Hey guys!

We're back from PAX! With a new contest to boot too ;)!

ARK NVIDIA Ansel Photography Contest

This weekly screenshot competition asks players to take in-game photographs from either ARK: Survival Evolved or our new desert themed expansion pack ARK: Scorched Earth using NVIDIA Ansel, and meet the category requirements listed below.

Winners will be announced each Friday during ARK’s regular “Community Crunch” blog post with the initial batch of winners announced Friday, September 9. Each winner (3) will receive $100 each. Want to enter? ARK-Ansel screenshot entries should be e-mailed to anselcontest@studiowildcard.com

If you need a place to upload a file for the contest, make use of Wetransfer which will allow up to 2gb for free! :)

Three Categories

  • Super Resolution: These should be taken at 8x Super Resolution. Players can optionally use Depth of Field effects accessible in Spectator mode by pressing the [Delete] key.
  • Panoramic 360 Stereoscopic 3D: These should be taken at 4x Super Resolution,  in 360 Stereoscopic 3D mode. We will crop them to 2D for web display, while also providing the 3D version for viewing within VR display. Check out your 360 Stereo results on your HMD or on your Android Phone with NVIDIA VR Viewer
  • Freeform: Any settings, whacky and creative use of Ansel filters are encouraged. Adding humorous titles/captions in Photoshop is also acceptable for this category!

Ansel is a revolutionary new way to capture in-game shots.  Compose a shot from any position, adjust with post-process filters, capture HDR images in high fidelity formats, and share the screenshots in 360 via a smartphone, PC or VR headset. Learn more about these features in the Ansel Technology page and the NVIDIA blog.

How to run NVIDIA Ansel

First of all, you'll want to make sure you're running the latest Nvidia Geforce Drivers - so head over to http://www.geforce.com/ and get downloading!

Once setup and ready to go, right click ARK: Survival Evolved in your steam library and you'll see the option to Launch ARK with NVIDIA Ansel

Select this and head into a single player game, regardless of the map or the mod. Once you're in game, you can immediately press ALT + F2 to get into Ansel Photography mode and start taking snaps.

or you can type in the following command in the console:

cheat enablespectator

Once that is enabled, hit your DELETE key and it'll open the Depth of Field Options menu where you can play around with the games DOF.

Then hit ALT+F2 and take some awesome Ansel photography!

Here's a little tip from Jesse:

You can also type "enablespectator true" in the console to fly around before you take your shot, and hit the "Home" key to level your camera if you want to keep people from feeling sick on a 360 stereo VR screenshot. ;)

This is an award given to Survivors to celebrate the amazing structures you build. These bases are judge based upon a number of different factors such as their creativity, uniqueness, how fun of a base it is, the difficulty of building it, the functionality it provides and much more! At the end of each week, the winners and runner ups will be featured in our #ARKitect section of the Community Crunch and will be awarded cash prizes!

Note: We've had a lot of requests regarding the use of mods - go for it! We'd love to see how mods have influenced your bases

For Official server The Center players, we're giving away $1000 cash, $500 to the first Xbox tribe and another $500 to the first PC tribe to beat both bosses on an Official PVP server.

Screenshot proof of the pause menu in the boss arena including server name, as well as the items received from defeating the bosses must be provided! You can upload your images to our forums, and write a comment down below with the screenshots. Good luck!

This contest will be open for all types of video be they funny, epic, scenic, stories, whatever inspires you. Just a general reminder that they should remain safe for work, think of the children! So send us in your videos and we cannot wait to watch them! We're really interested in seeing the latest video creations you guys have put together - so show us something fresh! :)

Uploading the images

Please upload the images to the gallery section of our New Community Hub - you can create your own album and directly link us to that or attach it to your post! Please remember to post your entry to this thread specifically! If you're not able to upload directly to the gallery, don't sweat as imgur will work fine too!

Will start getting in touch with our latest batch of winners, expect a pm on survivetheark if you're a first time winner! - if you're a repeat winner, don't sweat it'll be handled automatically!

Thanks guys!

Looking forward to seeing the entries!

All the best,

Wildcard Jat

Built on EU Official PvP 191 Server  - Go check it out in person :3   It is set up and designed for visitors.

