Worried about "Missions system"

Hi all ,

I am very worried about this new "missions system" that Genesis will have.
I read the description in the store page , and my worry is that certain items/resources will be locked away behind these missions. Meaning you HAVE to complete all of them to
be able to use all the content and complete the map's story. For me this will greatly take away the "sandbox play as you like" feel of Ark that I like so much. If I have to complete tasks and missions
to gain access to needed resources/items/gear and I can't get it any other way then this will be a fail for me and I won't buy this DLC. It will take Ark in the wrong direction.

What do you guys think ? Are these missions just gonna be optional to do , or are they gonna be HAVE to do to get certain resources/items/gear ?

Most likely, they'll be optional. You'll still be able to grind your way up to tek gear the normal way, and missions will just give you some ways around the grind.

It could work out great, I think. I'm sure that there are plenty of places that some people just do not like to be in. It could give people with claustrophobia a way to get cave resources without having a panic attack, for example, or it could give someone who just hates the way that snow looks a way to get resources from the snow area without looking at it.

That said, I assume that boss fights will be tied to missions in some way. Either by using Hexagons in addition to or in place of normal tribute items, or by making the boss fight actually part of a mission, or maybe both. And if boss fights are tied to missions, then boss rewards (whatever they may be) are, naturally, also tied to missions.

If all missions give Hexagons, then you should still have the choice of what missions you want to do to get them, so it's not like you're being forced to play lunar dodoball if you don't want to.

But of course, if they lock a bunch of resources and such behind missions, then it'll become bothersome.
We were talking about how you use Hexagons to traverse the environment and what exactly that means... If there's a toll booth between biomes and we have to pay Hexagons just to move around... That would not be fun to deal with at all. Especially not when you're trying to gather resources from across the whole map.

I understand your worry about this, but for now, let's just hope that they knew what they were doing when they added the mission system.

I'm honestly not sure but I think it seems like kind of a big feature so they are maybe going to be beneficial to your progress towards end game. Usually when you have mission or quest type progression it is leading you to an end goal. If that's the case I think there will still be the same game play as usual with building bases and taming/breeding. I don't think it would be a good idea to completely move away from that aspect of the game and push players into non optional content they are not use to up to this point of the game. I could be completely wrong and we will all find out soon. For me personally I am looking forward to more to do in the game and like the idea of this new content. I loved the orbital drops, titan taming and veins in Extinction and what that brought to the game beyond the usual stuff, but they weren't necessary and you could still play the same as always without them. I'm hoping the missions will be kind of along those lines.

Waiting for Daily/weekly missions to be added on top of what they have now, who knows maybe propper talent trees, professions as well.
Reduce retarted speeds on pvp players

Make it so that you dont entirely lose everything when you get raided by someone, you recieve a bag of items " example ".. this wiping system is retarded and unhealthy for ark itself
They lost thousands of players because of it " Literally hundreds of thousands "

Items and BPs have been locked behind boss fights for a long time, so I'm not sure why it  now enrages you all of a sudden . I still dont have any of the tek stuff.

I see missions being more like caves. A challenging way to get higher end BPs and items, but that doesnt mean you cant simply unlock the base primitive version in your engrams.

I mean.. I think Ark needs them. The game is in a healthy state still, nowhere near dying (just putting that out there, so no one thinks I'm saying the game is dying).
Why I think Ark needs them? It gives you some challenge in the game. Caves are okay, and bosses are okay, but if they can give us engaging activities, like the OSDs in extinction, I think it will only benefit the game. Engaging and difficult content keeps players playing. It also gives variety! I imagine they will be optional, though. So long as everything is implemented at least DECENTLY WELL, I am excited. The thought of Dino Races, escort missions, etc excited me. Now, if they do daily/weekly missions, like WoW, that makes it mandatory for you to do them to progress, I will have a problem with most likely. We will see, though. It could be really great or really bad. I am sure we will see in a sneak peek in the trailer, and of course, it releases tomorrow. With Atlas' release, I think they are trying to KIND OF take Ark in that direction, I think they should, because you have this great foundation with which you can build upon. I've always said "events that bring a server together, or make a server go bloodthirsty" are great. I am excited, will see how it goes.

Dose this mean that we will not be able to have true servers that everyone will have fun on. If this is the case it would mean that not very many people are going to play the DLC and are just going to transfer the new creatures over or just mob them to spawn on other maps. I hope that this is just one huge map that has missions on the side if you want to do them but still feel like you are playing are. I would hate to see Ark as the new Destiny.
