Ever get pinned off a mount by something, or doing some pvp and you die, then while going back to body your game dies? Depending on the terrain and where it was killed it can be near impossible to find the bag. Guess you aren't getting that saddle back or anything it was carrying. I've spent a lot of time gathering bushes thinking it got killed in a bush, and have found a bag before a decent distance away from where I died.
I suggest Dino tame death beacons like survivors get, just maybe a different color, this way we can find the cargo our tames had.
