Avalon RP - Season 6 Fantasy

“Legends speak of a man who is not a man, clad in black and white that appears and disappears through our history. Coming and going as the seasons, yet more unpredictable. His origins unknown, no one knows what he wants. No one knows what he is. Most are too afraid to ask, but those who gather the courage, find that he is gone by the next day vanishing without a trace. Stories passed down from the elders of the villages claim that he is a being born from the seething hatred of a dying god, and the compassion of a broken Inquisitor, both whose names are lost to time.” Creatures such as this, and many more inhabit the lands of Valguero, born of the remnants of an ancient Kingdom, creatures large and small have laid claim to the continent.

To the south, in the ruins of the Old Kingdom, lies the chalk plains, a land inhabited by many of the more “Humane” races, your common man, the acclimated Elf, the estranged dwarf or Goblin, along with many other races. They had built themselves a small city off of the remnants of a long forgotten kingdom, remnants of a treasury found deep in the ruins of an old castle with a note “Pay Father Black please Brios. ~Alyx” The people found more than enough gold to outsource their work and begin their new lives, surrounded by the beauty of the plains. Yet with great beauty comes great dangers, large and ferocious creatures roam the plains. Some nights, when the moon is new, rumors spread of a creature clad in white clothing, slaying the beasts that roam and protecting the city. Though these are just rumors nothing has been proven in many years of New Nystoria’s existence.

To the west of New Nystoria lies the great Redwoods, the fabled home of the Elves. Spiraling canopies and ancient trees dot this region, said to be watched over by the elven gods themselves, they have been gifted with a peaceful life, watching the world go by them in the trees for almost as long as the land itself has been (At least that’s what they would have you believe) Other, lesser known races inhabit this place, as the Elves are generous to those who would share the earth of their benevolent goddess, it is rare to see many people inside this sprawling forest, as it tends to swallow those whole inside of it. Rumors speak of an ancient being that resides inside, and a cave that oozes with unearthly fumes to repel out all but the strongest of warriors.

To the Northeast of the Redwoods lies a long winding river, said to pull those unfortunate enough to be swept beneath its waves straight to the underworld. It’s the source of much agriculture around the continent, and rumors circulate of it leading to a much deeper pool of water in the underdark, a source of life in even some of the darkest reaches of Valguero.

From that river lies the Underdark, a land of creatures that have a distaste for the light of day. They dwell in a world of mushroom trees and glowing crystals, the creatures that live amongst them having as much of a distaste for those around them as they do for the “Surface Dwellers.” Rumors speak of an unfathomable evil, born from the seething hatred of a dying god and the compassion of a dying Inquisitor, that will occasionally delve into his birthplace. His path is often met with silent caves, as the creatures meet untimely and violent ends from the beast as it wanders into the depth of the underdark.

If one were to attempt to walk OUT of the Underdark, they would find themselves at the base of a ruined fortress, once used to keep the evil of the cave inside, and the foolhardy adventurer out. Legends speak of ancient warriors of light that used to congregate within these halls and fight for justice, now it lies in disrepair, though occasionally the scampering of small feet can be heard, and the hissing of a snake betrays the presence of someone, or many small someones, hoping to make their mark on the world, for better or for worse, only they will tell the tale.

From the north of these ruins, past the mountains lies a frigid landscape, said to harbor dragons and golems. It is a cold and harsh land, leaving nothing for any who would dare trial its icy lands. The creatures from this land are rich in wool and exquisite meats, being used in the best cuts of meat and finest feasts. Rumors circulate of a warrior in black that wanders the icy lands, slaying the fiercest beasts and presenting their heads as trophies in the middle of town squares, or occasionally the stories speak of the warrior locked in pitched combat with dragons, his armor gleaming with their scales. Whether the rumors are true or not leaves an adventurous spirit for those who desire to test their might.

The Land of Valguero is vast and full for all those who seek to find themselves an opportunity at furthering their lives, be it as labor for those above them, or an opportunity to prove their might as hunters and warriors, from Scholars and Historians to arms dealers and blacksmiths, the opportunities are endless and only the passage of time will show what will be made!

