A few weeks ago, we created a forum where you could submit your ideas for creatures that will be added to Lost Island. From there, we narrowed it down to the top 10 up-voted submissions. Over 15,000 votes were submitted for the next Lost Island creature and only 1% difference separating the Dinopithecus and the Carcharodontosaurus! Talk about a close finish 😅 With one unannounced creature coming to Lost Island, what do you think it could be? Download in full resolution Download in full resolution I believe Dinopithecus has been changed by ARK life. This species is definitely larger than any I remember from the fossil record. And these oversized baboons show a more pack-oriented behavior than I would've expected in their kind. Whole troops will organize around an alpha, and fall apart if that alpha is slain. Though they seem to prefer a diet of fruit supplemented with the occasional bit of meat, Dinopitheci are opportunistic and will eat just about anything. They’re also excellent climbers -- I’ve seen them scramble up sheer cliff faces and leap between trees to scavenge food for their troop. Dinopitheci will bare sharp teeth and toss well-aimed handfuls of their own excrement when provoked. Their feces is what really sets this species apart -- they’ve managed to weaponize a parasite in it that disables TEK! I feel like that parasite deserves its own dossier. If you can manage to tame enough Dinopitheci , you’ll soon find yourself with a small troop at your disposal. Your mini-troop will organize around the strongest of your tames, their new alpha that can then direct them at a target with a shrieked battle-cry. No need to saddle your tamed Dinopithecus to ride it -- it will make one for you using its own tail. Just hold on tight, and it will take you straight up walls and across ziplines. In battle, your Dinopithecus will fling fecal projectiles, grenades, or a combination that I like to call EBM, for Explosive Bowel Movement. I'm also curious about the pack bonus. Can any creature be the pack's Alpha? and if so, do they get a pack boost from the Monkeys? God, a Pack-boosted Gigantosaurus sounds terrifying. I thought it'd take weeks, particularly in the middle of the summer Just as impressive is how you're using the parasite in the pewp of the Dinopithecus to retcon how OP Gen2 has made Ark. We'll of course have to see the balance in action but on paper, smart. What I feel compelled to say is that this whole vote showed a few things : - People are willing to be involved with what is added to the game. We already knew that, in part, from the laundry list of QoL suggestions made last year (of which many didn't make the cut, never to be mentioned again...), but the passions, for better or for worse, around this vote, should be telling you that players want to be involved. Imho such a community vote on a custom creature could (should ?) have happened way earlier during Ark1's lifespan. I hope it's not the last time ! - If it isn't the last time, hopefully we have learned a few things from this process. For instance that it's hard for people to agree on a given species AND on a given ability... so maybe those two issues should probably become two different polls. I'm not saying it'd spare us all of the toxicity some of us have witnessed and/or been the target of, but I feel it'd bring a better consensus. - With the community being involved so much in the Summer Bash event, and now in the Lost Island Creature vote, I truly hope you don't let this enthusiasm die. Please involve us in how this creature is developed, by updating us on the evolution of the 3D model, or by organizing a short livestream built around the animation of one of its actions, or by recording a behind-the-scenes of the sound design, or all of the above... Lost Island's release is still a bit far away, don't let all that interest die down. A lot of us feel like it's "our" creature, keep us in the loop please Also : please consider adding bananas as a new crop ? XD As for the 3rd creature... well, if you like chaos, pick the Sinoma, that'll keep the conversation going for sure XD More seriously though, whatever you choose, I'd be interested in knowing how and why you pick it. Coulda had carcharo or livyatan, but we got a Thyla with extra abilities. Edit: My opinion on the creature has changed quite a bit since it was first announced. This is because of 2 reasons. One, I think this creature could be great if done right. Two, there is a near guaranteed chance carcharo will be added, whether it be in ARK 2, a future update, or even the 3rd lost island creature.
