  2. Common Name: Kentrosaurus Species: Kentrosaurus Aethiopicus Time: Late Jurassic Diet: Herbivore Temperament: Short-Tempered Wild: While Kentrosaurus Aethiopicus is considerably smaller than its close relative, Stegosaurus Regium, it is much more formidable in matters of self defense. In fact, it is arguably the pound for pound champion of not only the Stegosauria, but when encountered in close-knit fighting packs, ranks atop the island’s herbivorous dinosaurs in general. Thanks to its wickedly sharp defensive spikes, any creature which attacks Kentrosaurus is likely to be reversely wounded in turn, and it is capable of piercing even the thickest of hides and armors when it goes on the offensive. I have personally witnessed the Kentrosaurus fell much larger predators in a single such “impaling” maneuver! Underestimating Kentrosaurus can be a fatal mistake, particularly when it is in a herd. When travelling in numbers, Kentrosaurus seems to grow much more aggressive, increasing the range at which it will defend its territory. Domesticated: Survivors have seen little success in their attempts to ride Kentrosaurus, owing to its spikes and hot-headed temperament. However, a tamed herd of Kentrosaurus can defend a compound as well as take on any larger carnivore. One swing of its deadly tail can save a survivors life, or even turn the tide of a pitched battle! A Message to the ARK Community Firstly, an emphatic "thank you" to the ARK community for the love they have shown towards this game. Your creations, your feedback, and your support have meant the world to us. THANK YOU! We'd also like to provide our official take on the Scorched Earth Expansion Pack, and the future of ARK. Put simply: we are absolutely committed to driving aggressive development towards a solid, feature-robust game launch for ARK: Survival Evolved. Everyone at Wildcard wakes up every day thinking about how we can make ARK into a better game today than it was the day before. It’s not always easy, but our intent is ever-forward progress towards a retail release that will be far more ambitious in scope and features than our original vision when we launched ARK into Steam Early Access in June 2015. Your feedback enables us to continually expand the game to become better than ever! Scorched Earth: Our original vision for ARK always included the creation of Expansion ARKs, along with the infrastructure and technical systems to transfer data dynamically between live ARKs. We determined that it is more sound to iterate on these systems during Early Access than after retail launch, given the significant risks involved if we didn't "get it right". While that meant unveiling the first Expansion early, it also means an easier time integrating further post-launch Expansions into the ARK network. We understand that this isn't everyone's cup of tea, and we appreciate the enjoyment people seem to be getting out of this initial view of how Expansion ARKs can work. Now that we have the systems in place to support them, we can ensure minimal integration issues with subsequent releases after ARK: Survival Evolved itself has launched. Thank you so much to everyone who has been surviving on Scorched Earth, and we hope that the new features and content that it brings into the ARK universe will enrich all players' experiences whatever map or mode you're playing on -- and in the weeks ahead we're looking forward to seeing what modders can make with the Scorched Earth content, and the powerful new Blueprint systems coming with them. Regarding our upcoming plans for ARK: Survival Evolved, here's a brief outline of what's ahead: - ARK v247 launches later this week, and among other things will include the fan-favorite creatures Tapejara and Archaeopteryx! - Breeding Phase 3 and the Boss Ascension Cycle are being wrapped up for release, and will soon make their debut along with the first Tek Tier items (Power Armor). - ARK Backstory!! You're going to get your first dose of ARK’s mythology with the Explorer Note system -- will you find them all and begin piecing together the mysteries of the ARK? - The first pass of the "Procedurally Generated ARKs" system should be coming to PC next month, and Xbox soon afterwards. Unlimited ARK varieties?! You bet! - As Scorched Earth dramatically expands ARK's Blueprint modding capabilities,we will be launching a new Mod Contest with the release of the Dev Kit that incorporates the Scorched Earth content. There is a lot more content beyond that as we head into the home-stretch of preparing the game for 1.0 release, but these are some of the things that we're particularly excited to get out to you! We're not nearly at the end of the journey yet, and ARK has much to come in order to fulfill its destiny as the ultimate Dinosaur survival experience of our collective dreams. But with your help, we are going to get there together, and every day will be ever more amazing on the ARK!

