Community Crunch 318: Fjordur Launch Details, Happy Pride Month, and More!

Welcome to another edition of the Community Crunch!

On June 12th at 10:00 AM PDT, get ready to traverse a fantastical multi-layered wonderland with a frosty Nordic theme!  We've put together all the details that will prepare you for the launch of the free DLC map, Fjordur!

• All Platforms: June 12th, 2022 10:00AM PDT (5:00PM UTC)

• PC / EGS: ~20GB
• XBOX: ~40GB
• PS4: TBD

• Character Upload/Download is enabled
• Item/Dino Upload is enabled
• Item/Dino Download is disabled  

• Please ensure to uninstall the Fjordur mod from the Steam Workshop prior to downloading Fjordur (if you already have the mod installed)

• Map Name: Fjordur
• Please ensure to wipe any servers that were previously hosting the Fjordur map as it has undergone significant changes that will impact the world.

 

In addition to Fenrir, a creature that's native to the original Fjordur mod, Fjordur will launch with 3 brand new creatures!  Will you look to tame the mobile tank first, seek out a helpful Fjordhawk companion, or stalk the night's sky to hunt your prey?

Andrewsarchus makes its way to Fjordur packing an arsenal of utility!  Andrewsarchus may seem sluggish while foraging for a meal, but they can move unexpectedly fast when provoked. Once tamed, its saddle will allow you to mount a minigun to the back of it!

As you might imagine, Desmodus prefers to hang out in dark places, waiting for its unsuspecting prey!  If you're lucky enough to tame one,  you can send Desmodus to snatch up small prey or saddle up and vanish into the darkness.

Looking to dive right into the action, Fjordhawk can forge close bonds with humans as wholeheartedly as any canine or primate.  A tamed Fjordhawk is a surprisingly playful companion that is very capable of fetching targets that you point out. A well-trained Fjordhawk can locate injured prey and communicate its find to you.

Acting as a functional weapon skin for the TEK sword, Mjolnir packs its own special powers and empowers Survivors with supernatural might. Devastate your foes with shocking ease as you exercise control over the element of lightning. However, not every survivor will pass the test and be considered worthy to obtain the mighty Mjolnir. Will you be up to the challenge?

Every year, during the month of June, the LGBTQ+ community celebrates Pride Month in a number of different ways. Across the globe, various events are held as a way of recognising the influence LGBTQ+ people have had around the world and the struggles faced. Why was June chosen? Because it is when the Stonewall Riots took place, way back in 1969. Pride Month is important because it marks the start of change within the LGBTQ+ community, along with wider societal implications. 

Studio Wildcard stands in support of the LGBTQ+ community and we would like to make an addition to the ARK: Survival Evolved Official Discord with inclusion of an opt-in role for our LGBTQ+ community members and allies.

We continue to work towards creating an ARK community where all LGBTQ+ people are included, where everyone is free to play as their authentic selves and enjoy a space that supports self-expression. It is more important than ever to recognize that systems of inequity based on gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, disability, and other forms of discrimination intersect and ultimately affect us all. 

We also support organizations that are driving change for issues that impact LGBTQ+ communities and, as such, we have made a donation to the Ali Forney Centre.Their mission is to protect LGBTQ+ youths from the harms of homelessness and empower them with the tools needed to live independently. AFC’s Founder, Carl Siciliano was named a White House Champion of Change by Barack Obama.

When ark was still fairly new me and my mom made a world and since we had just got the game we knew nothing about the game. So me and my mom made a thatch hut and a campfire then went out and tamed a LOT of dodos. We didnt know what tribes were so we werent in a tribe. Then I hit her character one time because she wouldnt give me berries and our dodo armys started fighting each other. In the end only like 3 of the 20 dodos survived.

The summer event doesn't start till the end of June, beginning of July, It's been that way with all 3 of the Summer Bash events.

Hopefully it isn't gutted like CI was. Losing out on crystal griffins and an alternative spot for rock drakes still kinda rubs me the wrong way, at this point the only reason I still keep it on my server cluster is because it's aesthetically pleasing and an easy means of acquiring wyverns for newer players.

Can you guys please update unicorns to have actual color zones? We want our rainbow-colored unicorns

Also, can you put the breeding cooldown timer on the pod UI, or at least some sort of indicator that a podded female tame is on cooldown? It's always aggravating to be unpodding lines of creatures to breed only to find that they're still on cooldown, because there's no way to tell without unpodding. On that note, can you add an indicator to the taming UI that a passive tame is ready to be fed again? The first bite takes forever to wear off so they can be fed again; it'd be nice to be able to tell, even it it's something as simple as the icon blinking/flashing to indicate the creature is hungry again

You know you can take paint and paint the horn yourself right? At least I think you can.

I play singleplayer and I tried putting -activeevent=ark7th in my steam launch options, as well as trying both -activeevent=ark7th and just ark7th in the singleplayer active event box at the bottom of the advanced tab, and the event is not working. What am I doing wrong?

This. I want my black unicorn so I can stunt on people. If it weren't for the fact this this is ark 1's last hurrah I'd be campaigning for Pegasii to be added as well. Kinda struck me as weird we that have unicorns but not the other mythical equine

Stop saying for "all" platforms please, its only for 3 platforms, Nintendo Switch gets none of this, not even the event specials. We just now started being included in these evolution events just since Christmas 2021. We get nothing but rates, all these special colors and support for LGBTQ community is completely lost on Nintendo Switch, Zero, support on that platform. Our servers run like crap, game just stutters all day long, simple tasks take hours to complete. So, lets keep it real shall we, you are only supporting 3 platforms with your statements and only those LGBTQ communities, you more than made your feelings clear about us on Nintendo Switch with all the exclusion over the past 3 years.

Nintendo Switch is getting completely reworked with a new Ark launch in September. There's no development on the current version. If they've made their feelings clear then they clearly showed they wanted a better Switch product and decided to bring you a new one with all the DLCs.

Is that what PR told you to write back? Have you played our version? Have you read the same sales pitch from 3 years ago they made to us on Switch? Have you been neglected on your system and left out of everything for past three years? Did Wild Card fail to support your version? Are you getting the LGBTQ colors for your tames on your version? Yeh, sure, guess that'd be my attitude towards it to I guess. It's a sales pitch, advertisement, using the LGBTQ community's logo...and colors, years now, while excluding members of that community. That seem right to you?
