Scutosaurus- The Taming Tame!

Thnderchiken1

Suggestion

This is a real prehistoric animal that I thought would be cool to have in ark.

Potential abilities include: stomp that does AOE, a bite, a roar that temporally makes nearby tames immune to debuffs such as bleed, and due to the scutosaurus being heavily armored it could be immune to all debuffs such as bleed permanently. Is able to harvest berries but not meat.

Habitat: swamp and or grasslands

Herbivore

Neutral in the wild and travel alone or in small packs of 2 or 3.

Mid-high speed but high stam drain and cant jump.

Taming: simple knock out but it as high torp and low torp drain, then feed it berries, vegetables, and or regular kibble.

When harvested gives hide, meat, and high chance to give prime meat.

Great Idea. One complaint, however. You hinted at it maybe having a low stamina, or high stamina usage, but this would make players reluctant to ride on one like the Allo. Maybe having it have decent stamina and having its gas attack waste a lot of stamina would make it versatile as a stocky traveling mount? Just an Idea though.

Scutosaurus karpinskii is a shield lizard from the Upper Permian that was about the size of a human and were native to swamps. Their armor was tipped with thorns and helped to protect them from great harm. It is also believed that they were relative good swimmers, but that isn't quite clear.

Scutosaurus fed on plant life and would have a docile temperament. Rare flowers would be particularly effective in taming. The taming is identical to those of trikes, stegos etc. They would also be rideable. Their stats are, for the most part, rather balanced. Their health however, would be exceptionally high.

Abilities when tamed:
Scutosaurus have a particularly great benefit in a group. Their defense enriches nearby tamed creatures with a defense buff about 30%. This would be a great advanatge in boss fights or hunts for very strong creatures. Outside the mate bonus however, the buffs can not be stacked, because then it would be too overpowered.

Additionally, Scutosaurus have five toes with long and powerful claws that they used for digging. In Ark, Scutosaurus would have a particularly high yield of berries with the claws if you farm them from bushes.

Not only that, Scutosaurus have a highly developed eardrum, which in Ark would ensure that they would be protected from the screams from the Yutyrannus.

Thus, the Scutosaurus would be a pretty flexible creature that could be of great use in many situations and i think it would be pretty cool to have something like that in Ark. If you have any other suggestions that would fit the Scutosaurus, i would love to hear about them.
Thanks for reading!

The Scutosaurus could be found in dense forests or the deserts and is an herbivore. To tame the Scutosaurus you have to knock them out, but since they are in a herd it would be hard to knock them out without having the others agro you. They could be tamed with berries and kibble. This Permian creature would be hard to tame and also be hard to knock out due to its hard shell. If you tame a Scutosaurus you would be able to be protected by the hard shell, but the Scutosaurus is very slow. If you tame more than one, there would be a herd buff where the other members of the herd would be able to follow you and attack creatures with a buff to their health and damage.

Scutosaurus - The Tame for Taming

Scutosaurus means “shield lizard” but ark has so many tanky guys for combat. Scutosaurus should be a tame perfectly engineered to make taming easier.

I imagine Scutosaurus as the first tame that is really viable to use to knock out other dinosaurs effectively. Scutosaurus may have had an expansive digestive system, Arks Scutosaurus could “ferment” narcoberries it gathers and be able to release a narcotic gas that causes a decent amount of torpor damage in a small radius around the dino. It would probably take a good amount of narcoberries to charge the attack because Scutosaurus was always eating.

Scutosaurus is beefy, as his name implies, so he can withstand a wild dino wailing on him while he knocks them out. His back and neck are super armored with plate-like-bones under his skin so he should get a damage reduction when hit in these areas.

When your tame gets high on torpor and starts to run away, Scutosaurus isn’t great over long distances due to his stocky body but he can get a good burst of speed out before his stamina drains.

Scutosaurus’s saddle contains a mortar and pestle, so taming is even easier when you bring this guy along. He’s especially good at collecting narcoberries because they are his favorite thing to eat.

Scutosaurus could even play a role in pvp if his digestion mechanic is expanded on!

  • Stimulant gas to wake your allies up when an enemy Scutosaurus has put them to sleep.

  • Feed him sweet vegetable cakes and he will release a healing gas. Be careful! This gas could also heal your enemies. Also good if your tame gets attacked mid knockout!

Taming a Scutosaurus:

You can’t just knock out the king of knock-outs! Scutosaurus requires a special taming method. When Scutosaurus has emptied the contents of its stomach, it will start an animation and the player will be prompted to feed it an item from a changing list of cooked foods.

Players will have to agitate the creature, be close enough to trigger a gas cloud release, feed it, and then back off while Scutosaurus regains its toxic fumes. Bring Stimulants in case you or your tribe get hit!