Here is our question and answer session with Lead Designer, Lead Programmer, Co-Creative Director of ARK: Survival Evolved, and Co-Founder of Studio Wildcard: Jeremy "Drake" Stieglitz! Survivor, MarioMan9112 asks, “Can we expect holiday events on xbox one anytime soon? I'm sure I'm not the only xbox one player that wants some skeleton dino's walking around.” Survivor, IrishEvilMonkey asks, “Would like to see alliances become more useful on PVE. They're useful on PVP because you can go around each others bases without setting off defences etc. I'd propose than alliances on PVE would mean that in certain circumstances your allies are considered like tribemates, ie you can pick them up with birds, pick up their animals etc. It's not unusual for someone on pve to unclaim an animal so another player with a quetz can bring it somewhere, this would change that.” Survivor, Jwadie asks, “Back in December you said that both Xbox & PC would be getting split screen "in the near future", is this still planned for PC?” Survivor, TotallyUncool asks, “Will uploading and transferring tames from official servers to unofficial ones ever be implemented (with the possibility for the server owners to put some kind of restriction on it if they so wish)?” Survivor, J asks, “Can the lymantria moths produce silk to give them another use?” Survivor, Scorpio asks “So now that scorched earth has finally unveiled mythical creatures, will we get griffins? Because I think it would be cool to have an argentavis/sabertooth hybrid and perhaps they can live in the games canyons renamed "griffin canyons"” Survivor, J also asks, “will you consider re-adding the dune buggy because it would go great in scorched earth” Survivor, Quetzal asks, “Can we get a real backup option for Xbox server saves?!? I have a couple of reasons for wanting this, namely: a) Obviously, the ability to save and backup my game before installing a patch/update (the recent 739.x series highlighting this perfectly). I know you're kind of limited with what Microsoft dictate for the XB1 now with regards to not allowing game saves to USB, but are the game saves too large to send to the MS Cloud storage on-demand? b) I'd really like to have a couple of worlds running at the same time. I like building and experimenting, so I'll occasionally use admin commands when I want 100 walls for example to test a design. However, I don't want to use the commands in my 'legit' world/save because I like the challenge of getting the relevant materials, levelling up etc. However, if I have a single player Island map, I only get that map. It'd be great to have multiple saves like in Minecraft and dedicate 1 to almost 'creative mode' where people can just do what they wanted and x number of other saves they could play at will. When procedural ARKs come to the game, there may be 3,4 or 5 (or more!) ARKs that people may really like the look of (for whatever reason - scenery, materials, dino's etc) and having a save game for each that you could just dip in and out of would be great.” Survivor, AdamB asks, “I love the way Wyvern eggs work on scorched earth. Gotta find an egg and raise them from birth. That has been my ideal since ark came out for all dinos. You guys plan to expand that system? I would love to play in a way where ALL my dinos are from eggs I hunt down, steal, and hatch. Could add an interesting challenge and RP opportunities. Perhaps babies in the wild could also be imprinted since not all creatures lay eggs.” Survivor, PermaBanThis asks, “On top of the question I already asked. With the addition of the wind turbine, might we be able to craft a small capacitor to hold electrical power during times that the turbine has no wind to function? Maybe something like for every 10 mins (in game) capacitor will run for 15-30 mins (in game). Maybe even see the addition of solar panels to generate power?” Survivor, Icarus asks, “Many herbivores had truly amazing adaptations that made the fight between predator and prey equal (ankylosaur could break any T Rex bone with it's tail, Trikes could swivel their head in almost any direction etc etc.) My question is, will we ever see any sort of injury system put in place? Where dinos could get cuts, bruises, or broken bones from getting in fights? And if herbivores could have those adaptations in the game that allowed the fight between say a rex and an ankylo, more up to chance and tactics than raw power alone, since the ankylo could seriously wound a rex in it's own way” Survivor, server16ark asks, “Do you guys think you will ever implement transponder nodes that can be fired from a rifle?” Survivor, server16ark also asks, “Do you guys ever think you might implement a better version of the Magnifying glass? (One that works at distance, and perhaps gives stat info.)