Purussaurus

BelguimWaffles17

Suggestion

Ark needs more crocodilians, the sarco and Kapro just aren’t strong enough. The Purussaurus will be a deadly Semi Aquatic Dino that will be incredibly cool and powerful

About Purussaurus

Purussaurus Could be the semi aquatic Rex, while be slower than the Rex it’s just as powerful or maybe more powerful and able to swim. This should be an amazing rival For our beloved Rex. A strong swimmer to make exploring the water or land easier.

I’m Game Appearence and habitat

I believe that our Purussaurus friend should be bigger than a sarco, Purussaurus also didn’t have as much as a pointy mouth as a sarcosuchus, their mouths were more round. The swamps in ARK are kinda boring and this Dino will make a whole new reason to go to the swamp and have some fun.24459FDC-F526-4A89-9C05-C07415789B0D.jpeg.6bc0073576e1ca4ba350e170b7ac3064.jpeg

Abilitys

Obviously the Purussaurus is to big to do a death roll, instead Purussaurus should be able to grab creatures and very slowly drain their health as they are stuck in its mouth. You can also put them into a mode called “basking” where they would take 2 times more damage but heal 1.5 times faster while laying down to soak up the sun, its bite should slow down their target allowing the Purussaurus to catch its prey with its slow body.

Taming

The taming method of the Purussaurus could be tedious yet interesting one, You must be  level 85 to tame it(sorry beach bobs) and the Purussaurus would have to destroy structures you place down to tame it  higher the tier structure means more percentage tamed, if you use low quality buildings like thatch or wood you could lose taming effectiveness,  This method of taming may be time consuming but it will definitely be worth it in the end.

Purussaurus brasiliensis was the largest crocodile that ever inhabited our planet. Known as the Rio Purus lizard, this giant that could reach 12 meters in length lived in South America, in the Amazon rainforest, and had an even stronger bite than that of a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

The most complete fossil ever found of the species is now in the paleontology laboratory of the Federal University of Acre (Ufac), responsible for publishing a scientific article on the subject in 2021.

Purussaurus is one of the largest known of the giant crocodilians, perhaps even surpassing Sarcosuchus in size. It reigned supreme in central South America in the Miocene period, 8 million years ago. Like most of the other known crocodilian/crocodylimorph species, Purussaurus would have easily been capable of tackling large prey. Purussaurus is also noted by its sheer; immense bite force and size.

As the monster caiman of the Miocene, Purussaurus had a very stout, robust head that included large, sharp teeth suited for gripping and holding onto struggling prey. This giant is known from skull material found in throughout north-central South America. The skull material, and fossils suggest that this monster bit down with an estimated force similar to that of Sarcosuchus, perforating muscle and bone, and shattering internal structures. Much like today's crocodilian ambush predators, its thought that the Purussaurus hunted while skulking around in lakes, swamps, ponds, and waited for prey to come and take a drink. It might've used the twist and roll method that many crocs and alligators use today, often twisting bones and organs into a mess, killing the prey subject in a matter of seconds.

Size

Based on the largest complete skull, Purussaurus was estimated at 10.3 meters (34 feet) with a total estimated mass of 5.69 tons. A more optimistic estimate in 2014 yields a total length of 12.5 meters (41 feet) with a weight of 9.3 tons. These proportions were consulted with negation however; and it is more likely Purussaurus would only reach 10.9 meters (36 feet) with a weight of 6.2 tons.A mandible described in 1967 from Juruá River has a length of 175 cm. Based on this specimen maximum sizes were 'superficially' estimated between 11 - 13 meters (36 - 43 feet) in length. As only skulls have been found, the exact size remains unknown, although rib structures and the rest of the body has been thought to be a similar upscaled structure of today's caimans, and crocodilians.

Purussaurus is one of the last of the giant, extinct crocodiles. As a large caiman, its skull is much more robust than the other giant crocodiles. Though other crocodilians have obtained greater or equal sizes, as they are Deinosuchus, Sarcosuchus, Gryposuchus, Mourasuchus, Rhamphosuchus, and Stomatosuchus, all being vicious predators armed with rampaging maws.

