Black Island - A Better Way to Play ARK.

We are a challenging, immersive, and password-protected PvPvE server on 'The Center' with weekly events. Our server is fine-tuned to provide a challenge to even the most seasoned players and a community of skilled, mature, and most of all fun gamers that's growing every day.

PASSWORD-PROTECTED:
For the majority of our server hosting, we welcomed all players on a public server. However, to best preserve the integrity of a quality server and community we’ve now decided to provide a passworded, ‘luxury’ server of sorts. This ensures our efforts go to quality players. Our intent is to weed out immature players which in turn gives us the maximum amount of time to devote our energy to legitimate server duties (e.g. website and Steam Group, recruiting, player assistance) rather than to server ‘drama’. Quality and quantity of your relationship with the admins in the event you need assistance, arguably the most important asset on an unofficial server, is our priority.

HOW TO JOIN:
We ask to have a quick chat with all prospective players before joining (<5 minutes). If you are a good fit and given the password, it is not necessary for your future tribemates to do this process. Please note, however, that as a tribe leader you are responsible for making sure all members are aware of and willing to abide by server rules if they are given the password by you and not by an admin.

SERVER AGE & LONGEVITY:
We’ve been running Black Island since August of 2015, so we're not at risk of disappearing overnight. We do not wipe nor do we have scheduled wipes.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
A great community is our priority - it can make or break the game. We are looking for active, fun members who are interested in active PvP and have the emotional fortitude to participate in it. 18+ is recommended, 21+ is preferred, but any age that can fulfill these roles is allowed. 

PvPvE:
While we host both PvP and PvE events, our standard playing environment is no-grief PvP. Some players build PvE communal areas for all to use. Some tribes may keep entirely to themselves, but still are susceptible to minor PvP engagements in the wild. Our goal is to balance a realistic survival environment with respecting those whose playstyle is more PvE. Generally, your activity in pursuing PvP correlates with the amount you will receive in return. With that being said, you can control the amount of PvP you're involved in to a large extent, you can make allies to help defend your position, etc. but you cannot opt out of PvP entirely.

ADMINS:
The two owners of the server (Lonomis and Sararas) are the only two server owners/admins. We've had over a year to grow a quality community alongside experience on our part to maintain a competitive server. We are active, knowledgeable, and dedicated to providing the best possible experience of ARK that we can. Quick, quality troubleshooting and responsiveness to duties regarding the server and our playerbase are a guarantee.

WHAT IS BLACK ISLAND GAMING:
We are not an official clan. Our website, Steam Group, and Twitter are simply tools to assist both our current and prospective players who are searching for their next home. When you're searching for your next server it's difficult to know whether or not what you read about the server's advertisement matches its reality. Actions speak louder than words. We believe through putting extra effort in these areas, it helps prospective players know we are committed to providing the best server we can while keeping our current players better connected to us and to each other.

COMMUNITY:
Our Steam Group is over 250 members strong. Most are active in TeamSpeak, some are active just in chat, and we still greatly enjoy the company of those who prefer to build and tame quietly. We assess each player's long-term value to the community and server as a whole; if you are a griefer, hacker, immature, or generally a poor sport you will likely be asked or forced to leave.

TWITTER:
Community is what's most important to us. Not only do we want our players to have a great community in-game, but we realize the importance of having one outside of it. Visit @BlackIslandARK for daily updates about all things (e.g., server downtime, upcoming events, etc.) Black Island.

Server Difficulty:

Please be advised before joining that this is a higher difficulty server for mature players which requires you understand the dynamics and progression of survival, one of the most important aspects being that it is not a 'game of one.' That is, to have a successful survival experience it is not reasonable to expect safety, comfort, and dominance to the environment just as an individual or simply because you're human. However, working together to assemble tribes, gather resources, master new trades, allocate duties, and gradually earn your hold over a primal and dangerous environment is not only possible, but in our opinion more rewarding, when it's done in a realistically challenging, and sometimes even grueling, way.

Server Details:

  • Wiped October 15, 2016 due to changing server style (moved from a public to private server).
  • Hosted in Dallas, TX | 40 Slots
  • Advanced DDoS protection, excellent ping.

