Introducing Desmatosuchus to Valguero! This strange herbivore will help get rid of any aerial threats, speed up taming and help produce crops! Desmatosuchus can be obtained at level 40, and has 3 saddles that are unlocked at different levels.
(Concept sheet by Djaymasi!)
- Desmato’s basic saddle is unlocked at level 40, with no special attributes. Desmato’s second saddle is an anti-flyer missile saddle, unlocked at level 70. And lastly, Desmato has a TEK railgun saddle when you beat Valgueros bosses at alpha difficulty. Details on these saddles are further in the submission!
- Desmato has an AOE passive buff when tamed called “Gourmands Feast!” which drains the hunger of any wild creature you are taming 15% faster! It also helps taming effectiveness when using lower quality foods, such as regular berries on a herbivore.
- Desmato can till soil and make dirt mounds which act like large crop plots! So you won’t have to use resources on making more crop plots. Dirt mound specific information is later in the submission!
- It has a damage reduction of 35%, and if anything attacks its tail specifically, it will deal recoil damage. It is weaker to explosives however!
- Much like a purlovia or basilisk, Desmatosuchus can burrow into the ground.
- Stego sized.
Taming method:
Desmatosuchus can be found in the tundra, jungle and chalk cliffs. When you find one, make sure it is buried in the ground, and find its snout which will be sticking out. From there, you will have to present either a mejoberry, a vegetable, or honey to attract its attention, of which it will sniff and consume what you present it. After that, it will unbury and you have to passively feed it, however much like a moschops it will want different things, ranging from any berry to any vegetable or honey (it will not request kibble and will not request the same item twice.). It does not matter on the food quality of what it wants, as it will give the same effectiveness, the quantity does affect it however, with a bigger stack giving more taming percentage. After that, congratulations! You have successfully tamed a Desmatosuchus!
Saddles:
Basic saddle: Unlocked at level 40, does not do anything special and is crafted in a smithy.
Anti-flyer saddle: Unlocked at level 70 and requires a fabricator to make. This saddle gives Desmatosuchus two missile launchers on its sides, each missile launch can fire off 5 missiles at a time, for a total of ten if both are fired all at once. They can be used on regular creatures/structures, but will do less damage than a regular rocket. However, if used on a flyer, or something that can go airborne such as a managarmr or rock drake, it will do bonus damage and has the perk of following the creature when fired. You can control the amount of missiles launched at a time, either only 1, 5, or all 10 at once, missiles are not reloaded instantly however. Missiles have to be crafted separately in the fabricator, which are unlocked at level 70 as well.

TEK Railgun saddle: Unlocked when beating the bosses at alpha difficulty and requires a TEK replicator to make. Using element shards as ammo (100 per round), the TEK railgun saddle has 2 distinct modes and allows Desmatosuchus to use thermal vision. Comes with an adjustable scope like a sniper rifle as well.
- Ghost mode: This will do less damage, but allows Desmato to ignore structures when firing off a round! Has a cool-down of 15 seconds.
- Charged mode: For this you will have to hold down the attack for maximum damage output, this does the most damage at once and can be aimed while charging, this also ignores armor. Has a cooldown of 25 seconds from overheating.
Dirt mound information:
Dirt mounds are primarily a PvE function for Desmatosuchus. Essentially, dirt mounds act like large crop plots with what you can put in it, however, there are both downsides and upsides to it:
Pros: - If done near water, it will not need an irrigation system as it will automatically irrigate itself with the water nearby. Has to be at least within a foundations distance from the water.
- Does not cost resources to make.
Cons:
- Cannot be made on foundations.
Dirt mounds are created by holding left-trigger (controller) or LMB (mouse) to “till soil” while on a Desmatosuchus.