Tired of mostly new fantasy creatures? Want a creature that's not only good but not overpowered or truly meta changing? Well this might be the submission for you!

History
Introducing the Purussaurus, an extinct genus of giant caiman that lived in the Miocene epoch(Around 8 million years ago) in South America. It was 13 meters in length and weighed in at about 8.5 tons(But this is ARK these measurements are bound to get exaggerated).

How To Tame? + List Of Abilities

Now what about the Purussaurus in-game? The Purussaurus is a travel/support mount that will spawn near or in large bodies of water (Beaches, rivers that lead to an open body of water, lakes and the outskirts of swamps). The Purussaurus would be tamed similarly to the Noglin or Tusoteuthis by feeding it alive tames. The Purussaurus will have a normal LMB bite attack, a water buff(Simmilar to the Spinosaurus), deathroll, lunge and the ability to carry medium to small creatures.

Deathroll

The deathroll will be an alt attack to the normal bite. Simmilar to the Sarcosuchus it will fix an enemy or creature in place with a bonus bleed effect for 6.5 seconds. In the water it will provide a stun effect like the Baryonyx.

Water Buff

The water buff will make it 50% faster 10% more damage and 2% more bleed damage. Along with this it will last for 10 seconds outside of water.

Lunge

Despite the large size of the Purussaurus it has a small lunge attack that launches it only a tiny bit forward and anything grabbed in its jaws will have a broken bone and bleed debuff as well as being trapped in its jaws. The lunge attack's reach is greatly increased in water up to double.

Carry

The carry ability will allow the rider to carry any human or human sized equivalent creature in the Purussauruses mouth. In this state the Purussaurus cannot attack until the person or creature is spit out or got out of its mouth. If the Purussaurus travels underwater while it has something in its mouth the thing in its mouth will get 3 minutes of undepletable oxygen.

Estimated Stats(lvl 1)

Hp: 1100

Stamina: 1200

Oxygen: Infinite

Food: 3000

Weight: 880

Melee: 61 DPS

Movement Speed: 130%(Survivor equivalent)

Torpor: 1550

While these are subject to change if it does come in game this is what we believe would be its rough stats.

Temperament: agressif

Period: Miocene

Purussaurus crocodilian family a small crocodile that lived in the Miocene epoch a swamp predator that stays stealthy underwater and attacks its victim has its reach in it jumps disappointed and eats it those who made it a large predator tides in terms of taming it will be necessary to sow the crocodile with tranquilizer arrows and give it meat to eat or its favorite food the regular kibble

Creature Submission-Purussaurus

Information on the Real Life Creature

Purussaurus was a genus of large, now extinct caiman, which lived in South America during the Miocene. Its fossils have been discovered in formations such as Colombian Villavieja Formation and Panamanian Culebra Formation. Its weight is estimated at 5-8 tons and length at around 10 meters, making it one of the largest, if not the largest, crocodilians ever. When Alive, Purussaurus was an apex predator in its ecosystem, mainly swamps and rivers as it needed the water to support its massive weight, control its temperature and ambush prey from.

Why I Think it Should be Added to the Game

Ark has long been missing a good freshwater apex predator. The spinosaurus, while useful and powerful once tamed and a personal favorite of mine, is riddled with issues as a threatening wild apex, such as its relatively low base health, tendency to run away at low health, and low aggro radius. The purussaurus fills this niche as well as giving a truly powerful creature to the swamps of the ark. In addition, the game currently does not have any large crocodilians fit for late game, which again, is a niche purussaurus would fill. In the game purussaurus would act as a 'gatekeeper creature', more powerful in sheer stats than other top predators, but with more obvious counter-play and still being much weaker than giga-tier creatures.

The design/in game data

Dossier Text

image.png.d61cd62104343c1a07ea94109b861dc4.png

Name: Purussaurus Tyrannaxilla, from Tyrannus, meaning tyrant, and Maxilla, meaning jaws, referring to purussaurus's main weapon being its powerful jaws.

