Thalassodromeus sethi lived in present day Brazil about 100 million years ago. It had a LARGE bony crest that was speculated to serve as a large thermoregulator, and brilliant display for mating. Thalassodromeus was first thought to be a skim feeder but that idea was largely dismissed and has since been speculated that it hunted like a stork wading through the marshes and swallowed its prey whole.
In ARK we see the Thalassodromeus living in swampy areas. Here they feast on their favorite prey, leeches. Its crest is flashy and easily scares away most swamp dwelling creatures, except for the occasional sarco, to which they just relocate if they are unfortunate enough to be caught out alone. To Thalassodromeus's credit, they often wander in packs or 3 to 5 and are not timid to encroaching hostile prey and will attack it relentlessly. They get a boost of morale and confidence when together in groups and will defend their nests ferociously. You can steal an egg at great risk, but trespasser beware.
Taming process: To tame the Thalassodromeus one either has to brave stealing an egg or approach it with its favorite food; not in hand, but rather, stuck.. to you. However, it can sense disease leaches so it will attack the sick on sight. Thalassodromeus will then "pick" the leech off of you and begin to gain your affection. This peck does come with some damage, so bing some healing. Also, ghillie is a must.
Tamed Thalssodromeus: Mountable
The Thalassodromeus offers quite an array of abilities to the ARK's Tribes. Once tamed, the thermoregulations of the crest offer great thermal protection versus all of the ARK's climates. Thalassodromeus is also a great hunter of leeches, its favorite food, gathering heaps of leech blood in the process. Their flashy crests scare away most small creatures from attacking it, even the cunning thylacoleo thinks twice. They serve as decently fast mounts matching Pteranodon speeds and have a pack boost from an alpha. Once boosted the Thalassodromeus gains a speed boost and a diving attack with its large bony crest that slices its targets and produces a bleed. Beware though, if you miss you target, you may get stuck in the ground... for a few seconds. The Thalassodromeus can swallow small prey whole.
