Interesting DLC - Impossible missions

As some of the posters/readers noticed, I do like Genesis a lot but after plenty of gameplay in it, I noticed a LOT of flaws with it, especially in regards to the missions system. My complains only apply to the PC version for now. Feel free to post if you notice the same issues on consoles as well.

Race missions :
All of them can be completed on gamma without much issues. Some beta races can be done with efforts and multiple attempts, but others like Wave Ray 64 are simply impossible to complete higher than gamma. Furthermore, it seems that console race missions do get a whole extra minute on top of their timer to complete said event.

Hunt missions :
Very fun to complete in gamma difficulty as your damage output is multiplied. Your opponents hardly deals ±100 per hit.

Now, let's talk about the beta ones... Your damage output in beta is not multiplied, but incoming damage from opponents is multiplied by 5. This means that each raptor attacking you during the "Cheaper by the pack" mission will deal ±500 dmg per hit and there are 5 of them in the final encounter. Another example is "We will rock you" in the volcanic biome. The golem hit you for 5-6k dmg with its boulder throw and around 600 dmg per direct hit.

With admin commands on my servers, I tried some of the alpha versions. Your damage output is divided by a factor of 7.5 and your opponents hits even harder. If we take the golem example again from "We will rock you", it does hit you for 5-6k damage per regular hit and upwards 10-15k per boulder throw.

Conclusion :
As far as I'm concerned the hunt missions are just outright impossible as of now in alpha. Even the beta ones are a nightmare with our tek giga. Unless wrong, there are about 10-12 hunt missions to be completed in all biomes, so easily 20-24 missions that can't be completed. This in return makes the final boss of Genesis impossible to even access in alpha mode as you need 168 of the 176 missions available and I'm not even counting the race missions there...

I haven't found the beta missions in bog and snow to be that bad, but alpha is another story. My partner and I took two x-paracers equipped with 8 tek turrets, 4 heavy auto turrets, and 4 regular turrets as well as 10 level ~280 bred and imprinted x-spinos to alpha Spy vs. Spino. Two spinos died the first round, another two died the second round, and we canceled the mission. Our spinos have >22k health. Based on how many left after that with less than 5k health, I don't think we could have done it with twice as many spinos without losing most if not all of them.

It confirms what I was thinking. You basicly need boss crews to take on alpha ones, which is a bit retarded considering some missions (volcanic especially) are often done in very small spaces...

The missions were not intended for you to breeze through them mate. They require finding good stat dinos (I'm using an allo line), breeding, mutating and imprinting kind of like mini bosses. Do that, go snatch you up a solid yuty breed imprint it . Maybe a tank dino or two and a daeodon. If you're using theriz be sure to pack them with veggie cakes. General rule of thumb is 30 points in a stat pretame and 40 post tame is ideal. As for the racing missions, above gamma agree totally busted. One last note I've yet to have a dino die in a mission but I've heard if they die during they just get cryopoded or left in a little baggie on the ground.

@WesmaneeHave you done alpha hunt missions with this setup? If so, which one/s? I'm reluctant to transfer in my therizino army or yuts/pigs. It seems like you should be able to get the mission done with biome creatures.

@Wesmanee I get that part mate, trust me as I have done bosses on official hardcore servers. I've also soloed on official settings every single boss this game has to offer, so yeah commitment ain't an issue on my side. However, there is a huge difference between challenging and poor design, which those missions are.

- Volcano hunting missions are usually done in smaller areas and pathways where using 50 rexes/zinos effectively is a nightmare. If you ever did the tek cave in alpha, you'll know what I mean.
- Golem mission (We will rock you) is flawed from the start as a bred/mutated rexes will hardly deal above 30 dmg per hit while receiving 500-600 dmg per hit consistently and 5-6k from boulders. No Ark bosses outside of titans deals that sort of dmg output.
- Breeding creatures and mutating them won't be enough for alpha missions. Saddles are needed and I've yet to see any saddle BP above 60 armor for any of the pre-genesis creatures. I've got dozens upon dozens of rex/zino saddles in the 35-45 range, but no BP in sight and certainly nothing useable for bossing.
- The kind of breeding required would take weeks if not months to accomplish, which is absurd for a single mission.
- I don't mind challenges and some requirements to accomplish certain things, but artificially gating content behind very specific requirements/creatures in order to progress in a sandbox game is just poor design in my opinion. I've seen those attempts in well-know MMOs such as Everquest/WoW and each time, it backfired on the dev team.