Diet: carnivore

Period: Miocene

Temperament: aggressive

Dossier-Wild: Purussaurus Tyrannaxilla is a titanic crocodilian, most resembling an alligator or caiman, that inhabits swamps and rivers. Unlike sarcosuchus and kaprosuchus, which focus more on speed and control on small prey, purussaurus uses its sheer bite force to crush the bones and organs of both its prey and competition alike. In fact, its skull and bite force are so powerful, purussaurus can grab and immobilize even creatures nearing its size before slowly crushing the life out of them. Purussaurus is not particularly quick, but its powerful legs, at least compared to other crocodilians, allow it to quickly break free from most methods of control, and additional air sacs attached to its lungs give purussaurus good stamina recovery and the ability to stay underwater for longer. It even stores some oxygen in a separate air sac as a backup, which a clever survivor may be able to utilize once they tame this semi aquatic titan.

Dossier-tamed: Purussaurus cannot be tamed with conventional methods, instead, just like its hunting methods, its taming process requires more brute force. If immobilized in some way, a quick-handed survivor may be able to shove some food into its jaws as the purussaurus tries to bite, without being crushed to a pulp. Once tamed, purussaurus is nearly a perfect battle mount aside from its mediocre land mobility. Its enormous stature allows it to tank otherwise debilitating attacks and retaliate with crippling attacks of its own. In addition, purussaurus's teeth, specially adapted for crushing and puncturing, allow it to nullify or break through almost all natural or man-made armor!

Spawn Details

Purussaurus spawns on The Island, Aberration, Genesis Part 1 and all free dlc maps, specifically spawning in rivers and swamps on the island and the free maps, in the blue zone waters on aberration with an aberrant variant, and the bog biome on genesis, with an X variant, all quite rarely.

Wild Behavior

Wild purussaurus will attack any nearby creatures and survivors with an aggression radius roughly similar to that of the carnotaurus, using all damaging attacks in battle, and is not attacked by other creatures intentionally.

Base Stats&Other Basic Information

Health: 1200

Stamina: 450

Oxygen: 700 (high growth)

Food: 3000

Weight: 600

Melee damage: 100% (wild)/175%(tamed)

Movement speed: on land, purussaurus moves with speed roughly equivalent to 70% of the rex's movement speed, and in water it moves at about 1/2 the speed of the mosasaurus.

Torpor: 8000

Size: Purussaurus is similar to spinosaurus in length

Drag weight: 550

Variant-Aberrant Purussaurus: the aberrant purussaurus has glowing spots scattered among its scales and is immune to radiation.

Variant-X purussaurus: the X-purussaurus has the same changes as any other X creature. It has faintly glowing patterns along its tail and side, with mainly blues, greens, browns and purples for colors.

The Purussaurus can breed, its egg hatching at a relatively low temperature with a hatch time roughly 1.3x that of spinosaurus.

Purussaurus eggs can be made into exceptional kibble.

Taming

To tame a purussaurus, the player needs to bait the purussaurus to bite a large bear trap, which snaps onto the purussaurus's jaws, rendering it unable to bite. This is based on the fact that the muscles used to open crocodilian jaws are relatively weak.  Then, the player needs to hit the purussaurus once on each side with chain bolas. This fully immobilizes the creature, at which point the survivor can walk up to its mouth and press e to remove the bear trap, causing the purussaurus to repeatedly bite as it tries to attack the survivor. Now, approach its mouth and press e to feed food from the 0 slot. While the purussaurus eats, it stops attacking for 5 minutes and there is a 15 seconds cooldown between feeds.

Taming foods: Exceptional kibble>mutton>prime fish meat>prime meat>fish meat>raw meat

At default rates, a level 120 purussaurus needs 16 kibble to tame, a level 150 needs 20, and a level 300 needs 30.

