The missions are cool and all but it seems they have a very heavy focus on having multiple people and for those who either play singleplayer or solo tribe this make the missions impossible. One example is the life support mission, even if you give yourself god you still can't beat it alone on easy difficulty.

I've played on a couple of servers, but most of my gameplay is in single player mode. Sadly, I see way too much in the game that's pretty much impossible for a single player, even with the "single player settings" enabled. I love that mods make a lot of things so much better, but I usually play with a lot of QOL stuff (like StackMeMore, TameGun, S+, and others).

I remember the final boss fight in Aberration was very difficult, because even with "god mode" enabled, you could still easily get killed. I think I did manage to complete it, though. I think I had at least one tame with me (a Giga, I think) and I think I also used an infinite ammo cheat so I could shoot all the purple things, before they could touch me and eventually kill me (and destroy my armor).

I think I only tried a few, at most, Gen1 missions and I haven't tried any Gen2 yet.

Like with Gen 1 missions, some are cool and some are corny.  Many are designed for multiple people, so single-player kind will be left out for some of them.  I find that omission perplexing - my intuitions tell me that it would not have been too difficult to scale the number of spawns and tweak the mechanics for missions on single player.

Tried some and they are ok, the buggy canoe ones were a pain.

But the one that I didn't was chose your adventure, I think it was called. The general idea is good but the mode where you have to pick keys or whatever while being attacked is r'tarded because the spawn is endless and they respawn like 2 seconds after you kill one enemy. So trying to climb a ladder with a tapejara attacking and knocking you down made the mission impossible. Endless spawning enemies is the worst game mechanic ever and shouldn't be used.

I think the missions are lit. My only issue with them is that (in Genesis Part 1 at least) there are only about 5 different mission types, with them all being used multiple times across the map. Like having multiple races, or multiple hunts, all of which are pretty similar. I don't really understand though how someone dislikes the missions, just because there are missions.

I for one cant stand the missions, I want to be able to disable them and play unencumberred in true ark style. I never liked them in Genesis 1 and I still dont. I just want to be able to switch them off and go about my life as normal (normally involves being eaten by a big dino). Thoughts?

aside from wanting to do the boss battles. the missions are optional. you can play the game without doing them. unless like i said, you wanna do the boss battles. if your doing something like single player or your on a private server with friends. you can skip this by using the admin command.

there are a few things that could be improved on. like the rewards system. the buffs are nice. great idea, love it. but the hexagon and item loot drops are utterly sh*t. just like on genesis 1 the item drops are completely messed up. i think a good way to fix this issue would be to have certain mission give certain types of loot. so one mission could give weapons as item rewards. another could give saddles. another could give consumables, and another for armor. this would in turn make the rewards somewhat more consistent with each mission.

the hexagon amount just doesn't make sense. saying hello to HLNA seems more efficient when compared to missions like the canoe. but that's just my personal opinion on the matter. i do agree that there are some mission which dont seem to work well, if not at all in single player. this could be fixed by changing the difficulty for them or how they operate when the option in the settings that a player can enable for single player is turned on. i cant exactly remember what its called. its like "enable single player settings" idk. but that'd certainly help with making it more single player.

over all you seemed to have complained about something yet haven't provided a valid solution to fixing or improving the issue you have a problem with. when you fail to provide a decent solution to an issue your complaining about it can end up sounding like your just ranting and complaining.

i kinda feels not ok that they went and nerved All gen 1 missions to the crap race alpha 123 hexagon and the gen 2 missions rewards are total garbage i men alpha missions give you mostly engram lvl poop (for the once that a solo dude can complet like the races) the parcer and mawing mission where you need to go around protect them from carnovores. you are given a net gun to net the attacking dinos fun fact though on the parcer one the dinos that spawn are Trex your netgun does nothing to them.

and then 20 min in of 60 min time limit the mission fails automaticly without you knowing why since not a single maweing died but it just failes leaving you head scratching what you messed up on.  also the misson desing is rather bad it says apply torpor on the parcers and the mawings so i was shoting them with the net gun cause what to i know it says apply torpor this toltip makes no sense watsoever how about protect ? or so that people know what to do.

yeah i can not say much the the ohter missions as they are simpely impossible to complet solo.

the moment when half of your game is a cheap 90s arcade game with horrible controls and collision detection. running through rings like sonic. imagine just for a second they would have used the time which they invested into missions into doing something which more resembles ark and dino taming. don´t get me wrong, gen2 feels ok, but for the end of ARK do you really want to have missions as the last taste?

i don´t understand why you don´t need your own dinos for missions. it would have at least made a bit more sense so you got taming goals and stuff to work towards to. now its just repeat until finished. already hated missions in genesis 1 .. extinction with the "tower defense" (orbital drops) was kind of interesting to a certain degree since you had to bring your tames and properly defend stuff.

oh .. at least we can farm element every X hours if we are online at that time

The 2 races I've played, hoversail and maewing, have been a lot more fun then the crap races on gen 1 where every little tree and rock gets in your way because someone thought it would be a great idea to poorly plot the course through the actual normal map itself.

I can already tell that having dedicated arenas, as it should have been in gen 1, is going to make these missions much better. You cant really pull off the maewing course on a normal map for instance.

I'll reserve my final judgement til I play more of them but the initial reaction is much more positive than gen 1.

I think the missions are pretty cool, but I'll admit, I also like your suggestion about finding a more Ark-like niche for missions. I'm not sure how that would work though. Imo, the gauntlet missions, even though maybe not super innovative, fit with Ark really well. I also enjoy the vanity Star Fox missions. I've played a lot of games that have missions/quests in my life, and it seems to me there are a finite ways of creating an objective-oriented style of gameplay for a computer game. It's either "kill something", "fetch something", "protect something", "escort something", etc. So I'm not sure exactly how a mission that fits more with the general Ark theme would look. But it sounds like a good idea on paper at least, lol.

It is telling you what to do. Fight off the predator and then add torpor (horse kicks, tranq, etc). Once torpor is applied it will prompt you to net the creature.

I feel that missions still aren't perfect, but I can tell they learned some from gen 1 missions. Like footprints are larger.

ah ok so then you need to bring more equipment to the mission as it gives you only the net gun.

and it was failing cause i reached the last waypoint where they spawn and did not catch any of them them

yeah but apply torpor is kinda a lackluster descritpion of what to do it would have not killed anyone the actually make the mission say oh track down x we will need to protect them and then tranq them for the net to work or something in that line.

but thanks for the help

Now that I have had more time with the missions and a few tries to figure better strategies for some, my opinion is a little more favorable:  I still think some are corny and some have wonky controls, but it seems like WC put some good thought into the gen 1 missions and made some clever tweaks and improvements.  Granted, it is still disappointing that there doesn't seem to be reasonable scaling for single player, but I will admit that some good creativity and thoughtfulness is found within.  My other big issue is the framerate on some: the maewing and bulbdog collection reduce my framerate to single digits at times, and I have never had a framerate issue with Ark before, even on Rag.
