Suggestion

I'm quite new to the forums, so I though I would take all of my creature concepts into one topic for everyone to see. I understand if you choose not to read all of this, as it consists of only text and some google images, but I appreciate it if you do decide to take the time to check these ideas out! Before I begin, I have a few questions you all can answer once you've checked out the creatures.

- Are these ideas any good?

- Which one is your favorite?

- What creature should I give a concept for next?

- Which ones would you like to see in the game?

- What creature should I submit for the next upcoming vote?

Now that the questions are out of the way, here are all of my full-fledged ARK creature concepts!

(note, the attack buttons are what they would be on Xbox, since that is my main way of playing the game. Here are the translations from Xbox to PC: RT=Left Click. LT=Right Click. RS=C. A=Spacebar)

ACANTHOSTEGA

HA9wt3ahmVOEdNplcEVNQncdoY6-EqhBDsswZ0N_IiZiqfONDCJjmm1_z6c4TK2XpWssSxHjXwG6nEOegYdDKLbesAI0UxLh5nf6zs7cNviMQIeNcLZauK4q30eSm1nnxYcHtKpg=s0

Wild:

Acanthostega plays a unique role in the ARK’s swamp ecosystems. Acanthostega primarily eat leeches, so they help remove the parasites from larger animals. Because of this, Acanthostega aren’t hunted, as keeping one around could save a predator’s life. When a predator does decide to attack one, Acanthostega have slippery skin that allows them to break free from a grab and gives Acanthostega enough time to retreat to the water.

Domesticated:

Very popular among amphibian lovers, Acanthostega will travel with its owner on their shoulder and aid them in their adventures, from the densest swamps to the driest deserts. Acanthostega can always aid in removing those pesky parasites, eating them and obtaining their precious resources. Acanthostega seem to always be coated in moisture, making a survivor holding one very difficult to grab, as well as keeping the person or their dinos relatively hydrated.

Wild:

Andrewsarchus is the largest predatory land mammal ever, and reaches about 4 meters in length. However, the Andrewsarchus found on the ARK are similar in size to the woolly rhinos. Andrewsarchus has tough, hardened hide similar to its modern relative, the Hippo. Andrewsarchus uses its tough skin and large size to tackle prey to the ground before crushing the victim’s skull with its powerful jaws. When live food becomes scarce, Andrewsarchus will resort to scavenging or herbivory. They normally reside in warm, flat areas, such as grasslands, savannahs, and deserts.

Domesticated:

Andrewsarchus may perhaps be the strongest mammal a survivor can acquire, only rivaled by the giants such as Paraceratherium. Its massive weight can cripple foes, and its bite gives the dinosaurs a run for their money. Andrewsarchus are also experts at harvesting materials from its prey, such as bones and organic polymer. Their strong sense of smell and scavenging instincts make them one of the only creatures capable of finding underground loot left from supply drops or fallen survivors.

Oxygen: 350

Weight: 675

Melee: 60 (bite, mid-low attack speed) 70 (non-charged tackle)

Speed: 1100 (base running), 1700 (full charge)

Attacks:

- RT/LC: Bite. Inflicts the Andrewsarchus Wound debuff for 30 seconds. This debuff prevents - - health and stamina regeneration, as well as preventing the target from jumping.

- LT/RC: Tackle. If the attack does not hit a target, Andrewsarchus will fall to the ground. It takes 3 seconds for Andrewsarchus to get back up. If the move hits, it will inflict the Crippled effect for 30 seconds. They will not be able to run or jump, and will do 33% less damage. The base damage and time to get up after falling both increase with the charge attack, both trippling when at full charge.

- RS/C: Loot/Corpse Scent. Andrewsarchus can search for supply drops and dead players that have despawned up to 2 hours ago. Using this ability on top of a despawned supply drop or player will give 50% of their items, chosen randomly.

Found: Grasslands, Savannahs, Deserts

Maps: All but Aberration

Taming Method: You must kill yourself with its preferred food in your inventory. Andrewsarchus will add the food to its inventory and start passively taming (Andrewsarchus will ONLY take the food, nothing else). However, Andrewsarchus will require a lot of food to tame.

BRONTOTHERIUM

Wild:

Brontotherium is a large rhinoceros-like horse relative, and the ones found on the ARK are massive, surpassing almost every mammal in size, only smaller than the Woolly Mammoth and Paraceratherium. Brontotherium live in warmer climates and don’t need fur, but they have extremely tough skin to protect themselves from the few predators they have. Brontotherium will not attack unless provoked, in which case Brontotherium will charge and send their foe flying. Brontotherium’s odd-looking horn seems to be made of a different material than the rest of its skeleton, but this doesn’t seem to have an important purpose in the wild.

