  1. I'm going to clarify a few things from my ARK experiences on Scorched Earth. Ok, to the dumbfarse who said Scorched Earth will cut your server playerbase if added: well surprise surprise, technically, EVERY server has Scorched Earth. I have an ark server with SurvivalServers, I didn't even DO anything, and it's compatable with scorched earth. For those that want an explanation, I can best describe the experience the people on my server need to go through is strange. Being a dedicated server through Nintrado, take into mind Scorched Earth is it's own map. It's not a map within the map like the broodmother arena: it's an entirely new map, like the Center. So if I wanted to have people go from my ark to Scorched Earth, I'd have to buy my own Scorched Earth server: not really something i'm game on. Having Scorched Earth myself, I can spawn in SE animals into the Island, but I made the server rules that you have to import the animals from Singleplayer via the obelisk (with admin permission). Buying Scorched Earth does not effect dedicated-server gameplay at all. It simply allows people to bring in powerful, unique animals from singleplayer or other server worlds. It doesn't affect server or standard gameplay at all. To be frank, I see nothing wrong with Scorched Earth being paid-for. The game itself is NOWHERE near truly early access games like The Isle: ARK is MUCH more fleshed out, and is a game in and of itself already. So what if it's for release date? Pretty sure release date only means a little more update and a jack in price. I don't think people understand how FRIGGIN POWERFUL these animals are. The mantis I have completely obliterates many adversaries, and it's ability to dual-wield melee weapons makes it incredibly adaptable; the Rock Golems are absolute tanks immune to most damage, save for certain attacks and explosives; and the Wyverns are incredibly powerful: the 153 when-wild lightning wyvern I have, Maleficent, is a freaking beast. A single well-placed lightning beam, and she's got most creatures like brontos or paracers, at either half health or completely dead. These animals are incredibly powerful, and to me, it makes sense Scorched Earth is paid DLC because of the items within, and the animals themselves are so damn powerful. To be frank, I feel this isn't really a case of "we're getting paid DLC before the game releases!" gripe. I feel like this gripe is more of "We have to pay to get our cool and overpowered animals!!". That's absolutely infantile, and I didn't think the community was that toxic. This isn't The Isle, guys. Come on. Regardless, Jat, Wildcard Team, this expansion is amazing, very nice job working on it in secret, it's totally worth the $20 dollars, especially since I think you'll be updating that one too as you go along, right? I don't think you're quite done with scorched earth, knowing you guys. Thanks for the great work on a great game. Again, taking Game Dev classes in college, I know the process is frustrating. I completely understand how much work you had to do to make this happen, and i'm in awe of it. Nicely done. 10/10 would get chased down on my mantis by a deathworm again (we got away :D). Thanks a lot you guys, and keep it up!

  2. So the reveal was really cool, just disappointed we're getting an expansion pack that needs to be bought before the game is officially released. Seems backwards to me. You should add this stuff after the original game is complete and officially released.

