Arctotherium : The biggest bear to ever live.

Ancient Mitochondrial DNA Reveals Convergent Evolution of Giant Bears in the Americas | Sci.News

I present Arctotherium Angustidens the South American equivalent to the dire bear.

These hulking beast migrated to South America form North America when the bridge between them was formed in the Pliocene Epoch

Arctotherium unlike the dire bear would be a pvp focused creature as well as niche pve mechanic

There main ability would be focused on rare flowers. Arctotherium would normally be docile and mind there own business. Until they come in contact with Rare flowers which they will consume. By them doing this it admits the same pheromone as the survivor does when they eat rare flowers. This provokes wild and enemy tames (king of like a fear roar (so ridden mounts too). Arctotherium while effected by the rare flower buff gets a multiplier buff on all damage output. Leading to devastation to anything that comes in their way. But there is a drawback, all this fighting tuckers out arctotherium making it more susceptible to tranqs and narcotics. This is also the way you tame arctotherium. Arctotherium could have the unlike ability to harvest keratin unlike any other animal on the ark.

Any ways I would like to thank you if you read this entry, it really means a lot.

I think having a bear with a useful pvp mechanic would be pretty nice since dire bear isn't really used a lot.

Things I would like to see added (if this does)

(Two standing modes : Like the spino ( higher damage output when standing / higher running speed when on all 4s )

(A protective saddle : maybe like a baby sling with extra protection )

(Sexual dimorphism such as patterns if they wish)

(When bipedal close to mammoth size)

The Artcotherium is the largest know species of bear to date. It was found in the continents of North and South America from 2 million to 500000 years ago. I think it would be the perfect next creature for ark as it is very cool and useful for gathering wood.

Location

This giant prehistoric bear will be found in almost every biome as it was a species that traveled lots and wasn’t discriminatory when it came to choosing territory. However due to the size of the creature and how strong it is it will be a rarer find on par with a Giga or a Carchar.

Domestication

It will be tamed the normal way of knocking it out before entering its inventory to feed it any meat of the players choosing. Once tamed you will need a saddle to ride it then, it allows you to harvest wood and honey very well.

Abilities

Like the dire bear, when sprinting the Artotherium will gain speed. It will be able to attack with its claws and teeth as well as being able to do a low roar/growl ability that scares away small creatures. It will also have the Parasaur radar detection ability, allowing you to be aware of dangers in the environment. It will have similar stats to the Giga but a bit lower.

I think your Arctotherium is missing it's own Unique abilities tbh most of them are just taken from other creatures like the parasaur I like the idea of it being rare though

Habitat: Cold biomes, Tundra

Diet: Carnivore

Temperament: Aggressive

Taming: The larger and more vicious relative of the dire bear, as tall as a chalicotherium, their tough skin and thick fur negate any form of torpor injection, however survivors have discovered that if narcotics are consumed by the arctotherium, its torpor will rise. After killing any large creature, the arctotherium will let out an ear-splitting roar, opening its mouth, survivors must take this chance to cautiously approach it and passively feed it narcotics, do this process repeatedly until the bear is finally knocked out, put food in its inventory and wait to tame

Abilities: Unlike the appearance of the real-life arctotherium, the creature resembles the huge war bears ridden by the Vikings in the animated series Primal by Genndy Tartakovsky. Used by tribes as a creature of war, it has powerful attacks, such as a bone shattering bite and a swift claw swipe attack, perfect for boss fights. It has a special customizable tribal war-like saddle, multiple saddle variants that have flags, spikes, etc., can be crafted in the creature's inventory. The creature's warm fur protects from the cold, it also possesses a thunderous roar used in battle to buff allied creatures, like modern day grizzly bears who can rip off metal car doors, the arctotherium can do so on a much larger scale, it will lunge and clamp onto metal structures and rip them clean off.

species: Arctotherium

Time: Pleistocene

Diet: Omnivore

Temperament: Aggressive

Wild
Found in most cold environments and Forests Arctotherium is the largest Mammalian predator on the island it dwarfs it's smaller cousin the Dire Bear and rivals creatures like the Stegosaurus in terms of size using it's massive bulk to bring down large prey even for it's size though Arctotherium has immense Strength as it's able to wrestle with creatures far larger than itself I even saw one pin a Mammoth to the ground using it's massive arms. Arctotherium also has incredibly durable claws they are easily able to pierce through Tree's and even Stone allowing Arctotherium to use it's claws like Climbing picks to scale the tallest mountains or even to harvest tree's and raw meat.  Arctotherium also has developed an incredible adaptation it has an incredibly thick layer of fat that mitigates most damage and helps to keep it warm along with it's highly valuable pelt.

Domesticated
Taming an Arctotherium is no easy task as they refuse to submit to nearly any sort of taming so far the only method I have found is to steal them from their mothers as Cubs and feed them honey then the baby bear will slowly grow attached to you but be careful mother bear will follow you to the ends of the earth to get her cub back and will be in a rabid frenzy until she gets it back. once tamed Arctotherium is an incredibly versatile mount able to serve as a powerful offensive tame using it's bulk to pin enemy mounts to the ground like some sort of wrestler and able to switch stances from quadruped to biped so it can use those deadly claws Arctotherium also has a frenzy state that it can go into in this state the bear becomes much more aggressive and deals far more damage and heals at a rapid rate. Arctotherium can also be used a useful harvesting mount as it can gather a larger amount of berries and even collect honey like it's Dire bear cousin but unlike the Dire bear it has far more dexterity and precision with it's claws allowing you to access the rare Royal Jelly inside. I have even seen other survivors create special saddles for this bear with Armor covering the beasts entire body giving it massively increased durability

Abilities
Can pin creatures to the ground using it's massive arms sort of like a wrestler

Can Climb surfaces using it's claws like climbing picks

Can switch from Quadruped to biped

has a frenzy mode where it's eyes glow red and it starts to deal massively increased damage and begins to heal this state can only be reached if the bear takes a large amount of damage and lasts 5 minutes

Can harvest Bee hives and collect honeycomb and Royal jelly from them unlike the dire bear

Has a roar

has a saddle that covers the bear with armor similar to the Ice bears in his dark materials this gives it a massive boost to it's durability but lowers it's overall movement speed

can be ridden without a saddle

Keeps you warm if you stand next to it

special pelt can be harvested from a dead arctotherium and be used as either a bearskin rug or worn as a special pelt that gives an insane amount of warmth

Taming Method

Find an arctotherium Cub in the wild and take it away from it's mother feed it honey and it will start to tame but be warned Mama bear will stop at nothing to get her cub back and will follow you to the ends of the earth