Domesticated:

Brontotherium’s horn seems to have a very strange use of its horn. Brontotherium’s horn acts somewhat like a lightning rod, but the electricity is stored. Tribes have used Lightning Wyverns to charge Brontotherium’s horn, and have Brontotherium ram into other bases with electrically charged attacks. Aside from this ability, Brontotherium exells in transportation and brute-force combat, ramming through anything in its path, including trees.

CARCHARODONTOSAURUS

EYqzq2r-Xc1c_MFrNSpM69ZW_ZQoxNJZsVNJlmF5v_N9ePKzfLsF51gcKMlN4UXzFQX2gRzkUZMHtH_GpHuIyk3s_r39euAOwxkpQ987gcrWAHNyWLRYqZab_FpwtfPMd3gvjrF4=s0

Wild: Carcharodontosaurus is a fearsome predator and a rival of Tyrannosaurus, Spinosaurus, and Yutyrannus. While the four of these apex predators don’t meet often, they usually only battle for superiority or simply for competition, and would rather hunt together than each other. Carcharodontosaurus, however, are highly aggressive towards humans, and could kill you faster than you could say its name. This is because of its razor sharp teeth capable of slicing through flesh and armor, which makes prey vulnerable to other attacks. This bite combined with the brute force of a Tyrannosaurus makes for a devastating hunting duo. Carcharodontosaurus usually attack sauropods, ripping huge chunks of their flesh out and eating them alive.

Tamed: Carcharodontosaurus may not be as fast as Spinosaurus, strong as Tyrannosaurus, or as bulky as Yutyrannus, but it can hold its own in each of these fairly well, making Carcharodontosaurus a very balanced multipurpose tame. Carcharodontosaurus also functions as an anti-tank, hindering defenses and ripping through larger foes.

Wild:

Deinotherium is another large prehistoric elephant just like the Woolly Mammoth. Unlike the mammoth, Deinotherium is hairless and lives in much warmer climates. Deinotherium’s most prominent feature is its downward facing tusks used to strip leaves off of trees. Deinotherium are slightly larger than the mammoth, but much faster.

Tamed:

There wasn’t much that Deinotherium could do that the mammoth couldn’t, so survivors started getting creative. Deinotherium are now commonly given different kinds of armor and weapons, and act as living tanks. These weapons and armors give Deinotherium many different uses in combat while keeping their impressive speed and power.

Wild:

The Elephant Bird lives up to its name, and is by bar the largest bird on the Ark. This giant reaches Carnotaurus sizes, excluding its long neck. Though giant, these birds are harmless as long as they aren’t attacked, and are strictly herbivorous. When one is provoked however, they will sprint at the foe and take them down using powerful kicking attacks.

Tamed:

Elephant birds are nice multipurpose mounts to have, and excel at transportation, combat and gathering. Elephant Birds can be taught to collect a specific resource from plants, and they will pluck only those specific resources out. Elephant Birds can also run for very long distances and can fight off a large portion of the ARK’s predators.

Wild:

Falcarius is a smaller relative of Therizinosaurus, both found in similar areas. Despite being quite small, medium-sized predators choose not to fight it in fear of its large claws, used to swipe at foes or food. Falcarius seems to not be detected by motion-tracking devices. The reason why is unknown, and further research must be done.

Domesticated:

Survivors have taken advantage of this creature’s ability and use these creatures as scouts for searching other player’s bases, bypassing their turrets and using its size and agility to weave in and out of danger without being caught.

Wild:

Gigantoraptor is a large relative of the Oviraptor, and like the Oviraptor, this creature also eats eggs. Unlike Oviraptor, Gigantoraptor aren’t limited to eating eggs, and will also eat fruits and small animals. However Gigantoraptor find eggs as their favorites, and will steal eggs from other animals without second thought. Gigantoraptor have adapted to steal as many eggs as possible, either being too big or too fast for a foe to retrieve the egg back. Gigantoraptor may be skilled at stealing and eating eggs, but they are also great at raising their young, providing them food, teaching them to steal, and protecting them.

Domesticated:

Gigantoraptor are commonly used among survivors for their egg stealing and raising abilities. Gigantoraptor can raise eggs using different methods to affect the baby once hatched. This can be very useful for tribes who like to breed for stronger creatures.

Wild:

Hatzegopteryx is described as the tyrant of the skies, and rivals even the mythical wyverns in terms of power. Hatzegopteryx bully smaller animals to death, and most often target Carnotaurus and Quetzalcoatlus. This often causes fights between Hatzegopteryx and the Yutyrannus that have their minions killed. Their hunting method usually involves impaling the skull of its prey and flying off with the corpse.