Related engram-purussaurus saddle: the default saddle for the purussaurus can be learned at level 75 and crafted at a smithy for 500 hide, 400 fiber, 180 cementing paste, 120 silica pearls and 100 metal ingots. This saddle has 2 seats.

Related engram-purussaurus oxygen extraction saddle: This alternative saddle for the purussaurus can be crafted can be crafted at a fabricator for one purussaurus saddle, 300 polymer, 80 obsidian, 100 metal ingots and 200 silica pearls. This saddle has a special contraption to extract oxygen from purussaurus's backup oxygen and channel it to the rider, meaning the rider consumes oxygen from that stat underwater instead of their own, much like when riding a diplocaulus. This saddle inherits the armor from the saddle used to craft it.

Attacks

Left mouse button-bite: Purussaurus bites at the target, dealing 65 base damage with an attack speed slightly faster than that of the rex's bite attack. This attack shreds armor.

Right mouse button-thrash: Purussaurus thrashes around for 4 seconds, damaging anything around it by smacking them with its head, side and tail. Anything hit takes 20 base damage and is knocked back a large amount. When this attack is used, purussaurus frees itself from any control such as chain bolas, grabs or stego immobilization.

X (water surface only)-head bash:  The purussaurus raises its head above the water and becomes immobile. Then, if X is hit again, it dives forward in the direction of the camera a short distance. Anything hit will take 40 base damage and be stunned for 15 seconds if its drag weight is below 350. This attack is based on the similar behavior of black caimans irl as purussaurus is closely related to modern day caimans.

C-Tyrannical Crush: Hold C for 5 seconds to charge the attack, then release to unleash it. Purussaurus opens it jaws extremely wide as it charges, then crunches down with full force. This attack deals 95 base damage and inflicts the 'heavily crippled' debuff (detailed below). If the creature hit has below 450 drag weight, it will be grabbed in the purussaurus's jaws, unable to attack or move. If the creature hit has 450-900 drag weight, both it and the purussaurus will be immobilized if neither side is swimming, while purussaurus's stamina is quickly drained. When grabbing or immobilizing, purussaurus can use lmb to bit down on the held creatures for 50 base damage with relatively low attack speed or use C again to release the target. In addition, the grabbing or immobilizing can be toggled in the radial wheel.

Note: to make it more balanced, wild purussaurus do not grab or immobilize with this attack.

Effect-heavily crippled: the afflicted creature takes 30% extra damage and has its speed reduced by 45%

Passive Abilities

Powerful Legs: Purussaurus has relatively muscular legs for a crocodilian, meaning it takes 50% less knockback and has the duration of any speed lowering effects lowered by 50%

Armor Crusher: Purussaurus ignores 50% if all natural armor (reaper, dunkleosteus, etc)

This ability and the mechanics of the biting attacks come from the fact that purussaurus's teeth, jaws and skull are sturdy, built for impact with bone and used to penetrate the flesh of and hold down prey.

Air sacs: Purussaurus has auxiliary air sacs attached to its lungs to more effectively process oxygen. This means it's oxygen and stamina recover extremely quickly. In addition, purussaurus stores an amount of oxygen equal to 1/2 of its maximum main oxygen stat in a separate air sac. (this would likely be a separate stat in game), which is what is pulled from with the purussaurus oxygen extraction saddle. If the purussaurus's main oxygen stat runs out, it instantly recovers oxygen equal to 1/2 of the backup oxygen, quickly regenerates health and stamina for 10 seconds and stops providing oxygen to the rider.

This ability comes from the fact that crocodilians in real life have structures in their lungs called dorsobronchi used to better process oxygen.

Closing Remarks

Hello reader, hopefully you've found my design good enough to drop a vote on it, and if you have any questions or concerns feel free to leave them in the comments. I'm quite proud of this design out of my collection of them (I make creature concepts as a casual hobby) and picked it because it was the most based on reality and fit into the base game the best, without being too boring. Regardless of the results, I feel honored to participate in such an event at all and have enjoyed the process of fine-tuning and writing out purussaurus's design to hopefully be added to the game in some form. Thanks for reading :)