?” Survivor, Kimsie asks, “What is your opinion on allowing us to move unconscious dinos (only the ones we can already move when dead or alive), either by hand or with a flyer? Would be very handy when you finally down that flyer and it lands in the ocean, drowning” Survivor, Dustiest-Ninja asks, “You mentioned jetpacks: what kind? I have noticed in games that there are more than one approach. Survivor, royal1rish asks “I would like to see the ability to name auto turrets. Example would be Bob lvl 1 was killed by Main base turret 5 showing up in the tribe log” Survivor, GoldenGuy15B asks, “Will "The Gateway" be an actual structure, and will it only work/be revelant for official servers?” Survivor, Maedean Shepard asks, “Is it possible to give wall torches and standing torches the option to automatically light up in the evening and go out in the morning to conserve time and mats?” Survivor, Judqment8 asks, “Could we have an ini option to enable/disable the mate boosts (damage and damage reduction)?” Survivor, qbddbq asks, “I know that a TLC pass is coming for the original dinos, but what will it entail for the mammoth? The mammoth was once so iconic and necessary for everyone, but by adding the beaver, you didn't add diversity to tribe rosters, you guys merely replaced the mammoth. The mammoth is found in more dangerous area of the map, takes more kibble, and can't be picked up by an argy like the beaver. What will you guys do to balance/fix this and make the mammoth relevant again?” Survivor, Gh0st2126 asks, “Hey I have a question. Is there a console command that can be made to make a building player neutral? A friend and myself own an RP server and we want to be able to have people place sleeping bags or beds inside premade buildings like and Inn or even make stalls inside a town that we built walls around, without having them in an alliance. Or atleast a way to place non lethal structures in a neutral zone so there can be places of peace just for trading? We're trying to go for a town square with stalls made by players on the server and we can't have them close to eachother without being in an alliance or the same tribe. Any way to add that as a command or something?” Survivor, DaEndGame asks, “Are the Ark worlds flat or round?” Survivor, RedStorm8616 asks, “So with the July 4 event over, will we be getting another event before Fear Evolved? And what can you tell us about that. Any new things specifically you can mention?” Survivor, J asks, “Will we ever see some sort of emp weapon like a bomb or grenade that can disable things like generators and auto turrets?” Survivor, StationOG asks, “Floating names on the dinos, will it be possible to have these appear based on a proximity setting similar to the follow level setting i.e. Floating names set to "lowest" only appear when you are standing next to a dino.” Survivor, Lowly asks, “Can we have a minor addition to the engram menu, when trying to buy an advanced engram (example advanced rifle bullet, if we do not already know simple rifle bullet we need to scroll or search and learn that, which requires, gunpowder, which requires spark powder) could we have a pop up box asking us if we wish to buy all prerequisites for that engram, listing the pre requisites and then having a buy all or close option.” Survivor, ranger1presents asks, “Could we please allow creatures to remember their follow settings after a server (or single player) restart?” Survivor, xXSMJXx asks, “Hey guys, first post here! Any chance we could get an ambience volume slider, or possibly sliders for the volume of footsteps or water splashing? I love the sound effects, but some things like the sarco swimming or carno walking are very loud/consistent. When you turn the volume low enough to quiet the splashing/stomping, you can't really hear the awesome ambience any more. My main thing is the sarco, would love to use it more without this splashing issue.” Survivor, Duck030 asks, “Can there be an