Domesticated:

Those that accomplish the feat of taming this tyrant have the right to call themselves the masters of the skies. Hatzegopteryx can destroy most opposing flyers with melee combat alone. Survivors have even added a mountable turret on Hatzegopteryx’s underside, capable of shooting a variety of projectiles, all exclusive to Hatzegopteryx’s saddle.

Wild: Helicoprion have dominated the ARK’s ocean surfaces. They are capable of outswimming any prey in their habitat, and split their prey in half with their single row of teeth. Helicoprion hunt in groups to take down large prey, such as Leedsichthys. However, Helicoprion struggle to survive when young, as they have many predators and have trouble eating. If it weren’t for this, Helicoprion would’ve been too widespread and would hunt much of the ARK’s ocean inhabitants to extinction.

Domesticated: Helicoprion have proven to be very useful tames, aiding in hunting and transportation. With their speed and devastating bite, nearly any foe will have difficulty taking on these hunters. Survivors have taught these creatures that using their heads can function as a secondary weapon, lunging forward to knock enemies right off their own mounts.

Wild:

Inostrancevia are quite odd creatures. They are similar in mass to Dire Bears, but have the power and resilience to prey on large herbivores such as Diplodocus and Paraceratherium. This particular species of Inostrancevia is quite intelligent, and grows bonds with its friends, family, and mate. When a close member of an Inostrancevia dies, it will become extremely aggressive and will stop at nothing to get its revenge.

Domesticated:

While Inostrancevia aren’t known for their speed, they are persistent and powerful combat mounts, using their powerful jaws and limbs to take down and shred large foes. Inostranvevia will even avenge their fellow owners and tames, turning Inostrancevia from an intelligent hunter to a homicidal weapon in the heat of combat. Some rather cruel tribes will sacrifice Dodos during combat and let Inostrancevia go wild.

Wild:

Koolasuchus is a giant carnivorous salamander, reaching similar lengths to even Sarcosuchus. These swamp dwellers consume their prey whole after thrashing and ripping them apart. Koolasuchus have a unique method of self defense where they use their food as projectiles, launching balls of flesh at foes.

Tamed:

Koolasuchus are very fast in water and are very much capable of defending themselves, so they are quite useful as an overall aquatic mount. Koolasuchus also use their sharp claws and slippery skin to slide around on land at impressive speeds, making Koolasuchus a usable land mount as well. They make for great mobile turrets, swallowing foes whole and launching their victim’s innards at other opponents.

Breeding: Yes

Egg: Can only be hatched in water

Poop: Medium

Size: Large

Diet: Carnivore

Group: Amphibian

Temperament: Aggressive

Bossfight Entering: Yes

Stats (lvl 1 tamed):

Health: 400

Stamina: 200

Oxygen: Infinite

Weight: 450

Melee: 30

Speed: 1200 (1550 in water)

Attacks:

- RT/LC: Bite

- LT/RC: Grab. 100 base damage for the first hit. If this attack oneshots the foe, they will instantly be swallowed whole. If the attack doesn’t kill, Koolasushus will start thrashing while still grabbing the foe, dealing 5 base damage each 0.5 seconds for 10 seconds, after which Koolasuchus will let go. A player or mounted creature can also press the primary attack button 10 times to get out of the grab. If the thrash brings the foe to a health that would kill with the first hit, they will be swallowed. Any resources harvested from a swallowed creature will bring those items into a secondary inventory (more info on that in Abilities). This attack has a 1 minute cooldown for each creature it’s used on. Works on anything smaller than a Thyla. Harvesting a dead corpse with this attack will add the resources to the second inventory.

- RS/C: Flesh Ball Shot. Koolasuchus will spit out Flesh Balls and deal 50 base damage (may increase depending on the type of Flesh Ball). Flesh Balls can be made in the secondary inventory.

- A/Spacebar: Puke. Removes all non-Flesh Ball items from the secondary inventory

Abilities:

- Secondary Inventory. Items can be obtained in this inventory by swallowing other creatures whole. Items cannot be transferred to this inventory. The only way to remove items from this inventory is Puking.

- Flesh Ball Projectiles. There are different kinds of flesh balls that can be used as ammo for the spit attack. All of them cost 50 Raw Meat and 25 of another item, which gives a new effect to the attack. Here are the secondary items used in making Flesh Balls, and the extra effects they give:

Spoiled Meat: Causes Flesh Balls to deal large amounts of torpor.

Keratin: Flesh Balls will do 75 base damage instead of 50.

Chitin: Flesh Balls will do 65 base damage instead of 50. Shooting a Megatherium (both foe and ally) will give it the Bug Killer effect.

Oil: Causes a 10 second slow effect.

Pelt: Flesh Balls will do 40 base damage, but will have greatly increased knockback

Fish Meat: Flesh Balls will shoot much faster. Shooting a Baryonyx will heal it rather than damaging it.