  3. Hello Survivors! The Mysterious Mysteries have finally come to a close with the single biggest update in our 14-month development cycle. Studio Wildcard is proud to announce our first expansion pack, ARK: Scorched Earth. Scorched Earth is an completely new and different experience from The Island. Stranded naked, dehydrated and starving on a fiery, drought-ridden desert world, Survivors must immediately seek water, hunt for food, harvest new flora, craft new items, and build shelter from the extreme heat. Scorched Earth is an entirely new map, composed of seven unique, desert themed biomes – dunes, high desert, mountains, canyons, badlands, oasis and the ever-dangerous dragon trench – each with their own aesthetics, resources & ecosystems, and littered with ruins, geysers, and intricate ancient cave systems. The desert’s biomes are filled with fantastical new creatures, many of which can be tamed. Lead a caravan of the camel-like Morellatops, or rain fire down on your enemies from the back of a Wyvern. Just mind your step in the vast desert, or you might attract a Death Worm! One of the easiest resources to obtain on The Island has now become arguably one of the most valuable resources on this new map: water. Players must re-learn what it means to survive and thrive in a harsh desert environment depleted of water resources. Discover over 50 new items to craft including new outfits and structures to protect from the heat, and new tools to help survive in the harsh environment. Carry temporary shelter with you using tents, employ whips, boomerangs and flamethrowers for ‘defense’, wind turbines to generate clean power, and water wells & oil refineries to harvest scarce resources, among many new mechanics! Prepare yourself for new weather experiences including dangerous electrical storms, blinding sand storms, befuddling heat stroke. Unleash the power of the Obelisks to come face-to-face with ARK’s fourth and deadliest boss creature to date – the ferocious Manticore! Scorched Earth utilizes a new feature called The Gateway, a cross-server ARK transfer. Survivors who manage to survive the harsh arid conditions can travel back and forth from the Scorched Earth map to the ARK: Survival Evolved main game, taking with them newly collected tools, weapons, and their newly tamed creatures to impress their friends and dazzle their combatants. Scorched Earth is available starting today on Steam Early Access and Xbox One Game Preview. As Scorched Earth is an expansion, players already must own ARK: Survival Evolved in order to play. ARK: Survival Evolved is on sale this week at 40% off the retail price for both Steam and Xbox One so if you haven’t already picked it up, now is the perfect time to grab ARK: Survival Evolved and ARK: Scorched Earth! Buy now on Steam! http://store.steampowered.com/app/512540 PAX West! This weekend Studio Wildcard will be joined by PAX Rex and its’ new gigantic friend at PAX West in Seattle. Learn more about these features in the Ansel Technology page and the NVIDIA blog. Xbox Update v739! On top of the Scorched Earth content, Xbox One player will also be receive a new update that brings them up to speed with lots of the content already available on PC. The update will also include a HD resolution upgrade to fully support 720p gameplay with 1080p UI’s. Primitive+ is now an official part of ARK: Survival Evolved on Xbox One, which features over 100 new items, weapons, structures, and survival mechanics oriented towards “primitive” style living -- effectively doubling the amount of content within ARK! Newly available as part of the ‘ARK Official Mods Program’ today, Primitive+ is a functionality mod playable on official ARK maps, challenging players to use weapons and tools only made of wood and stone, without the benefit of advanced metals to create weapons such as guns. It's a whole new set of items and detailed mechanics focused on 'primitive' survival, which fits snugly in the world of ARK. In addition, the versatile Pelagornis and the pack-minded Allosaurus, along with a new Fishing Rod and fishing mechanic, and a flurry of additional gameplay features have been added! Additional Update v739 Content Includes: - New Item: Fishing Rod + Fishing Mechanic! Be a pro fisherman as you apply varied bait, cast the line, wait for a fish to become ensnared, and then succeed at a mini-game to reel the fish and claim copious rewards! - New Structure: Industrial Grinder that grinds items into a portion of their crafting resources, then converts resources into simpler resources - New Structure: Spiral Staircase (Stone/Wood/Metal) - New Mechanic: Optional Hitmarkers for ranged attacks (server can toggle them, as well as client if the server allows it) - Building Attack/Destruction TribeLogs

  4. This is disgraceful. I'm really disappointed; you guys were going so strong with the "these devs do Early Access the right way," momentum you had going from the beginning. Frequent updates. Responsive to feedback. You made me feel confident that this game would actually reach full release, and not stay in development Limbo for years on end like so many other "early access" models. And then you do this. "We're holding off on polish because there's no point in making improvements that might get overwritten by future development." Okay, but you're well over your projected deadline for release already, and you still don't seem to have a coherent end-goal for the game's content. You're just piling on hype-generating fluff while continuing to ignore the core gameplay. Sure, I'll give you some slack because of the legal trouble you ran into earlier this year... but I should think that would make you redouble your efforts to catch up, not waste development resources on paid content before you even finish with the game you initially sold to us. Which brings me to my first question: why?! Didn't you guys make buttloads of money off of initial sales? Off of the publicity you got from streamers? Why is this not playing out similar to the way Starbound did, where the developers made enough to continue development without any additional sales for the next decade? Starbound took forever and a day to come out, but it did, and the devs didn't need to dangle any paid content before customers who had already paid up-front before they even finished their first obligation. Did you give it all away in SoTF tournaments? I haven't been too happy with those, either. Where is the polish? Where is the end-game? Where is the story? Where is the dedicated single-player experience? You pump out new content heaped on new content, but none of it seems to have any direction. It's just fanservice. Don't try to give me that whole "Ascension" mechanic you guys seem set on either. That's basically just NG+, and it doesn't do a darned thing to address how flat the base game is. Yes, multiplayer makes it dynamic, but I didn't get this game to relish in competitive FPS crap. The PvE game needs attention too, and at this point it doesn't have much meat to it outside of a resource grind. I can't even begin to sufficiently express how completely this disappoints me. Please... Finish. Your. Game. New toys and dinos are fun and all, but there comes a time when you actually need to get around to doing your homework. When you get around to touching up awkward animations. When you get around to addressing the progression that has blistered out of control into a meaningless grind. When you get around to balancing your game so that players can be challenged by something other than an arbitrarily vast difference in stats. When you get around to making sure your game runs beautifully like your trailers on hardware that isn't quite top-of-the-line. I wait for updates to the product I've already bought, not additional cash-grabs, and it is endlessly aggravating to think that you've spent time working on this thing. I firmly believe that your fanbase needs to be patient with the speed of development... but patience has its limits when you do stuff like this.