The location is in the NW beach right before the snow region (should be West 3 Spawn). The video should make it obvious where though. Just look for any of the red colored gates to step through the openings.

-This will remain open house and all access up until about September 16th, after which it may be locked or altered. No doors should be closed, otherwise leave a note in the Youtube comments so I can go fix it.

There weren't many options for a roofing so the penitentiary courtyard style towers on top seemed very appropriate. While not typical in a PD, it needed some rooms and a courtroom seemed like a neat concept to present and fit the theme.

The video starts off during nighttime and is only brief just to show the lighting and everything is lit up.
The full tour begins in the day component.

For #ARKitect
*For the contest, please rely on the video contents as there is a chance some stuff may be destroyed
Ark PD (APD)

35 Screenshots located on my Steam labeled "ARK PD":

**for the purposes of the contest, please view them after the video as I captured everything that I may have missed** I was having a lot of performance decrease from the memory leak bug in patch 264 and made the video right after the patch, so we all were getting lower FPS at the time.

Built with the No No No Gaming Community, I had a request to do anything for them. Considering this is a PvP environment, I created some blueprints and ended up with a Police Department. Given that there are no admin powers or mods, I was quite happy with the result. Thanks to them for getting the requested materials and helping put it together. Hope they have fun with it and it was worth the effort.
Don't break the law or they may stick you in a cell.

Couple Key Features and Notes:
-APD Sign - the "A" is a replication of the A in "ARK" with artifacts in the correct spots and coloring. The "P" and "D" are based on police sirens
--The APD sign also has special dark detailing on the sides and inside to really make it stand out (The sign is my most favorite part of this build)
-Built around the theme of PvP, it was designed to be mostly suitable for such an environment
-My classic comic style coloring throughout, nothing was left unpainted that could be painted.
-Artifact lighting on the roof to simulate police sirens (very visible at night)
-General color theme is to simulate police sirens
-Furniture coloring replicates the other general police color of the black & white theme
-Other small bits to add some extra detail to avoid it looking plain with the limited kit available

Also I won't be building nearly as often now : < . College has started up so there is much less time on top of trying to get through some backlogged Anime & Games. I have only 1 more idea atm to build too so I am trying to get some inspirations from them.

This is our first #ARKitect build! I give you, our Japanese Pagoda build! Hope you all enjoy it! Built by Smokey SRH & Radioactiv3 SRH

I thought it was neat to see someone else make a Pagoda as their first build. A pagoda was also my very first build waaaay back a year ago, Image Link if you are interested in seeing it (Korean Style based off an actual image).

Did you go with a Chinese style? Guessing based off the coloring. If you like some extra tips just ask in a private message.

Ahh yes, the Chinese version. I like that we both used images as references for them

Here was the image I used since we sharing. https://www.google.ca/search?q=korean+pagoda+image&tbm=isch&imgil=1Sv-cmwJPWl7OM%3A%3B8_63jzTqLTFcqM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fatomuniverse.net%252FAU%252Findex.php%253F%252Ftopic%252F805-korean-style-public-space-private-space-clothing%252F&source=iu&pf=m&fir=1Sv-cmwJPWl7OM%3A%2C8_63jzTqLTFcqM%2C_&usg=__73zGyxXQcIlbpqRKVLM12tHO1Gc%3D&biw=1340&bih=643&ved=0ahUKEwjb2bqc3YDPAhUBWWMKHX0GCZcQyjcIOQ&ei=7dnRV5uvGIGyjQP9jKS4CQ#imgrc=1Sv-cmwJPWl7OM%3A

Thinking about Pagodas again makes me wanna re-do the Japanese one from Minecraft into Ark hmmm.

I've got 2 submissions, here's one for ARKVideo showcasing the Scorched Earth map at 4K resolution, at 60 fps and maximum settings

And here is an ARKitect/ARKVideo one of a build battle series with my friend. 40 minutes to build the best castle we could, without any mods or preparantion beforehand. Viewers can vote on who had the better build in the comments!

I hope this serves as some inspiration for others. Building around and with the terrain can make some of the most interesting bases.