Organic Polymer: Flesh Balls will have much less distance, but does 100 base damage.

If an item isn’t Raw Meat or any of the previously listed items is obtained by swallowing, the item will go into the normal inventory rather than the second one.

Taming Method: Let Koolasuchus swallow a creature with narcotic items whole to increase torpor.

LAMBEOSAURUS

Wild: Lambeosaurus is a large hadrosaur, and much bigger than Parasaurolophus. Lambeosaurus have adapted to many of the ARK’s predatory threats, using a roar that disorients pack coordination, encouragement, and other abilities used by opposing creatures. Their herds are very watchful and attack at the slightest aggression towards them. Lambeosaurus use their magnificent crests for mating and combat, ramming into rivals and predators.

Tamed: Lambeosaurus makes for a fast and powerful mount, nullifying foes of powerful effects to give your side the advantage. Survivors residing on the Genesis spaceship have discovered that Lambeosaurus’ skin repels electricity as a defense mechanism against Shadowmane. This makes Lambeosaurus a common mount to deal with the ever popular Shadowmane, as well as other electric-based attacks.

MEGALODON (seperate from the old Megalodon)

Wild: Let’s just get this out of the way real quick. Megalodon is big. Really, really big. This is one of the largest of all fish on the ARK, and dwarfs the creatures one would call large. Megalodon is one of the four apex predators of the deep ocean, and these four beasts constantly fight for dominance over the ocean. Megalodon is bigger but slower than its rivals, and as a result have adapted amazing senses to help ambush prey. They often eat slower fish like Dunkleosteus, crushing their armor with one of the strongest bites on the ARK. However, they often fall victim to the faster, more agile Mosasaurus.

Domesticated: It’s no surprise that Megalodon will be a challenge to domesticate, but when one accomplishes this task, Megalodon proves to be a powerhouse of a tame, terrorizing the oceans and crushing foes with just one bite. When enough blood fills the water in which Megalodon is swimming, the scent will cause Megalodon to go into a frenzy, using all of its energy to charge toward foes at alarming speeds. Survivors take advantage of this by bringing Megalodon into huge underwater wars and letting it wreak havoc throughout the whole battle.

Stamina: 200

Oxygen: Infinite

Weight: 1800

Melee: 250 (very slow attack speed)

Speed: 1700 (Old Megalodon has 2070)

Attacks:

- RT/LC: Bite

- LT/RC: Scent. Reveals the location of all creatures in the water that have over 1000 health. The radius for this ability equals the Megalodon’s melee percent in half-meters (1000% melee stat means the scent radius is 500 meters)

- RS/C: Surface Mode: Can only be used close to the surface. Megalodon sticks its fin out while the rest of its body stays submerged. Allows you to see above water with ease, and gives a greater FOV. Gives a 25% speed boost, only in this mode.

Abilities:

- Bypass armor

- 2X damage to Dunkleosteus

- Blood Frenzy: If Megalodon reduces ¼ of its health to other creatures, Megalodon will temporarily gain 2X speed and 1.5X attack speed (For example, let’s say your Megalodon has 50,000 health. You must lower other creature’s health with your attacks to activate this buff, so you must deal 12,500 health to other creatures for the buff to activate)

MEIOLANIA

Wild: Meiolania is among the largest terrestrial non-dinosaurian reptiles found on the ARK, reaching Triceratops sizes. Because of this, Meiolania has very few predators, and the predators Meiolania does have are often very unsuccessful in taking them down. Nothing can get past its shell, and no predator would dare to get close to Meiolania’s sharp beak. However, Meiolania is strictly herbivorous and will only attack if threatened.

Tamed: Meiolania is large, armored, and very slow, so it’d seem like Meiolania does nothing but soak damage, right? However, Meiolania have an ability normally not seen in the wild, and would normally seem impossible. Meiolania can tuck into their shell and begin spinning at rapid speeds, allowing Meiolania to move much faster while destroying everything in its path. To prevent a rider or other passengers from becoming nauseous, the Meiolania’s saddle uses a gyro to prevent riders from spinning around:

Oxygen: Infinite (walks on seafloor)

Weight: 950

Melee: 35 (bite) 75 (Shell Collision)

Speed: 650

Attacks:

RT/LC: Bite

LT/RC: Rapid Spin. Meiolania tucks into its shell and spins at rapid speeds, traveling at 3 times the speed and can move sideways and backwards. If Meiolania is underwater and uses this move while holding jump, Meiolania will rise to the surface and spin on the surface. Colliding into something does 75 base damage, and will knock back the foe. If the foe is large sized or bigger, Meiolania will also be knocked back, launching farther the bigger the foe is. The move uses quite a lot of stamina though.

- Deflects bullets when spinning

- 6 passenger seats
