Fjordur Maps for PVP Is Unplayable due to building areas on Smalls

PVP is supposed to be an overall balanced area for other players to have fun playing.. But this issue with what we are facing on the new map Fjordur, created by Nekatus is that we are unable to farm the key source to ascend from the primitive stages while other tribes keep it to themselves. Certain tribes had this planned out and because a huge majority was unaware of the severity of it, their are tribes who lock the areas that we need the most to become bigger.
The charge node cave being the ONLY cave with the ONLY charge node is ridiculous and it prevented a lot of players from getting element to the point they had to get Ele Gachas.

Later on Ark gave the only thing they thought would help with this and that would be world bosses finally element, but the element it would give is 30.

Now let me remind those who are reading this post about how bad this is in comparison.

Their is a 1 hour cool down to run a world boss individually, their are also 3 world bosses which give 30 ele each. Tribes could farm these areas for 90 element TOTAL within an hour..

While it seems like it is a lot, it really isn't and the relics these bosses give mean nothing for late game when tribes are holding off the charge node cave preventing those to even fighting the fenrir boss ( Charge Node cave holds the Megapithecus terminal) The Element other tribes have to grind out to even remotely keep up is disgusting. Why are we subjected  to 90 Element an hour when this ONE tribe who is hoarding it off with capped Tek turrets effortlessly is pulling over 30k element a day? The analogy to put this in perspective is like this whole server has to walk 10 miles each day, while the person whos holding off the element has a car and can drive there in 10 minutes.. It's not fair and it's not fun. A lot of tribes have quit because it is unfair and ruined the chances of a lot of tribes having more fun with the map due to it being a ONE tribe ownership.

Please fix this

This is why there trying ark 2 they broke the first one and dont have a clue how to fix it...

Now there making a totally differant game and calling it ark 2. I'll honestly be happy when im done with wc. and they stop support for ark 1. since extinction dropped the game has gone so far down hill. its a sand box not a survival game

This is why they should have never allowed cave building in the first place. It was the same issue with artifacts for years before they added Crystal Isles.

Also the whole meta of no above ground bases, only cave bases are viable, is complete trash. Sadly, the game has been balanced around cave pvp for years and so much would have to be changed and removed to even come close to fixing it. Hopefully they learned that lesson for Ark 2.

The fact of the matter is one tribe dominates all new maps on Official PvP. Megas fully explore mod maps before they release as official. They find all the rat holes, all the mesh spots, all the best base locations. They've already demo'd everything out and have a game plan weeks or months in advance. The numbers for what they will be doing with that map and who gets ownership of what server is figured out before you see the first preview video.

It doesn't even matter if the base locations are not actually all that great for defense. 1 bob or small collection of friends simply doesn't stand a chance against the 40+ people a Mega may send to that new map to dominate it. Even if you have equal access to resources. You don't have the same man power or 24h online presence. If they really want you off their server, you will be muscled out. Plain and simple.

It's fine really. The only thing these maps are actually good for in the first few months while transfers are still closed on officials is getting the new creatures and porting them out for breeding or getting the new items. It's still stupid bob fun as long as transfers remain closed. Many of those big tribe's are not even planning to hang around after transfers open with a lot of new maps. Because very few maps actually have base spots that are high enough quality to be actually defensible against a real raid. You have spots like ice crouch on the island and bear crouch on the center. Spots that are strong enough that short of an inside or a good mesh with bad timing for the defenders can have even an independent alpha (Or at least one who may as well be when allies don't come to defense) hold out in excess of 30 days against a mega (I've seen it happen first hand).

If a map has such a spot. It's claimed from day one. It was never going to be something a bob could build their shack in. If it doesn't have an alpha spot then all that can be gotten out of a map will be until transfers open and the map dominators will kick rocks anyway. That's exactly what happened with Lost Island. It has two decent base locations. But they simply are not true alpha spots. It's more of a bob paradise now than it was during closed transfers.

If you really want them to balance PvP. Demand they remake all the maps to not have mesh holes to begin with. Maybe take actual full advantage of the colladea format and import physical shape hulls for terrain. Because this anti-mesh detection is massively flawed to where it punishes innocent players unfairly with no real recourse. And it has never really stopped any bases from getting meshed. It was the laziest solution to the actual problem. Maybe demand Dev accountability and transparency. There are pocket devs in this game that make more playing the game than they get paid to develop it because they strait up work for the biggest tribes. How about actually fix duping? There's so many more things that could be addressed in way PvP balance that take orders of magnitude higher priority over doing something about resource access for bobs that won't even help them do anything but ultimately further full the growth of dominant tribes when they are wiped despite having that resource access.

As for what PvP is "supposed to be". There isn't any such thing. It is what it is. Which is get without getting gotten as much as possible. The meta will always determine how PvP actually works regardless of how the devs want it to work by design. Because there are a lot more players than there are devs. Which makes for a lot more opportunities for exploits, best practices, work arounds and more that the devs never even considered to be found and used to the extreme.