Multipliers:

  • Difficulty 400% | 60/30 Minute Day/Night.
  • Max Player Level: 115 (you can learn all engrams), Max Wild Dino Level: 150.
  • 1.75x Player Damage, 2.5x Wild Dino Damage, 1.5x Dino Spawn Rate.
  • 15x Egg Incubation, 20x Baby Maturation, 2.5x Faster Breeding Interval.
  • 0.5 Hunger and Thirst Drain, 0.2 Player and Dino Stamina Drain,
  • 2.0x  Player Health Recovery, 4.0x Dino Health Recovery
  • Structure Damage Multiplier 1.75, Structure Resistance 0.85
  • x2 Crop Growth, x3 Slower Crop Decay.
  • x3 Max Platform Structures.
  • Gamma, Player Location, Crosshairs, and Player in Third Person disabled.
  • No regular/scheduled wipes; occurs only if files corrupt.

Policies:

Guidelines that, if broken, will result in a warning to correct unwanted behavior. If the behavior does not change following the warning, it will result in a ban.

  • Do not spam global chat: numerous resources are provided to get in contact with an admin in the event you need assistance. Whether you are having personal issues (e.g. connection difficulties, a dino is stuck), issues with your tribe (e.g. tribe merging issues, suspected harassment from another tribe), or are witnessing other players breaking rules (e.g. you have been offline raided, you are being spawn killed), please address these issues outside of global chat. Global chat is intended, and through our discretion will remain, to only be used to interact with each other in-game. That means you’re free to enjoy yourself, but should you experience a problem do not address it in global chat and instead find a method to contact an admin directly.
  • No obstructive building: building in all areas of the map is allowed (e.g. mountaintops, underwater bubbles, the center island) and this also includes caves. However, you may not block access to artifacts within caves. Do not place pillars or foundations on any area of the map unless your construction is imminent or in progress.

Rules:

Obligatory guidelines that, if broken, will result in an immediate temporary or permanent ban. If you receive a temporary ban and break a rule again, you will receive a permanent ban. You may file ban appeals upon being temporarily banned; if you have been permanently banned any appeal will not be considered.

  • Do not kill new spawns: do not harass or grief new players to the server.
  • Do not offline raid: at minimum, one member of the tribe must be online if you choose to raid. 
  • Do not grief: causing excessive harm or taking excessive actions that prevent others from enjoying or playing rather than genuine actions towards advancing your tribe is prohibited (e.g., obstructive building). Ultimately, only an admin can determine what constitutes griefing.

Notes Pertaining to the Rules:

  • Raiding includes causing damage or harm to a tribe's structures, dinos, or character. If you can obtain materials without damaging or breaking any structures, dinos, or character from a tribe's base via negligence on their part (e.g., leaving a gate or door open), it is permitted. This is a risk whose consequences you are accountable for in the event you end up killing a dino or destroying a structure. For example, sneaking through a gate that is left open to access narcotics in a mortar and pestle would be allowed while sneaking through a gate to destroy storage chests is not. We don't protect people that don't protect themselves.
  • Toxic players come in many forms and generally seek loopholes upon specific instances of griefing being listed as prohibited. It is for this reason that we leave this rule as generalized as possible so we can fairly ban players who are abusive, manipulative, or have an overall destructive presence on the server and in our community despite ‘not officially breaking any rules'.

Halloween Special Events are happening this week and weekend!

Some are adopted from last year's Halloween Events (e.g. our gigantic, custom-made Haunted Tower), but a lot has changed in ARK in a year so we're even more excited to reveal bigger, better new ones too that will be revealed throughout the week!

TONIGHT | HAUNTED BOSS TOWER

Resting deep within The Center map lay the ruins of a once powerful tribe long since past. Their screams still echo in the dark, but rumor has it, so does their loot. What may on the outside seem to be a harmless and deserted tower left for ruin will reveal itself to be a menacing opportunity to reclaim their lost bounty.

Filled with both tricks and treats, fight your way through an enormous abandoned tower with bosses and increasing difficulty at each level.

While I have started my own server now I want to give a shout out and thanks to Lonomis and Sararas.

This is a great server and Lonomis is an admin. Who really cares about his Ark and the enjoyment of his players.

Why would I praise a "Rival"? Because he they are good people and their brand of Ark isn't in competition with mine and I had a great time there.

Thanks for the good times Lonomis and Sararas. I'll be sure to still stop in now and then.