  5. This expansion has apparently been in development from the beginning. It was already planned. And had they met their original release date, it would have been released right around the time frame when they said they wanted to release their first DLC, (three months after launch...).The way I see it, Ark's original release has been delayed only because the studio found that it wanted to do more than it originally planned and ultimately deliver a better product. You could maybe argue that's not the best way to run the development process, but I am continually awed by what this team can and is putting together. I will happily buy the DLC, enjoy it to no end, and continue to support this amazing team. I look forward to full launch with even greater anticipation. Also, with regards to the concerns over adding fantasy creatures to ARK, I welcome the blend, and for those that want the DLC maps to remain separate, I'm sure that sooner or later there will be Vanilla Servers for various DLC that don't allow creatures from other ARKS.

  6. Sorry, but are you kidding me? You have released paid DLC as big as main game, for game which hasn't been finished yet. ARK: Survival Evolved is still not finished, you missed your first release date and you still waste resources and money for DLC, even though the main game has the worst optimisation players have ever seen, full of bugs and lackluster gameplay. I see it now. You want to stay in Early Access forever, because it's convenient for you, isn't it? This is really disgusting, I don't believe ARK:SE would be ever finished.

  7. They all have DLC. Not one of them releases a DLC before their game is finished. The time they took to make and polish a DLC, could and SHOULD have been put into finishing the actual game that was suppose to be done already. For a very long time having paid DLC on a pre-release game was not even allowed on steam. This is only the 2nd time I've seen it (the first was prision architect and the player base asked them to do it.) People are justifiably mad that resources were taken from completing the game and allocated to making us spend even more money for a still incomplete product. If they had come out and said, "look we need more capital, the lawsuit hit us hard, so we focused on making this awesome addition." sure. But to release it as a surprise and act like they're doing everyone a favor? Horrible customer service.

  12. Game still in EA, sure lets put out a paid DLC.....for shame. Finish the base game first. Still waiting for that hard June 2016 release lol. Promises Promises.

  13. Kind of a bad practice, releasing an expansion pack for another $20 when your primary game is still unfinished and unreleased in it's official form.

  14. They released an expansion for a game that we paid money for already. A game that has not yet officially released. A game that i have been told constantly since purchasing that it is in "alpha state" and will be finished. Im not happy. How about finishing and officially releasing the product people already paid for before you try to reach back into our wallets for more. I may be done with Wildcard on principal alone. Outside of that, the release looks awesome.

  17. The amount of trolling you are trying to pull is laughable. You get the one intelligent response. Now you resort to calling me ignorant? The only reason you aren't trying harder is because you have no argument because you realize I'm right. I can accept that

  18. NO IT IS NOT , IT IS 26.99 FOR THOSE OF US IN THE USA , You know the people that everyone complains about , We ARE paying THE SAME PRICE AS THE FULL GAME FOR THIS. I'm D O N E with you wildcard.