addition of a ‘free look’ button (left-alt maybe) so the head can move independently to the body? This would be very useful when on a Dino, trying to spot things without having to change directions, especially if a server has 3rd person turned off.” Survivor, PrimalBeard says, “Glass (Greenhouse) structure auto-demo timer needs a rethink! The timer is the same as thatch, yet the materials & level needed to make greenhouse structures differ greatly. I (and many others) believe that the timer for thatch was just copied over to greenhouse structures, hence why it's so low. Please Devs, increase the timer to bring it up to a more adequate length, such as stone or metal.” Survivor, AceAckbar asks, “Will you soon enable SCUBA tanks to work on survivors while offline? This would be something amazing to have, as DCing underwater and dying due to lack of oxygen before you can log back in is incredibly hurtful, especially on Hardcore servers.” Survivor, spoop asks, “seeing as there are plenty of hints that the island has a very long and bloody history, will the ark ever have any paranormal aspects such as voices in the wind and shades of long dead survivors in the mist, or is that kind of thing restricted to only being a Halloween event?” PAX West Huge thank you to all the Survivors who attended or tuned into this year's PAX West! We had a lot of fun at the exposition meeting you all and showcasing our new expansion pack, Scorched Earth. We hope you guys had a lot of fun too keeping up with all the shenanigans and we're looking forward to the next con! All the best from the Wildcard Team! Until next time Fan Feature! 8. Any seperate kibble for "Ankylos, Doedis, Argentavis, Paracer" on SE ? I really dont enjoy to tame a paracer level 120 with mejo berries almost 12 hours. It damages my rl healthy. And whats about the "Deep Desert Loot Chests". It has the same Loot Table like the deep sea ocean stuff. Is it supposed to be like this ? I really would like to see the Desert Cloth in better quality than just primitive

  9. I honestly love the expansion and considering how much work was put into it, I can't complain about much other than Scorched Earth lacking the wide array of dinos that the Island/Center have. For what you get, $20 is a solid going price. I support what you all are doing and look forward to seeing future developments. I will be supporting you!

  10. "Put simply: we are absolutely committed to driving aggressive development towards a solid, feature-robust game launch for ARK: Survival Evolved ". That is the biggest joke I've heard out of any of the devs so far. If you guys would stop throwing out new shiny broken objects and work on the core features of the game, I might actually come back and play. And I've got 2000 hours on this game, I've dedicated a serious chunk of my life to it. Forget the "it's early access, how dare you make us pay for stuff" argument for now, despite how valid it is, I still can't leave animals in my base on the Center because Allosaurs still spawn in my house. Remember when that got 'fixed'? I do. Remember all the bug reports that got sent in? I do. Still can't place a behemoth gate without it disappearing 2 minutes later. Still have to dump my items in a chest before I log out, because who doesn't love falling through the world and losing an ascendant sniper rifle that they spent 18 trips searching the ocean floor for. Still haven't balanced spawns underwater, after releasing the Center map how many months ago? Can't even take a max level plesi out w/ MC saddle without dying to dunkles. Can't even breed the underwater creatures, not that you'd want to, because who the hell wants to spend 7 days waking up every 3.5 hours to give some virtual baby a cuddle or an egg? (I should know, that quetz was the bane of my existence for a week) Definitely don't allow tribemates to help imprint, that would just be WAY too convenient. Certainly don't fix the broken building system, placement system, don't allow us to craft the best equipment because the smithy doesn't have enough slots, don't even put mosasaurs IN THE GAME, just continue releasing new, broken creatures for us idiots to fawn over, to make us forget how busted, glitchy, and bug-ridden this game is. The concept is great, the idea was ambitious, but you guys need to work out the fundamentals before you start releasing PAID DLC. Rant over.

