Stryder Resource Collector + Mining Drill vs Anky and Argentavis

Recommended Posts

I've been using a 150% mining drill with a low level Stryder running resource collector for a few days and I "Feel" like its not very efficient. The patch I mine usually yields about 3k metal but when I ran it today with x2 I got about the same. I've run the same patch with medium level Anky and Argent and I get a better yield.

I haven't found any YT comparisons and wondered if anyone else had similar experiences?

I only play on unofficial. High bread anky gains more per note then Stryder I feel like but Stryder can harvest huge amounts of resources at the same time. Overall Stryder beats Anky if there is a lot to farm for me at least. Individual notes and small resource patches the anky wins for me

Well on Official I can confirm that your findings are the same as mine. An average Anky is better per node than mining laser and Stryder combo. Seems like you lose a significant amount in transfer between drill and Stryder. A little disappointing as the hassle it takes to tame one don't seem to justify the return. Item transfer to dedicated storage looks good on paper but its actually easier to park an Anky near the forge, spam "O", pick up all then offload to forge. Shame.

This has to be a joke right? In the time you get 1000 metal with your ank, I have 10k, what does per node efficiency matter at this point?

I think the main thing about the strider is the convenience of being able to link it to a dedicated storage and speed of gathering rather than having the best yield. It kind of feels like a hell of a lot of things have been implemented to reduce the time it takes to resource grind...

This is definitely the case with Excavation Rig. However, when I'm using a mining drill + Resource Attractor I seem to be yielding a heck of a lot less than with Anky. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but, if the feature is there, it aught to be viable.

Yes Stryder Excavation Rig beats everything in speed and efficiency.  Generally you keep it near it's assigned resource and fast travel to it to farm.

And then someone blows it up. I'm waiting for them to get cryopod capability. Until then they're just sitting ducks unless you have a serious base to keep them protected.

A tip, dont use the mining drill, dont use the ankylo, dont use the magmasaur. They are all trash compared to a Stryder with Excavation rig. 1 Million element shards in 1 ingame day in space on Gen 2 with summer event rates is definetly no problem. Link to dedicated.

It does seem to be disproportionately better than every other method. Add in the ability to squirt what you are harvesting to dedicated storage and its insane. I've noticed that when harvesting metal it will zap ALL targets that contain metal including plain rocks and Obsidian. One thing they seem to struggle with though is Carniflora.

I use the weight reduction of the mining laser for transfering metal from my Anky into the forge. Can transfer 4 rows at once with this. And I think Anky/Karkinos beats Anky/Argy with ease.

STRYDER happened dude, time to evolve. Use your mining lasers weight reduction to grab metal from dedicated storage instead.

Having tested this on official this week, I 100% agree. I've evolved from Anky to Magmasaur, using the mining drill to move things into an argie or high weight Quetz. I could definitely move some resources. But... the dedi link with the Exc rig is ... easily... 10x faster and more efficiently. It's not even close.

There does not seem to be a max range on it, either.

I have the stryder on Crystal Island and it beats the crap out of anything at getting resources.   We did the griffons cliff with a Giga escort and got 300k metal straight into tek storage at my base in about 15 minutes.  I also do stone runs, pearls runs, wood runs, thach runs, Crystal runs around the base.

Who cares about yield per node... its AoE harvesting link to a tek storage...   unbeatable period.

OK, now I have tamed a dozen stryders and tried them out, but:

Although it first sounded great (tek-transmitter, link to mining drill and dedi storage), but in practice everything is slow and I need way more time for the harvesting.

- The transmitter is useless for moving of large amounts because you have to drag every single stack in and out. Moving 10 or 20 rows of metal through the transmitter is a pain.

- The range of the drill link is so small that you have to permanently move the stryder. Moving my Karkinos instead is the same and faster.

- Farming with the extractor cannon is nice but the stryder is so slow, my jumping Karkinos is much faster

I really like the stryder but anky/karkinos is still far better than stryder/drill. Mantis/Karkinos is great too, more metal but Mantis has only directional attack and must more often positioned because of this.