  20. Hey UnvaluedMammal, its crap like your comment that makes my point about people not wanting to accept the fact that this game isn't finished and just want to blame the Devs. Hey I got an idea, just stop playing the game until its done oh my gosh or how about be constructive and help solve the problems, oh but that wouldn't allow you to complain darn

  21. Hey guess what profanity doesn't make you look smarter or help get your point across. Release dates change all the time so argument invalid. Yes they have a small team of devs, once again not a AAA developer duh. Guess what smarty you also DONT HAVE TO BUY THE DLC AND YOU CAN STILL GET ACCESS TO THE CREATURES AND ITEMS, JUST NOT THE MAP. Was that obvious enough for you?

  22. This is the 4th time the same mistake is made. I'm fine with bugs and glitches and having my stuff wiped once or twice but at what point my do we start to hold the developer who is clearly not putting time into the right areas responsible? For people with your viewpoint I guess the answer is "never". If you don't understand why dedicated and single player users are frustrated while their games don't work and the devs are celebrating a release of a paid dlc I'm not really sure what to say.
    1 point
  23. Nobody ever said it was free. Whoever did lied, or you misheard severely. Edit: Or you missed out on the stream where they repeated multiple multiple times that it costed 20$

  24. It's hard to take you seriously if you can't see why people are mad. They released paid content while once again breaking the main game for the majority of players. It's not rocket science.
    1 point
  25. All these people talking about "why release content like this when the main game isn't even complete." How do you know this isn't meant to be part of the main game? I get that you have to pay for it but guess what you also don't have to pay for it if other people in your tribes do cuz all the new creatures and items can be brought to you. Games take money to make, would you rather they start a GoFundMe thing rather than releasing all new content for a price? It isn't like COD or any other game where you just pay for some silly tiny map packs that all you get to do is run around in circles and shoot a gun, this is a GIANT expanse of a map with dynamic weather, temperature changes, brand new creatures (and we aren't talking just one or two), an all new way to wage war against other tribes, a new boss, and I am sure much more in the future. This is exactly what the community wanted and I can't comprehend the salt. We all wanted the Ark to work like this, where we could go from one Ark with Dinos, to another Ark with "Mythic" creatures, to another Ark, and so on, and now it is possible for this future. Do I think it is worth the price? Yes. Why? I believe in supporting games I love, especially when they release content worth it. I think some people got the wrong idea when there are "free" maps you can download as mods, which is all well and fine but mod developers agree to make these things for free and aren't allowed to make money off of content that isn't theres(copyrights) or I guarantee they would if they could. If you don't want to pay then don't, but don't act like this was the most awful decision you have ever heard of.

  27. I`m really sad :-( Why don't you finish first the main Game, before you start with other projects? We all are waiting for a stable game.... a long time now. So sad.......

  28. Nope this is my true opinions. I was bored of the ARK, I didn't actually play much, as with most games after a while it's repetitive. This is exactly what was needed for me because there is so much to drag me back in again. Yes paying for a DLC sucks, but i'm happy to support it so I see no issue. I understand people won't like the way it's been handled etc and people will want the Devs to focus on ARK first, but just because I have my opinions doesn't mean they aren't real opinions.
    1 point
  29. Hey 'Jat', one quick question : Are you insane? I don't care how you want to justify the price tag. This is an early access game release on xbox one that's still completely unoptimised and bug ridden. Your team gets leeway on that BECAUSE it's still in early preview. It's acceptable. But trying to push paid DLC content when your base game isn't complete or even running to a quality standard smacks of exploitation of your playerbase in the worst possible way. Your Studio's development priorities here are insulting and regardless of the reasoning put forward, understand that the gaming community at large will call it for what it is and slap it down as it deserves. For a release like this with great potential in a sea of online survival experiences, you need to focus on nailing the core structure of your game before you even CONSIDER development work on new content. If Ark development was the primary focus and we had a solid performing final release on Xbox and PC, I have no doubt the gaming community at large would 100% back the studio on a release like this. Paid content is not a problem at all for a hungry playerbase. But pushing paid content when the core gaming experience still has so many issues is a glaring insight into the development studio's priority process. At the end of the day, this discussion isn't even about whether the 'new content' justifies the price tag. This is about whether the studio should even be focused on content development at all when the core gaming experience on base technicals needs so much more attention. This DLC looks good on paper for sure, but for the struggling and supportive Ark playerbase riding along with their early access dollars to see a quality release, they will react very angrily to this move on behalf of the studio. If WildCard thinks the early payoff of new content is worth the risk, they may want to think again. They may have just signed the death warrant of this franchise. I paid to be on board with the Xbox One release under the preview program because I like the core concept design and wanted to support the studio to realise the full potential of this game. But this game is still far from finished and not even ready for final release yet. It runs poorly at the best of times on Xbox One with shockingly low frame rates and countless bugs and glitches. Wild Card's focus here clearly hasn't been on getting this game up to a quality standard on console and in a sea of half finished survival games on the market that's still growing, I just cannot continue to provide support for this DLC. I refuse to support it at this point in time & I certainly won't pay a dime for it. If anything, I'm likely to just quit supporting the game completely. Wild Card needs to understand that their business priorities currently conflict with their supporting playerbase. * We don't WANT 'new' content at this point in time. * We want a quality, core Ark experience first. Your studio may think it's already meeting the objective of the second point, but if your community support team is active enough on social media, you will soon find out how disasterously wrong this assumption actually is.

