Big facepalm moment guys.  The main topic is a card game, something to do when your waiting for an imprint or something.  Yes I mentioned gambling, but in a between tribe mates kinda way.  I'm not talking risking your whole base or breeding line thing.   I'm talking kitchen table blackjack, not Multi million $$$ casino gambling.

im opposed to any kind of gambling system... gambling is bad period... and a game pg 12 should never educate gambling... not even for ingame stuff...

And tbh here... it wouldn't make anything harder... i can farm semi afk houndred of thousands of metal in an hour... but taming a 150+ Void Wyvern takes my full attention and there is no way an auctionhouse or casino or anything like that would make it harder...

And let me get this clear, the Problem is not about those Morons who sell Poop for real Money, the Problem is the People who enables them and buy their Poop...

Seems like you are opposed to a peer to peer gambling system. Did you even consider the possibility of player vs computer only? And also consider the saying "the house always wins" ... this could be a dino/ resources sink clearing out the bloated system, making the game harder.

Personally, I would not mind adding such a function, because I am a gambler and I do not see anything wrong with it, the main thing is to play wisely. In my understanding, playing wisely is making a deposit that you do not mind losing, since there is always such a chance. I was lucky to stumble upon a site where experts checked all online casinos with a minimum deposit of 1 euro in Portugal and told how to play correctly in order to win.

jeah nice idea and what about implementing an auctionhouse for real money on top of that... to support our hardworking Chinafarmers... oh i got a better idea... Wildcard could just sell high lvl Tames on their Page for real Money and make it even more awesome for extra Cash you can get extra lvl's. imprint, or even the option to lvl up the dino from lvl 1 and decide each stat point... wouldn't be that an amatzing feature?

/ironie off

Sorry to say, but no its not a good idea... the Player Culture is allready a mess... this would bring it down even more... jeah the Culture in the Asian Region is Pay to Win, its totaly normal for them... but for Real it destroys the Game... because when you don't have to do Poop ingame why you should play the Game? And buying stuff ingame instead of gathering / farming / building / taming it only decreases your own accomplishments, and makes it easy and boring... and when something gets boring the common reaction to this is... stop doing it...

Ark is not supposed to be an arcade Simulator like in Genesis 1 & 2 where you have to do random Arcade Missions, its a Survival Game, atleast it was when i bought it... i know times changed... sure you can setup a Shop somehow somewhere ingame with your Tribe and use social Interactions to trade Goods... but doing stuff, even by interacting with other Players is more as just farm 160k Metal burn it down to 80k Ingots and press a button to buy something...

And let me get this clear, the Problem is not about those Morons who sell Poop for real Money, the Problem is the People who enables them and buy their Poop...

How is it a "facepalm"? The limited info talks about wagering valuable resources in a mini game and never mentions being casual or between tribemates.

Yeah... it is unfortunate... the load and presentation of the game on official servers is dramatic because of the sellers.

Thinking it through just for the fun of pseudo-coding ... if an in-game auction market existed for trading anything, they would have to change both the drop and unclaim options.

Say:

  • Dropped items can only be picked up by the one who dropped it.
  • Unclaim can only be claimed by the owner.
  • No PIN public container access.
  • Auction house is cluster based. Items posted on one server are available on any other server(barring server tame restrictions)
  • Hexigons are the currency.
  • Market submissions need to be open and a bid system... i.e. no dedicated sale to a specific person. Perhaps make it wait before becoming available for a random number of time between 30 minutes to 20 hours.
  • Remove all item transfers. You want something on a new server, you buy it from the auction house with hexigons earned.
  • All forms of element can be posted for sale.

I think that is the most that can be done via code. It isn't iron clad. It is a huge meta change, but I'd enjoy that system as the current one is too limited to the server community and wither they are into trading at the same time I am.

The path of least resistance around it would be 'invite to tribe' arrangements made offline for cash. I'd think those would be easier to track in terms of an event logging(joining/leaving tribe events), plus they are more of a hassle than just using hexigons. I'd be interested in seeing how it plays out.

All that being said... I doubt Wildcard will pursue this for something that is being replaced by ARK 2. As a software designer... I know first hand that the more flexible a feature is, the more exploits will exist. Transferring ownership and map transfers

Yeah, just what Ark needs. There is already an issue with real money traders in game and you want to introduce another problematic element

Why not just go and do something else in game when you are waiting. Farm something, do a cave run, tame some dinos or kill a boss, re-organise your base there are loads of alternatives.

The devs time would be better spent on dealing with some of the game breaking bugs than creating a mini mission to encourage people to get into gambling