The remedy to this gripe fixes nothing. It just makes a few bobs feel better in the moment and suffer even more loss later on. If one thinks this is important to PvP. Then they don't actually understand the first thing about PvP. Their just trying to PvE on PvP which never works out.

So even if they changed all the stuff you listed:

  • Fix duping
  • Fix anti-mesh
  • Remove map holes

Those large tribes with more resources will still dominate. Your statement will always be true.

@Joebl0w13 They will be less dominant by virtue of fixing those. The biggest tribes operate at the top levels of their administration more like businesses and less like a collection of friends. Duped items are sold for real world money. Duped items fuel there ability to actually throw endless resources at taking someone down. There's tribe owners that pay their IRL bills playing this game. People in their tribes who are let into that top echlon inner circle are paid money to build. Paid money to PvP. Paid to be runners for RWT deals. Some Devs are paid to look the other way or rule in their favor when called in. It's the part most don't see. It's how the game actually works. It's primarily fueled by duping and facilitated by meshing. You kill that off, and a good chunk of the most exploitative players will leave the game overnight for greener pastures.

The thing is if they actually fixed any of it instead of doing the bare minimum to show they were making an effort. The official PvP sector of the game might well collapse overnight. A lot of base game and map sales are from dirty money. People who are in it setting up alt accounts for allied doors, stealth PvP, degrees of separation with rule breaking activities etc. The game probably even couldn't afford to operate without MTX if this were not the case. The black market in the game props up the game to some degree.

But yes, it will always be true that those who have the power of numbers will do the best for themselves. Even without duping, meshing, and pocket devs. Even if we got some actual moderation on officials.  The Pareto Principle/Law of the Vital Few still applies (for many outcomes roughly 80% of the consequences come from %20 of the causes). That's just universal ratio law. We see it inn everything. Power tends to accrue as does disadvantage. The more powerful one is the more powerful they will tend to be in the future. The more disadvantaged one is the more disadvantage they will likely be in the future. There is nothing in this universe you can do to stop that. Because the universe tends towards entropy on average.

But balancing PvP is not making everything fair and equitable. It's making it so that you can PvP even at a low level if you learn the system well enough.  Balance is about helping the competent be more effective while not giving the incompetent too great of an advantage if they only have the right items. If you don't know how to use a mana and you're just sitting around force feeding it on a beach because you forgot to bring an owl. Then you see some little naked screw ball parachuting toward you and they have a wooden shield and a fan tailed birb on their shoulder or an odd shaped fruit in their hand... You better run. Because that naked is about to take your cap flak and kit other wise. Then kill your mana with your own kit (if their smart they'll leave you knocked and dosed so you can't report your exact coords and can't respawn and come back with a vengeance before they get to upload). That's balance. Leveling the playing field so that in most encounters competence is the deciding factor.

It doesn't matter how many people you bring to harass a crouch. If you're bad at it the only way your going to make headway is by meshing. And that's what those who are bad at it or lazy about it do. That's how most well held crouch caves actually get taken (in addition to insiding). Dirty tactics by players who are not good enough to do it legit. Or even by those who are good but realize there's no point when an easier path exists.

You take away the exploits and you get rid of the worst offenders in the process. Either because they quit or they can't manage without the exploits. which means you in turn level the competency field and make it slightly more about being good and less about being OP. Making the game more balanced (actual balance) is worth it even though you can never make it fully balanced. But doing something about these resource access issues does not lean in the direction of leveling the competency field. All it does is make the bases that the people with more active players raid richer claps and give them resources with even less work than before.

There is no such thing as less dominant. It literally means the most powerful.

They will always be that way. It's the way the game is designed.

It would be nice to have all the exploits removed. Not sure if that's even a reality. It's the very nature of computers/programming/IT. If you can do it, someone else will undo it.

Calling for 'balance' in a true sandbox game is just silly. It's impossible. Real life is a true sandbox. We all have rules and laws to abide by. Along comes bob and murders someone and steals his stuff. There is no balance, not even in reality. Criminals are commonly never caught or brought to justice. The only place to find the kind of balance people want to see here is in very structured and simple game like chess or pong.

@Joebl0w13 The thing is we don't need all exploits removed. We need the biggest most detrimental ones removed for it to be a better game. However it might be a better game that no one plays through doing that for how long entrenched and now key to the profitability of the game these exploits have become. If the devs were actually interested in doing the hard but worthy thing. Ark 2 would just be Ark 1 fixed. One massive patch that reduces the unnecessarily bloated file size, gets rid of the bugs and exploits, updates the graphics, and more by re-writing the game from the ground up to not be barely functional spaghetti code. While I am against doing anything about the resource access. I'm sure they will latch onto that as an easy placation rather than actually do the hard thing.

It appears they intend on making Ark 2 a completely different game. With dinos in it. Time will tell, I guess.
