It was a good run.
Thank you everyone for making this one of the most popular creature submissions throughout the map votes.

Common questions I've gotten:

"Is this the last time we'll see the cheetah return for a vote?": Correct, but only from me. I myself am not going to post the cheetah again. After all, it's been in too many creature votes now. But it's not like I own a patent on cheetahs or anything - everyone else can create their own future cheetah submissions if they wish. Just know that it won't have any corelation with me anymore.

"Will you turn your concept into a mod?":
Unlikely. Again, I don't own cheetahs, so other modding teams can make one if they wish. But as for me, I know that there are still some big cheetah fans who want to create their submission of it future votes. I mean, this wasn't even the only cheetah submission created for the Valguero votes, there was another that didn't make it into Top 10. I've noticed that previous popular vote creatures which have become mods have seen significantly less or no appearance in any votes afterwards, and I don't want that to affect the players who still want to be creative with their own cheetah submissions. Besides, if I ever became the art director of a mod, I'd love to create a fantasy creature instead. And furthermore, one of my Extinction submissions already got picked up by a modding team, and I feel like that's enough.

"Are you done with creature votes now?":
Not at all. The wait between the Extinction and Valgeuro votes was long, but it certainly reignited my creativity. I have no idea what map vote will come next, but I'll definitely have something new to submit.

Wild:
A terrestrial predator of extreme agility: Acinonyx pardinensis is completely unmatched in an open field sprint - and yet, it's also capable of performing huge jumps, sharp turns, and can even parkour up canyon walls. It hunts its prey by crippling them with a disorienting strike, and should predatory competitors ever try to steal its kill, it can retaliate by kicking up a blinding cloud of dust.

Domesticated:
Tamed Acinonyx are a favourite companion of the White Cliffs' many tribes due to its strong combat utilities, most notably as a taming assistant. By dizzying prey with its blinding speed, it renders them more susceptible to torpor, which leads to faster knockouts. I've also seen them recharge batteries in the blink of an eye, using a special kinetic backpack that converts speed into charge. And if you just want something that can get you from Point A to B in a flash, the cheetah's got you covered. Of course, it obviously cannot take to the skies like a Pteranodon can, but its incredible speed on land makes... wait a minute. I do remember that one time I saw a survivor fasten a parachute onto an Acinonyx...

Abilities:

New Debuff: Vertigo

image.png.a3bff10f834a5c6dfb4f04927ec33563.png

Creatures affected by Vertigo are slowed and unable to walk straight, wobbling left and right with each step. During which, they will receive three times more torpor than usual, making them easier to knock out.

The Acinonyx is capable of dealing Vertigo. Beware! This incredibly agile feline will take advantage of your dizzied state in combat.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Passive Mechanic: Blitz Boost

image.png.6d07c5b55c948c83277b2e231128db73.png

As the Acinonyx rushes around, it gradually fills its Blitz bar. When the Blitz bar is peaked, the Acinonyx’s next ability becomes Amplified.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

[Mouse1] - Claw Swipe

image.png.a5cdfedda05eeed81cc70b004e764e05.png

Press [Mouse1] to perform an ordinary claw swipe.

Amplified: The swipe lands with a streaking blow, applying Vertigo for a few seconds.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

[Crouch] - Dust Cloud Drift

image.png.c9ba9101f2676e55a66afef33c1d22d4.png

While running, hold [Crouch] to drift across the ground, rotating in the direction of your camera view. Release [Crouch] to transition out of the drift and boost forward. Boosting atop water will allow you to skim over it very briefly.

Amplified: Spark the ground as you drift, kicking up clouds of dirt. The clouds obscure vision, causing enemies to receive blindness and Vertigo for a few seconds. Allies that enter the cloud are concealed in its haze.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(Toggled Ability) [C] - Feline Evasion

MiraVal4.jpg.57f31ec86a4607b53557b145b13d8d49.jpg

Toggle Feline Evasion with [C]. While Feline Evasion is active, the Acinonyx will automatically dodge the next incoming attack with perfect reaction time, invulnerably somersaulting, rolling, or sliding past the attack while simultaneously attempting to strike back at the aggressor. Once used, this ability undergoes a very long cooldown.

Feline Evasion doesn’t go on cooldown if triggered by an enemy with Vertigo.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

[Spacebar] - Wall Jumper

image.png.abd4dfefbdd4d7d97fc87b6a32488997.png

By jumping on a wall while sprinting, the Acinonyx will wall-run for a few seconds before sliding off from gravity.

Amplified: Gain the ability to perform a massive jump while wall running. The jump can be used to attach to yet another wall, allowing you to parkour across the cliffs.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

[Radial Menu Interaction] - Sit

You are able to make the Acinonyx sit. This has no gameplay purpose - it just looks cool.

Acinonyx Saddle:

The Acinonyx’s Saddle is capable of holstering one of four available attachments:

Tranquilizer Turret      Lasso Launcher      Battery Backpack      Parachute Pulley

mirasaddle.jpg.bf9168362d94611f5e0aef5f186967d4.jpg

The Tranquilizer Turret is a controllable ballista that fires arrows. If tranquilizer arrows are loaded, the ballista autonomously fires at Vertigo-affected targets.

