Wildcard Community StudioWildcard Posted March 21 Wildcard Community Posted March 21 You voted, you donated, and now it begins. Thanks to the incredible support shown during our Extra Life charity event, the first Extra Life TLC creature is almost ready to descend from its shadowy lair. The Araneo is evolving into something far more dangerous. No longer content to skitter at ground level, these overgrown spiders have begun claiming the high ground, using web-lines to traverse elevated terrain and drop down on unsuspecting prey with unnerving precision. We can’t wait to share more on what’s in store—but for now, just know that your impact is crawling its way into the ARK. Download in full resolution Species: Araneomorphus amalgotantibus Time: Seemingly Recent Diet: Carnivore Temperament: Opportunistic, Aggressive Lately I’ve noticed a kind of breakthrough evolution in the local population of Araneomorphus. Broodmother's ‘children’ have suddenly exploded in number, and they've also begun using their amazing amalgam of arachnidial abilities in alarming new ways. These overgrown spiders have begun traversing high areas with their web-lines, and rappelling down them to ambush prey. They also shoot their webbing with a newly ruthless precision--a disorienting innovation that restricts their prey's ability to move, attack, and protect itself. Struck enough times, an entangled victim is as good as helpless. Though the Araneo was once considered too small to be a serviceable mount, newer compact saddle designs have turned around opinion. Its narcotic venom turns out to be useful for tranquilizing potential tames. One popular tactic is to drop from above and wrap up a target creature in webbing before subduing them with a venomous bite. Even if a taming attempt fails, your spider-mount can harvest the hardened silk from a downed target for a variety of uses. Araneo silk is an excellent insulator in warm-weather clothing, for example. This weekend, the Official Network will be receiving bonus rates! It will be active until Monday, March 23. nanoStel Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Solidifying both the new and old Araneo as canon, and having both existed on The Island during Helena's time, is such an immaculate detail. More of this, please. 13 1
ChrisBManos Posted March 21 Posted March 21 The design is a bit improved, But the abilities in all are actually kind of insane This spider was definitely in need of TLC big time 2
GatorGamer869 Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Lets fricking go!! I new we were going to get some Araneo news soon and it looks great. Glad to finally see some use out of this littlw guy. 1 1

I also really like that they didn’t just go with Ark 2 Araneo like some people thought, don’t get me wrong it’s a fantastic design, but lore wise that Araneo has adapted to its new home world, this feels like a great design for TLC 3
CTheRain Posted March 21 Posted March 21 😭 We got silk harvesting from the spider before the moth... 1

Ambrose12912 Posted March 21 Posted March 21 This feels like they are hinting at the Araneo starting to change even BEFORE landing on the new planet in ark two, which helps contend with the idea that these animals on the ark are engineered to adapt much faster than our regular form of evolution!!! I love it!! 3

Scribelord Posted March 21 Posted March 21 looking at it more I kinda hope it gets sized up abit, not a whole lot but it’d be icing on the cake

MJAInc Posted March 21 Posted March 21 (edited) Finally. I was imagining these "What Ifs..." since ASE. An exactly like in the description. They learn, crawl up and down on their threads and maybe some more in my mind. But we'll see ow they are now. Thx for that Edited March 21 by MJAInc

Ermerus Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Let me be clear: not only did you do a TLC that doesn't betray the look of the original creature, but you also included the ability to reuse cobwebs? So far, it's a 7.5-8 out of 10, with the hope of raising it once it's released.

Bulborb87 Posted March 21 Posted March 21 It's so nice now seeing the Araneo's massively needed rework, and now it sounds like it's gonna go from a minor nuisance to an actual threat, and giving it utility with it's web's being what sounds like a substitute for fiber is huge and gives you a good reason to go out to grab some 1

More of this, please. Realized the Araneo is becoming more Spider-Like in the original it says it’s a “Nightmarish Amalgamation” of Spider species in the new TLC it’s evolved to be more spider like but still has movie monster features like its mouth and in Ark 2 it’s fully become a Spider 1
shadowacro Posted March 21 Posted March 21 I love how they Turned an useless ugly mob into ...Well still an useless and ugly mob but slightly different 1
Dinoking117 Posted March 21 Posted March 21 (edited) I dont know, if you compare the old and the new they didn't really put much thought in redesigning like the only thing I see different is the eyes placement and the patterns. The same is the weird mouth, the weird spinneret, and the pedipalps and legs are the same. I'm not expecting ark 2 design but that design looks more like a real spider then this spider. But the ability are cool Edited March 21 by Dinoking117 1

But the ability are cool I think it’s a good inbetween point, they got rid of the “pods” on it, they changed the face for the most part, it’s got more pronounced fangs like real spiders, but it’s mouth feels pretty Movie Monster like (it feels kinda like the Spider from Sting) the Ark 2 one feels like it’s finally evolved into a full on Spider with normal Spider parts