While the geography of the land is beautiful, and the many cultures and races that inhabit it adds to its complexity, one cannot forget about the rich and powerful history of the kingdom. The easiest place for one to begin would be shortly after the death of Inquisitor Bloodthorn, around the year 787. Shortly after this incident, and the great war against the Mad God, magic took on a new life in Valguero. Those who possessed magical power were no longer called “Witches” but instead “Mages” And they were taught from a young age to use their gift carefully and respectfully. Though not all would follow this path, it was generally accepted. Other continents, hearing of the magical nature of the land, rallied together and lead an assault in the year 793, which would begin what is now known as the “Great Mages War” Where remnants of the Divine Order formed a frontline on the eastern edge of the continent. The enemy force, banded together under the Aurelian flag, pushed into the continent, laying waste to all those they came across. Rumors spread of an unknown force that would sweep through the battlefields, occasionally slaying large divisions of enemy forces, or rescuing the wounded and returning them to safety. Much was still unknown about the magic of the land, and for the time it was left uninvestigated. The battle would wage on for years, ending only in a decisive battle led by former enemies Paladin Pyr,(A by this point well known Mage) of the Divine Order, and Father Garrus Black who would lead beasts that seemed to emerge from hell themselves into the bulk of the enemy forces. The battle was intense, as Flame and Sword came to bear, the sound of what seemed to be almost a thousand grunts came over the hill. The Hills behind the Aurelian army was armed with a hoard of Boars, armed and ready for war, atop it sat a man and a woman clad in black and blue armors. They charged into battle, striking at the rear of the Aurelian forces. The Aurelian’s put up a fearsome battle, and soon many would lie dead, only a few remaining. The bodies of Paladin Pyr, and the woman in blue were never recovered, though she would eventually be identified as the former Empress of the land, Brios Waterborn. Later, as the survivors would pick through the land, the bodies of soldiers, pigs and wolves would begin to form in such a thick fashion that it became impossible to tell what belonged to what. Eventually the bodies would lead to an eerily peaceful tree, two men sat back to back, one clad in armor that seemed to glow with radiant energy, two large wolves laying at his side. They were protective of their master, until eventually they would be subdued, allowing the body of one Garrus Black to be recovered. He seemed almost peaceful, a soft smile splayed across his lips. In his hands was a small note, the note itself would read as an apology to Garrus, for a multitude of things, though it seemed to emphasize the stress of leading a land, and how its writer came back as soon as they had heard of the danger headed to the kingdom.

On the other side of the tree, clad in black and blue armor that seemed almost unharmed save for three small holes that had appeared in the chestplate, laid a man that many did not recognize, a grizzled beard overtaking his appearance, large green tribal tattoos adorned his arms. His gaze was far off, though at peace. A shattered sword and shield lay at his side, along with several pouches of medical tonic that appeared to have been tossed to Garrus at some time. The former Emperor of the land, Alyxandyr Waterborn, had returned to his people once more, along with his beloved and his creatures in one last effort to set right the kingdom he had for so long felt he’d ruined in his care. As the body was set to be retrieved, a clap of lightning would reign over the land, thunder rolling in. A large wyvern, blue and orange would descend from the thunder clouds, ridden by a man in pitch black armor, no words were spoken as the man dismounted, the Wyvern releasing a large gout of lightning from its maw. His body was taken by the man and set upon the back of the Wyvern, he spoke not a word, though many would swear that it was the former Paladin Pyr, set to retrieve the man who had spared his life so many years ago. Garrus would be lain to rest with his family, and was buried with the highest honors that could be afforded at the time.

Shortly after this battle, the Mages War would end, with the head of the Aurelian King taken and thrown into the jungle after a night raid, peace would eventually settle onto the land, and many magical races, feeling that safety for them would be held in these lands, pushed into existence. Though the Mage Wars were only a mere 230 Years ago, for many magical races, the conflict is still fresh in their mind and worries of a new assault are always present.

The year is now 1007, Magical races flourish across the kingdom and in every corner of the land. What story will unfold for you and those around you, will you live to see another momentous event that shapes the history of the land itself? Or perhaps you yourself will be an instrument in shaping the world around you. Regardless, the land of Valguero awaits, and with it another adventure for all!
