Make land bases viable again

NathanBarrow

Suggestion

Caves has become the sad meta with land bases becoming so easily overrun. entire maps lay vacant with just the odd TP for the tribe who lays in the caves breeding and farming away in pure safety.

My suggestion is to increase the turret cap in non-cave areas to allow for better coverage of bases as well as a more general increase on structure cap (with recent changes to optimisation i believe the server impact would be minimal although i'm not in charge of the servers so...). The increase on structure cap is more to accomodate the increasing size of bases also, on land there are current raid metas that to defend against you must use of huge chunks of that structure cap boxing in towers and bases so platform dinos and titans can't rush your base.

ps. make basilisks breedable.

To be fair you aren't completely wrong but PvE makes up a minority of the actual players in the game. I underestimated the numbers, and ARK usually peaks at about 50k players daily. Even if there's only 10,000 daily players on the official PvP servers, that's still a 1/5 of the population; that's not a 'dead' game by any means. If you want games that are dead, take a look at games that have less than 1,000 daily players. 99 percent of the mega clans that control the servers do NOT use land bases. That's why this thread is relevant. Since the turret nerf, it's been more difficult than ever to properly defend a large land base, since the enemy can typically approach at any angle and you need to cover all those angles. They can soak one side of the turrets, break into your base, destroy your generator(s) and eliminate all of your base defenses. Viola! You've now read what all of official PvP is. So yes, they NEED to change something to make these land bases viable once more.

Honestly there's very little that additional turret coverage will do to make a land base out in the open more appealing than caves. The reason caves are as defensible as they are has more to do with limiting access than it does turrets. Titanosaurs, Extinction Titans, and many other larger tames can't do much other than sit at the entrance(s) to a cave. Gigas and Rexes can only be deployed with cryopods and even then only in certain areas. Caves usually restrict flyer access as well which limits what can be done with Tek Tapes and Pt rolling.

The limited space also reduces the advantage of numbers in many cases, which makes it much easier to defend since even a small number of defenders can often hold back a much larger attacking force. There's only so many tames that can get into a space and even fewer that can get into an effective range to actually deal damage. You also have terrain that can offer addition defensive advantages, crouch points that restrict access down to players on foot only, turns and corners that make for great rally points fall back to or  hold your ground at.

Building in the open is just entirely worse, everything has access, you can be attacked from all around and above all at the same time. You can't hide your layout or any defenses. any ground you want to claim will only make defending more difficult, requiring more resources to secure and protect. You also lose the ability to fall back and regroup since there's nowhere to fall back to. More turrets don't really matter when a few megachelon roll up with tek tape as air support
