I’ve been trying since last night with no luck. i’ve tried with and without taming pens, still won’t eat.
faehneus
i tamed a basilisk yesterday, but it seems like they dont like to get trapped in a pen. The first i found, i lured into a pen and it wouldnt eat a single egg, the second i just kited around ate the eggs without a problem.

Kwikwilyaqa
You are mounted? Don't crouch too, never. You need to keep the agro or they will not feed. And i always use a pen. I use the camouflage (rock drake) to get close to a burrowed Basilisk, build the pen around using Stone Dinosaur Gateway and left one without a gate. Then i quickly dismount and run inside, trow the eggs down inside the pen and place the last gate. Then i stay still behind the drake. Works 100% of the time for me. Smicknasty
I was successful without a trap though terrible efficiency, and it seems the ones one Genesis will not eat in traps. If anyone successfully trap tames one on genesis feel free to share.
Gelantious
I tamed two last night with a pen(dropped them inside with a skiff), dropped several eggs inside at once and got near for it to aggro on me and then back off a bit whenever it started attacking the pen itself instead of focusing on me.