The Lasso Launcher hurls a lasso with pinpoint accuracy. Small targets snagged by the lasso can be dragged around. Run and collide them into rocks, trees, and walls for big damage. Players with good aim can launch the lasso to yank enemy riders off their mounts - Take ‘em on a real ride!

The Battery Backpack utilizes static electricity generated by the Acinonyx’s fur brushing against the grass to hastily refill charge batteries in its inventory during a sprint.

The Parachute Pulley allows the Acinonyx to use parachutes.

Taming Process

The Acinonyx would love to eat prime meat - if it could. Born with a fast but fragile build, it sticks to hunting relatively small prey for its whole life.

Walk up to a Acinonyx and toss down some prime meat, and it’ll devour it. As it develops a trust towards you, it’ll eventually allow itself to be temporarily ridden. This is your chance to show it that it’s stronger than it thinks.

While riding the Acinonyx, you’ll need to kill creatures that drop prime meat. For every piece of prime meat harvested, the taming bar will go up.

Get damaged too often, and it’ll kick you off. But should you be skilful at hunting dangerous game, the Acinonyx will be yours.

  • Shockal changed the title to [Last Resubmission] The Prehistoric Cheetah!

The master list of compiled previous cheetah abilities from former submissions in case this creature should win and any Devs would want to take inspiration from previous iterations the fans also loved:

ABILITY MASTER LIST

{Key: Acinonyx-originally-based abilities are in italics and Miracinonyx-originally-based abilities are in bold and regular text comes from the new add-ins}

**DISCLAIMER: All special abilities have a cooldown unless otherwise indicated**

Maneuverability

  • Can perform 90 degree turn without slowing

  • Incredibly thin hitbox helping it to slip past rocks and trees and can run right over small ledges and stones without being tripped up

  • {Can offer it to be able to strafe while running?}

  • A decent jump

  • Can climb upwards, but first, it needs to build up a good amount of acceleration. Back up a bit to prep some speed, then zoom forwards and rush up the cliff face before you lose your momentum to gravity!

  • If at top speed sprint , you will skim across the surface of the water, initiating a momentum drop until at last your speed stacks are gone and you will splash into the water. Cannot be used to cover great distances, only short ones.

Speed

  • The normal holding-shift run speed is faster than even the gallimimus.

  • Straight forward holding shift runs fast and drains stamina at normal rate. Can perform sprint {crouch button?} while running for even greater speed boost dash at the high cost of stamina drain.

  • Alternatively, Hold down [Mouse2] while running to gradually build up extra speed. The cheetah will reach its Maximum Speed after a few seconds, provided it does not bump into any objects during so.

Attacks

  • Sweep The Leg: Trip attack! Can be used while running or sprinting using the LMB. This attack does minor damage and acts like a bolas on any animal able to normally be bolased{or under a certain drag weight}, immobilizing them for a shorter time than the true bolas by knocking them over. Does not cause you to lose speed performing this attack.

  • Stumble Swipe: Can be used while sprinting using the RMB this swipe will use the force of your momentum to disorient the target dealing moderate damage and causing the target to reorient facing a random new direction and applying a few second slow, if striking an enemy player/rider-and-mount, will apply the “microraptor dizzy effect” to the screen. The more speed, the more potent this strike is. Failing to strike the target when attempting this attack will eliminate your built-up momentum.

  • Alternatively, Press [Mouse1] to perform an ordinary claw swipe. If at “Maximum Speed”: The cheetah swipes with a disorienting impact, immobilizing its target for a few seconds. Targets with higher drag weight aren’t affected as much.

  • Rider can use weapons and tools from the back of the cat.

Defenses

  • Toggle Cat Senses with [Crouch{or X button?}]. While Cat Senses are active, the cheetah becomes super-aware, and will automatically dodge the next attack it receives within the next few seconds. Cat Senses will dodge any kind of single-damage attack, be it a Microraptor ambush, a Sniper Rifle shot, or a Titanosaur stomp. Upon usage, this ability goes on a very long cooldown. Maximum Speed: The cheetah will attack whatever it dodges through at melee range.

  • Dust Cloud: initiated while sprinting , this will trail a visual barrier cloud of dust behind you as you dash. Any creature passing into/through the cloud will be slowed and visually impaired like the chalicotherium mud ball attack “blinding” them for a few seconds.

  • Alternatively, DUST DRIFT: While running, hold [Crouch] to skid across the ground and cause large clouds of dirt to kick up into the air, blinding the vision of its foes. If this ability is used atop a river or ocean, you’ll skim across the water’s surface for a few seconds before losing momentum and sinking. Maximum Speed: The dirt cloud becomes a fire trail instead due to the sheer friction. Water-skimming will also go further.

  • Alternatively, Can let go of the button for forward momentum and hold a strafe button to have the cat turn in an arc to sweep the dust cloud into a larger arc and will lose momentum once the “u-turn” is completed.

