ashgcy
Welcome back sunken survivors! Your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, the Sunken Scoop is back and we've got some amazing things to show! As long as the creature mod has been out on ASA, we've been getting asked one question: where's the map? Well, the map isn't going to be out anytime soon, however we have some beautiful WIP screenshots to show you, taken straight out of the devkit courtesy of drachenfeles! Both drach and Sireoptera have been quitely working away at the map for a very long time, and we've been excitedly watching their progress and waiting for a time in which to show all of you... which is right now! So let's get straight to the punch, read on to find out more about what TSW in ASA will look like! If this is your first time diving into the deep end, the Sunken World project is a dedicated team of individuals who are looking to spruce up the seas in the same way that Scorched Earth offered a unique, biome specific challenge to survival! New creatures, resources, structures, items and more, all set on a huge custom map, we're looking to give ARK's oceans the TLC they deserve! The main goal is to bridge that huge gap between early and late game ocean exploration, and make it much more viable and more fun to live a life beneath the waves. This is unofficial content and is only related to our mod. It is in no way related with the official game and its content releases. Let's dive into the scoop! MAP WIP SCREENSHOTS Okay maybe not straight to the punch, there's some important stuff to discuss first. Most importantly, as is the custom for these scoops, an absolutely MASSIVE hats off and thanks to Sigh and drach! The work these two have been doing for the map has been nothing short of awe inspiring, and it's been absolutely wonderful seeing their skills on display! You may know drach from his other mods, Survival Ambience and Modern Nightvision, which add in a variety of features that make ASA's environments feel much more dynamic and alive... and let's just say he's been giving TSW's environments some really special treatment! The next thing to mention is that all the following screenshots you'll be seeing do not have foliage in them. What that means is that berry bushes, trees and the like have not been placed into them yet, so some places may look a bit more barren than how they'll look in the final product. Being WIPs, this will of course be changed by release, but in case anyone is wondering where all the plants are, that's your answer! So with that out of the way, let's get a look at those biomes, starting with: Pacific Inlets Anyone a fan of rock climbing? Then Pacific Inlets are the place for you! This temperate region of the map will serve as one of many spawnzones to get you started on your journey on TSW! It's most notable for its beautiful seaside cliffs that (sometimes) drop straight into the deep blue sea, and the many channels of water that cut through the towering rock walls! It's relatively safe, but every ecosystem has its predators! Just be careful how you choose to avoid them, jumping to the "safety" of the water below may end with you becoming fish food! The above image shows off the difference between generated and placed sections of terrain. On the left is the plain, generated look of the terrain. When using map creation software, it's very easy to get large details, but smaller details like rock faces and small features will require manual placement! Tropical Islands Perhaps after all that surviving, you need a tropical getaway! Well you've come to the right place! If you're looking for some fun in the sun, come down to the white sand beaches of the Tropical Islands! This place is the perfect spawnzone for those who love taming lots of creatures without building a base (guilty as charged)! You'll be able to find a large variety of creatures here, both above and below the waves, and the coral reefs are simply to die for! No seriously, watch out on those reefs. There's some dangerous predators about! Above is some of the wonderful work that drach has done to make TSW's environments feel more alive! If you look closely at the seafloor, you'll see sandbars all over the place, mimicking how waves continually reshape the coastline over time. And below? That's just a straight up, honest to goodness, awesome coral reef! We're planning on cutting down on the green algae in the final version so those tropical colours can really pop! Volcanic Island Man I lava this place! What a hot tourist destination to travel to! If you're looking for a bit of a challenge, this island is yet another spawnzone! However, predators aren't the main thing to worry about when the environment itself is prone to burst into flame. I don't think SPF 50+ will protect you from a volcanic eruption! The two images here have two different examples of rock formations in the biome. Above is basalt, known for its iconic hexagonal shape, while below has a mix of basalt and rock with wavy patterns. These patterns show up when lava quickly cools! (Bet you weren't expecting rock trivia from the Scoop!) Ice Caps Things getting too heated for you with two hot biomes back to back? Why not cool off! Don't get cold feet about spawning in the Ice Caps, it's the perfect place to chill out! You're sure to find plenty of mammals and warm blooded animals in the freezing waters. Plus, as any ark player knows, you'll definitely want to go to the snow to get some organic polymer! Also, it's an excellent source of ice chunks to power your iceboxes and keep your food from spoiling! (Iceboxes aren't in ASA yet but will be returning in the future) Drach is currently working on improving the snow shaders, so they won't be grey upon release. Extras? Dinobros2000
Oooh epic! The shaders kinda remind me of Geneva in the morning! Really excited to be able to play on a good water map again! Also, THAT ART IS NOT BY BLUE WHALE!!! I MADE THAT!! I lay claim to my poor quality drawing!