  31. Jat,Scorched Earth looks like an amazing piece of content, well worth the 20 bucks. I'm not gonna argue that point. My problem is that is incredibly detailed, has amazing creatures, all the new recipes and what not. My issue is that you guys were originally shooting for a 1 year Early Access program. June/15-June/16 Now are you gonna sit there and tell me point blank and straight faced that with all the work that went into scorched earth. All that map, all those creatures, all the new models, textures, assets. That your team couldn't have hit the 1 Year Early Access deadline that you all set for yourselves? I may be wrong and I probably can't find that post now, but I think that was one of the original statements. So as far as I can see, additional money was put before your promises to the original founders and I am not okay with that. At all. I'd like your thoughts and a response on this.

  35. I really can't believe that you have the gall to ask for money for a dlc for an early access game. Instead of fixing whats broken in the main game, you create and entire new world that will have even more issues to add to the current ones. I thought I had found THE GAME to play with my friends but unfortunatley because of your greed you have not only broke the main game with this ridiculus 8 gig update that doesn't offer hardly anything for the people the bought your early access game, you have managed to anger a good chunk of players who will walk away from your product because asking money for a dlc for an unfinished game is an EA like sausage move.

  36. So back in July there were a number of upcoming changes that folks had been waiting on that really would improve the feel of the game. Things like fixing dinos getting stuck on trees, adding basic pathing and other AI to dinos, fixing engram layout so it wasn't such a cluster@#$*() finding things, fixing the documentation for the devkit since it was out of date, getting better about announcing and hitting patch targets. I will point out that was all in July of last year, 14 months ago, I left in November and recently came back to see what had been fixed, sadly the answer is 'not a lot' but hey there are prehistoric kangaroos so there's that. Then you promptly borked up the one half way decent semi-official mod that tried to fix balance issues by making it an official TC (looking at you prim+), apparently promptly abandoned it and released this new paid for expansion. I suspect these mysterious creatures will also get stuck on trees (or cactuses or something), include horribly sorted engrams and some absolutely required devkit change required to support the expansion that for some inexplicable reason is tied to the base game and will be delayed for a month (see Survival of the Fittest release) thus borking many modded game servers. So congrats on the expansion, it's a lot of work and you probably deserve a back pat but it sure would have been nice to fix some of the 16 month old bugs first.

  37. so now the game is pay to win? people who own the DLC automatically have an advantage and can make more weapons and bring in unobtainable creatures to players who don't own the DLC. Whatever happened to the promise of no paywall?

  38. Actually, it's more of the fact that for probably the past 4-6 months they've been primarily working on this Expansion Pack, while both the PC and Xbox Version of the original game is still extremely buggy (such as falling through maps, dinos phasing through floors), horribly optimized and now it feels like they're trying to push off the original game by saying; "look, SE is way better and we're going to be focusing all of our effort on it, instead of Survival."
    1 point
  39. Yeah but lets be real on this. No mans sky $60 Ark $29.99+20 for the expansion. In my opinion this is still $10 cheaper and you get way more for your money. Yes its buggy but they are still adding more and more every month. I haven't played a game this much since EVE. Oh yeah no monthly sub...... Still worth it in my book maybe a little in bad taste but worth it.