Other utilities

  • Can cuddle for temporary insulation buff. No cooldown, just need to cuddle again when buff wears off.

  • Pairbond bred cubs to bred direwolves for “pack boost” imprint to one another granting the cheetah added melee damage and the wolf added speed. Always active once bonded and within range of one another. Stacks with imprint bonus for the riders and mate boost bonuses (as well as any pack bonus for the direwolves).

  • Can leave scent mark trails that you, other allied cheetah and direwolves, can follow. No cooldown to place them, but the scent marks can wear off after a set duration.

  • Can be told to sit and/or lay down from the radial menu. Doing so could just be cosmetic or could potentially give the cheetah a faster stamina or food stat recovery rate or a temporary stamina “boost” for the next time it is taken out for a run.

  • New item: Racing Markers! Just like we got lances introduced when we got the Equus, what if we got a new item “racing markers” that could be set as “starting line, finish line, and checkpoint” so we could make race tracks across the map and introduce a fun new, more official way to create a race for fun with your tribe!

Primitive Saddle

  • Can craft a Tether in its inventory that is used to immobilize larger targets. Must make multiple laps around the creature to fully immobilize it, the larger the target the more tethers may be required. No cooldown, just requires having tethers crafted in inventory. Tethers also have durability so larger creatures may break them if you’re not quick enough. Make sure to craft multiples!

  • Alternatively, launching the tether-and-hook at a target, you can then drag them along as you run. Collide them into rocks, trees, and walls to damage them as they’re being haplessly dragged across the ground.

  • Alternatively, Tether potentially used to drag enemy players off of the back of their mounts from a distance, to then drag behind you colliding into ground clutter for extra damage.

  • Can toggle from a radial menu to activate an auto-pick-up for dropped bags simply passing over them. No cooldown, just toggled on or off.

  • Can drop explosives like C4 and grenades as well as traps from off the back of the saddle while on the run. Traps would be auto-activated or at least activate quicker.

  • Has emitter equipped on saddle that can add particles to the regular dust cloud so long as they are in inventory: Element dust = “emp” that disrupts electronics/robots; sparkpowder = flares that temporarily disrupt targeting systems of auto-turrets and rpgs; gunpowder = trail of explosive bursts behind you; propellent = trail of fire behind you; sulfur/congealed gas balls = trail of noxious fumes causing poison damage; Narcotics = trail sleep gas behind you causing torpor to enemies crossing into/through it

Tek Saddle

  • Grants increased speed and stamina.

  • Dust clouds become trails of holographic barriers, and require Element as fuel. Barriers persist for a brief duration. If an enemy makes contact with a barrier, it will zap them for moderate damage and disable their TEK. (at cost of element from inventory)

  • Can create after images of itself that can confuse enemies, drawing aggro to them. (at cost of element from inventory). Alternatively, Dust Drift will create illusory after-images of the cheetah, making it even harder to track.

  • Can traverse across water–walk across not just run!

  • Sprint breaks through rocks and trees with ease.

  • Can slow the cat’s fall causing minimal or no fall damage (at cost of element from inventory)

  • Can extend “wings” to glide while holding the jump button down just like terror bird (at cost of element from inventory)

  • {If we don’t include the strafe earlier, we had it here for strafe in any direction like a tapejara}

  • Speed Swipe has increased range and can arc through multiple enemies.

Taming Process

  • Cubs = Cheetah cubs are found hiding in bushes or tight corners in the wild, shy of everything that wanders by. Players must approach carefully and repeatedly feed it meat to gain its trust. But beware, for if it were to be startled, its nearby parents will immediately attack anything responsible for startling it. If you do manage to tame it, the baby will be imprinted to you, and must be raised from there on. But even when in the safety of human care, the baby cheetah remains an incredibly nervous creature. You won't be able to complete the imprinting process by yourself. In order to give your cheetah the full enrichment it deserves, pair it with a "companion dog" (Like a Direwolf, Ravager, or other similarly-sized creature). Much like how real cheetahs are raised in captivity, this companion will help you get the full imprint potential out of your baby.

  • Adults = Remove all threats in the area (mainly aggressive or carnivorous creatures) Kill a creature and drag it out in the open and lie in wait (Ghillie armor works best!) The Giant Cheetah will come out and feed on the carcass, similar to a Fjordhawk. The more bites the more progress it makes! Will flee if another predator approaches.

*Raising babies from tamed cheetah, will initiate the ability to pairbond to a direwolf pup raised at the same time for the added “pack boosts”.

...and it’s gotten a huge redesign compared to its last iteration.
The water-running and high DPS abilities it had in its Center vote submission are scrapped.
Now, it’s an explorational utility mount aiming to provide assistance in a variety of different situations.

Kickstart your journey into the open landscape of Valguero with this incredibly fast land mount!

(When mention it returns for "one more time", I specify it is from me. I've posted Miracinonyx/acinonyx in five different votes now. That's a bunch! So after this, I will drop it. Others can still post my ideas though.)