  11. About the expansion ARKs, I'm hoping there isn't going to be an absurd number of these. I finally bought the expansion yesterday after a lot of thinking on it. The content is good, it might be better priced at 15 bucks, but seems fairly solid. All the new weather effects are nuts. Some cool creatures are around to tame and travel with, Got a friend on the The Center server I run a Jerboa. Map looks great and I can't wait to manage to snag some high level wyvern eggs. This all being said, I love the game, 1200 hours would tell ya that. But the way you released Scorched Earth was dirty and you know it. I don't like the Paid Premium DLC precedent this sets for Early Access Games, and I'm banking on you guys actually needing money right now. Hype Train to the max, and then at the end of the trailer on the live stream "Get it now on Steam." Flipped off my twitch app on my phone, (app eats data like a hungry giga), turn on my steam app, go to the store page and then have the price tag thrown in my face. It took me a minute to register that.. "Huh.. Paid DLC.. In Early Access.. The hell?" I pulled the brakes hard on that and a lot of people who have gotten bled dry by DLC trains like Battlefield and CoD probably did to. You guys really need to communicate intentions a bit better man. Screens have been found of Desert Biome being listed in the Core Goals. I knew I saw it in there before and pulling it out of the notes is a sneaky move. Feature Creep is a thing and I know you guys are way behind schedule at this point. Long story short, I bought Scorched Earth on the hope it'll help you along in the development. Despite my very real concerns that you and your studio are headed in a bad direction. I don't want to see any more core features disappear off the patch notes to be shoved in a paid dlc and unavailable (without admin commands) to the buyers of the original game other than by trading with other people through this "gateway" or whatever. Speaking of this "Gateway", I'm assuming it's the only way to get the SE items over to non SE maps (without admin commands) as both player and dino inventories are wiped upon upload to the ARK. I spoke to my Server Hosting web team and they neither offer this feature or have an ETA on this feature nor know how much they will charge. So unofficial server owners are a bit left in the cold by this. Hope you take time to read this and I hope it makes sense, getting a bit late here so I may be a touch hard to understand in a few spots. -A concerned Survivor

  12. maaan i love you guys..you work so hard behind this game.. and i love this game...i don't mind paying for the DLC..hell i payed $18 for ark and got 600 hrs + of gameplay out of it, spending $20 on something that i'll get close to 100+ hrs pleasure doesn't bother me a bit... But personally i felt kinda cheated though, i mean i thought "couldn't they have spent that time optimizing the main game, fixing the building mechanics" and few other things but that is a long list...let's talk about these i have an ok rig, a fx6300 8gbs ram a gtx 1070 a 240gb ssd a 1tb hdd..i max every setting ark has in online play any day, but single player makes my rig feel like a potato i get like 15 to 20 frames...and building in ark is poop!! specifically placing something and it ends up somewhere completely different..normally that's ok it might just be lagg right?? it happens in freaking singleplayer too!!! you know what was worse? the two exciting things that was expected for the 246 patch got pushed back (ansel support was an amazing surprise though) but i had nothing new to play with after a month of waiting, that means i have to wait again till i get payed (on friday) to play this exciting SE Expansion pack($20 usd is not much in america but in my country its $130 that is an entire week's commute and lunch) BUT that was just my personal thoughts and feelings for the first day after SE release (i'm kinda ok with it now, a lil excited for friday ). All that aside i personally truly love you guys Thank You very much for all your hard work and dedication SE looks amazing can't wait to try it and i'm' very excited for what's coming up!! can we please get a few more optimizations like a few months back? those small things made the game so much better or building issues fixed? i saw a ark digest where someone(forgive me i can't remember who) suggested using the scroll wheel to choose snap points instead of randomly selecting one... this would help soo much...

  13. Seems to me they left out "We sincerely appologize" and "we will make every effort to avoid this in the future".......... And considering they language that they've used so far, ie "we'll never make those people happy", this just doesn't cut it for me. It's great that they're adding more content but what of bug fixes? We're heading into the "home stretch" by simply adding content? Nope not buying it for a nickle. At this point Wildcard will only get a thumbs up and DLC purchase out or me if and when they every actually finish the core game.