@N601J I'm most likely one of the very few players, if not the only one on Genesis who legit found and tamed a tek giga. Huge help for some beta missions, but useless on any of the alpha as it enrages the moment it takes dmg, despite having a somewhat decent saddle.

Not yet I'm still mutating for alpha missions. I'm clearing the bog before going to do other biome missions so I've never seen the golem mission if it's anything like tek cave I'd agree rexes are pretty unfeasible. And I havent run across any high level saddles for pre genesis creatures either, I'm hoping the alpha missions drop them. I'm gonna test tonight if you actually lose your tames during missions or if they are cryopoded when they die. If that's the case gives alot more room for experimentation. For spino hunt I'm gonna run 10 allos 20 mutations in health 20 in melee. A imprinted yuty on auto courage and I think I'm actually gonna ride a mutated health turtle with cakes and rare flowers to keep aggro. Are you guys playing on official?

Unofficial with official settings. As for dinos dying, I got a batch of rexes that I need to get rid of, so I'll test with "Cheaper by the pack" in alpha.

My goal is to do it with what Genesis has to offer, otherwise, I'd bring my titan hunting crew (mutated gigas).

Alpha : Throw away rexes (pack of 10) had 20k hp 600% dmg. 2 died on the first raptor, which hits for 2k dmg per hit. Rest died on the second raptor, cancelled the mission before the giga enraged.

Beta : Same pack did beta with 0 issues, each rex lost about 3-5k hp, considering they had prim saddles.

You get no crypods for dead dinos.

i was just about to come on here and confirm you do not get your dinos back lmao they are dead dead. u think u could do it with ascendant saddles on the rexes?

My 10 spinos wore really nice ascendant saddles for alpha Spy vs. Spino. We're on a private server and transferred in saddle blueprints we had for the creatures on genesis. They were taking 700 - 1400 from the brute spino.

We thought it might be a scaling bug from making a new x-spino into the level 1000 brute spino, so we tried alpha Swamp Placid. Same carnage.

One weird thing: both bosses as they were running away had a second where they took more damage. I saw a couple 700s popping up as they raced of.

I have a full boss army of therizino, rexes and tek rexes with 20 mutations in each melee and health, after seeing some of the videos and comments I'm deathly afraid of even attempting those even though betas were not an issue at all, especially I have to do it all solo. You guys tried underwater yet? The alpha ones are a sad joke, even tacking the damn thing makes you rage and when you get there you'll just die with all your tames. Nobody tested this before releasing, shame because I really enjoy the challenge, maps and this dlc in general.

@LeKaori Haven't personnaly tried any of the alpha aquatic missions but I was thinking about doing some tests in that regard.

I however did further testing with the rock golem one (We Will Rock You) and if you even touch sticky flames on the ground or are near a thrown rock when it explodes, a giga will instantly enrage, bred or not without regards for saddle quality.

My main test for aquatic missions is to check if a tuso can grab and hold a brute plesio/mosa. If you can, it's simply a matter of bringing tons of dps and burn it down, albeit at a much slower pace in alpha...

@Darkholis That's very good to know because I'm in the middle of breeding gigas for that mission and that would end poorly (Rock Golem mission), I didn't really mess around with volcano hunts yet because I can only imagine the narrow paths beeing a pain to deal with. Yeah you probably know by now, can't grab the brutes, also the stupid timer. You have around 15 mins for all that, it's hard to even follow the barely visible track. I'm gonna try and stack some mutations on melee and health for a tuso and I hope to at least be able to complete the alpha escorts or The Teeth Underneath, those are riddiculous as well.

On official there are no gigas. However, after 30 days half the server solos Beta Rock Golem on a magma. 10 Magmas should make short work of alpha. It's meant as group content.
