not wanted/expected.
- Piscivore's getting the short end of the fish stick due to poor design. I'm raising baby Baryonyx, they want fish but it's all gone cause the Argy's ate it all cause it was smaller then the meat... really? Let Dino's Have food preferences, add a little depth if you will. Dodo's that prefer yellow berries best then maybe whites, Stegos like red berries best then purples. Mix it up a bit more, and they eat those first not based on size of food portion.
Just some of the things I've seen that could be tweaked, but loving the game so far! Can't wait for Ark 2 but keep it cooking as long as it needs. Try early beta's before you even announce a release date.
